Five words from a woman he hasn’t seen in five years, and Scott Moore’s world is thrown off its axis. Ex-girlfriend Meredith has resurfaced with a past full of horrific abuse at the hands of a man who called himself a Dom, and she has the scars to prove it. Now she needs Scott’s help to reclaim her sexuality and put the past behind her.
Scott is more than willing to help, but he has no idea the toll it will take on him, not to mention his other polyamourous relationships. What’s more, while Scott and Meredith face down her demons, their own past won’t be forgotten. Neither will Scott’s feelings for Meredith…
I loved Scott in Light Switch. This book, I did not enjoy at all. It was a difficult read. It wasn't the fact that Meredith was one fucked up woman by her sadistic abusive ex-husband. It was more the fact that I felt that Scott was being used big time. He's the one that has to totally readjust his life to help her move on. This was painful to read about. There was no smexy scenes for me. The entire book was a turn off. I didn't want to have anything to do with Meredith. What she asked of Scott I thought was unfair and very demanding. I don't know how he survived it.
The writing itself is very good. Ms. Gallagher did an excellent job of contrasting a good and bad Dom. For this I give her high props. The characters were well fleshed out. I just didn't care for them as much. Scott wasn't the smexy sensual Scott for me. While I appreciated his caring and thoughtfulness, he came across more as scared stupid Scott. Total libido killer for me. This story's focus is really on reconstructing Meredith. It's not something I'm as interested in as I had thought. The sheer amount of psychological therapy involved in this story had me bored. I guess when it comes down to it; I'm not interested in reading about a fucked up person who is using BDSM to help reclaim her sexuality. I understand Ms. Gallagher did clearly explain that Meredith went to years of therapy to deal with her abuse and this was the next step. Still, it was not my cup of tea.
I made the mistake of reading this book first before reading Light Switch, the book that introduces Scott. Even though I understood the plot and grasped the character's histories, I felt I missed some crucial backstory information. For that reason, I highly suggest reading Light Switch first.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I did have issues with Scott's abundance of polyamorous and D/s relationships. I love polyamorous stories, but I prefer the individuals involved to be committed to only each other. Scott had two different polyamorous relationships. One with the two main characters, Matt and Kristen, from the first book Light Switch, and another with a married women (her marriage came first). Not to mention, the two subs he plays with on occasion. Why he needs these two additional subs is beyond me. The two women he's in a polyamorous relationships with are also his subs. He then agrees to help his ex-girlfriend, Meredith, heal from an abusive D/s relationship by becoming her Dom. Adding yet another women to the mix. He's trying to help her, I realize that, and still very much in love with her, but he has sex with her only hours after seeing her again. He never once thought about or considered his two committed relationships or if they would be okay with him having sex with yet another women. I thought a committed relationship meant you didn't sleep around, but that doesn't seem to apply to Scott. He gets his cake and eats it too. (I can't help but wonder if this issue isn't addressed in the first book and explains why his definition of commitment varies from mine)
Other than that, I really liked Scott's character. Really I did. He's a fantastic Dom and a sweet, caring, and passionate man. His love and devotion to Meredith was awe-inspiring (he loves Kristen and Amy, but not like he loves Meredith) and his willingness to sacrifice his own emotional well-being to help her brought tears to my eyes.
This book deals with major abuse issues and the author doesn't shy away from what happened to Merideth at the hands of her sadistic Dom/ex-husband. It was jarring and upsetting to read what her husband put her through. I had such admiration for Meredith's character by the end of this book. She really is a remarkable character.
Reconstructing Meredith isn't one of my favorite books, but the sweet ending and likable characters put a smile on my face and made the book worth reading.
Emotional due to the theme\scenario.I do like the H,but I need more ..With the frequency of Smut,I shouldn't be bored....but I think I am.Maybe its my mood.DNF for now at chapter 12
I love the way this started - picking up a few hands after the last book ended.
So way back when Scott and Meredith were Lovers - they actually lived together for two years. And then things didn’t work out and they drifted apart. And then one day, Meredith just went away.
It turns out it wasn’t by choice.
Meredith met a man who grabbed hold of her and never let her go. Locked her away in his dungeon and didn’t let her out until she was his slave. Until even when they went out in public he knew she would never say a word against him. When he hurt her, she accepted it. When he whipped her so bad she needed stitches he sewed her up. When he choked her so bad she couldn’t breathe she broke out a window and went to the neighbors for help and then begged them to help her repair the window.
He is in prison now and she is back. Meredith has reclaimed her life for the most part but there are still pieces she can’t fit together. She realized that the answer might be found by being a true submissive and she turns to the one person who might be able to help her. Scott was her lover, never her master, but perhaps he can suggest someone.
I liked Scott in the first book, but I thought he was living a bit too much in the moment. This time he really has to decide just what he really wants. It isn’t going to be easy and it really tests him and his relationships but he is determined to help Meredith reclaim herself.
If he can do that, perhaps they just might maybe reclaim each other.
