read for comparative politics class. read whole book & took notes and found it pretty easy to digest and clear to the reader. one star off for occasionally annoying sentences and remarks.

This book made me want to study comparative politics. I actually think that’s what I’m going to do. I was on an airplane a couple days ago and an economics professor from Georgia(the country) was next to me. We ended up talking about world politics and global governance and for the first time ever in one of those conversations I knew what I was talking about. This is of course because of my professor, too. For a textbook, this was extremely interesting, and I recommend.

in my opinion, this book does an inadequate job of demonstrating the way in which political institutions determine political outcomes. also, there is less of an emphasis on inequality in this book than i would like. the only real advantage this book has over other materials for teaching a comparative politics class is the price--it is cheap compared to its competitors.
