Rough Surrender

Rate this book
One master, one woman who craves surrender, and a sky that will challenge them both.

At a time when airplanes are as new-fangled and sensational as the telephone, Faith dares to fly. The one territory she has not explored is her own sexuality. In Leonhardt she discovers the man who can teach her how a woman surrenders her body and her mind. However, Leonhardt has a shadowed past and his own learning to do. He doesn't have the right to keep Faith from flying, even if he thinks airplanes are flimsy death-traps made of canvas, timber and their inventor's prayers.

Faith has her limits, Leonhardt has his flaws, and sometimes the nicest people get murdered by unscrupulous bastards. Even if Leonhardt can save the woman he loves, the battle for Faith’s heart will be the hardest one of all.

BDSM, anal sex, orgasms galore, and a Dom who likes to claim his property with pen, ink and bondage.

Egypt, 1910. Faith Evard travels to Egypt to attend and participate in 'A Week of Aviation' where she will fly her own plane and mingle with others who share a love of all things aviation. Plans change when she arrives and finds a severed human limb floating in the water, her cherished plane has arrived missing key important parts, her step-father has arranged a potential marriage for her, and random women are being murdered in the city.
To her chagrin Leonhardt Meisner, a domineering, controlling but sexually explosive man is there to help and protect her during her stay. And introduce her to a BDSM lifestyle where she ends up being his own personal property for the duration of her stay.

I have read quite a few books written by this author and I have to say that this is positively her best book ever. The attention to details, the historical trivia, the BDSM, the story line all worked brilliantly to create a read that has elevated her to a new level.

The two main characters had me mesmerized. They had a back and forth challenge of dominance where the mental and physical differences between the two were showcased. Of course Leonhardt is a Dom so I know who comes out on top but Faith never gives up trying. She continually challenges him to be her Dom which made for some really really good scenes and approaches to BDSM in the 1910's that have to be read to be believed. I do also have to say that the erotica in this book is so HAWT that a 5 alarm fire warning is indicated.

Along with the sexual chemistry aspects of this book is one terrific plot and story line. Never one to provide a story with a few surprises and twists and turns, this author goes out of her way to give the reader a complex twist and turn suspense adventure story that grips and holds your attention to the end. This is a book that could be made into a block buster movie it was that good.

Now as to my issues. I had a serious problem with one part of the book. I had to force myself not to pitch my e-reader across the room I was that upset not to mention scaring my poor pet with the sudden scream I just had to get out of my system. Unfortunately I don't do spoilers so my vague reference to the fact that Hasim Massri is not as involved in this book to the degree he should have been.

There are sadistic abusers, manipulating men, a murder to solve, and the use of pens that made this a book I loved, loved, loved.

What a great read! Historical, BDSM, Erotic Romance, What makes a story a great erotic romance for me? When it makes me squirm and shiver OOOHHH so right! ~shiver and squirm~ This book really pushed my buttons in the right way. I loved both the Hero and Heroine of Rough Surrender. Set in 1910 in Cairo, Faith is not your typical 1910 woman and Leonhardt is not your typical 1910 man. Faith is adventurous, opinionated, and feisty. Leonhardt is big, bold, and a Dom with a deep dark secret. I can not speak to the historical accuracy of the story but nothing to my untutored eye jumped out as inconsistent. I thought the story very well written with a good mystery to solve and sizzling hot sex scenes. Most definitely sizzling- Had to go back and reread a few of them just make sure I didn't miss anything ;-) I would love to know more about Faith and Leonhardt or even some of the intriguing secondary characters like Beth or Hasim. I believe that fans of Cherise Sinclair would enjoy this book. If you are someone who regularly reads bdsm or someone who is just discovering they might like to take a walk on the wilder side of romance give this book a try. You won't be disappointed. Now I just might have to go read some of the steamier scenes to my husband, just for inspiration you know! Happy reading!

Well I think this author may well have changed my opinion of historical romances, as well as having given me a whole new insight into the varied uses of a fountain pen!

My word this story is deliciously naughty, wicked and panty-melting hot. It also proves that a talented author can make any genre of book interesting to read. I would have read this in one sitting if my awkward family hadn't kept interrupting me with unreasonable requests for meals and the like. The book really had me gripped with it's excellent writing, flowing prose, exciting plot and well rounded characters. The mystery/suspense sub-plot really added extra depth to the story too. My only complaint was that I am sure we were teased about a menage but it never happened, or was that just my over active imagination hoping for even more smut?

