⭐⭐ A Short Ending for Young Readers

The Final Battle covers only the final portion of The Phantom Menace, and it does so extremely quickly. The pacing is fast to the point of brevity, and major events from the Battle of Naboo are heavily simplified. Much of the material repeats what is already familiar from the film, with little room for tension or buildup. The book can be finished in moments, and it feels more like a summary than a full story.

As a reading experience, it is limited but functional. The focus remains on Anakin, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, with everything else stripped down to the basics. Heroism is presented in a very simple and direct way, without nuance or emotional weight. While this is far too short to satisfy older readers, it works for young children who want a quick and accessible version of the film’s conclusion.

Not worth reading unless you absolutely need to read every Star Wars book ever written. Another poorly told section of Episode I.

OK, one review to rule them all. There's no way I'm going to review each individual book, ain't nobody got time for that.
This series is aimed for kids, hardcore fans who want to flesh out some minor characters from Episode 1, get a little bit more of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, or for Jar Jar Binks. In fact, this series might have the most lore of Gungans in general (more on the Gungan lore in a minute). Actually, why not start with the Gungans. Binks aside, the Gungans as a people, have always intrigued me. Particularly their technology. Though we don't get the answer to the only question that matters regarding Gungans (can their personal energy shields block a lightsaber strike?), we get as much of their culture that's ever going to be published. There's lots of parallels to real peoples from Earth. Obviously, they speak with a Caribbean accent mixed with their own vocabulary, even including some Spanish words. Yes, you have to read like they speak and it didn't annoy me too often. Also, they have this festival, the Big Nasty Free For All, that is so very similar to the Naadam Festival in Mongolia. They ride bongos like Mongolians ride horses, there's a brawl that reflects Naadams wrestling contest, ect.
A side note, Queen Amidala's make up and wardrobe was influenced by Mongolian fashion as well.
Honestly, I didn't get much else out of this series. The background on Kitster was interesting but Kitster himself is background. The use of Ghostlings from another EU book was something. The whole series is a bit forgettable and the last 3 books are just simplifications of Episode 1 with an extra sentence here and there that where probably spoken off camera. If you're reading the Star Wars timeline and this is next for you chronologically, good luck pushing through this.

Overall this was a reasonable finale. The closing books of this series had been quite poor but this varied the format a bit and it was much better for it. The events were more compressed and that made it more action packed even though it once again was missing both character development and any new depths within the story.

Yet another rewrite of the final battle of Naboo for the younger readers. The original novelization is fine for this age group for both reading level and content.
