Billy Prescott is a journalist for a magazine in Philadelphia and her specialty is the world of rock. She loves working for the magazine and writing about the things that are important to her in rock music. Billy finds out that being late for a staff meeting is not always a good thing, especially when she gets the last assignment to be handed out. It is to cover a reality show on the West Coast and a rocker trying to make a comeback. Twenty years ago she would have relished the job, following Jet Trently her idol around, but not now. She however is given no choice and is told that by her editor and he expects daily blogs and weekly articles from her. On the following day she finds herself packed and on a plane headed west.
Jet loved playing his music. He had agreed to be in a second season of a reality show called Rock Bottom that showcased him as a rocker looking for love. The only thing that Jet wanted was someone he could talk to and share his thoughts with, while getting an honest opinion. What he wanted and what he would get obviously wasn't what he got. In walks Billy Prescott, not what he had expected at all, he had expected a man not the woman standing before him. This woman was shy, cute and not impressed with who he was or what he had.
Following Jet and his bevy of girls around is getting old. Her blog is blowing the lid off the rating charts for both the show and the magazine. Why then is she feeling so trapped and unhappy? Her editor, who just happens to be her ex-lover, is ecstatic about the results she is pulling in for the magazine and wants her to continue, but Billy has mixed feelings. She knows that Jet is more than his old music and reputation. Will Jet be able to break out and play the music that he wants to? Can there be a relationship between them? Is this what they are both searching for? Read this amazing book and find out!

Would I recommend this book: Yes! This book, while an insight into reality TV and the world of rock, is really much more than a story about either of those worlds. It a story about two people that find their way through those worlds to each other and along the way discover themselves.
Would I recommend this author: Yes! This author is an amazing writer that knows how to involve her readers in the worlds she creates. I look forward to reading Ms. Master’s next literary endeavor.

Review by Ivelisse: Ever watch one of those reality shows like on VHI called Rock of Love and ever wonder what really goes on behind the scenes? I know I have because for me reality TV is not real. This story reminded me of just that.
Billie Prescott lives in Philadelphia, works for a magazine called Strung Out which is a wannabe Rolling Stones and she is a famous blogger. Her editor Everett decides he needs to spike his sales on the magazine and decides to send her half way across the US to Malibu, CA to do an expose on what goes on a dating reality show called Rock Bottom staring Jet Trently. She automatically despises the gig even though she has always had a "fan crush" on Jet and quickly realizes one of the reasons she is getting sent to California is because Everett does not want to continue their affair. Jet Trently is onto a second season of his dating reality show, which he really is not very enthused about. His only motivation to do the show is to try to get himself back out there again with his music. Little did he know it was going to lead to one of the best experiences of his life.
I was captivated by this story just from its blurb. I am a very big music fan and did watch Rock of Love so I found it very interesting to see how an author could make a story from that concept. And Cate Masters did it perfectly! One of the things I am very fond of when I read is the imagery authors try to portrait and Cate does it beautifully. The way she describes the scenery of the house, the hills and sand gives you a perfect picture in your mind. She showed just how important communication is in any relationship, just to say what is on your mind and not assume or guess what the other person might be feeling or thinking. The chemistry, tension and conflicts between the characters were written exceptionally well, made me keep turning the page to see how they were going to resolve some of their issues. She writes a perfect example of forbidden love….knowing you shouldn’t be with that particular person but just can’t deny it and have that inability to say no. It had just the right amount of steamy scenes as well, did not feel thrown in just for the sake of having one like some other stories I have read. Anyone who grew up in the 80’s will appreciate the music references in this book as well, had be nodding my head yes in more than one occasion lol. If you would like to read about a hot sort of Chris Cornell look-a-like (which BTW I used to lust after J) and how he finds his HEA this is the story for you.

Reality TV is taking over the world, and Rock Bottom, the reality show featuring a rock singer meeting women is Billie's latest assignment, much to her dismay. She has to deal with a bunch of snobby women competing for Jet's attention and affection, and not to mention, dealing with the singer himself.
No matter how many times Billie begs to be taken off this assignment and to come home, her boss doesn't let her. So she's got to stay there and suck it up. She's got a job to do, and she'd darn well better deliver! It's not easy listening to the contestants whine. She's got problems with someone getting into her cabin and messing around with her things, and she can't seem to stop thinking about Jet in a way that's more than just her job. Here comes trouble now!
Jet is sick and tired of the show, and he doesn't hide the fact at all. The first half of the book, Jet comes off as almost depressed, and closed off. He seems to have lost his way among the years, and I continuously wondered why. Of course it doesn't help that he's frustrated about not doing more with music instead of the dreaded show, but it seemed more to it than just that. Something about Billie made him feel more alive, but she had her reservations about him and kept her guard up, strictly professional. He wanted to break down the barriers of this reporter.
The path to Jet and Billie's happy ever after is a bit of a rocky one. Billie doesn't want to admit her feelings for Jet, and she dodges his feelings even though he sure they aren't one-sided. Then there's the fact that she's working at a story for the show, and his attention is supposed to be towards the contestants of the show -- and these ladies don't like the fact that Jet isn't giving them the time a day, other than what's required for the show. Though the story was off to a bit of a slow start, it picked up full steam after just a few chapters. I'm always intrigued with a novel that features a singer as the hero and heroine, and Rock Bottom hit the spot for me.
If you like contemporary stories with a sensuous romance, then add Rock Bottom to your list of books to read. It's fun, entertaining, and a great romance.

Okay, the title and cover are a bit cliche but the writing was sound. The story was engrossing for the first third of it but then something happened, or rather something didn’t happen. Billy’s character stop evolving and her constant internal debate and misunderstanding started to get boring. The repetition led me to start the process of not-picking.
Once I lost interest in her character other things started popping up. Billie was too pushy for me. And I found Jet to be arrogant and condescending. Also, I wasn’t feeling the chemistry. It didn’t make my toes curl, but rather, made me scratch my head in confusion. I didn’t see how Jet would have kept trying to be with her when she was so cold to him. I feel like I didn’t get enough backstory for either character to really care about them. So I wasn’t really invested in them.
Then without spoiling it, the ending. ::rolls eyes:: I only finished it because I had invested my time and with 30 pages left I felt I needed too. So solid 4 star in the beginning ending was a 2 star leaving my review at an overall 3 star. Too bad, I probably won’t be reading any more from this author.

I started reading this and immediately thought of Rock Of Love. But it worked for me since I’m a huge Bret Michaels fan. Jet Trently is a down on his luck musician who no longer creates music. Nope he’s stuck with a sneaky agent in a reality show hell. Meanwhile, Billie Prescott is a music blogger sent to cover the show. I really questioned if these two would get it together. It was fun watching their interactions and banter. Although, I found myself getting annoyed with all the interruptions they faces as well.
The Rock references were an added bonus. I’ve always wanted to rock a rock star and in this book, Cate Masters delivered a few of my fantasies.
