Explosive

Dr. Sophie Gable wasn’t expecting her peaceful getaway to be shattered by the arrival of a half-dazed, dead-sexy guest. Thomas Nicasio has obviously been traumatized, and Sophie thinks she knows why. There’s something about his past that he can’t—or won’t—remember. Something that could get them killed. Most women would run from a man like Thomas. Not Sophie—even when she knows she’s playing with dynamite.

She can’t resist his electrifying seduction. She doesn’t want to control her willing submission to him. And she knows she never should have taken it this far. Because now it’s too late. Thomas’s past is closing in on them. And as danger and desire collide, Sophie knows that his next touch could consume her—if it doesn’t kill her first.

Pretty hot book and a decent story to boot. Beth Kery has written some of my favorite books in the past few years (Wicked Burn, Daring Time, Release), and while Explosive doesn't quite reach the caliber of my favorite, "Daring Time", it's still a very entertaining read.

To summarize: The heroine, brown-eyed blonde, classy, conservatively dressed thirty-something Dr. Sophie Gable practices internal medicine in Chicago. She knows the hero, 6'4" dark haired, green-eyed, thirty-something hunk, investment advisor (and ex-Navy demolitions expert) Thomas Nicasio, only in passing since he has offices in the same high rise as Sophie. Sophie's seen Thomas in the lobby of her medical practice, waiting for his brother Rick, who's a well known investigative reporter. Rick has been seeing a psychologist collegue of Sophie's since he's uncovered some disturbing information about his father (and Thomas's adoptive father). When the story opens, Rick and his 10 year-old son have just died a week before in a suspicious boating accident. Thomas's adoptive father, the man who took him in as a child when his own parents were brutally murdered, is being investigated by the FBI for federal crimes and there's rumors that he's the head of a Chicago crime syndicate known as the "Outfit". Thomas is devastated, and shows up at Sophie's vacation lakeside cottage, clearly traumatized and on edge. How did he get there? How did he know where Sophie was? And why go to Sophie, a woman who he was attracted to, but hardly knew except to say hello?

Thomas…
Photobucket

Sophie is shocked to see Thomas on her doorstep, looking very stressed and in shock and with a sexual intensity she's never witnessed before. She knows he's not himself, and wonders if he's been injured or if it's just the result of him being in shock over his brother's death. She wants to help any way she can--clearly Thomas needs her for something.

Ah yes, Sophie. Thomas needs you for something alright. And it starts with "s", and ends in "x". If you want to help him, you'd better be ready, because Thomas is going to need you (and your body)--a lot. And in a lot of different ways. Yes, he's very troubled, and he's suffering from some kind of traumatic amnesia--there's something his mind just refuses to accept--does it have something to do with his father? It's going to take all your doctoring skills and all you sexual skills to get to the bottom of this and to help ticking-time-bomb Thomas before he explodes. And you'd better guard your heart--once Thomas works this out, and is done using you for his comfort--will he still need you anymore? And, will being with Thomas when he's in this state of mind put your own life in jeopardy? Is danger just around the corner?

Perfect title for this book. Lots of events link back to the title. There's an explosion in the book, where the H/h almost lose their lives; the hero was in the Navy for years where he worked as an explosives specialist defusing bombs; the H/h have an "explosive" sexual relationship; and for me "explosive" is the best word to describe the hero's temperment--I felt like any minute the memories that he supressed would come rushing back and he would explode.

The story's suspense element wasn't that hard to figure out. I guessed what was upsetting Thomas and what he was supressing fairly quickly and wasn't surprised to find out that I was right. It did take a rather long time for this part of the story to unfold, though. That's because the majority of the book was about Thomas and Sophie's growing relationship. It stared out as sort of an extremely urgent sexual relationship on Thomas's part--there was just something about Sophie that called to him--he had to have her to calm himself down. If you're familiar with Beth Kery's writing, you know what you're in for when it comes to her sex scenes: very steamy, very lusty, very intense, very erotic. This one had a couple of memorable set-the-sheets-on-fire passages--one involving a hammock (still don't know how they didn't flip out of that thing), the other one an outdoor scene in the rain where Thomas urges Sophie to "Run" since he doesn't know if he can control himself...yowza! And oh yes, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the anal scene...

