Ever since the draug—mysterious creatures that prey on vampires—took over Morganville, the lives of student Claire Danvers and her friends have been thrown into turmoil. Most of the town’s residents have evacuated, but Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael have chosen to stay and fight.Using the city’s water system to spread, the draug have rapidly multiplied. Things in Morganville look grim, especially since vampire Amelie—the town founder—has been infected by the master draug’s bite.

Now, if Claire and her friends don’t figure out how to cure Amelie and defeat the draug, it looks like Morganville will become little more than a ghost town…

just announced by Rachel:

In case you didn't hear the news yet: THERE WILL BE THREE MORE MORGANVILLE NOVELS after Book 12, bringing the total for the series to 15 books! I don't know titles yet, but will be able to share some by the end of the year. I just posted the cover for BLACK DAWN, book 12. - Rachel

AND COVER IS RELEASED~! LOVE IT<3

----------------------------------------------------------

Took me absolutely forever to finish this book. Mainly because it's summer and I didn't have the huge urge to read and because the beginning was hard to get into.

Black Dawn start where Last Breath left off. Morganville is under total chaos with Magnus and his draugs. Things are in total hell.

One thing that so different about Black Dawn is that the hilarious humor that is in the previous books, isn't here really. Sure they have their witty banter here and there, but the hilarious humor isn't here. Well considering how things are for the gang, I can get why.

I really liked the changing POV's, though there were A LOT. I think Caine pulled off the different POV's than L.A. Weatherly. But, oh my god, Shane's POV was so sad3 Aww Shane let me love you!

Now that the tables are turning and things are getting dangerous, how will Claire and the gang survive the next 3 books?! Hopefully the next book will be a much faster read and have the umph like the previous Morganville Vampire books!

Everything about the Morganville vampire’s series is getting so repetitive and tiresome. This book is so similar to previous books in the series – Claire and co are in danger. Michael broods. The gang try and come up with a solution to said danger which requires them moving from A to B for some reason or another. Eve makes smart-alecky remarks. Whist moving from A to B there’s a fight with the bad guys. Michael broods some more. Claire and co think they’re dead but somehow manage to survive the fight with the supposedly unbeatable bad guys. Shane gets angsty about his daddy/mummy/sister/girlfriend issues. The gang again have to move from A to B, whilst moving they have another fight with bad guys, and rinse and repeat. Michael broods. Claire and Myrnin have to find a scientific solution to save the day. Shane continues to angst about his life. Claire wuvs Shane and using the power of twu wuv, she tries to help him. A solution to beat the bad guys is found at the last minute. Shane wuvs Claire and decides to stops angsting for all of 5 minutes because that’s the kind of thing you do for your one twu wuv. Shockingly Michael broods. Claire and co fight the good fight and what do you know they win. But oh noes!! Claire and co can’t get too happy because they might have beat the bad guys but there’s the other bad guys they have to fight. So there has to be yet another sequel in the neverending Morganville saga so we can find out if Claire and co survive and find out if Michael ever stops brooding .
I didn’t like the multiple POV’s, it was hard to distinguish between voices because they all sounded so similar..thankfully R.Caine had the good sense to note who was narrating each scene because otherwise it’d be impossible to tell who was who. The narrative also changes from 3rd person POV to 1st person which was annoying because it just bought me out of the story. Pretty much everyone got a POV except for Myrnin and Monica who I would have actually preferred to read about.
Over the course of the series Claire seems to have morphed from an intelligent, studious character to a cookie cutter blah YA heroine. I’m bored with Claire’s vanilla, do goody and boring personality, so much so that I was wish I could read from Monica’s POV – yes Monica’s a crazy bully and a little psycho but at least she’s interesting and full of fire.
I’ll only be reading the last 3 books because I’ve come this far and I’m hoping the last 3 will have a more original and solid storyline.

Black Dawn....ooooooh sounds all mysterious and dark.

I looooooove these books, don't get me wrong, but does anyone else want them all to be happy for five minutes or just get the fucking balls to run out of town for good? Or can't these kids just figure out that their town is going to hell and to just leave? I find myself feeling that sometimes, but I still love these books.

Also, I found the last book significantly creepier than the other eleven of them. Anyone? Anyone think that either? I'm just curious to see what happens.