One of my issues with historical romances stems from societal norms of the time for women. Their lack of voice and freedom, and the very rule bound way of living often results in a wishy-washy heroine who severely lacks in personality. Ms Silverwood obviously didn't get the memo because Faith is a strong, opinionated and very worthy heroine and for me she totally made this story work. I liked the little touch that she originated from Australia, I just felt this gave her permission to be less uptight than if she had been a British or American woman of the period.

Leonhardt has got to be one of the sexiest and most wonderful Dom's I have had the pleasure to encounter in a book. Often they are a touch too overbearing, or when they are kind/sweet it weakens them as a character, but Leonhardt had it all. Even when he felt the need to 'push' Faith at the end of the book, he explained why, he reassured her and he made her feel comfortable and safe. I loved how he remained dominating and in control and yet at the same time Faith had the true control and 'last say', which is how a true D/s relationship should be but many writers fail to capture this aspect in their stories.

The sex was hot. So hot I felt awkward reading this in the same room as my family. Faith's wasn't the only underwear getting damp! It's not a term I've used to describe sex scenes before, but they were beautiful. They also left me very jealous of Faith and wanting a Leonhardt of my own. My that man does things for me.

So if like me you think 'historical romance - no way' but love a good smutty, kinky read then give this a go, and even if you're not give it a go anyway because it is DAMN GOOD AND HOT TOO.

4.5 stars!

Everything he did, every action, every word, seemed to take some piece of her being and place it in his possession and she could only wait, trembling, for his next move.

This was a great read! I've never been a huge fan of historical romances, so I was hesitant going in, but I shouldn't have been. It added another element to the story, which set it apart from the BDSM romances I've read (which admittedly aren't all that many). I liked everything about it: the characters, the plot, and the setting. Oh, and the sex? HOT.

"If you let me, if you trust me enough, I’ll show you a world of pleasure.”

The story is set in 1910, primarily in Cairo, Egypt. Faith Evard has arrived there for a flying expedition. She is a pilot, as well as an independently wealthy woman. Through her childhood friend Jeremy, she meets a man named Leonhardt Meisner. They embark on a sexual relationship where Faith learns she likes to be dominated. They also slowly open up emotionally to each other, despite a major hurdle: Concerned with her safety, Leonhardt despises the idea of her flying. There is darkness intertwined throughout the story, and it has nothing to do with their 'unconventional tastes.' Women have recently been tortured and then murdered, and since Leonhardt's past is loosely tied to these happenings, Faith is inadvertently put at risk.

Whatever her place was in the universe, somehow it had slipped, and to the end of time, no matter what she did, Mr. Meisner would own a piece of her.

I didn't even have to look through the time-period lens to adore Faith. She was an extremely fascinating woman; she followed society's rules enough to be widely respected, but she also stayed true to herself. As an independent female, I expected her to buck against her natural inclination to submit, but she really didn't fight it all that much. In fact, she resisted submitting to Leonhardt emotionally more than anything else. She had a keen sense of right and wrong, and she was also brave and strong. As for Leonhardt, DAMN. I've never been so attracted to a bald man. He was dominant and controlling, but even though it was difficult for him, he made a real effort to lay off that side of him outside of the bedroom. Even though I understand Faith's insistence that she fly, I also understood why Leonhardt didn't want her to. It wasn't that he thought a female didn't belong in the sky, it was just that he worried about something bad happening to her. Not only was Leonardt a monster in the sack but a saint to Faith outside of it, he was also a morally sound man that wanted to right his past wrongs. No wonder Faith's drawers were constantly saturated; he’s a goddam unicorn in any decade!

“Now, Faith, let’s see how you like being worshipped. You’re all strung up for me to touch wherever I like. Beautiful. Naked. And very wet. I can see it on the insides of your thighs. You like this—being controlled.”

I have very little in the way of complaints-hot sex, a beautiful setting, and a murder mystery, what else could you possibly want?!- but I will say that at times, the sex was almost too plentiful. For once, I actually enjoyed the historical aspect, and I think the whole story would've packed more of a punch if the reader had a better idea of what life was like in Cairo in 1910. Faith and Leonhardt definitely were upper class, so their experiences were likely not indicative of the whole. Also, there was no closure outside of Faith and Leonhardt's relationship status. I undoubtedly knew every sensation Faith's vagina had felt over the course of the book, but I have no idea what happened with two characters that were extremely pivotal in the progression of the story. Still, if an author is going to leave out something I was interested in, I'd rather she fill it with scorching hot sex than anything else. Along with the sex, there was multi-faceted characters and interesting historical references. The 'murder mystery' was a nice touch, adding a tone of evil that kept the reader on their toes. The climax wasn't surprising, but I don't think it was supposed to be. It was definitely suspenseful, though, what with me biting my nails and silently imploring that good wins over evil.