Thomas and Sophie…
Photobucket

So to sum up, a well-written book that's loaded with some intensely steamy passages, as well as an element of suspense. Not too many surprises in this one, but still an entertaining read. If you like a tortured, sexy hero, you'll love Thomas. Thomas and Sophie, two people who both felt like they never really belonged in their families, are a good match, and you'll be rooting for them. Not quite as inventive as Daring Time, but one of Beth Kery's better efforts. 4 stars

Warning: This book contains explicit sex (including oral and anal) in some unusual locales, light bondage (some restraint), mild spanking, and the use of some sex toys. Not for the faint of heart.

Rating: 2.5 / 5

Looks like I'm in the minority of not liking this book. There are a lot of 4-5 star reviews/ratings, but I feel like I'm being generous if I give this 2.5 stars. I just got very bored reading this book and couldn't get into the story at all.

Summary:
Sophie Gable is a doctor who has developed a crush on the brother of one of her associates patients. The two have been dancing around each other for a while, but Thomas Nicasio is going through a tough time with the recent deaths of his brother and nephew. Then, Thomas shows up at her vacation cabin one night, acting very strange. They share a passionate night but the next morning, Thomas is gone and later remembers nothing of their encounter.

Sophie knows something is very wrong with Thomas. He's showing all the signs of PTSD and head trauma. But she's wary of how to handle the situation, given the danger that is arising because of an FBI investigation into his adopted father. Plus, every time the two are around each other, passion ignites. But Thomas and Sophie find their lives in danger and she must figure out what memories Thomas is blocking before it's too late.

Review:
I had moderately high hopes for this book. I enjoy erotic romance and I love romantic suspense, so when I book looks to be both, I'm a happy camper. But this book fell way short of my expectations.

The beginning of the book is a bit confusing. It seemed like the author was trying to be a bit nebulous and mysterious in the way she wrote it - with the timing, the events - but I ended up kinda confused over what really happened and when. Thankfully, that issue smooths out not too far into the book.

But then the biggest problem of the book arises: way too much sex! And yeah, I know, this is an erotic romance. Still, I prefer decent story and character development with my hot sex, thank you very much. And I didn't get that at all with this story. There are times when it seems like you're just reading wall to wall sex. It got very boring. Every time you think the plot of the book is about to pick up, get dug deeper into, you instead get more sex. And then some more sex on top of that. I think about halfway through I started to skim somewhat, and then by the end, I was practically skipping scenes.

I wanted more character development, more of the plot. Not wall to wall sex. Maybe I'm the only one who thought that way since this book has so many good ratings, but that's the way I felt about it. There was a lot of potential for this story, but it doesn't deliver. At least for me. Other authors handle erotic romantic suspense much better - Jaci Burton comes to mind. I'm not sure Beth Kery is an author I'll read again.

WARNING, this book contains: explicit sex and language, oral sex, anal sex, light dominance and bondage, light spanking, some sex toys...and just lots and lots of sex in general.

I have yet to read a Beth Kery book that I didn't really enjoy and this one is no different! In typical BK fashion this book has incredibly hot sex and sexual tension but also and an excellently suspenseful plot!! This book really keeps you turning pages to see what happens next, the character development was really excellent and for me at least it took me a little while to decide what to make of Thomas - In the end I loved both the H/h! To sum up, another hit for Beth Kery, fans jump on this one and for those of you who have never read her, what are you waiting for??

