I just finished reading the first volume of @Full Moon, the sequel to Until the Full Moon. I have fond, nostalgic feelings for Full Moon, which was one of the first BL(-ish) titles I read, almost 10 years ago now. I remember being surprised to see reactions from BL fans when it first came out in English, especially the "this isn't BL" one. See, in my head, it's totally BL. The thing is...after reading the sequel, I've realized that it doesn't seem to be BL in Matoh Sanami's head. Sure, David is all "I don't care if Marlo is a man or a woman," but they also spend like three pages telling a new character how they're not a gay couple, and that David really does like pretty girls. In MY head, it's totally clear: they're two men, and they're married, ergo, gay. Somehow, though, the characters seem to have convinced themselves that the ONE DAY A MONTH that Marlo LOOKS like a girl magically makes them a straight couple. How this works in their heads, I just have no clue, but they seem okay with it, so whatever. What really threw me, though, was when Marlo was all, "Woah, no kissing when I'm a man!" SERIOUSLY?? How--what--why--WHAT? Also, THEY ONLY HAVE SEX ONCE A MONTH ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I just--okay, with the Nostalgia Goggles taken off, now I see what all the fans were saying. I just don't GET this series. -_-;;;

Liked this one better than both of the Full Moon volumes. I think the lore of the werewolf tribe and how their mating works is super fascinating. There’s a lot of good ideas in these and there’s good humor as well (and cool art). I think it was a missed opportunity for a discussion about identity, though, and the way both MC’s say very strongly that they aren’t gay really doesn’t make any sense at all (will be interested to see if they grow to embrace that identity in the next one). I wish more of the ideas in these were followed through with an developed but I get that as a romance comedy series maybe my expectations shouldn’t have been so high. :/

I am a fan of this mangaka and was sad when Broccoli Books publishers didn't publish more of hers so I was thrilled to see new works on a favorite series come out. Hooray!

Honestly, this was even more problematic than the first series...

This was very unique and original. I loved the story line!
I was sad to see that it was only two books, I wish there was more!

It definitely didn't hold the candle up to it's original Until the Full Moon. Not to say I didn't completely not enjoy it, but it was not great.

Once I saw that this was a continuation of Until the Full Moon, my curiosity was piqued. The ending for the previous manga was pretty open ended, so there's lots that could be done with the storyline.

First the good. The artwork here is really great to look at. It's not the uber stylized artwork that was in the first series, but since this is an ongoing manga rather than a 2 volume set, that's understandable. The general idea of the story is good as well, with Marlo and David trying to figure out where exactly they stand with one another and how to successfully have a marriage when both previously identified themselves as straight and Marlo is only female once a month. There's the introduction of a new rival for Marlo's affections (natch), which made for some cute scenes.

It's just that at times the "same old same old" patter between some of the characters would occasionally get annoying and I occasionally wondered whether or not this would succeed as an ongoing series. I'm trying really hard to separate this from the original series, but unfortunately it's inevitable that at some point I'll end up comparing the previous series with this one. Overall this was fun to read but unlike the first series, I'm going to stick to getting this one from the library and/or reading it at the bookstore before I invest in this series. It's good, but it just isn't great.

The bottom line is that this is a cute series but unless the next volume picks it up a notch, I'm not sure that it can sustain itself for multiple volumes.

David and Marlo have embarked on their honeymoon. But even after marriage nothing runs smoothly for them. Supernatural events couple with real-life problems as the married pair have to deal with a rival vampire, inappropriate love stalkers who don’t back off even when learning the object of their affection is married (!) and having to find a new home because their old one has been sold out from under them. Oy. It’s enough to give a vampire an aneurysm.

The action is fun, the characters are very amusing (imagine a tongue-tied werewolf, e.g.) and Marlo gets to explore his female side. The one problem I have with this manga—and it’s a biggie—is that there is no sex. David Vincent is a very sexual vampire and adores women. He had sex with the lovely Marlo at the end of “Until the Full Moon” vol. 2 so I naturally expected that there would be more sex for the honeymoon phase.

But there isn’t. Nada, zero, zip, zilch. What the hell?!? There is plenty of kissing and hugging but come on, this is yaoi and sex is expected, especially between a lusty vampire and his nubile husband/wife/consort! To have a mature relationship without sex being depicted is a big let-down after the payoff of the previous series.

It turns out this is the continuation to a previous series called Under the Full Moon. That explains alot about this volume: it felt like it was relying on pre-existing investment in the relationships and knowledge of the world. It's still pretty charming standing alone, I don't feel like I know these characters very well but I'd like to. The transformation aspect is a bit strange: does Marlo's gender change with his body at the full moon? It's a laughably flimsy way to maintain heterosexuality. I'm married to this guy! I'm still totally straight though; he's a woman once a month which makes this an extremely heterosexual marriage. Yes, logic is a thing these two are great at. The 'rivals' are ridonk but. -shrugs- The tone of this thing is really goofy, I can't be annoyed at the kidnapping and so forth when nobody in the story seems to take it seriously. 2.5 stars

This is the first of a two volume sequel to the series 'Under the Full Moon' - the title having changed due to a switch in publisher.

David and gender-swapping Marlo are finally married and the pair have moved in with David's ex Claudia and her Physician partner who got together in the previous series.

A chibi witch Mona kidnaps Marlo for her vampire master Clive Connelly who wishes to use him for a hostage to stop David feeding on the same women he does. Cue David to the rescue.

Next a werewolf Chris Windsor falls for female Marlo and is determined to make her his wife.

If you like Under the Full Moon you'll love this, the art style has changed slightly but the characters and tone haven't. If you like rom-coms with gender-swapping characters this is great fun.

This manga was a okay read. The reason it dissapointed me was because I thought there would be more humour in it. And I felt it became a bit confusing with all the characters at once.
But I liked the whole story idea. And will definitly check out the sequel when I get time. Hoping there will be more drama and humour in the next book.
Coz the first book was a bit fast for me. Therefor 4 out of 6 stars
