Anatole is just a little too perfect. He’s so good at everything and he never needs anything that it’s almost no fun to read him anymore. He seems a little arrogant now.

This is all about Anatole getting a mouse-size piano and there is only 1 in the country that actually plays. It’s all about music, this book. Anatole conducts a Symphony orchestra while working at a factory. Here, Eve Titus has her cake and eats it too. Anatole is also a world class pianist. What can’t Anatole do?

Despite all this, it is cute how Anatole ends up getting the piano, contrived, but it works for the history of the story. It’s still worth 3 stars.

The nephew wasn’t into this book. He thought this one was boring too and I think he’s getting tired of these. He gave this 1 star. It’s monster season and he wants monsters.

What a wonderful book!

The illustrations were very dated but adorable. The story was wholesome and uplifting. Altogether, I am enthralled with the character of Anatole, and am going to search my library and ThriftBooks to see if I can find the rest of the series.

Why couldn't I have found Anatole when I was a little kid? I would have fallen in love with this industrious and talented little mouse.

Little known gem of children's books. All of the Anatole books are great reads. He teaches noble character, truthfulness, and integrity to little children. Mouse magnifique!

Children, cover your eyes: That said, this is another sweet story of Anatole doing a good deed to save the day. It's a bit disjointed, and personally I'm not a big fan of the benevolence toward poor orphans trope, I think the story would have worked just as well if the concert had been for any old group of kids. Regardless, I'm totally in favor of exposing kiddos to plenty of stories of kindness and altruism, so this gets a thumbs up from me.