There’s nothing better then having an erotic-romantic suspense jump right in and immediately hook you. Literally, first sentence, Thomas Nicasio has interrupted Dr. Sophie Gable’s annual summer getaway by appearing on her lake house dock. This is the sexy, ex-Navy explosives specialist who has been been giving her heated glances and, not always discreetly, checking out her body. Though they’ve only had a few flirty conversations in the lobby of her medical practice, it’s Thomas’ face Sophie sees whenever she’s self-pleasuring. And here is he on her dock, the normally GQ’d dresser....uninvited, injured, disheveled, on edge, he doesn’t even know HOW he got to Sophie’s place so he’s suffering from short-term memory loss...and thankfully *grin* Thomas is masking absolutely none of the desire he’s been trying to temper for months. They have an amazing first night together...one he promptly forgets!

Sophia knows his brother and nephew both just died in a tragic accident, but considering the extremely tense nature of Thomas’ former position with the Navy, she finds it highly doubtful that their deaths were the trigger for Thomas’ current emotional and physical state. Something else even more colossal must have just happened to Thomas, and boy is she ever right!

With building’s exploding, FBI agents trailing Thomas, and accusations of family mob ties, Sophie feels he’s in danger and does her best to keep him stationary at her lake house, the setting for the majority of this book. Well, excluding that ridiculously hot scene in the office building, most of the sex in Explosive takes place in and around the lake house property. Beth Kery is a master of sensual, erotic romance, and this story did NOT disappoint. There’s always BDSM, at least for every full-length contemporary I’ve read of hers in recent years, but each story kind of has its own flavor. With Explosive, I’d say this one has the kind of BDSM to satisfy the fans of this particular genre, PLUS the folks that don’t want it too extreme or too hard. Only 1 small quibble - Thomas improvising with use of a kitchen spatula very briefly killed the sexy for me...I couldn’t look at my KitchenAid tools the same for a little while! *g* That aside, the sex is varied, detailed, and hot with even some minor exhibition play thrown in. There’s a reason why I drop everything for Beth Kery’s books - I hope the next release is coming up soon! The wait and anticipation for Explosive, considering my preference for tortured or damaged heros, was KILLER! Happy reading :D

Since reading and loving Wicked Burn a few years ago, I've become a big fan of Beth Kery and eagerly read everything Kery has published, and her newest book, Explosive, is right up there with Wicked Burn and Daring Time as one of her best.

Sophie is a psychologist with a secret crush on the brother of one of her partner's clients. Thomas Nicasio is sexy and charismatic, but lately his family has been in trouble. Adopted into the powerful and wealthy Carlisle family at a young age after being left an orphan, Thomas used to be an explosives expert in the Navy. His adoptive brother, Rick, is a journalist investigating the Chicago mafia - his investigations turned up the name of the mob boss, who also happens to be his father: Joseph Carlisle. Not long after that, Rick and his son are killed in a boat explosion.

On vacation at her lakeside cottage, Sophie is taken by surprise when Thomas, a man she barely knows except through his brother Rick, turns up on her dock. Clearly in a state of shock, she lets him stay with her. The chemistry between them is electrifying, and after a passionate night Sophie wakes up the next morning to find Thomas gone. When she encounters him in her office building later, she discovers he has no recollection of the time at the cottage. But he's clearly in trouble, and after they escape an explosion and the FBI, the cottage is the only safe place left - a place where Thomas can heal, and they can explore their explosive chemistry.

Nothing sizzles hotter than Beth Kery sex; it's intense and hot and wild and naughty and passionate. Thomas was instantly likeable, especially as his vulnerable side is what we first see - after that, we like Sophie know him better than he realises. The plot is simple enough but with an edge that adds tension and suspense; still, the truth about Thomas's adoptive father and the death of his brother, while interesting, is not the point of the story. I like it when plot doesn't get in the way of character development and growing chemistry - these two explode off the page right from the beginning, but their emotional chemistry builds slower and is more satisfying for it.

Very good for steamy, lusty, intense, erotic sex. Pretty good suspense with amnesia, organized crime, and murder.