I've had this book on my TBR for months, and I'm so glad I finally read it! I will definitely be reading more from Cari Silverwood.

FREAKIN' AMAZING, AMAZING book!!! It took me way to long to read it because of my work schedule this week, but I stayed up WAY too late to finish it because I could NOT put it down! Leonhardt - man! I never thought I'd be attracted to a big bald man, but damn, he made my heart pound on more than one occasion! And Faith was the perfect combination of submissive and spunky in a time that I'd imagine that was not a combination your saw often! Just FREAKIN' LOVED IT! I think a book that can make you cry is pretty damn good - and I cried on more than one occasion - Cari really tugged at my heart there near the end! One of my favs for 2012 for sure!! and again, this another book that made me say - FUCK 50 Shades of Grey! Seriously - if this is NOT on your TBR pile, you need to add it NOW! Seriously. And don't worry if 'historical' or 'period' books are not your thing - trust me when I tell you that it doesn't matter...just add it already! ;)

Very impressed. This was historical bdsm erotica. The historical details felt real and the research was of very good quality. The writing was stellar and so far above normal offerings in this genre. In addition, there was an actual plot that held together well and had a beginning middle and end. The character development was very well done. You got to know both the hero and the heroine and their story seemed real and genuine. Issues such as the fact that those who felt the need for dominance and submission in prior time periods were considered perverts and perhaps did not consider themselves normal were addressed. The sex scenes were different and hot. Well written and did not seem hokey or prurient really at all to me. The bdsm was there but you could also feel the emotion between these two people. The kink factor while present was not super high so I think it would be a comfortable read for those new to the genre but because of the high quality of the writing is worth reading by those more familiar with the themes.

The writing and story was good people, I'm telling you.

May have slight spoilers.

In author Cari Silverwood’s book Rough Surrender we meet Faith Evard and Leonhardt Meissner.

First off I have to say that I absolutely loved this book; from the steamy hot sex scenes, to the detailed descriptions on the setting.

Secondly; I am going to have to find me a Leonhardt, or a Theo, Sten, mmm, Dankyo… *clears-throat* as I was saying.

Rough Surrender. Pure. Awesomeness. The Queen of the Sex Scene is at it again as she takes us back in time to a time where airplanes are a new and very dangerous thing and tying up and dominating a woman was not something most people know about.

Especially respectable women like Miss Faith. Faith has come to Cairo to fly her plane in the Week of Aviation with other pilots. Leonhardt attracts her attention from the first time she sees him but Leonhardt is not just any man, tall, smart and very domineering he arouses her like no one ever has before and when she boldly invites him to her room—he shows her just how different his desires are, and that she loves it.

Leonhardt doubts his sexual ways on and off thinking maybe they really are wrong, and for the last year and pushed them out of mind, but when he sees the delicate but strong Faith those interests swamp him like a tilde wave, and when he finds submitting to him interests her as well he can not help but to allow himself.

A bargain is struck. For 10 day’s she will be his. But danger is stalking women in Cairo and Faith soon finds herself in the center of it.

This is one of the best historical romance novels I have ever read. Whenever I read a historical book, though I love them, it is always on my mind that the book is historical, how can it not be? With Rough Surrender though, it did not even factor into my thinking. Sure I know it is and I really learned a lot, but the plot flows so easily that it is like being taken into the story, I felt so in sync with the Faith and Leonhardt that it didn’t feel anything like a historical novel while reading.

In fact, it did not really register in my brain again until I was reading the info in the back of the book about the research Cari did for it.

I loved the conflict of Leonhardt’s. He seemed so strong and confidant, (and he was) but he hated Faith flying, it terrified him. Not only that but we have Faith’s conflict as well, though she loves for Leonhardt to take control in the bedroom she does not want to lose her sense of self outside of the bedroom.

Overall--Pure. Unrestrained-Or restrained as it were ;). Awesomeness.

An absolutely must read for anyone who is looking for a wonderful erotica BDSM and historical romance book to read!

*I received a hardcover/paperback/eBook copy/ARC of this book for free to review from the author/publisher; this in no way influenced my review, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Rosebud's Review described the premise of the book very well, so if you haven't read it go read it first and then come back here because there are a couple of personal reflections I would like add to what she had to say.