Ooops hold your horses guys possible teasers and spoilers in here....

Okay don't say I didn't warn you?!!!

Now carry on.....

Hey so I just finished reading this book I mean just now actually and I'm still having the after -effects of it.....
So let's go to my review ..there's a lot I like about this book one of those are the times when MYRNIN is clearly showing his affection for CLAIRE (don't get me wrong guys I'm still team SHANE) I'm also happy for EVE and MICHAEL they finally had their plan come true in the end (nope not telling you what that is)
also I was a little scared that SHANE and CLAIRE will actually break up because of what happened to SHANE and what it was doing to him I thought he will actually give up....oooh and also I love the baby's name CARRIE. (don't know where she get it though)

But I actually thought CLAIRE would be the one to you know kill MAGNUS and save the world because she seems to be having a lot of major role there also I was a bit disappointed about how they killed him it's just looks so easy its like when you read about it you'll be all ... That's it he's dead??? ..... And about AMELIE I didn't doubt it for a second that she'll make it in the end.. I just know RACHEL would be able to pull it off but actually I had a tiny little thouhgt that maybe AMELIE should have died because I was
scared to death of how things would turn out now that the rules have been change and damn did it look bad and did I mentioned scary???? ...But all in all I love it definitely!??!

So I have one little question before I end this.... IS TOMORROW NOVEMBER ALREADY???????

:Some Spoilers:

I tell myself every time I finish one of these books not to bother reviewing it since I sound like a freaken broken record. It's true, just read the 11 past reviews. But at last, I simply can't resist gushing about how un-freaken-believable this series is!

In the lastest episode, Black Dawn, Claire and the gang continue to fight off a common enemy between humans and vampires. Magnus and his hive of draugs.
Now lets just take a moment here so I can properly geek-out how badly I loved this plot-line. Who would have thunk something could be worse then the vampires of Morganville? These draugs don't mess around and with the cool use of traveling through anything water makes them utterly chill-worthy and fascinating at the same time.
Leave it to Caine people! But I do wish the plot-line could have stretched out to at least one more book, but then again I guess a dire situation on hold would seem strange, but now I'm really curious what Caine plans to do for the next three books.

There is just so much to love about these books. Every time I reach for the latest Morganville it truly feels like coming home. Caine's writing is so easy to slide into and I look forward to what ever comic-whip she has in store for these characters to say next. I feel like I know each them so perfectly and as silly as it sounds, it's like they've become friends. I adore the romance, the banter, the wit, the sarcasm and the way they all look out for one another, and that includes Myrnin. He's one of the best things about these books and when it's all said and done, Myrnin better be standing there in all his madness, cause I can't even fathom a Morganville without him in it. Oliver can go away though, he had slight moments here and there, but yeah, he can go away now please.
But it's more then these beloved characters, it's also the speed of danger and the rush of excitement, and never evah not knowing what's gonna happen next.

At the risk of sounding like a complete cheese-ball, I'm gonna gush about some of my favorite moments.
The entire novel is just amazing mind you, but I feel the need to give some proper shout outs. One was to chapter seven. That was some of Caine's best work, or at least to me. We all know what kind of character Shane is, so when he went through the motions in that chapter I felt just as trapped and terrified and longed for the things he saw. Powerful stuff.
The next shout out is for this quote;
"Claire, don't. We're not your enemies--don't do this...We love him, too."
"Not fucking enough, you don't!" she snapped, and left them there."

...I was actually pretty shocked at that line. Claire as always, always been the calm rational one, so for us to see her just completely unhinged and frantic was a real testament to how much this character has grown. She was a madwomen possessed, nothing was stopping her and I dont think I've ever been prouder of her in that moment. Again, another power hit by Caine.
And the last shout out would be a scene between Claire and Shane when he was explaining to Claire what his 'dreams' were about.
"Tell me her name," he said "Please tell me her name." ...What an amazing moment for Shane and Claire fans. After reading that scene, I kept envisioning that for our final ending. If it be 15 or 50, that ending, that's the moment where I want these books to end. I want Shane to have his everything and then and only then will I be able to let these books go with a heavy heart.