STORY BRIEF:
Sophie is a doctor (internal medicine). Tom is an investment advisor who has an office in the same building as Sophie. Tom previously was an explosives expert for the NAVY. Sophie and Tom have seen each other frequently, being in the same building. They have been attracted to each other but never acted on it.

Sophie takes a few weeks off to spend time at her parents’ lake cottage in central Illinois. To her surprise Tom shows up at her door. He has a bruise on his head. He desperately needs to have sex with her – she is willing. He leaves the next morning. She follows him back to Chicago to try to figure out what is going on. She realizes he has amnesia and doesn’t remember going to her lake cottage. An FBI agent sees Sophie with Tom and tells her that Tom is in danger. Sophie asks Tom to come to her lake cottage for a few days. She wants to help him with his amnesia, plus she is falling for him.

There have been some murders of people close to Tom, and he may be next. His amnesia isn’t helping. But during this time, he has an insatiable need for sex with Sophie. And there is lots of it. It’s explicit and includes rear door activity, sex toys, light bondage, and mild spanking.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
Tom desperately hungers for Sophie in all ways, and she’s happy to comply. The sex scenes were hot. I actually found myself with goose bumps a couple of times which surprised me. I wasn’t sure whether it was the book or the room temperature (probably the book). Don’t expect any relationship development which would have been nice.

An undercurrent is Tom’s amnesia, causing him to be distant. Tom hears Sophie talking on the phone about him. She’s getting advice from her psychologist friend. She doesn’t tell this to Tom and she doesn’t tell him about his amnesia because it may hurt rather than help his coming out of it. Therefore Tom is suspicious which creates some conflict/tension between the couple, which was ok.

The suspense part of the story relates to murder and Tom’s adopted father being investigated for organized crime activities. This is a minor part of the story and happens mostly at the end of the book. It was not typical romantic suspense which has bad guys interacting with good guys throughout the book. But the suspense part was good. The ending was very nice. My favorite Beth Kery books are Daring Time and Release, but this is worthwhile if you like her style.

The title of the book touches several things including Tom’s past work in the NAVY and a warehouse explosion. But I see it mostly relating to explosive sex, explosive relationships in Tom’s past, and Tom’s current temperament.

DATA:
Story length: 326 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 14. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 104. Setting: current day Chicago area and central Illinois. Copyright: 2010. Genre: erotic romantic suspense.

Beth Kery not only brings suspense to Explosive, but she brings some serious heat!

Sophie Gable is a doctor of internal medicine and Tom Nicasio is an investment advisor who just so happens to have an office in the same building as Sophie. Tom used to be an explosives expert for the NAVY. Sophie and Tom have seen each other frequently, being in the same building. It just so happens they have been attracted to each other but have never acted on it.

Taking some time off Sophie heads out to her cabin, and to her surprise Tom shows up and tell her he has to be inside her. Trying to the bottom of what is going on with Tom, Sophie wants to help him. There have been some murders of people close to Tom, and he may be next. His amnesia isn’t helping. But during this time, he has an insatiable need for sex with Sophie. And lots of it, she is the key to getting to the bottom of what really has happened with Tom.

Tom desperately wants Sophie in so many different ways and lucky for him Sophie is more than happy to comply. The sex scenes were so hot I was wondering if I was panting and drooling. I actually could not put this little hot read down. I loved how Tom and Sophie got together, after the weeks of being attracted together and they just didn't jump into bed together. The suspense part of the story relates to murder and Tom’s adopted father being investigated for organized crime activities. I was dying to know who the murderer was and if his father was in fact involved in these activities.

I loved Tom!! I felt for him loosing some important people in his life and loved the way Sophie was trying to help him move past it. Tom was a pure Alpha male and loved every minute of it. I was relieved when Sophie took a liking to it as well. I mean who doesn't like a take charge kinda man?