“Scott, I need your help.” Five words from a woman he hasn’t seen in five years, and Scott Moore’s world is thrown off its axis. Ex-girlfriend Meredith has resurfaced with a past full of horrific abuse at the hands of a man who called himself a Dom, and she has the scars to prove it. Now she needs Scott’s help to reclaim her sexuality and put the past behind her. What’s more, while Scott and Meredith face down her demons, their own past won’t be forgotten. Neither will Scott’s feelings for Meredith…
Want to know what one man can do to destroy a woman? Ask Meredith....she knows what it feels like to be isolated from the world and then be abused by a sadistic arsehole. Do you want to know how to recover from that abuse? Ask Meredith...stronger than you think....A definite must read,it's intense, but well written
I bailed on page 99. I really wanted to like this after reading a few reviews from GR friends but I just couldn't get into the storyline and I feel nothing for Meredith.... I'm abandoning it for now; maybe it's my mood. I'll return to it later.
Author's Note: This book contains references to sexual, physical, and psychological abuse that some may find disturbing. Reconstructing Meredith by Lauren Gallagher, an audiobook narrated by D.C. Cole was a dark, intense romance. Technically it is not my type of book but I like to challenge myself. I found that reading/listening to books that are not psychological thrillers lets me look at things from a different perspective. Even though this looks like a book about sex and dominance the main storyline is about something else. It's about surviving abuse. It's about rebuilding yourself from scratch. It's about the trust. It's about acceptance. It's about healing! Meredith and Scott used to be partners until Meredith decided to move out. Years later Scott receives a call from Meredith, she is asking for help. Scott is ready to do anything for her but not in his darkest nightmares he can face things that Meredith went through over the years. Can Scott fix things that Meredith's husband tiered in pieces? Can Meredith trust another human being? What is the price for reclaiming your own life back?
I truly don't remember why this book landed on my TBR list, I believe there was a reason, and good for that as I actually enjoyed this book. This is one of the uncomfortable ones, one of the people doesn't talk too loud. At the same time I am always interested to understand things that I don't understand and the only way is to look at the situation from the inside!
Incredibly sexy, with a lot of polyamorus threads running through it, hot threesomes and the dark undertones of Meredith's past. Very well written, all in the male MC voice which worked well, and I have a new author to add to my favourite list
A Dom that everyone loves who's NOT a billionaire but a rather normal person even if the description is used loosely. Good story, lots of love and steam and multiple .... HEAs
My Review: This was a really powerful story. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to enjoy it because it's really serious stuff that this couple is dealing with, but I absolutely LOVED this book.
Everything about this book was different. Scott is a Dom who has a couple of girlfriends. They also have a couple of boyfriends each. Seven years ago, he dated Meredith and although their breakup was amicable, it was not what he wanted. He never got over her and has always wondered what happened when she completely dropped off the face of the earth five years ago.
At the time of their original relationship, they didn't participate in a Dom/sub relationship, but now Meredith has come to him for help. She's a sub, but her ex-husband who acted as her Dom horribly abused her and tortured her for 2 1/2 years. Now he's in jail and she's trying to recover the pieces of her shattered sexuality. She needs a Dom she can trust to not abuse her. Scott knows there's no one else he would trust in that relationship except himself. Meredith is shattered and it will take tons of patience to heal her.
The most amazing thing about this book is Scott's character. The entire book is told from his POV and it's incredibly moving. He's shattered by what's happened to Meredith. He attends her therapy sessions with her and is constantly fighting against becoming physically ill when she describes what she's withstood. For me, the intrigue of the book was whether or not HE was going to survive this relationship with Meredith. While she's healing, it's almost like he's taking on her pain himself. It's all so incredibly personal to him because he loves her. Really emotional.
The book is also incredibly erotic. This book is entirely about the sex and usually that becomes redundant in a full length novel. That is not the case with this book. It's really, really fabulously done.
This story line was riveting. The sex was hot. The characters were amazing. On the surface this is a book that I wasn't sure I could enjoy. I don't usually like reading heavy BDSM, but this book worked on every level. I could believe these relationships and how they worked for these characters. It was just an incredible book!!!
I did enjoy this book, although I was somewhat torn and really struggled while reading it.
My feelings are not attributed to ‘wrapping my head around and actually getting’ polyamorous relationships and its unique perspectives. I get it—I really do.
Nevertheless, I just couldn’t put my finger on ‘not feeling it’... and after careful consideration; I think I will place the blame squarely on –Meredith! I understand the trauma she went through. I understand the process of gaining her life and sexuality back—I just didn’t connect with her character.
I believe Meredith’s return and my tepid reaction to her, as a reader, had a lot to do with my personal belief that—an ‘ex’ is an ‘ex’ for a reason—and yes, that is entirely my hang-up...not meant to take anything away from the story.
I absolutely LOVED Scott in “Light Switch.” I also LOVE Scott in this book. The novel is told using Scott’s POV which is a treat. I had no difficulty or angst regarding the sensitive subject matter and circumstances that moved the plot forward. It was also completely plausible and understandable that Scott would assist Meredith or any other woman that needed his help who found themselves in a similar situation.