Basically I loved everything about this one. Fantastic energy, increbile writing and characters you would fight the death for. I also thought it left us with a perfect ending but now I'm all nervous again since I have no clue what the gang are in store for with this 'new and improved Morganville" Three books left and I have no idea what Caine is plotting in her evil genius mind, so yeah, I'm scared people!
November feels so.very.far.away!!

Another Morganville Win!!

Always More!!

First of all I would like to give you the honor of meeting my Myrnin. Yes, I know he doesn’t exactly look like Rachel Caine intended him to, but I don’t care. Deal with it. Now bathe in his awesomeness!

Mmmmmmmmm. He is perfect.

Anyways, if you managed to read this series completely, or close to it, you might as well call yourself a Morganville fan. If you are a Morganville fan, you surely know about the vampire heaven that is http://www.morganvillevampire.com/. I personally stalk the shit out of this website. The site has a whole bunch of goodies – short stories, news, MVTV!!! – good stuff. I want to show you guys some cool pictures for a bunch of characters.

Amelie and Oliver are PERFECT! Especially Oliver. Just look at that! Holy ballz!

Ada is meh, I can’t really form a proper image out of that sketch. And Myrnin… well, he is different. That is not how I imagine him. Well, my previous image is also not exactly how I imagine him either, but it’s pretty badass. I guess if you combine my image with the one Rachel Caine has on her website you’d get something better.

But anyways, apart for the unimportant stuff I’m dumping in this review, lemme talk a bit about the book and why I didn’t like it so much.

It was boring. Like really really boring. Boring start, then got a bit better, then boring again, then I lost interest and was counting down the pages till it finished. Black Dawn wasn’t as bad as Bite Club (you can read my rant here), I mean the story was pretty good. But, I repeat, it bored me. I also noticed that the book was almost 400 pages long. Wow. When compared to the previous MV books, this is a lot. And, if you remember me saying this in my previous reviews rants, the thing I love about MV is how short and fast-paced the books are. That’s why I could handle reading so many of them without getting bored. Black Dawn proved my point. The book is stuffed with extra info and extra POVs from various characters, some of them were completely unexpected (Hannah wtf?!), which added to the length of it. They also add extra drama which also bores the crap out of me.

And it was sooo painfully slooooow to read!! So unlike the previous MV books. Me has a sad.

I guess what I need is a break from the series. I’ve been reading it for the past few months now, and I guess I need to miss them a bit more in order to enjoy reading them again. I’ll probably resume reading them closer to the MV15 release, which is at the beginning of November if I recall correctly. I do hope I won’t end up dropping the series. That would be a shame.

The story in this one was exciting and kept my interest, but was not as good as it could have been.
The major problem I had with this book and the ONE reason the rating is so low is that they changed narrators.
I did try to find out why and it looks (not positive) like Cynthia Holloway may have died. I see no new work for her since 2014 anywhere that I can find, but also can't find anything that says she died.

As a result this book suffered. The new narrator didn't have the same flair with the voices and as a result she ruined some of my favourite characters voices.
Not very good at making clear distinctions in the voices used for various characters didn't help either.
I hope she does better on the next 3 books.

Haven’t you heard? Geeks run the world now…

Black Dawn was the perfect fix for my Morganville addiction. I wait for six to seven months for each release to finally hit the shelves and when they do, I’m one of the first in line to download my eBook and hide in my room for a couple of days. This is one of the few storylines where I don’t mind if they continue indefinitely. Typically, for most series I invest in, I’m usually eager to see the final conclusion approach, but with Morganville I actually dread it. I don’t want these books to end, and I hope Rachel Caine has a way of allowing them to continue indefinitely. I really do.

In this installment, the draug have invaded Morganville and taken over the town. This most feared enemy of the Morganville vampires move through the water and take form as they drag them down to a slow, awful death. The draug have been undefeated by the vampires for many centuries and when they attack Morganville causing the residents to evacuate the city, only a few stay behind to try and take their town back.

I feel it’s the Morganville cast that make this experience both exciting and fulfilling. You have four Glass House residents that have forged a strong bond and unbreakable friendship no matter the circumstance. There’s no annoying love triangles, aside from the ones I image , but rather genuine relationships between Claire, Nekkid Shane, Michael and Eve. And despite how consistent they are from book to book, you can still detect the subtle changes and growth in their character.