Explosive was the perfect title for this fantastic read. Not only did it have some explosions but had tons of explosive sex. This is a well-written book that's loaded with some intensely steamy pages, as well as an element of suspense. An entertaining read. If you like a sexy as hell hero who will save the day, you'll love Tom as much as I did. *swoons* Thomas and Sophie, two people who both felt like they never really belonged in their families found everything they needed in each others arms.

I can't wait to read more from Beth Kery, she always knows how to get you interested and you keep you on the edge of your seat.

2 1/2 stars at best. When the story started I thought it was very interesting and intense. The hero Thomas is going through a PTSD attack and is found at an acquaintance, Sophie- the heroine's, vacation home dazed and confused. Since she is a doctor and aware of the horrible drama going on in Thomas's life she feels for him. They had met before and have been attracted to each other from afar, but have never had a real conversation, but she is who he searches out in his current mental state. It is weird for Sophie to find Thomas at her quiet lakehouse. Well the doctor in Sophie kicks in and she recognizes Thomas distress, takes him in, and tries to stabilize him. At first it works, but then the rutting beast comes out it him and she likes it. The next day he doesn't remember a thing and he is gone.

This is where the story disintegrated and became just a sexfest and not a pretty sexfest, nothing romantic or loving...not once. I was bored and then the last 50 pages went back to the story and it finished well. I would not have been happy if I paid $15 for this book and I am glad I waited and received it through Paperbackswap.com.

Explosive by Beth Kery took me into the lives of two extraordinary individuals. Dr. Sophie Gable and Thomas Nicasio possessed a volatile physical chemistry that leapt of the pages. But it was Sophie’s nature as a doctor that gave additional insight to her caring nature. She wasn’t prepared for Thomas to show up on her doorstep and immediately found something was off. As a friend she helped him in the best way she knew how, by keeping him ignorant of the knowledge she possessed. As a friend that had to be one of the toughest decisions in her life.

Thomas, strong and sure was dealt a damaging blow, not just in his amnesia but, with how it came about. In his confusion and anger he reached out to Sophie for help. In her arms a raging passion ignited, giving him solace from his troubles. His struggles to remember tugged at my heart because I wanted him to remember, and at the same time wished he never would. Between the FBI, his father and Sophie, I shuddered at the prospect of him finding the truth. Through it all Sophie remained a trooper, even though she wanted a deeper relationship, she put her personal safety and emotional needs on the shelf to help a friend.

The setting of the lake house was the perfect respite for this well written story. Explosive will be on my keepers shelf.

Dr, Sophie Gable always noticed when Thomas Nicasio was around. Whether in the elevator going to his office or whether he was in her office waiting for his brother, he was just the type of man to catch and hold a woman's attention. Other than some brief casual flirting Thomas had never given Sophie any indication the attraction was mutual. Until Thomas shows up at her vacation house dazed and obviously injured. After a night of explosive passion, Thomas is gone the next morning, only to reappear in Sophie's office having no memory of the previous night.
At first this book confused me, I was like "OK, what normal woman wouldn't call his ass out for acting like nothing happened?". Sophie also irritated me a bit, She was taking a LOT of crap from Thomas, that frankly, suspected head trauma or not, we would have had a prayer meeting about. I was just about ready to write this one off as just a really long erotica novel, when Beth Kery got brilliant on my head. She just blew me out of the water with the plot twists and surprises. She was like a crocodile laying in wait for the unwary zebra. It's a log, dum de dum, it's a log, then.....BAM!!
Up jumps the plot twist and drags the reader under. I was shocked and thrilled, and also slightly embarrassed at my rush to judgement. Way to put me in my place Ms. Kery, well done.

