3.5 - 4 stars: State of Mine - Cari Z Possessed - Sue Brown Lover of the Hand of Heaven - Lauren P. Burka
2.5 - 3 stars for the rest
They weren't bad really, there just wasn't a lot of filling to some of them and to be perfectly honest from the blurb and then the foreword I was really expecting something with a...darker? tone. I guess what I mean is that the point of the anthology is all about possessive supernatural lovers and there just wasn't a whole lot of possessiveness going on. I wanted words and actions that showed that claiming and only two of those really gave that to me. Possessed (Sue Brown), being the first and the one I liked best.
There are two stories that do have a darker tone but they read more like horror to me. The Hand that Feeds - Gabriel West really seemed fairly dark and I spent a lot of my time sort of confused and not liking any of the characters, though at the end things were cleared up for the most part and I retroactively liked the characters then. It is also the second story where I could feel the possessive vibe, but it just wasn't my kind of story. Mediocre Art - Julia Talbot was super short and had a creepy stalker vibe and my brain was making up it's own epilogue for it that contained a news clipping about an artist's body found completely exsanguinated. *blink*
I have only read State of Mine by Cari Z. so far so I rate it a 3. I thought it was a good story but it lacked adequate backround detail so I did not fall into it. I thought the love story was rushed and I did not see how they fell in love at all. I gave it a middle of the road since some of it entertained me.
I tried to read Leeches and Layabouts by JL Merrow and could not finish it. I would give it a minus number of -1
Overall at this time is a 2.
I still need to read: The Highwayman of Colby Heath by Kate Roman The Devil Went Down to Swindon by Josephine Myles Lover of the Hand of Heaven by Lauren P. Burka The Dragon and his Knight by M. Raiya Possessed by Sue Brown The Hand that Feeds by Gabriel West Impasto by Lydia Nyx Mediocre Art by Julia Talbot

Don't own because now out of print. However, JL Merrow's Leeches and Layabouts is now available in the anthology Boys who go Bump in the Night. I don't know about any of the other stories but I'd be interested to read Jo Myles, Sue Brown and Julia Talbot's if they are available elsewhere.