In Black Dawn, it was interesting to see how Claire has become more confident and courageous mostly out of necessity and circumstance as we witness Eve and Michael’s struggle from the aftermath of the events that took place in the previous book. Eve becomes a bit steadier and more pensive, not has hard around the edges as before. Michael is struggling with his change more than ever before, more hesitant around Eve due to the attack. And finally, we see Shane’s aggression come to a halt when the draug strip him of his reality and make him question what is truly within his grasp and what he’s on the verge of losing. These four characters are put through a pressure cooker of emotional challenges and through it all, they stand by one another in the most heartfelt show of friendship and commitment to one another.

As with all of the other installments, I read this too quickly and now the wait for the next book will only be that much longer… ~sigh~ I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Glass House residents. Truly can’t get enough of this series. Pure awesome!

Shane Quote:
"Score," he said, and raised the crowbar in triumph. "Who's your daddy?"

What Morganville Vampires book isn't amazing? I can't wait for this.

~Edit 2012 September~

I've always liked Morganville as I've stated above. I expected a lot from this book--maybe too much. For starters, I got the book, read the first chapter, and let it sit in a corner for weeks. It didn't interest me, in fact, it bored me. When I finally decided to pick it up again I had to tell myself "it will get better. Just keep reading and finish it." It didn't. I found the constant shift in prospective annoying and confusing (although I do applaud Caine for her ability to write a novel from multiple points of view.)

Claire...I don't even need to say anything. I've never really liked her. I think she still needs to grow up more. She's childish at times. I couldn't stand it when she kept badgering Shane to tell her what happened after they freed him from the draug. Of course she wanted to know, but for the time being she should have taken a step back and realized Shane needs time. Michael, who himself had been taken by the draug, even told her to lay off, but she didn't. Sure, eventually Shane told her, and it helped him, but Claire's way of getting it out of him... I somehow tolerate Claire, and I really don't know how.

I honestly was not too impressed with Black Dawn. Hopefully the next Morganville will be better.

The Morganville Vampires

Black Dawn

Rachel Caine

Book twelve…

So the Draug have taken over the town except for the Founders Square. Where everyone is holed up.

Eve is scared of Michael since he bit her.

Amelie is slowly turning into a Master Draug.

Myrnin has made a load of weapons that can slow down a Draug but not kill.

Claire, Shane and Naomi (a vampire they saved from the pool,) go out looking for the vamp Doctor and his friend.

Eve goes out with a load of other Vampires to drop weapons of in places.

Jason is back and is helping make weapons.

Maranda (?) a young girl that keeps popping up who can tell the future is about (Eve's and now Claire's friend.)

Myrnin finds out that the Draug are hiding out in the sewage plant, so of course they have to go there to cut off the water.

Shane gets caught by the Draug at the sewage plant, and dreams about a happy future with Claire.

Claire demands that they go back, they do in the end and save him.

Shane is having trouble deciding what is real.

Claire and Myrnin are trying to find a way to destroy the Draug, but Shane comes up with an idea.

They go to Morganville High School, to get cleaning power that soaks up water.

They get trapped in a shed with sprinklers going outside full of Draug.

Richard Morell (mayor) and Hannah Mosses (sheriff) - both main ish characters - turn up, and take them back; but Magnus main Master Draug turns up and Kills Richard Morell.

Stuff happens, people mainly Naomi wants to kill I'll Amelie and become Queen.

Hannah and Myrnin kidnapp Claire to use as bait for Magnus.

Magnus comes, and so does the others including Maranda (?) who he kills. She becomes the new house ghost.

Amelie tries to kill Oliver but is stopped by Claire, letting Amelie take control over the Draug, killing Magnus and the Draug she was becoming. She then tries to drink Claire's blood, but Jason stops her and demands that she use him, and turn him.

Eve and Michael gets married without Amelie permission (dunno if it is official or not.) Things are going to get weird.

Fast paced with lots of action

I like this storyline with the draug, finally something the vampires are afraid of and put them on the run. They are always the ones hunting humans and I liked seeing them on the defensive. It was cool getting several points of view in this and I really liked seeing Eve be a fighter and hold her own. She annoys me a lot so having her buck up and be her true self was nice. Spoiler, now that the draug storyline is over, I wonder what's next for the series? It's getting too long and I'm looking forward to seeing it all end and what that looks like.