This was an interesting book. On the one hand, holy crap there was a lot of sex. But on the other hand, there was this sort of mystery that was woven well. Would he ever remember their first night? Why was he blocking it out? My goodness, they have such a strong, almost animalistic, attraction to each other. They couldn't get enough of each other, which was good for someone who likes to read about people having sex, lol. But wow, there was a LOT of that. And the climax of the mystery was pretty darned good, too. I didn't see that coming; it wasn't obvious to me. I really enjoyed this book. The sex sort of became monotonous, but at the same time, it wasn't boring (and it was hot). And I really liked the ultimate resolution of the story.

The mystery, suspense, and SMOKIN-HOT sex made this book a very delicious read.

Thomas was a dominant, sexy, possessive amnesiac looking for answers and safe harbor at Sophie’s door. Already being acquainted with and attracted to Thomas, the compassionate Sophie takes him in and tries to help him put together the pieces of his broken memory. The intensity of his need for Sophie was so powerful it was almost overwhelming. I absolutely loved the two of them together.

Once again Beth Kery does not disappoint. Even though the books starts out a little slow, the pace picks up after about page 80 or so and it is well worth the wait.

If you love a stong alpha male then Thomas is your man. At times I wanted to brush the hair out of his eyes and tell him that everything would be okay, he just needed to trust Sophie...

Sure wish I’d taken the time to check out the cover of this book before I started reading my e-ARC. It’s perfect for the story. Thomas has suffered a family tragedy and turns to Sophie for comfort as he tries to break through an amnesiac haze to get on with his life. The man can’t keep his hands and mouth off of her. This is one hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot — throw in about another 50 or so hots — read. If you’re looking for a sexy, sensual, and downright sinful erotic romance, this book is what you need. Take my word for it. I still have plenty of residual physical effects after reading the plentiful sex scenes through these pages.

What I like first about this story is the mystery of it all. The mystery of why Thomas shows up on Sophie’s dock one night, disheveled and out of sorts. They don’t know each other well, having glimpses of each other when Thomas and his brother are in Sophie’s office the times Rick sees a therapist. They’re attracted to one another but have never acted on that attraction. So finding him at her lakeside vacation home is something of a shock for Sophie. The sexual tension is fierce and blasts off the page. Sophie offers him sanctuary for the night, stepping back from what could be between them. But when Thomas seeks her out later, they combust. A huge conflagration. Explosive.

Sophie is aware of the FBI investigation of the claims that Thomas’ adoptive father is the head of an organized crime unit in Chicago. Thomas’ brother and nephew have just died in a freak boating accident. And when the FBI shows up the next day to question Thomas, more stress is heaped on the man and his family. But when Thomas comes to her office after the agents leave and they make love again, Sophie realizes Thomas is suffering a sort of post-traumatic syndrome where he doesn’t remember a specific block of time in the last day. She wants to help him, so she invites him back to the lake to rest and recuperate.

And this is where Ms. Kery really turns up the heat. A few days is all that is covered for the majority of the book, and the sex these two share during this time makes the reader combust. Thomas thinks he’s changed, not realizing the trauma he’s suffering. The times he’s rough when loving Sophie makes him feel the need to apologize for being a beast with her. A girl should be so lucky to have such a beast, let me tell you. And Sophie knows that. She’s just as voracious for Thomas as he is for her, and she’s more than willing to give herself to him in any way he wants.

In between the loving making, Sophie does try to pull information out of Thomas to get to the crux of his issues, but he’s having none of it. Thomas begins to doubt Sophie and her kindness when things don’t add up for him anymore. But I like that despite all of that, he can’t stay away from her. He thinks it’s because of this change in himself when it’s truly just because he’s found the right woman but doesn’t realize it because of all the chaos in his life.

There aren’t many clues, that I caught anyway, to let us know what’s going to happen at the end. Thomas loyally defends his father against all accusations, Sophie raises questions that should give Thomas pause. It’s not until Thomas’ memory returns in a flash of fear for Sophie that we, and Thomas, get the truth. And evil doesn’t have anything on the villain in this book.

