About the author

Kōtarō Isaka (伊坂幸太郎, Isaka Koutarou) is a Japanese author of mystery fiction.

Isaka was born in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. After graduating from the law faculty of Tohoku University, he worked as a system engineer. Isaka quit his company job and focused on writing after hearing Kazuyoshi Saito's 1997 song "Kōfuku na Chōshoku Taikutsu na Yūshoku", and the two have collaborated several times. In 2000, Isaka won the Shincho Mystery Club Prize for his debut novel Ōdyubon no Inori, after which he became a full-time writer.
In 2002, Isaka's novel Lush Life gained much critical acclaim, but it was his Naoki Prize-nominated work Jūryoku Piero (2003) that brought him popular success. His following work Ahiru to Kamo no Koin Rokkā won the 25th Yoshikawa Eiji Prize for New Writers.
Jūryoku Piero (2003), Children (2004), Grasshopper (2004), Shinigami no Seido (2005) and Sabaku (2006) were all nominated for the Naoki Prize.
Isaka was the only author in Japan to be nominated for the Hon'ya Taishō in each of the award's first four years, finally winning in 2008 with Golden Slumber. The same work also won the 21st Yamamoto Shūgorō Prize.

死神的精确度 xoay quanh Chiba - một Thần chết với nhiệm vụ theo dõi những đối tượng đã được chỉ định trong vòng 7 ngày. Chiba sẽ theo dõi cuộc sống của đối tượng và đưa ra quyết định "chết" hoặc "sống". Với sáu chương sách cũng là sáu câu chuyện của mỗi con người, bản thân mình được chứng kiến những khoảnh khắc vui tươi, buồn bả trong những cuộc sống đó. Những cảm xúc sợ hãi, hận thù, yêu, thất vọng rồi lại hy vọng được thể hiện rất cảm động.

Điều đặc biệt là cuốn sách này làm mình nhớ đến cuốn sách khác của Isaka Kotaro mà mình đã đọc (双子星), cái cách ông ấy sắp xếp những diễn biến rất ngạc nhiên và hợp lý. Isaka Kotaro còn mang đến những nhân vật thú vị, mình đã đồng cảm, luyến tiếc cho cuộc sống của những con người đó. Thần chết của Isaka Kotaro rất mới lạ và thú vị cùng những luật lệ và miêu tả về họ, thú vị làm sao khi Thần chết cũng thích âm nhạc như con người. Cũng như cách Isaka để cho những nhân vật trong những cuốn sách khác xuất hiện một lần nữa trong cuốn sách này.

Bối cảnh câu chuyện luôn có mưa, nó mang đến cho mình một cảm giác gì đó vừa lạnh lại vừa tươi mát. Dưới lời kể của Chiba - ông ấy là một Thần chết nên cái nhìn của ông ấy về cuộc sống của con người cũng lạnh lùng và vô cảm, chỉ có con người là thể hiện cảm xúc. Có lẽ bản thân mình thích cuốn sách này một phần vì sự "mới lạ" của nó. Cái chết luôn luôn đến một cách bất ngờ và không thể nào đoán trước được, hãy luôn trân trọng cuộc sống của bạn nhiều nhất có thể, hay chỉ là sống thật tốt.♡

ทั้งขำ ทั้งเศร้าประปรายแบบซึ้งๆ ปน feel good

เป็นหนังสือนิยายที่อ่านแล้วให้ความรู้สึกเหมือนกำลังอ่านการ์ตูน manga เลย
สนุกมาก แถมยังมีมุกตลกหน้าตาย เรียกรอยยิ้มกับการหัวเราะ หึหึ ระหว่างที่อ่านได้เป็นระยะ

ทั้งๆ ที่เป็นเรื่องของยมทูตกับความตาย แต่ไม่ได้ทิ้งอารมณ์เศร้า อึดอัด มืดทึบไว้เลย
แม้พล็อตเรื่องจะบอกตั้งแต่แรกว่าเป็นเรื่องของยมทูตในร่างมนุษย์ แต่การเล่าภารกิจของยมทูตออกมาเป็นตอนๆ นี่ ทำได้ดี ไม่น่าเบื่อเลย