Morganville is still under siege by the Draug. Amelie is severely wounded, creating a power vacuum at the worst time. Claire and her friends must find a way to help her, and defeat the Draug, and survive the process. Shane seems to be the focus of bad things in this plot, giving Claire a short break.

I was a little bored there for a while but the ending was exciting, although short-lived. My enthusiasm for the series is starting to dwindle again, but I keep thinking that I only have a few more books to go, so why not just finish. It sounds like we will be back to a similar plotline as book 4, just with a different face. I hope there will a few twists to make it interesting. I think the only thing driving me at this point is that I want to know how things end for Claire - Does she end up a vampire? Does she leave and go to MIT? Does she end up powering Mernan's computer? Do she and Shane end up running the town in the end? Only a few more books to find out.

Really kind of indifferent to this one. I think the author should have ended with 12 books as was originally intended. If that was the case this would have been the final book and I think there would have been more finality to it. Instead there will be at least 3 more books. This one seemed more forced and repetitive; filler as the author figured out how she was going to further stretch this story. It is also the first in the series that I can remember to be a continuation (as in the very next day) of the one before it.

Normally I like the characters. But in this one they annoyed me. Shane and Claire were cute at first. Now I'm just sick of them and wish they'd break up. Eve and Michael are almost to that point for me too. I still love Myrnin, but there was not enough of him in this one for me. Richard dying, especially the way he did, made me sad. He was a character that deserved better.

I was also not a fan of how the chapters were written. They went back and forth between different character's perspectives. If I remember correctly, the first few books were from Claire's POV only. Then we started getting Shane, Michael, and Eve. Eventually Amelie and Oliver were in there sometimes too. Along with all of them we got one from Naomi and Hannah too. That's just too many for my liking. As far as I can recall, the one character who I'd actually be interested in knowing what his crazy mind was thinking has never gotten to share his POV.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous for these characters to be getting married as teenagers. So the ending of this book was not satisfying to me in the least. Shane dreaming of being married and a father weirded me out too. I think the series as a whole is too fast paced. The things that have gone on in these 12 book took place in the matter of a little under 2 years. It feels more like it should have been 5 years by now. I'm 12 books in so of course I'll finish the series, but it's definitely dragging on and I am no where near as enthusiastic about reading it as I was in the beginning.

This book picks up right after Last Breath and the action never stops. This is book 12, but there were hints that Morganville is going to go through another restructuring and the humans aren't going to like it. I hope it doesn't regress back to the first book, because I'd hate to read 12 books only to find out the trust and freedoms Claire and her friends have earned are all taken away. If Amelie and Oliver don't see just how vital Claire and the others are to the survival of the town, I'll be very unhappy (yes, I know the vamps are protrayed as self preservationists sp? - but after all Claire's done for the town - Amelie and Oliver would have to be very stupid to think this and they're not stupid characters.) If the story does go that way, I hope Claire et. al. don't accept it and they run away or do something.

Overall I liked this book better than Last Breath as there was no cheating of logic and the characters stayed consistent. I'm getting used to reading from the other's POV, but something still seems a bit...off with them.

I'm wondering just how many books Rachel has planned for this series - does anyone know?

(RabidReads.com) I have been in a bit of a book slump when it comes to paranormal books lately and I really needed to get over it. The best thing I could think of to do was to go back to a tried and true series and that’s exactly what I did. I can’t believe it’s been almost two years since I last visited Morganville and I was more than ready to jump back in. Happily, it was an excellent decision.

Morganville Texas is the home to a large group of vampires and the human’s that substain them. Pretty scary concept huh? The town also boasts a college that does not sustain the vampires and Claire started her college life there at the tender age of sixteen. Now almost eighteen, she’s survived way more than her share of murder, mayhem, and downright scary stuff. She’s been through the wringer and still keeps fighting. Claire lives with her three roommates off-campus-big mistake on her part number one-and beginning with this book, they are now staying at the vampire stronghold while the rest of the town suffers at the hands of the only real enemy of the vampires, the Draug. Draugs are water based creatures, meaning not only do they live in water, they are also made up of a hideous watery concoction. They can live off human blood, but it’s vampire blood that they crave. In Last Breath, the previous book, something bad happens to Amelie(the vampire queen)and everyone is still reeling from that. Eve and her fiance, Michael(also a vampire)are having a rough time due to previous events. Claire and Shane are still in love and working hard along with the vampires to dispel the threat of the draug.

