Author Bio – C. A. Powell

C. A. Powell writes speculative fiction rooted in late-Victorian and Edwardian Britain. His work includes a series of science-fiction pastiches set in an alternative 1898, exploring the aftermath of the Martian invasion described in H. G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds.

Drawing on the language and atmosphere of the period, these novels examine suppressed histories, scientific unease, and the lingering consequences of events that official records prefer to forget.

I would have liked to give this 3 and a half, but there is no allowance for that. I would not go to four for one reason. The first chapter.

This was a very enjoyable story set between 1814 to 1815. The reader sees a backdrop of historical development

Finishing the Carmilla Novella

I finished the Carmilla novella yesterday — and I must say, it was very good indeed. Once again, I can clearly see how Bram Stoker may have drawn influence from this story when later writing Dracula.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dracula — gothic horror and sci-fi fantasy are very much my cup of tea. If I had one small nit-pick, it would be the ending.

Many film adaptations give the Count a more dramatic final showdown. In the novel, the team all seem to