ตัวยมทูตนี่ก็ตลกหน้าตาย แถมตอนจบยังทำได้ยอดเยี่ยมมากอีกด้วย

Title: Accuracy of Death

This is one of my all time favorite novels.
This is about a Death who sent to the earth to determine if those humans who are on the "Death list" should really be dead. The death is not a human, so he has no mercy, but he is learning how to speak like a human, and the conversations between humans and him are so funny.
I like Isaka's choice of words. It's a shame that none of his works has been translated into English yet.

ความรู้สึกเหมือนอ่านการ์ตูน ทำให้อ่านง่ายอ่านเร็ว ส่วนใหญ่จะบรรยายเรื่องผ่านบทสนทนาระหว่างตัวละคร

เนื้อเรื่องมีความเป็นนิยายสืบสวนสอบสวนหน่อยๆ ทำให้อ่านแล้วมีความน่าติดตาม และมีมุกเล็กๆ(ซึ่งบางครั้งรู้สึกเหมือนเป็นการเสียดสีความคิดของมนุษย์) แทรกอยู่ตลอดทั้งเรื่อง

ทั้ง 6 เรื่องมีทั้งเรื่องที่ชอบมากกับชอบเฉยๆ แต่ด้วยบทสรุปช่วงท้ายเล่ม ทำให้เรื่องที่เรารู้สึกเฉยๆกลับผลักตัวเองให้มีคุณค่าขึ้นมาและช่วยยกระดับความชอบของเรื่องก่อนๆที่เราอ่านผ่านมาแล้วขึ้นได้มากทีเดียว

จากทั้ง 6 เรื่อง เรียงตามความชอบคือ 5>6>4>2>3>1

The protagonist is a Death God whose job it is to make the final decision whether a person who is marked for death shall die.
In order to do this, he observes the person for a week while impersonating a human and in his case, building a relationship with the human. (He generally choses human males to impersonate, hence 'he'.)
Only, while he observes the human in question, he does not understand what he observes. The result is often touching, funny, at times quite bizarre.

I wish it would be picked up for translation, as I want to give it to friends who don't read Japanese.

2 ตอนแรกยังธรรมดา มาสนุกตอน 3-6

- ความตายกลางพายุหิมะ ฟีลโคนันคุงสืบคดีบ้านพักปิดตาย ไม่น่ากลัว แต่พอได้ลุ้นว่าใครเป็นคนร้าย หรือเหยื่อรายถัดไป

Traduction honteuse. Certains personnages changent de nom d'une page à l'autre, des expressions très étranges qui donnent l'impression d'une traduction littérale (quand on parle de déjections qui sortent de la bouche, ça évoque des excréments qui remontent, pas du vomi !)
Aucun soin apporté à la relecture, des bouts de phrases sont répétés, il manque certains mots... Je ne parle pas de fautes d'orthographe car c'est normal d'en avoir dans un livre, mais ici ce sont des erreurs qui auraient dû sauter aux yeux d'un éditeur.
Sinon le livre en soi n'a rien d'extraordinaire. Le personnage principal est volontairement plat, ce qui fait qu'on ne s'attache pas à lui ou à sa mission. J'ai mis du temps à lire ce livre par manque d'intérêt, le contraire d'un page-turner.

This is only the third book I've read from this author, but he's definitely getting into my very short "favorite authors whom I have absurdly high expectations for" list. I honestly had no idea what I was getting into when I picked this book, but I'm glad I did because it was so good, I loved it.