Pretty early on, I fell completely in love with the main characters of Claire, Shane, Michael, and Eve. That has never changed from one book to the next. They are all roommates, best of friends, and now are two couples. I’ve loved following their romances and all the problems that are bound to happen in a town full of vampires. A town that no one can escape from. Side characters of Amelie and Oliver, as the two top vampires, were well fleshed out, and while I dislike Oliver, I do care about Amelie, at least a little. As the queen, she rules all the vampires and is ultimately responsible for all of Morganville’s inhabitants. She was also Claire’s benefactor for a lot of the books. That, however, doesn’t mean that Amelie is nice. She’s very ancient and most are afraid of her, but Claire is never shy about standing up to her. But then, Claire is feisty as the day is long. Being a science prodigy doesn’t hurt either. So many other characters are important to the story as well. Most of them feel like people I know by now, twelve books in.

The last book, this book, and presumably the next book, are all continuing story lines. And that’s because the draug threat is major and not something that could be handled in one book. But if you start this series, it’s not like that in all the books. Because of these continuing story lines, I really don’t want to tell that much about what happens, so I won’t.

I recommend that you start with book one, Glass House. If you are like me, you will be hooked pretty much immediately. Rachel Caine has an amazing imagination and it certainly shows in her books. Her writing is very intricately plotted, detailed, and paced, making reading them in order a must. Her world building, and characterizations are nothing short of fantastic. These started out as young adult, but fairly quickly became closer to new adult, but nothing explicit. Highly recommended to ages 16 plus. As far as my reading slump goes, I’ve already bought the next one on audio.

So the Draug - interesting creatures. They are like Vampire's are to Human's. They feed off Vampire's like Vampire's feed on Humans. I feel so bad for Eve. Poor girl was almost drained by Michael now she is scared of him. Makes me feel bad for him too but at the same time I understand where her fear is coming from :( With Eve pulling away Michael is questioning them as well - which is very sad to me considering how cute of a couple those two are :(

I still haven't quite figured out why Shane has to be so jealous of Myrnin. Claire is with Shane she is not one to stray especially with the crazy guy! I really do like to see more of Shane's perspective on it though - sometimes he is hard to read.

"Morganville, Texas, isn't like other towns. Oh, it's small, dusty, and ordinary in most ways, but the thing is, there are these Vampires...They own the town. They run it. And until now they've been the unquestioned  ruling class. "

That is until the Draug showed up.

There's a reason why after reading Twelve books in this series I'm still obsessed with it! Rachel Caine has one of the most vivid imaginations out there in the fantasy writing world. Her imagination never ceases to amaze me, how her stories just more complex and amazing with each book.

Black Dawn picks up immediately where Last Breath leaves us with the Draug, planning to destroy the Vampire and take over Morganville. Even with the vampires ruling under a ruthless strict policy, it appears to be a blissful dream compared to what the Draug have in store for the citizens of Morganville, Texas. Unfortunately Vampire Amelie the Ruler of Morganville is powerless against the Draug with her injury she sustained in Last Breath, and with that the future of the town is left to he residents of the Glass House; Claire, Shane, Michael, Eve, and of course with the help of my favorite Insane Vampire Myrnin. Claire continues to get more BadAss with each book and her best friends are such outstanding supporting characters I've grown to love and without them The Morganville Vampire series wouldn't be the same.

If you haven't had the pleasure to read The Morganville Vampires then I suggest you do because Rachel Caine is a genius at world building and even though this book is not left on a cliffhanger, she still manages to set us readers up for another action packed, adventure with an even darker path than its predecessor.

"You go on, take care of your sister. I'll be fine."

He closed his eyes for a second. "No," he said. "If you go, I go, too. I'm coming. Monica, just get inside and stay there."
"No way. I'm not letting you run off to get killed somewhere without me, jackass."

"Shut up" Eve said flatly. "We have zero time for you and your bullshit dramatics." "Or what, you'll bleed on me,  Emo Princess of Freakdomonia?"

Claire stepped forward and got Monica's attention. She didn't know how she looked, but Monica seemed to shift a little, as if she was considering taking a step back. "Fine. You come with us." At the very least, Monica was a rabbit to throw to the wolves, and she wouldn't hesitate to do it if it was the difference between life and death for Shane. "If you get in my way, I'll kill you."

