Who said money can’t buy everything?

Erik Aasen has never failed to get what he wants. If money equals power and power equals influence, then Erik is at the top of the social strata. But when fate tosses a sexy classical musician named Talia Davies into his path, Erik discovers that the one thing he wants more than anything else is priceless.

When a one-night stand with Erik becomes much more than she ever could have imagined, Talia realizes she’s in way over her head. Growing up with nothing means understanding compromise. But the only thing Talia has is her self respect and that isn’t for sale at any cost. Not even when Erik is the buyer and the price is millions.

It doesn’t take Erik long to realize that Talia is worth everything he has. But a lifetime together might be more costly than either one of them expected. When worlds collide and the sheets catch fire, both will have to place a value on love, trust, and loyalty.

Prince Charming has nothing on business magnate Erik's pursuit of musician Talia. In STRUNG OUT, Talia gets the fairy tale of love along with wealth and social status, but quickly learns that life isn't what she really wants.

Classical musician Talia Davies is startled by the instant and huge awareness she has to Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome...aka Erik Aasen. Erik is as shocked as Talia when he hears himself ask her out after a wedding reception. After all, he's there with another woman and this beautiful little cello player is sooo not his type. Raw animal attraction leads the two of them into bed that very night, but for some reason Erik is strangely bereft to realize she's left him in the morning. Even with a potential business merger/engagement looming, he'll be dammed if he's going to let Talia end things like that!

Torn between doing what he needs to do for his company and making Talia a permanent part of his life, Erik makes a series of arrogant moves that has Talia questioning whether she has any hope of fitting into his world. Even after Erik broke things off with the other woman and dumped a potential billion dollar business move, Talia questions whether a rich playboy and a bootstraps musician can really make a life together, since the man he is with her is a completely different person in front of his family and business associates.

As disgust and disdain emanates from those in Erik's social circle as well as his family, Talia knows she's in danger of losing herself and everything she's built for this wonderful man. The two of them will have to make some very big decisions if they have any hope of making a relationship work.

STRUNG OUT is book one in the Boston Avant-Garde series and can be read as a standalone novel. In STRUNG OUT, you really get two stories in one. The first half focuses on the drama of a lowly musician and a wealthy playboy getting to know one another and trying to decide whether amazing sex and a soul-deep connection are enough to rock the very foundation of each other's worlds. The incredible chemistry between Erik and Talia is immediate, and you can't help but root for the two of them to make it despite the odds. Their sexual exploits are outrageously hot, which takes a lot for me to say in a pretty vanilla MF book!

The second half of STRUNG OUT features the fallout of Erik and Talia's decisions. Between his horrid family and business associates, I felt absolutely terrible for Talia and really wanted to wring Erik's neck! The change in Erik between the first and second half was pretty dramatic, from sweet and charming lover to arrogant and clueless tycoon once the two of them officially came out as a couple. He treated Talia like a business transaction and I appreciated that Talia wouldn't stand for it.

As the first book in this series, I was highly impressed by Ms. Maitland and am looking forward to more of her terrific writing!

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads~~

This is the first in a series - and I started with the last in the series, so working my way back to the beginning, as I enjoyed it so much!

I loved this story. It is incredibly romantic and really highly implausible - yet it just works as a lovely hot, sexy, and very satisfying read. There is nothing new with a rich guy/ poor girl scenario, and yet this does it particularly well, and partly that is because Erik is able to learn lessons, and Talia has a backbone. They also have some great friends - who I guess will be the leads in future stories, which I am looking forward to no end. I enjoyed the level of description about places, rooms etc. without it becoming a magazine article. Clothes were referenced, but again without obsessiveness. An easy read, which had me forgetting lunch so I could just keep turning the pages.

I am looking forward to immersing myself in Crescendo, which is the next in the series, very soon.

Strung Out by Kaitlin Maitland
Contemporary Romance -June 8th,2010

The title does not do this book justice. I thought it would be the typical steamy sexy story with lots of sex scenes, but this one was so much more. It was definitely a book that could stand on its own because Maitland does a great job of inserting humor into this contemporary story.

This romance is about Erik Aasen, a successful Entrepreneur who built his own business from the ground up. He is used to having his way and is a bit of a spoiled player and cynic. Fortunately, he has met his match in Talia, an artistic musician who is grounded and beautiful inside and out. But both of them are in a strange conundrum. Talia has just gotten out of a broken engagement and is looking to have some fun with her new freedom. Erik wants to experience some freedom before considering marrying since her wants to build his business. But love will not be denied. What was supposed to be a one night stand, turns out to much, much more. As they deal with mergers, new opportunities, and disapproving family and friends Erik and Talia grow to truly love one another. They have a fantastically fun time getting to known each other both in and outside of the boardrooms and bedrooms of Boston.

This story exceeded my expectations. I really liked how I got a sense of who the characters were. It was the perfect short story for reading by the pool, and yes, it also was pretty steamy so reading by the pool was the perfect way to cool off.