Here's the thing. (Please, skip ahead to the next paragraph if you don't care.) There's someone I... know who often sometimes mentions that Isaka Kotaro is his favorite author, which is the main reason I've been picking the very few books of this author to have been translated here (not that anyone cares, but that means to French). Except for 重力ピエロ / Pierrot-la-Gravité that I knew and read before because it's one of his numerous books that had been adapted to screen. I was genuinely curious because this author is pretty much unknown here, despite us importing/translating an awful lot of works from around the world (as opposed to certain other supposedly-powerful countries). However, I had a hard time evaluating オーデュボンの祈り / La prière d'Audubon / Audubon's Prayer because I most definitely enjoyed reading it (even if it took me a while because digital and not physical reading), but I could never figure out how to put into words what I actually thought about it (which is why I never wrote a review for it). But after reading this third book, I now fully understand the feeling. (And now, Isaka Kotaro-san is in team "high expectations". Please don't fail me.)

Back to the point.

First, I admire how Isaka-san tries very different literary genres in his many books and comes out with brilliant pieces each time, each in their own individual way. Pierrot was more of a thriller, while Audubon was kind of a... reflectional one? This one would be like... slices of life with a bit of a humorous side, I guess. Something like that. And from the movie adaptations I've seen of アヒルと鴨のコインロッカー and グラスホッパー, these are both yet again something else.

This book actually presents itself as a series of independent short stories, but all of them having in common this protagonist: a shinigami aka. a god of death that we follow in his work duties. Well, actually, I'm saying "independent", but some of them loosely tie up to one another with 死神 reminiscing some of the past stories. (Also, that unexpected cameo of Pierrot's character Haru was a nice touch.) Spoiler alert: if you've read and/or watched Death Note, this shinigami is nothing like the apple-addict one. Although in some way, there's something very similar in both representations and their dominant traits (aka. detachment from human deaths and a very human-like addiction (Ryuk was apples, this one (actually these ones since it apparently applies to all of them in this book) is music)).

Although I've read a translation, there at least one part of the writing still that filters through: the humor. The many absurd conversations (mostly based on the shinigami's lack of knowledge about humans concepts -which actually reminded me of that (also Japanese) movie that came out last year: 散歩する侵略者 / Before We Vanish (and its aliens trying to understand human concepts before stealing them because heck it's easier (and funnier))), or even just the fact that it's written as from the POV of the shinigami (with all the stupid things about us that he does not understand at all) made the book very easy to read.

Finally, what's interesting about this book is how, deep down, it's not actually about this shinigami doing his job (much more seriously than his colleagues), but rather about all these slices of life of many different people (from this shy harassed woman, to this yakuza, to this handsome guy in love with a neighbor but too shy for his own good, to that murderer, to that little hairdresser lady...) and how their acts may lead to their death or just how they (or their entourage) deal with the closeness of death. At the end of the day (or the week, I guess), each story is touching in its own way.

Long story short, I unequivocally recommend it. And for a book dealing with death, it's actually a lighthearted reading. Heck, just take it on vacations with you, I swear it won't kill the mood !


Okay, one last note. Since the French publisher seems to acquire rights and translate this author's books super very randomly, but ゴールデンスランバー / Remote Control has been translated to English, I guess I'm gonna pick up this one soon (even if I hate how expensive hardback copies are). So, see you guys around within the next few months... or weeks more likely. I'm kind of an addict when it comes to my favorite authors so I need a regular fix.

Cuối cùng cũng hoàn thành xong cuốn sách này. Một cuốn sách khá thú vị gồm 6 mẩu chuyện ngắn với những suy nghĩ, quan niệm về cuộc đời của các nhân vật nên mang đến một cảm giác buồn mang mác. Có một vài chi tiết được kết nối với nhau khiến mình khá bất ngờ và xúc động. Rất đáng đọc.

Chiba, fonctionnaire-dieu de la Mort est chargé d'enquêter sur les humains qui vont mourir non naturellement, d'un accident ou d'un meurtre,. Appliquant une procédure rodée, dépendant de supérieurs hiérarchiques, il a une semaine pour déclarer la personne destinée à mourir "apte" ou "ajournée". Étranger au monde des humains, insensibles à la douleur, au sommeil, au froid ou mêmes aux émotions mais fasciné par la musique, Chiba va suivre le chemin de ces différentes personnes et découvrir qui ils sont, ce qu'ils ont fait...et s'ils sont "aptes" à mourir.

