Josie’s come a long way from being an average human chick who just wants to sex-up a vampire. She’s dated, mated, and killed one of the world’s richest vamps and is currently seeing a mysterious, blood-slurping hottie named Walker.
Now, Josie must adjust to the realities of a steady relationship with a vampire, which isn’t all exciting parties, hot sex and moonlit walks. And with a vamp who’s anxious to push their relationship to the next phase as mortality bears down on his human’s fragile body, the pressure for Josie to commit is on.
Can their night-day romance survive leaving Josie’s character and individuality intact, or will the secrets of the supernatural community crush her spirit and her chance at a permanent vampire mate?
WARNING: This is not your regular paranormal romance. This series explores the realities (such as they might be) of humans having relationships with vampires and uses a chick lit style to get there. Oh yeah–and the characters within are fallible and not entirely heroic.
Evelyn Lafont. Evelyn is a full-time writer living in Florida with her perfect orange kitties and totally alpha hubby who saves her from squirrels, stray dogs, glue and herself.
Her debut paranormal romance series, The Vampire Relationship Guide, is a four-novella romp that takes a satirical look at what could happen if a clueless human chick really dated a vampire. It’s also got some good sex and romance shoved up in it, making it a lovely four-course meal that won’t leave you feeling bloated after consumption.
Her newest series, Pack Mistress (Quick ‘n’ Dirty Erotic Paranormal Romance) follows the adventures of red wolf Pack Mistress Lorena as she satisfies the males of her south Florida pack while trying to find herself. It’s more serious than VRG, and more erotic. The novel is being released in serial format, with new 30-35 page installments every other month in 2012.

Great Scott, I so love Josie. She is so much fun. She just has this sense of humor, that I can not get enough of.
Josie and Walker are trying to learn to be together in day to day life. Josie is so full of life so she tends to get bored during the day. Walker is set in his ways but he soon starts going out of his way to make his woman happy. I loved seeing their every day normal life not on the run for their life or some crazy crime solving scenario.
This book still brings in the heat and the funny!! Our dark mysterious vampire is pretty darn sweet! We get to see much more of him. Oh and this shower scene was totally awesome!! I loved it.lol
If you like your girl with lots of spunk and your guy dark, dreamy and mysterious then you have found the right series!!
Secrets and Trust is the second installment in ‘The Vampire Relationship Guide’ series by Evelyn Lafont. Funny, sexy and hot are just a few words that would sum this book up to me (and the lead male character Walker..*fans face*).
This book basically picks up where Meeting and Mating (book one) leaves off. Josie and Walker have been spending some quality time together after her near death experience and are on a road trip to Texas, Walker’s home. There were quite a few surprises in this book for Josie and it all started when she arrived at Walker’s humble abode. We see Josie and Walker’s relationship progress as they start to get a bit more serious about one another and what that entails.
I think the basis of this series revolves around relationships. I think if you took the supernatural aspect out of the story, these rules to dating and relationships would be just as applicable in real life. Everyone has to decide what they want from a relationship and work hard at it to make it work if they think it’s worth it. Which is exactly what Josie and Walker are doing in this series. The supernatural aspect is a fun twist to the story and makes it more appealing a read for me. Nothing to do with Walker being such an irresistible, hot and sexy vampire…*shakes head*, nope nothing to do with it at all *smiley face*.
Overall, thoroughly enjoyed reading this installment in the series and can’t wait to see what Lafont comes out with next. It’s definitely a series for those that like reading about the supernatural, especially vampires and werebunnies.
Disclaimer: I was sent this ARC for review by the author. I have not been paid to review this book and everything I have said is of my own honest opinion.
I have been aching to read this book since I read the first book. It felt so good to enter the lives of Josie and Walker(sigh I so love him). I was like a kid in a candy store when I started this book today and I didn't stop(okay once to get a drink)until I was done.
This book picked up where we left off. Josie and Walker heading to Texas where he called home. Talk about a stark contrast to where she lived, basically she went for suburban Florida to put it mildly deep in the county including an airstream trailer. I couldn't help but laugh as Josie tried to adjust to her new surroundings as well as try and figure out what kind of relationship she and Walker had.
I don't want to give too much away, but we are introduced to Were's in this book,(snicker) and wait to you see what kind of were Harry(Walker's friend)is. All I can say its very unique and that is exactly what I love about Evelyn's books.
Only thing I wish is that the book was a bit longer, I could have kept reading all night with these characters and storyline. The ending left me with a smile on my face and wanting more. So Evelyn please write faster.
If you loved the first book then I definitely think you will enjoy this one.
While I wouldn't say a whole lot of nothing happened in the book, a fair chunk is dedicated to Josie going out and about, Walker being possessive and them doing couple stuff before sex. LaFont focused more on the relationship and emotional entanglements this time around, seemed more inclined to have Josie worry about her future with Walker and the fact they couldn't just do what they were doing for however long she lived. I appreciated the fact Josie was more practical in this book, started thinking about something other than sex and seemed to genuinely want to make the relationship work.
Like Josie though I was frustrated with Walker keeping everything to himself. Its pretty obvious that he is thinking long term for the relationship, but the casual way he just...assumes things for Josie got vexing. Especially at the end, when stuff started to happen and he basically patted her on the head and said 'Go home now'. I applaud Josie for not taking his shenanighan's and deciding to do something for herself (though the impulsive decision making was a step backwards).
