Oh god. This short story wasn't very good. I felt that there was too much going to to be covered in such a small amount of space.
In addition, the author tries to do that mystery thing where they don't release the full details from the beginning when the story is being set up. You probably know what I'm talking about, when an author has the reader come in in the middle of a conversation and over the first few chapters the plot and relevant background info slowly seeps out. Sometimes that hooks me, but here it is just confusing. I'm not sure if that was because this was book #8 and the rest of the series addressed the issues or if it's because the story was poorly set up.
I also didn't believe the romance between the two characters. I just didn't feel the longing, I wasn't surprised by the ending.
Overall, I was just completely unimpressed.

I am slow... nocturne bites = shorter stories - bites, not full meals... I'm rolling my eyes at myself...
So Draicon Werewolves - they have magik... and Guardians are some who have died, who have accepted rebirth as guardians to protect mankind and defeat supernatural bad beings...
Michael is one such werewolf turned guardian - and he is a bit confused... he lost his family to a demon... and moved next door to Sabrina's family, and Sabrina 'took' him in, giving him a reason to live - and on her 18th birthday, as he is recognizing that he feels mated to her, the demon returns - and in fighting him, to protect Sabrina, he dies, and is resurrected as a guardian - his choice, as he buried his mating love for Sabrina, but returned to watch over her the only way open to him... and he buried a sexual love, as guardians cannot have a long term liason...
and Sabrina has to face her own demon - literally - a demon has killed her family, and though Michael does his best to protect her (and gest punished for it), and Michael knows she will die she must find the strength to face the demon. She defeats the demon, but the demon hits her with a mortal wound. Michael can heal her for a night before she must make the decision to go to the next plain and be with her family or to become a guardian, and Sabrina declares they will not waste this night, and they make love over and over again...
and she is gone in the morning, and Michael is punished / chained for a month, and then the head guardian pushes him to confront his true mating feelings for Sabrina... and sends him out for a year...
A year later, at Sabrina's grandparent's anniversary, Michael shows up j- and Sabrina is there, and the boss tells them they are paired together, for mentoring and teaming - for at least the next 500 years... and Sabrina teleports them to the hotel, and you know....

Within the Draicon universe, Michael is a phoenix Justice guardian. Apparently he was once a Draicon but then died and was reborn as a Justice Guardian, tasked with looking after certain people and killing and punishing criminals. His childhood friend is Sabrina, whom he died to protect and has doen everything he could to protect since. But he's forbidden from touching her, as much as he'd like to, because he's her guardian. Sabrina has little memory of how her parents died, but she knows they were killed by a demon. One that she must face again, but she has no courage and Michael is forbidden to help her.
This sort of opened up a whole new facet of the Draicon series, with the Phoenix Justice Guardians, which I think is its own series. This is more related to that one, because there are no morphs. This also felt a little bit corny and I kept trying to figure out why the Demon was even after her in the first place... The characters were nice and interesting, even if they weren't that well fleshed out, it being a novella and all.

This was definitely one of the best of the Nocturne Bites I have read so far. Very fleshed out and intriguing to follow these characters into the regular Nocturne books. I'm not usually a werewolf fan but I enjoyed it.

Cute - short -- but a hell of a lot better than the rest of her novels so far. I can officially say I'm impressed with this novel. Just wished it was longer. What a twist too.