Narration épurée, ambiances urbaines ou citadines, huis-clos meurtrier , cavale d'un jeune en recherche de réponses, vieux, jeunes, meurtriers, vendeur de vêtement romantique, pluie, vieille coiffeuse hantée par un secret, neige; héros insaisissable, Chiba traverse des tragédies humaines sans en comprendre les enjeux mais le lecteur le sait. Chaque nouvelle est une vie entière...qui rappelle que la mort sera la fin de toutes ces existences.

Chroniques de la Mort mais en fait de la Vie: la mort des personnes ne nous est jamais montrée... nous sommes laissés avec ce qu'on a appris d'eux et ce sentiment diffus, qu'au contraire de Chiba, nous nous sommes attachés à eux...et peut être les recroisera-t-on mais nous n'arriverons jamais à percer tous leurs secrets puisque nous ne sommes, comme Chiba, que de passage.

Superbe roman.
On se laisse facilement entraîner dans les différentes histoires. On suit le fil des pensées du Shinigami sur les humains qu'ils rencontrent, leurs habitudes qui le laissent souvent perplexe. Mais on sent bien parfois une certaine curiosité et un désir d'apprendre chez lui. Malgré tout, il conserve son attitude un peu froide et détachée. A travers sa vision, on parvient à s'attacher aux personnes qu'ils rencontrent.
Vraiment, j'ai énormément aimé ce roman.

这已经是我第二次读完这本书了。说老实话，当年是因为金城武的关系才买下这本书，然后才迷上了伊坂幸太郎。其实和伊坂幸太郎其他的小说相比，这并不是一本难懂的书，而且娱乐价值相当高。书里的死神可以算是个不可靠的叙述者。他“对于人类的死亡漠不关心、理由是，那不过是工作；调查对象的人生会以何种形式结束，我不是很在意。”��者塑造的死神形象其实很讨喜。他是个因不识人间事，而常常闹笑话的人物。但是，每当我开始对死神心动的时候，作者就会通过故事情节来提醒我死神毕竟是死神，他是来夺命的。即使是和人物对象培养了感情，他还是会毫无犹豫地判他们死刑（除了第一个故事的女主角以外）。
我想自己会喜欢这本书是因为故事中死神对人类的观察客观地向我指出人类一些可笑的地方。另外，死神的冷漠也提醒了我世事无常，就如新田太太说的“至到盖棺论定之前，谁也不知道将面对什么事呀！”（个人非常喜欢小说的最后一章《死神和老奶奶》”）

这本书最发人省思的地方，也许就是看着故事中的主人公如何渡过生命中最后的八天。
死神上交的调查报告，基本上都是一个“可”字。但难保也有例外。
从现在开始，想象如果死神就在你身边，你还会这样过下去吗？你有办法在他上交报告之前，让他改变主意，把“可"改为“放行”吗？

這是我第二次看這本小說，不過大部份的劇情跟細節都忘了，所以跟重讀一樣XD
故事中的死神被分派到調查對象後，有七天觀察期，讓他們決定是「認可」死亡，或是「放行」讓調查對象繼續活下去。
第一次讀的時候，對於被認可的對象和他們身邊的人，我常常有「好可惜啊，要是能讓他繼續活著就好了」這樣的心情，因而埋怨作者為什麼不讓死神放行呢？
但這次看，我的想法則轉變為，或許作者就是想讓讀者看見生命消逝的惋惜之處，悄悄地把生存的慾望放進讀者的心也說不定？（總之就是一個inception的概念XD）

