Judy Hindley, who has written more than fifty books for children, has a special knack for capturing the language and subjects that delight preschoolers. Among her books are THE BIG RED BUS, THE PERFECT LITTLE MONSTER, and THE BEST THING ABOUT A PUPPY. She is also the author of the immensely popular EYES, NOSE, FINGERS, AND TOES and DO LIKE A DUCK DOES.
This book gives a very detailed explanation of how a castle and medieval town operate. It shows what goes on behind the walls of the castle and inside the keep, what sorts of shops and people work in and visit the town, how a medieval building was constructed, how a squire trains to be a knight and what goes down at a jousting tournament. The book is a bit dated and kind of has that 70s feel to it, but the information was great and the illustrations were very detailed. My six year old was captivated; we read it together in one sitting.
I’m actually pretty shocked to discover how much my daughter loves these Usborne Time Traveller books. I am not fond of the layout of these books. For me, it’s way too busy. I don’t know where to look. But for a visual learner like my daughter, this is a perfect book. I am a visual learner, but I’m not young so maybe that’s the difference. Ha! Anyway, if you have a VISUAL learner, gives these Usborne Time Traveller books a try. They are a visual feast!