“Reconstructing Meredith” was erotic, sensual and just as spicy as “Light Switch.” I loved the cover art and visiting other characters that were introduced in the previous novel, but this book was just different—not in a bad way... just different.
Would I recommend it? Yes. It’s a good read. We discover the evolution of Scott, Kristen and Matt's relationship, after “Light Switch,” and where these characters are headed.
Wow... A great 2nd book in the series.... Sometimes the second book is not as good as the first, since we know what to expect, but it’s just sooooo good.
The story begins with Meredith calling Scott up one night asking for his help, and - although it seems unlikely - they end up in bed that night, despite how unsure she is of herself.
This is the story of Scott (a guy with more than one girlfriend- all in open relationships) & how he helps Meredith get over some traumatic experiences with a terrible ex of hers who called himself a Dom - though he was more of a wife beater & rapist, really.
What is just so good about this story is that it’s told from Scott’s point of view completely, and we see how helping Meredith really affects all aspects of his life. Normally this kind of story would be told either in alternating viewpoints or from the victim’s perspective. We see, through Scott’s eyes, how he also has to deal with what happened to her, even if he wasn’t in the picture when she was being mistreated.
One of the best chapters is when he is fixing her music box... The description goes from the steps he’s using to fix the box, to questions about life & the future and how to help himself & Meredith move forward.
There are a few minor typos, but nothing at all that takes away from the story. I would have liked to see more of Scott with Kristen, but it really was more Meredith's story.
It’s just a fantastic read! I will be rereading it for sure!
I like Lauren Gallagher's voice. Her stories feel real. I'm glad I read this book right after reading Light Switch because the people's lives are intertwined.
Its weird, but this book didn't really 'feel' like an erotica story so much as a psychology story with a main theme of healing after extreme abuse/torture. I guess one of the main thing about all these BDSM books I've been reading lately is that I'm fascinated by the way people think, react, feel, and grow through living the lifestyle. I love figuring out what makes people tick!
Scott is the main male character. In Light Switch, he seemed pretty insulated from a lot of the emotional aspect of his relationships until near the end. In this book, we hear the story from Scott's POV and see the turmoil and pain that Meredith's situation causes.
I skimmed quite a few of the sex scenes, not because they weren't good, but some were very similar to the other book and most were part of Meredith's 'therapy'.
So, the beginning of this book felt like a bit of a re-hash of Scott and Kristen's story. I also feel like the resolution of the story was a bit of bullshit after all of the angst Kristen had about choosing between Scott and Matt in the first book. I don't really understand or relate to the polyamorous relationships that were ostensibly what Scott was into but in the end, this turned out to just be a boy-loves girl tale (with some quirks), which actually was kind of disappointing because even though I don't really understand it, my struggle to wrap my head around it at least kept things interesting.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Not really sure about this - apart from Scott being the most fantastic Dom I have ever read about !! So caring, thoughtful, cleverly domineering.....mmmm yeah!
It was difficult reading about Meredith's past and her horrible ex - but it was uplifting in the way that she was determined to overcome all her psychoses - and I was rooting for her all the way.
This is the first time I've read such well-balanced polyamory; both Kristen and Matt came across as well-developed characters in themselves - it might be nice to read a future story about them too !
Not sure what to say about this book. Meredith who has been in a marriage to a man who calls him self a Dom and really has no right to. What he has done to her and scars (both mental and physical)he has left made me cringe. At times I didn't know if I wanted to go on reading. I'm glad a I did get to watch her take her life back. Although I only read about this lifestyle,it made me think about real life and what could happen if you don't find the right person to trust. So important.
Even though I didn't particularly like Light Switching, this book was included, so I continued on. I liked Scott, but in this book, I felt that Meredith used him and though there is an eventual happy ending, I did not enjoy this book. There are just too many saints and a horrible sinner! Doubt if I will read any more by her. She almost made BDSM boring for me.
I wasn't sure how I'd enjoy this one, as I'm a monogamy kind of girl in my reading. However, the polyamory works beautifully in this story. Scott is sexy as sin, and Meredith is the perfect broken heroine who finds herself and happiness once again.
Wonderful. Really enjoyed the interaction between Scott and Meredith. Plus there were scenes of D/s (with another character) that go absolutely perfectly, which you so rarely see in BDSM it seems to me. And the scenes with a second Dom were terrific, too.
Did not finish- it was too intense for me, especially coming off of Light Switch which was certainly lighter in subject matter. I plan to come back to it when I am in the mood for something a little darker.
I didn't read any of the reviews before I started this book. I wish I would have. I was content from Light Switch that Scott was in a new relationship, and happy. I couldn't wrap my head around this book. I had to stop reading. Even though it's very well written, the story is not for me.
I had a hard time getting into this one for some reason. I did finish it but it was just OK I couldn't seem to get invested in Meredith and was disappointed in Scott and how he let his relationships with his other lovers fall apart.
The heroine of this story was so annoyingly self-centered that it was hard for me to finish the story. I wanted the hero to walk away and find someone less inclined to take advantage of him.