Donc un dieu de la Mort* fait des enquêtes sur des humains pour les juger apte ou pas à mourir. Il est envoyé en mission par une hiérarchie indéfinie qui ne lui donne les informations que s'il pense à les demander. Mais tout ça n'est absolument pas le sujet du livre.
Il est composé de 6 chapitres qui sont en fait des nouvelles car, à part une petite astuce dans l'une d'entre elles, elles sont parfaitement indépendantes au point que l'auteur y récapitule l'idée de base dans chacune. Le sujet de chaque nouvelle étant la vie de la personne que le dieu de la Mort évalue, on a donc des tranches de vies et des explorations de personnages. L’éventail est relativement vaste, entre la jeune fille un peu perdue et la vieille femme ayant vécu, en passant par le yakusa (évidemment), le gamin meurtrier et une histoire qui n'aurait pas dépareillé sous la plume d'Agatha Christie.
Ce dieu de la Mort, Chiba, sert également à faire le point sur la condition humaine dont, si ce n'était son métier, il n'a que très superficiellement à faire.
Une vision désenchantée de cette condition tout en conservant un optimisme certain fait l'intérêt de ces récits. Le style est assez direct, terre à terre (surtout dans les dialogues) mais s'offre ça et là des moments de poésie.

หนังสือพูดถึงยมทูตที่ชื่อชิบะ ซึ่งมีหน้าที่ไปตรวจสอบคนที่ถูกกำหนดไว้ว่า 'สมควรจะตาย' โดยเขามีเวลา 7 วันก่อนจะแจ้งผลกลับไปยังยมโลกว่าเป้าหมายนั้นควรจะถูก 'รับไว้' หรือ 'ปล่อยไป' ซึ่งถ้ารายงานผลว่า 'รับไว้' คนๆ นั้นจะต้องตายในวันที่ 8

หนังสือแบ่งเป็น 6 ตอนย่อย ไม่ได้เกี่ยวข้องกัน (บางบทอาจมีตัวละครที่เชื่อมโยงจากบทอื่นบ้าง แต่ไม่ได้มีนัยสำคัญต่อเนื้อหาในบทนั้นๆ) แต่ละบทคือสถานการณ์ที่ทำให้มนุษย์แต่ละคนตกอยู่ในห้วงความรู้สึกต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นความท้อแท้ ความโกรธแค้น ความรัก หรือความกลัว

อิซากะพยายามพาเราไปทำความเข้าใจชีวิตมนุษย์ในอีกแง่มุม ซึ่งเป็นมุมที่ค่อนข้างบริสุทธิ์ ปราศจากอารมณ์ความรู้สึกมาตัดสิน ผ่านตัวละครยมทูตอย่างชิบะที่มีความใสซื่อแบบเด็กๆโดยชิบะจะคอยตั้งคำถาม และพยายามทำความเข้าใจกับการกระทำ ความคิด ของมนุษย์ที่เขาต้องตรวจสอบ ซึ่งทำให้เราเห็นว่า จริงๆ บางทีคนเราก็คิดอะไรที่ไม่เม้คเซ้นส์ และบางทีก็ดูซับซ้อนจนเกินความจำเป็นอยู่ทีเดียว

โดยรวมหนังสืออ่านได้เพลินดี ได้ลุ้นเล็กๆ ว่าตกลงตัวละครในแต่ละบทจะรอดรึเปล่า บางบทก็ให้ความรู้สึกอบอุ่นใจได้ไม่น้อยเลย แต่มีบทหนึ่งที่ค่อนข้างฉีกไปทางแนวสอบสวน ซึ่งออกจะดูผิดแนวหนังสือไปหน่อย ส่วนการให้เหตุผลในการกระทำของตัวละครบางจุดของเรื่องก็อ่อนไปนิด

ส่วนตัวไม่อินกับนิยายแนวนี้เท่าไหร่ แต่ให้อ่านอีกก็อ่านได้ สรุปคือไว้อ่านฆ่าเวลาก็ดีอยู่