A smoldering, sexy hero with a strong, willing heroine, both trying to get at some mysterious truth, make this erotic story come alive. You won’t want to miss this erotic romance. It’s……explosive!

One thing that really struck me about Explosive was how aptly named this book was because everything about it was...Explosive.

Thomas Nicasio was an explosives expert in the Navy, there’s a big explosion in the storyline and Thomas and Sophie’s relationship exploded off the pages...again and again, lots of times...they both experienced multiple...errr explosions. Getting the picture? This book was explosively good.

Dr. Sophie Gable is so looking forward to a month of rest and relaxation at her secluded lake house. Nothing to do but decompress, swim, read and relax. AHHHHH sounds like heaven! So nothing could prepare her for the shock of finding an acquaintance from work Thomas Nicasio on her dock the first night of her vacation. What?

Sophie and Thomas know each other in a “Hi. How you doing” polite greeting kind of way since they both worked in the same office building and the are “aware” of each other. Sophie knows immediately that Thomas is out of sorts and is acting very strange indeed but she doesn‘t want to make a wrong move or push too hard. So she's pretty surprised by what happens next since it’s so totally out of character for her when they fall into bed together and have mind-blowing sex. And I guess it really did blow Thomas’ mind since he can’t remember it the next day. That’s got to be a little hard on a girl’s ego?

Sophie’s right. Thomas isn’t acting normal. In fact he’s suffering from traumatic amnesia after several events in a row have sent him over the deep end - the death of his adopted brother and nephew, his adopted father is being accused of being a mob boss - something Thomas absolutely refuses to believe and it’s all just too much. He’s a mess the night he shows up at Sophie’s lake house but one thing’s for sure - he’s got a powerful, inexplicable sexual hunger for Dr Sophie Gable - Explosive!

It almost seemed like Sophie was Thomas’ lifeline, his only salvation to keep whatever memories he was repressing so he didn't completely splinter apart. He was like a live wire, on edge, ready to crack at any moment. Sex with Sophie seemed to be the only way to keep him marginally sane. So they have lots and lots of sex. Ms. Kery knows how to write steamy, erotic romance, explosive sexual encounters, but even I may have thought there was too much focus on the sex. The story was good enough and Sophie was a professional woman, I felt she was above just being used by Thomas for sex for whatever was wrong with him especially when their actions took a turn that I felt was totally out of character for Sophie.

I don’t think there was any mystery where this story was headed, but I was hooked wondering what would happen when Thomas regained his memory and how he would deal with the fallout and what it would mean for his and Sophie’s relationship.

The suspense story in Explosive was actually pretty interesting and when Thomas finally does regain his memories - well it was explosive!

Explosive is a page turning mystery with plenty of suspenseful moments. The story opens with Thomas being frustrated because chucks of his last few days are missing. Without really thinking he seeks out the one person that he really shouldn’t involve in his mess of a life.

Sophie is a doctor that Thomas has been attracted to for a long time. She’s kind and sweet. Despite the public drama that Thomas and his family are going through and him coming to her looking like hell warmed over, Sophie is naïve enough to invite the stranger into her home.

Blame it on her mutual attraction plus her doctoral need to help, but Thomas takes full advantage of everything that Sophie offers. This is where Explosive kicks into high gear and the mystery takes a backseat to erotic scenes that left my mouth hanging open. I had assumed that Thomas sought Sophie out because she was a therapist and he simply wanted someone that he could trust to help him sort through his feelings, but boy did he have a lot of feelings that really needed to be worked through.

Thomas needed the good doctor for another type of therapy. Thomas is one of those men that demand to be satisfied and is very creative in the bedroom. There are quite a few smutty scenes that I wouldn’t mind bookmarking for future references. Despite all the sexual attraction, Sophie’s presence actually made Thomas feel safer and helped him pick up the pieces.

