Caitlin has returned home after a self-imposed exile. Haunted by the erotic memories of the man she once loved and abandoned, Caitlin is unprepared to come face-to-face with Selig and the hunger resurrected under his golden gaze. Even as her body craves his touch, she denies him, realizing her reasons for terminating their relationship so long ago are as valid now as they were then. Six years have passed since Selig left New Eden, Washington, disillusioned and bitter after Caitlin's cold denial of him and his love. Now he's returned, demanding retribution for her cruel rejection. The payment-her body.
Published since 2009, USA Today Bestselling author Naima Simone loves writing sizzling romances with heart, a touch of humor and snark. Her books have been featured in The Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly, and described as balancing “crackling, electric love scenes with exquisitely rendered characters caught in emotional turmoil.”
She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.
Pardon me while I gush, but I’m simply crazy about this book! It had everything I like.
- Hot sex. Check - Revenge theme. Check - Lots of sensual tension. Check - Sexy alpha male. Check - Good plot. Check - Strong emotions and passion. Check - Crazy, obsessed ex-boyfriend who won’t leave the heroine alone (not usually on my list, but boy, was Nicholas a piece of work!). Check - Hot sex. Check (oh, wait, I said that already)
Sweet Ultimatum captures your attention from page one and doesn’t slow down from there. Every time Selig and Caitlin are near each other, the chemistry, the longing, and the tension leaps off the page. They had sex often, but it never seemed gratuitous because there was so much more going on in the story. Because you know why Caitlin broke off their relationship but Selig doesn’t know, it makes the interaction even more emotional.
The author has a strong voice (which I love!) and uses it to tell a captivating story you’ll find difficult to put down. Check out the excerpt below. I had to take out some of the words because of the language, but this should give you an idea of what you’re missing:
“Selig watched Caitlin walk away. The smooth caramel expanse of skin bared by the backless dress taunted him like a red flag enrages a bull. He knew that skin up close and personal. His lips had traced each vertebra. His tongue had tasted the perspiration that had rolled down her back . . . Thanks to the dreams that tormented him these past six years, he’d never forgotten . . . F**k the dreams. He wanted reality now. He would have reality now. Molars locked into a hard grind, he clenched his fingers into fists at his side and fought back the urge to charge after her.”
Or this little nugget from Selig to Caitlin:
“If you had given me the choice, Caitlin, I would have rather had six joy-filled days with you than six bitter years without you.” Selig, Selig, Selig, you had me at “Hello, Caitlin.”
If I could give this story a 10, I would. Alas, Ms. Simone will have to settle for all that Goodreads allows: a mere 5.
This book is too juicy for words, you have murder, secrets, jealousy, very hot erotic sex, and two sexy characters Selgin and Caitlin.
This is my first time reading this author and I truly appreciate her writing and this book. The way the book starts, draws you in, it's a steamy start right from the first word. If you like that raw erotica then this is for you. The sexual language is strong so if you know your not up for that then this isn't for you. The book is cheaper on other sites.
Story: GOOD Intimacy: D.R.I.P = Don't Read In Public Enjoyment: GOOD
This was my first read by Naima Simone and I'm sure it won't be the last. It had a little bit of everything...a hunky hero, a strong heroine, angry sex, romance, hot sex, blackmail, murder and did I mention the sex? Oh yeah I did...
This book has a lot blackmail and skeletons in the closet and of course crazy psychos!!! All in all the story was good and the relationship between Selig and Caitlin was HOT. The only problem I had with this is that I felt Caitlin did a piss poor job at hiding the "issue" and should've come clean earlier but hey!
Loved every minute of this emotionally charged novel. Sorry about the spoiler but what a piece of work that Nicholas is. He well and truly deserved his comeuppance. I truly love an HEA.
Well done Naima. I would heartily recommend this novel.