An improvement over the first book was that LaFont found a way to give the information to the reader without Josie playing Exposition Girl. The world was more accessible and though still could use some more fleshing out (at least where the vampires are concerned) the general idea of things was much easier to follow. I'm not sure I completely dig the reasoning behind why vampires make other vampires--let's just say it takes Elitism to a brand new level, its really selective--but it makes sense as far as the world LaFont has created goes. Especially considering how the other vampires acted.
Going forward (book 3 isn't due out until next year according to LaFont's website boo hiss boo) I sincerely hope we learn more. One of the drawbacks of first person POV is that if the character isn't interested or the author doesn't think the character needs to be interested as part of their personality, the reader has to glean information about things outside of the MC's purview from the interactions the MC has. Sadly Josie wanted to spend more time discussing, at some length, how sexy Walker was and didn't begin to show interest about the larger world until very close to the end.
This was a solid read, fast-paced and definitely humorous and I do like Walker quite a bit. Hopefully now that he understands a bit more about Josie, and some communication has been had, they can find footing to move towards a more productive future.
Josie and Walker are back. In this second look at the pair we are taken to nowhere Texas, can I relate to that by the way, and Josie is unceremoniously introduced to a Stripper who is waiting to welcome Walker home. She then meets his friend Harry who likes to be called "Buck" and when you find out why you are going to laugh! Along with being out in the middle of no place Walker's functional but non glamorous abode does not have the amenities close by that poor Josie is used to, no Starbucks, no High Priced shopping Mall and worst of all no real night life scene. She does manage to find out why Texans swear by their food, in each place they go to chow down it is superb to say the lease. I think her favorite was the "Cowboy BBQ", I know mine was!
All in all there is still a lot of fun going on with the characters, mishaps with poor Josie's shoes lead to a chuckle or two and the spotlighted shower scene will give you an all out laugh. I highly recommend this series, book 1 The Vampire Relationship Guide, Volume 1: Meeting and Mating introduced us to Josie and while she was interesting she was also kind of flighty, in book 2 The Vampire Relationship Guide, Volume 2: Secrets and Trust she is more grounded and at the same time still a hoot to keep up with the way her mind works.
Fast light reading and just what I needed to keep me entertained, now since there was an abrupt ending to book 2 there better be another story released soon or my curiosity is going to make me explode!
The first book was all about Josie accomplishing her ultimate fantasy of sleeping with a vampire. Well in this book, Josie has accomplished that goal, but now she doesn't know where to go from here. She was almost killed last time and has to take time off from her bridal shop in order to get her life back in order. She made a bunch of money for helping capture a rogue vampire (even though she wasn't really trying to do that at all) and is in need of a vacation. She ended up dating Walker in the end of the last book and their relationship is taking on a more serious turn through out this second book. The question is, how do you actually have a serious relationship with a man that is who knows how many centuries older than you and treats you as if every move he makes could be the death of you? How do you get a vampire to share their life story when they have spent years perfecting keeping themselves a secret? How do you get him to trust that you aren't going to leave for a human because he can't do something as simple as go to the mall to shop? Ok...so really there are a lot of questions that come to mind when dating a vampire. Josie is determined to get answers though. What she doesn't expect is that her vampire is actually madly in love with her and will do anything to keep her safe. His job is a constant threat to her life since he seeks out rogue vampires. His twin brother causes more problems since Josie almost sleeps with him unknowingly. His secrets cause a lot of problems and he must learn to open up if he intends to spend the rest of her lifetime with her. Again this is a quick read and very entertaining. By the way, are you wondering what other creatures lurk in the shadows in this world? If vampires exist, what about shape shifters? Zombies? Fairies? You will have to read this book to see what other things go "bouncing" in the night.
When I won this book I was ecstatic, when I got it from the author was overwhelmed, when I started sending it to my kindle I was restless! And I really wanted to read it because the first book was soooo good. Unfortunately due to me being some blog tours, I had to prioritize other eBooks. But when I started this I didn't stop until I finished it.
Honestly, it wasn't as good as the first one BUT it was hilarious! I loved how much this installment made me laugh. Oh and the steamy sex was wonderful. Walker is sooo hot. Even though it was a turn off that he lived somewhere I didn't expect at all and was kind of a coach potato until called out to work.
If you're looking for a steamy, fun, hilarious, and a somewhat chick-litish one-sitting read. VRG series is your best choice. Josie x Walker ALLLLLLL THE WAY!
I really enjoyed this second addition to the series although the way it ended was very abrupt which I really hope means there will be at least a third book in the series if not more! I love Walker and Josie and more characters were introduced in the form of Walker's unexpected twin brother Grady and his for want of a better word aid Harry who is also a werebunny! I will admit to laughing abit learning that this big six foot something guy was a werebunny but it did make other things about his behaviour make sense to me! Now it seems at the end of this that Josie is gonna have all three men moving to live with her in Florida! Another reason for me to hope there is a third book so I can see how she handles that!
I seriously love this series, and can't wait to find out what happens next. Josie gets into so much trouble just by being herself, and her vampire boyfriend Walker is sinfully sexy. There were laughs on almost every page, keeping me from putting this book down. If you love vampires, romance and laughing until your ribs hurt, you don't wanna miss this series.
I'm still laughing as I read on Walker and Josie's journey. Admire the fact that it's a quick read and a very entertaining one at that :) Looking forward to the third book!!
2.75 Stars - Good story, nice funny writing but it needs more romance . . . I wanted to know how Walker felt. Instead he was way too stoic and smirky about his past lovers.