Une excellente pioche au rayon japonais ! Je ne pensais pas pouvoir être encore agréablement surprise, surtout que je prenais un risque avec un recueil de nouvelles, autour d'un thème a priori glauque, mais c'est subtil, délicieusement drôle, presque enchanteuresque, comme un joli conte (légèrement mâcabre certes^^), avec une pointe d'émotions malgré tout, et toujours surprenant au fur et à mesure que les histoires se déroulent.
J'ai particulièrement a-do-ré la première nouvelle que j'ai trouvé gé-niale, et la dernière, en lien avec une autre nouvelle, est une sacrée belle surprise aussi.
Un auteur vers lequel je compte revenir !

This novel was a lot of fun! I loved the character of the god of death and his little snarky remarks, and the concept was so original it really worked. Each future dead person we meet each have their own personnality and story so it was pretty appealing to read.
The book is easy to read, the writing is simple and effective with a few moments that made me smile, and despite a few repetitions it was a very good reading experience overall.

The last story wrapped up everything pretty well, never will it come to my mind that the old lady has anything to do with a young lady who made an appearance in the story earlier show up at the end again. Even though not any short stories particularly stand out, the whole collection is enjoyable and fun to read, Isaka is an author that can write heart-warming novels.

大概是最近看太多血腥暴力（對我就是說尤．耐斯博XD），突然就，有點想念伊坂了。
總之就看了，簡中版的翻譯和台版其實感覺相當不同，印象裡啦，我實在不太記得台版翻成什麼樣子，而且我的書也不曉得被我借到哪裡去了……
突然想到了就翻出來重看，做為短篇，死神系列真的很有魅力，而且是和平常的伊坂不太一樣的魅力。久違地重看，想想，這系列其實試著討論的不止是死亡，還是人類「活著」的本質吧，死神做為一個旁觀／客觀的存在，其偏向無機質的感想投射回人類對生死的意念上，竟意外有種溫和的質感，即使是死亡本身也同樣是溫柔、無需害怕的存在，從這一點去看其中的所有故事，反而讓人覺得溫暖起來。

可能我看的時候認知有點誤差，這本應該只是借"推理"的皮，卻是短篇文學(小說)的骨；這裡就不得不說一下導讀了，這本書的導讀是放在書末，前面是關於作者的介紹，內有提到本書於2006年與嫌疑犯X的獻身同樣入圍直木賞，可惜後來敗給了嫌疑犯該書，所以我想應該會跟嫌疑犯X的獻身般看到精采的詭計.......，所以這是本先讀導讀會比較有幫助的書(而且導讀真的寫的很好)!!當然這或許也是因為這是我看的第一本"伊坂幸太郎"的書的關係啦!!!如果能夠不要有先入為主的觀念，這真的是一本很不錯的書，尤其最後一篇還與前面幾篇互相呼應；在很多無奈中還加入一絲溫暖。

ไม้บรรทัดของยมทูต - โคทาโร่ อิซากะ (4/5)

เล่มนี้เป็นเรื่องสั้น แต่มีพล็อตเดียวกันคือ พระเอกเป็นยมทูต ที่แปลงตัวเป็นมนุษย์เพื่อตรวจสอบเป้าหมายที่กำลังจะตาย พระเอกตลกซื่อๆ อ่านแล้วต้องอมยิ้มแน่นอน แต่ก็ไม่ทิ้งความอบอุ่นกินใจ โดยเฉพาะตอนสุดท้าย จบได้สมบูรณ์แบบมากๆ ♥️♥️♥️

唯一喜欢的是死神与恋爱那个小故事，本来就因为癌症而注定活不久的男人依然能够为了喜欢的人去死，照主人公所说的“不是最好的，但也不最糟”。对于幸福的定义，和十四岁时候的我一样呢：）
其他的故事也是不错的故事，但也没有很精彩，很牵强的把几个故事串联在一起，第一个故事有点看不下去，还是看到最后掉头回来重看的……
以后应该不会再看伊坂幸太郎的书了