My one and only gripe is that I want more Myrnin scenes lots of them, and unfortunately I'm greedy so there's never enough. But I can say that Myrnin fans will love him in Black Dawn. Even with the death of a beloved character I would still say this is one of Rachel Caine's best and I'll be impatiently patiently waiting for Bitter Blood. If you're a fan of dark, gritty, series with vampires, and a Kick-Ass heroine then I suggest you read The Morganville Vampires, it's a favorite of mine and there's a reason why it's on the New York Times best selling list!! An easy 5 stars! It was unbelievably exciting I couldn't put it down. Once again Rachel Caine continues to be an auto-buy author of mine.

The Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine is one of the most exciting, most inventive, and most consistently surprising YA series ever. Though I did have some issues with this latest installment, I can honestly say that even after twelve books, I hope the series never ends.

As with the previous two books in The Morganville Vampires series, BLACK DAWN isn’t told exclusively from Claire’s point of view. Half the book is Claire’s, but the other half is told from the POVs of Shane, Michael, Eve, Oliver, Hannah, and possibly a few others that I’m forgetting. However, unlike the previous two books, I don’t think the additional POVs strengthened the story. Most of them felt unnecessary (like Eve’s chapters), and the others just contributed to the somewhat chaotic feel that BLACK DAWN had.

In addition to too many POVs, the overall pace of BLACK DAWN is relentless, and unfortunately, that is not a compliment. The whole book is one long climax, like the downward rush of a rollercoaster but without the gradually building anticipation of the rise up or the break before the next climb. I really missed the casual interaction and playful moments between Claire and her friends. It was one attack/rescue/suicide mission after the next. Really I think this whole book should have been condensed to a handful of chapters and included in LAST BREATH since BLACK DAWN is really a continuation of the plot established in the previous book.

The real saving grace with BLACK DAWN was the ending. It was excellent in the way I’ve come to expect from this series. Caine isn’t afraid to do terrible things to her characters and kill them off when necessary. The last several chapters were gripping and tragic and pivotal for the future of Morganville. I can’t say I’m going to miss the storyline involving the draug, but I’m am crazy excited by the direction they have forced the series into. So many delicious and scary possibilities have opened up and I can’t wait to see what happens next in BITTER BLOOD on November 6, 2012.

So it has been a while since I've delved into the Morganville Vampires world. I forgot how much I love it. Claire, Shane, Eve, and Micheal are such badass. Always trying to make the right decision even if it's more dangerous to themselves. This book was seriously crazy and was almost never a boring moment. And that cliff-hanger ending? Wow. I'm thinking that things are just going to get crazier for Morganville.

How I choose my rating:
1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much.
2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end.
3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I'll probably finish the series if it is a part of one.
4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will finish the series if part of one.
5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will finish the series if it's part of one.

SUMMARY (50 words or less)
This installment was good, but it was predictable. I saw all the twist and turns and predicted a few for the next book. Even with that said, I still enjoyed the read.

Audio Review
Angela Dawes took over the narration. And while she did a good job, it took a little bit to get used to. Especially the voice of Myrin.

Keeping my original rating since this was pretty interesting but also dragged on a liiiittle too much. There's also a lot of going back to how things were before Magnus despite the changes Amelie agreed to make on Morganville and that's d u m b.

Ok Jordan.

for the 65% of this book i couldnt get enough, but i ended up putting it down cause it was 5 in the morning and i need some sleep. it was a couple of days before i continued, im not sure why but i didnt enjoy the end of the book as much as i did the rest... i think i might of given this book 5 stars if i didnt have that break.
but because i did enjoy this book so much throughout most of it i thought 4 stars was a pretty decent rating.

