would you like a free preview copy?

Would you like a free kindle copy of the second book in my trilogy, Women of Verdun? Then why not become a Beta Reader for me. (That’s just another name for proofreader in the world of writing.)

Ever since the weather turned a little cooler and showers keep me away from my garden, I have managed to complete the second book of my trilogy, Women of Verdun, Belle's Girls. I’m not ready to publish yet. The manuscript still needs lots of editing.

Do you think you have the ability to help with the proofreading of this work? You’d need to know a little about grammar and spelling and also have the ability to spot flaws in the flow of the story. For example, did I kill off a character in chapter 2 and then reintroduce him in chapter 8? You get the idea?

If you’d like to help, please message me for details of how to get your free copy.

Happy reading

Looking for advice from eBook readers, please.

I’m looking for some advice from readers, please.

My next novel is almost ready, but it is a very long one, and will be around 500 to 600 pages in total. I’m thinking about pricing such a large eBook in the £2.99 to £3.99 bracket.

I’m also considering breaking it down into a series of 4 smaller novelettes, each one leading to the next, of around 100 to 150 pages each. Pricing for each would be around £0.99, but if I go down this route, I’ll try to get the first one permanently free, so you’d still be paying £2.99 to £3.99 in total.

My question is in three parts:-

Firstly, how much do you normally pay for an eBook and what would be your upper limit?

Secondly, would you rather pay more and have the novel in one chunk, or pay in instalments for the shorter, serial read?

Thirdly, would you feel cheated if you bought a novel for 0.99 and then found it was only 100 pages long?

I’d love to hear your views on this.
Happy reading

Grab a bargain, kindle book sale all through May

If you like a bargain, you’ll like my long term sale on Amazon. Starting today, almost all my books are £0.99, or $0.99 USA, for at least the whole month of May.

As you know, I love to write, but I intensely dislike the time I have to put aside to market my books. However, today I made myself work on just that subject, and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be. I’m hoping the results will prove my time well spent.

I’m trying something new. Following advice from fellow authors, I dug deep into the search engine of Amazon and discovered a few tricks of the trade to lift my gems from obscurity into the public eye. I won’t bore you with the details, but I changed categories, tweaked keywords, examined algorithms – I know, I don’t understand them either! Then I waved my magic wand, bit my lip and lowered the prices.

Grab a bargain, I don’t know how long I can hold my nerve while I wait for the graph to start rising, but I promise the prices will remain until May is over.

Happy reading.

Free eBook, try something new

To tempt my loyal romance readers to try a different genre, I'm offering one of my titles FREE from 6th to 10th April in all Amazon stores.

Book one of the two part sci-fi series, They Take our Children, The Truth Revealed is a story of alien abduction, but involves real people from a normal family who experience some extraordinary events.

If you liked Close Encounters and ET, this is similar in style, but the aliens are darker, and don't have a friendly agenda. Is this one for you?

Try it, what have you got to lose? If you are tempted, please let me know what you think.

Inspiration strikes

I'm clearing my home of forty years of hoarding unnecessary memorabilia and making ready to move house, but found some real gems among the rubbish. Like most people, when my grandparents and parents died, I kept their boxes of treasured nick-knacks because I couldn't part with the precious items that they thought were important enough to save.

In dusty boxes hidden in the back of my loft I re-discovered old diaries, photographs, fading theater tickets, ration books, identity papers and love letters from the war years. They add up to a real treasure trove of facts, dates, events and memories. I spent hours sifting through this fascinating find.

I now have enough material to write a dozen more novels set in the time period of the war. The memorabilia will help me paint the backdrops and fill out some characters and events, but my imagination will give me the flow of the story that can slip into this historical canvas.

I'm already working on my next family saga. This one will cover almost a hundred years of family intrigue and secrets, and will certainly shake a few skeletons hiding in the cupboards. Watch this space.

Kindle countdown deal

My book sales do well in UK, not surprising as I am a UK author and my novels are set in the land I am familiar with - Great Britain. (With the exception of It's Penguin Shooting Day, which is a true story set in Australia.)

To tempt more readers from the USA to try my work, I have put a number of my books into the Kindle countdown deal starting 3rd / 4th / 5th September until around the 10th / 11th / 12th of September.

The earlier you order, the cheaper they will be. Hope you enjoy the change of scenery.

Ella's Destiny available for PRE-ORDER

My latest eBook novel is now available for pre-order at all amazon stores. Release date is 30th September 2014, and this will also be available in paperback by early October.

I've placed a romance adventure, in a post apocalyptic setting, added a small twist of sci-fi, and a touch of time travel. This family romance is spiced with drama. Back to the Future meets The Clan of the Cave Bear as the backdrop to a traditional roller-coaster family saga of love and intrigue, hardships and joy. Follow Ella's story as she nervously learns to survive in a strange new world and grows in confidence to embrace her destiny.

The description

War is imminent when Ella Stevens applies to join the Eden Venture in the hope of saving her teenage children and salvaging her failing marriage. Amid riots and unrest the family travel to their designated camp where they prepare for a future beyond anything they could have imagined.

During a perilous journey through space and time, Ella realises her marriage can not be saved, but is determined to fulfil her dream of finding a better future for her children. Arriving at the fresh new world, filled with hope and endless opportunity, Ella begins to build a life without her husband. However, the settlers soon discover that Eden is not the paradise they hoped it would be.

With no escape from the hostile and dangerous environment, survival becomes a priority. Ella embraces the challenges of her life with a new-found courage and moves into a future that no one could have predicted.

New book published

At last, my new Second World War romantic saga is published.

At twenty-four-years old, Agnes felt she was headed for a spinster’s life. Being taller than most lads was a disadvantage, but she didn’t mind being the wallflower while her petite and pretty cousin drew men like a moth to a flame.

When Agnes fell for a tall Irishman’s charm, she thought she had found the love of her life. When Andrew asks Agnes to marry him, she has no idea where his proposal will lead them. Her Catholic father would not permit a Protestant son-in-law and he refused to listen to their pleading.

The young couple continue to meet in secret, but when Andrew decides to talk to Agnes’s father and try and win him around, none of them could have anticipated the outcome, or the repercussions of that fateful meeting.

War breaks out, giving a frightening and eventful backdrop to Agnes’s life of secrets and lies. She lives in fear of the truth emerging, to ruin the lives of her children, but eventually begins to feel that the truth may perhaps lead to her salvation.

Can she face up to her fears and disclose the secrets of her past?
