Innocence to the Max

Rate this book
Dear Author,
This boy wants it all: bondage, pain, punishments and rewards given to him by his first real crush. But he is so young and so confused; he's never done anything like that before. It doesn't help that the guy he's after is a vampire... (who in turn is secretly in love with the beautiful young man) ;)

Please, help the boy tell his story! Thanks :)

Photo Description: The boy is beautiful, no other word for that smooth angled line of cheekbone, classic nose, dark sleek hair, fair translucent skin. He looks down, expression uncertain, yearning, sad. The black leather harness askew over thin naked shoulders speaks of desires at odds with that sweet face.

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Hot Summer Days" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

It's been an amazing journey since DSP first contracted Lorcan's Desire in January 2011. I've published 2 free reads with the M/M Romance group, my back list is growing, met some great people and have made some amazing friends.
I'm still in shock that I'm listed among the many talented authors at Dreamspinner Press! The little voice in the back of my head is screaming, "You are so out of your league."
Shhhhh I won't tell them if you don't :)

You can call me Jo, everyone does :)

“Only a heart has the power to rule a mind. Your soul cried out and mine answered.”

What a beautiful short story... a wonderful sneak preview of the upcoming novel.

Can't wait!

*** 3 beating heart stars ***

Oh my god, what a really uncomfortable picture prompt! :-O Along with the tags I wasn't sure I wanted to read this! *bites nails* But the story turned out alright. But still, there really should have been another picture. *shudders*

A vampire's heart can start to beat again if he finds his soul mate aka his submissive. Since the vampire is a big ass Dom obviously.
I wanted more that a sweet kiss, though! *pouts* It reads like a prequel to a full novel or something.

“Do you control my mind? Is that why I came to you?”

“Of course not,” Max chuckled softly as he pulled him to his feet and wrapped his arms around him. “Only a heart has the power to rule a mind. Your soul cried out and mine answered.”

Beautiful!

Loved this and can't wait to read more.

Loved this story. You captured the somewhat tortured & definitely innocent look in the photo to a 'T'. The story was more of a prequel, however, and I am waiting, somewhat impatiently I will admit, for their real journey to begin. Please don't make us wait too long! Will read more if your excellent writing in the interim. Thanks, SJD! :D

This story left me with a huge question mark in my head. How did both know each names and that Max was a vampire? How did they find each other? What remains with me is a huge 'Why'.

description

“You are my Francisco, my boy. The one I have been waiting for, the one who will make my heart beat again. Give me your innocence and I will teach you to please your master. Give me your heart and you will teach mine to beat again.”

He lowered his eyes respectfully, fell to his knees, and pressed his face against the well-formed thigh of his master. With absolute conviction he said, “They are both yours to master.”

It start with HUGE expectations, then ended with HUGE disappointment.

I keep wondering, how the hell they know each other name ? And How Cisco know Max is a vampire ? Something totally missing in here...

Ok short story. Not really my thing. They don’t actually meet until the very end even though they have been connected for three years. IMHO it kind of ends where it should have begun.

I found this story to be an intriguing start. I liked a couple of the sex scenes Cisco spied upon when he entered the BDSM club. *wink wink* I wish there was more to this story. Cisco is cute as a young innocent boy. Oh the things I'd like to do to him. To hear him whimper, beg and scream would be quite the delight.

A very romantic, well crafted story. No fangs, no blood, more contemporary than paranormal, the way I prefer. Thanks S.J.

I liked the story ok even though it is not something I would usually choose to read. I was very disappointed in the sudden ending.

This story was just okay. There was no character development and the story seemed to end right when it was starting to get interesting. Also - because of the photo that inspired the story, I was picturing Francisco as a pre-pubescent boy and I couldn't get into that at all. This story has light BDSM topics but there is really no BDSM play.

Don't Read in the Closet is a collection of short stories published for free for members of the M/M Romance Group. The best part of this series of shorts is that they were based on a photo and a reader request for a story. Here is the photo and reader request that inspired this story:

I don't really care for this photo because the subject is clearly a minor. I don't like his pre-pubescent physique.

This story was pretty good. I finally got the title at the end. Innocence to the Max; of course, Francisco, affectionately known as Cisco, is an innocent and he is in love with Max- a vampire. I thought the story was well paced, honestly. Max, having seen a young boy on the night of his 16th birthday, was given the gift of his heart beating. Cisco, who had seen Max's eyes for a brief moment, from the passenger side of a moving vehicle, felt the stirrings of completeness. It then took each party three years to make things official. I appreciated the effort that it took to keep them apart for that long. The story is not real long, but it makes up for it with good content. Nicely done.

Insta-love is so not my thing, so no rating on this one.

One big complaint I have is this line: "Cisco stood transfixed at what was, very obviously not a woman..."

He was referring to a trans woman. Just because she hasn't had bottom surgery doesn't mean she's "obviously not a woman". As members of the GLBT community we have to be respectful of all four letters, and it's very disappointing to see the T insulted, whether it was meant that way or not.

This was a short story created for the 'Hot Summer Days' event and appears in Don't Read In the Closet, Volume 2; an anthology of M/M romance that is free on Allromance.com. The author has rewritten and expanded the book into a complete novel. While this is short it is well written and I enjoyed the introduction to Cisco and his best friend Benny. Max's commitment plays out in his years of watching over Cisco; waiting for him and protecting him. The ending was wonderful.

one question...
why?
it was going so well...
really was so looking forward to them being together after all the waiting described, then it just suddenly ends... Cliffhanger...
not fair
I hope there's a follow up story
I am interested in continuing to learn about this type of vampire that we get a glance of...
could be really interesting! (^o^)0

This was an enjoyable story, but I kept thinking there were parts missing. The ending seemed a little rushed, and that is the point where I really wanted to read more. This might have better as a full-length story with more detail of their time after they finally got together.

I love this author. And the premise of this story was awesome. The idea that a vampire's heart beats again when he finds his true mate? See, totally awesome. I am a sucker for m/m paranormal romances.

Not up to S.J.D Peterson's usual standards. There was a lack of explanation around world-building. It didn't, for instance, mention that vampires were 'out' and known till half way through, which was a bit confusing. I didn't like the turn around from near-rape to sex with Max either. Not for me.

The writing was fine but I'm not a fan of insta-love/soul mates. They didn't even have a conversation till the last page.