Black Dawn came from multiple POV's - i loved most of these except i wasnt big on a few, i was a bit iffy on the males, especially Oliver's but then no one really knows whats going on in his head.

claire and eve kicked some major ass in this book! not literally (but i suppose they did that too with the help of some shot guns) they put the snack down on a few people, i was like WOO! Go Girls! Go Girls! ;P when claire went up against oliver, telling him off i thought she was so bad-ass lol.
though i did think claire was pretty dumb for being surprised when

im thinking the new morganville is not going to be a human friendly place... even worse than what it was, i have no clue why... if anything the vampires should be damn happy that some of the humans stuck around and saved their behind's otherwise they'd be all dead by now... but no because they won there ego has sky-rocket and they think there the shit now.

i was surprised more people didnt die at the end, im glad they didnt but im kinda let down as well O.o
Miranda is going to be very interesting in the next book, i bet she's going to drive the glass house nuts! especially shane :D cant wait!

and finally i just wanted to thank Joan for being awesome and buddy reading Black Dawn with me, i had lots of fun! ^.^
and thanks for helping me get my hands on this book! i look forward to our next buddy read.

I have never read a series with this many books and had each one of them be 4 and 5 stars! Any paranormal fan is going to want to read these books!

Black Dawn takes place right after the last book. And not only do the humans who are left in Morganville have to worry about the vampires they also have the vampires enemies to worry about too, the Draug. The vamps and humans seem to come together to try and defeat them but its a temporary truce. This book is just non stop action and you really have no idea where they are going. There was some heart breaking moments, some unexpected friends, and most of the book had you on the edge of your seat in anticipation.

This book was so addicting that I had Amber R reading it to me while we drove to Chicago for the RT book signing.lol I had to know what was going to happen. There were a few chapters where I was yelling at the book. I needed to know it was going to be okay. Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve are just an amazing set of friends together. There was a lot of touching moments that had me tearing up. Plus they are just really funny too. And Shane, oh Shane had me totally tearing up!

There is just so much going on you are going to need to read this book asap! I have no idea what Rachel Caine has in store for us but after reading the last chapter you find out that Morganville is about to change in a very drastic way. What exactly that is going to mean for the humans, well I guess we are all going to have to wait and see.

Morganville Vampire series is one of my most favorite YA series ever!! And that is not something I would say lightly. So if you haven't yet please do yourself a favor and go check it out!

Oh I almost forgot did I mention Shane had a flame thrower?? Um yes he did and it was extremely HOT!

Right out the door, vivid and action-packed from one moment to the next. Enemies became allies as Morganville faced its thirteenth hour. This late in the series, it's mind-blowing how much story there is in Morganville. Caine has said multiple times that Morganville will never really end and always have a new tale around every corner and I really believe her. She has such a way of combining the heart-racing action with the rolling emotions and deadly times of being in the wrong place at any given time. Typically, the vampire story has been told over and over and over, but never like this, and I stand by that so hard, even now as this is my third read.
The latest big bad, a draug named Magnus made me so nervous. It was a watery apocalypse for Morganville because of this thing. He's one of my utmost favorite villains because the guy really got me thinking this was the end for Morganville. Bleak, yet fun and dangerous and breathtaking. Another book I loved in this series.

Could this series get any more exciting? This by far is the best in the series. Full of action though out the book, lots of twists and turns that will keep you wanting more and wondering what is going to happen next. You even get to the point where you are questioning a lot of the characters and their in-tensions towards Morganville itself. There are a few deaths along the way, and the four main characters are never far from danger, as always the main ones for that is Claire and Shane but what can you expect from the two of them lol they wouldn't be Shane and Claire without a little trouble. Have to admit it got a little confusing with the changing of points of view, which was a lot more in this book then in Bite Club and Last breath, but I also enjoyed it at the same time as it gave you a closer look into the other characters and their feelings and it gave you a better feeling as to what else was going on with the Morganville navies and their fight against the Draug. Also Magnus is one creepy dude, you never know wheh his going to show up in the now watery town of Morganville.

“Who's your daddy?'
Myrnin stared at him as if he'd gone completely mental. 'Excuse me?”

That is how I feel while reading this series right now. Everything just seems so freaking repetitive and super boring. I usually find myself trying to motivate me somehow to read and finish these books. I get that there were some funny lines but that wont help the book much. The characters just seemed to really annoy me. Shane never takes anything seriously ever. Michael just broods a whole bunch. Claire just annoys the shit out of me a lot.. basically just by being there. I don't really have any complaints about Eve but I'm also not going to base my review or my dislike/like on these books based on the one character I don't have a problem with. I'm just glad I'm basically down with this series. I can't wait to finish my reviews so I can move onto better books.
