I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the book! I can tell already that it'll be my Book of the Year, and I really wish the sequel would be out a little(a lot) sooner! This book was what I've been looking for in a very long time, and I'll have to look long and hard to find something that'll satisfy my addiction until the sequel comes out. One question: will we come back to Cairo? I miss it already!

This is a question I love asking all my favorite authors (and though yours isn't out quite yet I have a really good feeling that it'll be a new fave of mine): How do you go about the Naming Of Things™ in your stories? Specifically with characters, because that's always the part that trips me up when I attempt to write.

That being said, I can easily fall through the research hole with this, so I'll often use placeholder names if I know I want to pick something good later. For The City of Brass, my MCs names were a mix of this. "Nahri" is a nickname calling back to the character's origins (nahr is river in Arabic), I named my hero "Ali" after another Muslim hero, and Dara...well I just always liked the sound of it!
