Aside from a few short stories about Keanu Reeves, A Girls Guide to Guys is Rachel's first attempt at writing. She has just trudged her way through her school years and is now ready to begin the hard life of a university student; where it is clearly all serious work and early mornings.
As well as giving her an excuse to laze around and read books all day, she hopes her choice of an English Literature course will finally knock the confusion between 'your' and 'you're' out of her once and for all.
A Girls Guide to Guys was written as a result of Rachel being absolutely hopeless when it came to anything boy related. Turning to girly magazines, she found some help in numerous how to articles but found mainly that these were written for semi-capable people who only needed a little push in the right direction.
Rachel did need someone to tell her how to do something; she needed someone to tell her how to do everything, right down to the shoes to wear. Because it's all very well to tell someone to 'smile alluringly' but there is a surprisingly fine line between 'flirting with your eyes' and scary evil stare.
Sometime later, when she'd finally gathered her information together from a secret boy source who may or may not know his giving away of guy secrets have found their way into a book, she decided that there was a slim chance there were other girls out there similarly hopeless with boys and so maybe she should share what she'd found out.
The guide is introduced by a character called Gabby who leads the reader through the guide explaining all about the strange alien life from that gives every girl problems, BOYS! Why Gabby? Because then she can pretend it is her alter ego who knew what to do all along.

A Girls Guide to Guys … Meeting Them, Managing Them, and all that Love Stuff by Rachel Hill is a very, very Funny guide for girls looking at trying to understand boys (As If) I saw this book long before it was published as I was asked to do the illustrations for Rachel, I really enjoyed doing the manga drawings of the characters Rachel talks about both the girls and boys in the boy catalogue (how to pick a boy) and I do hope you enjoy looking at my artwork, if you would like to see more of my work or have problems ordering the book take a look at the books website www.gabby-guides.com
This book was very hilarious and it is definitely the first dating book I have read that has given me specific outfit ideas. The manga was great too. I couldn't help wishing that some of the boys drawn in there were real *sigh*. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that it's too short! I WANT MORE! A good read for the weekend and a gem for your bookshelf (or in my case, the desk in my room). Boys may come and go, but this one's a keeper.
Dealing with boys will never be a problem again, with A Girl’s Guide to Guys, any girl could now have a handy manual on how to meet them, manage them and all that love stuff with them…
I especially like the author’s chatty tone, it was just like to talking to a close friend about relationships and love… I somehow become so connected to it, I think it might pass as my bestfriend..:)…
What I love most about this book is not just the contents but the manga art as well… OMG!...it’s really perfect, it somehow captures my attention, and I’m sure the other girls as well, the illustrations are perfect, it showed the kind of guys described...and they are all cute.. and also the girls wardrobe are a vivid description of how someone would look wearing that….
I could definitely say the book is everything, from what kind of boys to choose, what to wear on a date, what attracted them most to girls, what to do and don’t…it is basically a step-to-step- process in order for a girl to find the one…yup…from finding to rejecting,,it’s all there..:)
Pack with excellent advices and easy stages that would surely point you to your BOY…cute, funny and informational..I love this book plus with adorable illustrations.
Me?...I haven’t finish yet reading it,..cause I’m still experimenting with the tips but so far it all worked out for me…SO maybe, you should try it tooooo and forget that boys are problems…:)
I read this in a few hours, but it was very cute and had me laughing. The different types of guys mentioned in the book are really funny and very true. It has some British-English words in it that may not make since to some of us Americans (me included), but it is still understandable in context. Originally I thought this books would be the perfect book for young girls who are having sleepovers to read from while gossiping and thinking about what boy in their class that they will marry. After finishing the book I think every woman young and old would get a kick out of this and possibly learn something.
My Thanks to Nicholas Reardon who sent me the copy I won on Goodreads. I am sure to be recommending it to the teens I work with as well as friends and family.
It was a hilarious guide! I couldn't stop laughing at all the stuff that was true. A Girls Guide to Guys: Meeting Them, Managing Them and All that Love Stuff is a funny and thought proving book which you should pick up and enjoy a good read. Much of the stuff is useful and will bring new humor to your ears!