I loved the book, not because I’m a smut fan, but because it was well written and I was immediately pulled into the story. The relationship between Thomas and Sophie was instant, but it worked. He was broken and Sophie helped fix him. The mystery behind Thomas’s amnesia unfolded at the right pace so I wasn’t able to guess what was coming next and spoil the outcome.

Doctor Sophie Gable had seen Thomas Nicasio watching her in the office where his brother worked, but he had always kept his distance. She's on summer vacation and he shows up unexpectedly on her dock at the lake, looking mussed and dazed. She knows he's been dealing with a lot in his personal life lately, but until now their lives had barely crossed. Now he's saying he came for her. They get their groove on and he splits before she wakes up. The next time she sees him he's being escorted by two serious-looking guys she suspects might be feds so she decides it's a good idea to pretend she doesn't know him. He does the same but he's obviously affected by seeing her again. Thomas’s adoptive brother and nephew were killed in a supposed accident, but Sophie suspects it was a mafia-related hit. He’s caught in a dangerous game but his memory isn't working right, and now they're both in danger.

Explosive immediately gives you a sense of why Beth Kery is on everyone's ‘Wow!’ list. Thomas has a dominant, intense, raging lust for Sophie and when it’s combined with her eager willingness it creates a delicious intensity that I love. The book also had a great element of suspense that kept me guessing.

This was an overall fantastic book with powerful emotions and I hated to put it down. I probably would have read cover to cover in one sitting if I didn't have to eat, sleep, and work. This is a very highly recommended keeper.

My first Kery book. I had read reviews, which was good, because I then knew what to expect. I agree with everyone who says the beginning was confusing with the back and forth in the story timeline. I was surprised, however, by how good the mystery / suspense subplot; I really thought it was great! Had this been a regular romantic suspense - or even only a suspense novel - it would have been excellent, with more time therefore being spent on developing that part of the story. I don't know if I'm the only one who felt that way, but I thought the twists and turns were great. Usually erotica books have no plot to speak of, so I was surprised by how strong this one's was and I do seriously wish it had been more fully developed and used in a full-on suspense novel (with or without romance).

Regarding Sophie and Thomas ... well, I liked them and the chemistry between the two was good. Frankly, I feel like evaluating the relationship and romance in a book like this is a little (i.e. LOT) misplaced, since that's not the point of the story - take out the sex scenes and there aren't enough pages for anything to really develop! These two were like rabbits on steroids ... who drank 5-hour energy drinks every hour on the hour ... and chased them down with 5 shots of caffeine. In all seriousness though, I did find them both to be very likable and I liked the vulnerability / insecurity that each felt and that the other reassured and strengthened them over.

I had trouble getting into this; there were a lot of confusing flashbacks and I kept feeling unsure of where I was in the story. That calmed down after a while and by the last quarter of the book I’d gotten intrigued by the complex plot. I think if this had been more conventional romantic suspense I would really have liked it, but the long, explicit sex descriptions didn’t interest me much.

Hot and sexy Thomas Nicasio runs to Dr Sophie Gable. He has amnesia and doesn't know what his tortured mind is hiding from him. He also believes that Sophie can help relieve his anguish.

His adoptive father is being investigated. He could be a mob boss.

What are Thomas' secrets and will their love affair survive his secrets when they are revealed?

I really like this book. It was different. It was something unexpected. it didn't happen the way I thought it would happen. Although many seem to have figured it out from the middle of the book I must be a slow type person and did not figure it out until it became apparent. it surprised me and I liked it.

The suspense plot worked, but there was just too much sex. Yes, I know it's erotica, but I was bored.

Hot just hot. Take a lot of cold showers when you read this scorcher. The storyline is intense with a few twists and turns to keep you glued. Read it in 24 hours it was that good. Thomas characterisation is vulnerable whilst being strong which sometimes can get lost in transition with other writers. But not Beth Kerry.

Overall a good thriller that made you wonder what’s going to happen next. Had moments in the book that were low and the ending seemed a little rushed. Would love to know where they ended up especially by the last page or the book.