Let's start off with the bad stuff (and as you can see from my rating they aren't significant to really take anything away from the book); I would have like a bit more "warm-up" with Faith's character to identify her as the free spirit that she's later discovered to be. As it is now she doesn't immediately seem true the time period.
I would also had liked to get her flight from her perspective, to hear her revel in the freedom.. and compare it to freedom of Leonhardt's restraints.
To me there were a slight disconnect when the erotic novel became a suspense novel.
Lastly there were my personal pet-peeve that when she had the chance to take charge and be the dominant one.. she gave it up without hesitation. I know that's probably what the wast majority (the women) wants to hear, but I'm still allowed to raise my voice in complaint... as that seems to always be the case.

Okay, enough with what I hope is some constructive criticism and on to some more positive points; the interaction verbal and otherwise between the two main characters Faith and Leonhardt is what makes this story great and just that would earn this book four stars, but there's more.
I don't object to reading a porn story with just hot sex and I've ready plenty of books without any sexual content, but to me a truly great Erotic story needs to have both, and preferably in a story where both feels like natural part of the complete story like it does in Rough Surrender.
What makes this story magical is Cari Silverwood's ability to use language and words to help build the atmosphere without having to use a lot of description. She placed her cutlery on her plate. is one example of how she uses time typical and today dated words to instil her story with a time typical 'air', which seems effortless but has likely taken quite a bit of work. This is brilliant use of language!
After this I'll definitely have to find more of Cari's books to enjoy.

I practically counted down the days until this was rereleased as a kindle book. It was so worth the wait.

This is the final book to complete my June Opposites Attract BotB challenge, categories single/historical. I was also lucky enough to find a buddy to read it with me for the Buddy Read challenge also happening this month, many thanks Marie!

I'm still floating on my post read happy cloud, really trying to pull to gather my thoughts for a good review.

The attention to detail the author put into this book really made the read that much richer for me. I did stop a few times to look up some specific references to cars, and a fashion designer of the time. On top of all that this book was filled to the brim with erotic escapades. Perfect! Our heroine was a great mix of independent, innocent & daring. Our hero wasn't too shabby either, an awfully creative fellow all around, I might even describe him as bit of a renaissance man.
The baddies made my stomach turn, more than once, and the supporting characters really did round everything out for me.

I can think of my maybe five books I've thought about re-reading, this one is absolutely on that shelf for me. I'm still holding back on the fifth star though. No matter how I look at it, I'm at a sold 4 on this read. I may change my mind, maybe after the reread at a future date.

After stopping numerous times to take cold showers, I have finally finished reading "Rough Surrender" by Cari Silverwood. HR is one of my very favourite genres - especially hot, steamy ones like this one.

Set in 1910 in Egypt, I loved the hot hero and the feisty heroine, Faith. She is very adventurous and certainly has a mind of her own...well most of the time. Leonhardt is very demanding and dominating, with demons in his closet. But once he meets up with Faith, he finds he has a soft, gentle and loving side to him. This is an erotic book that is very sensual and will grip your heart.

There were sizzling hot sex scenes and a very good mystery as well. Cari did a fantastic job of portraying the scenes and the visuals of Egypt. Thanks, Cari for this wonderful and steamy book.

This book just kept getting better and better as I read it. Lots of adventure, a brave woman, a protective man and a murder mystery to boot! The story was wonderful, although it felt to me as though some of the back story was missing as to Faith's life. That, and some difficulty with the author's writing style are my only complaints with this book. I enjoyed the setting, the time period and (of course) the hot sex!

Rough Surrender takes place in Egypt in 1910. I'm not particularly familiar with that time period, but Ms. Silverwood's research made the time period ring true. I recommend this book to anyone who likes BDSM romance (nothing overly heavy here) in an unusual time and place.

This is an example of a repackaged or "rerelease" book that was done well by the author. The author was upfront with her readers about it being a rerelease (so readers know and don't purchase it again if they've already read it). The author isn't increasing the price dramatically, and is even kindly putting it on sale for her readers. This is a great example of a repackaging that's beneficial to the author and fair to readers.

This was a fun story! I liked the setting and the mystery/thriller aspects. There were little extras in the descriptions that I appreciated (the blocks of a pyramid are too tall for a short woman to climb).
I wouldn't say the sex was over the top hot, but it was intense and true to the characters. The tension from the plot made some of the scenes hotter.

This was a fabulous story. Everything about it was a joy to read. From the time and locale to the character development to the poetry and eloquence of the scenes. Likes: The time period—everything from the costumes, to the locale, to the airplanes. I loved Leonhardt’s (healthy) fear of those flying machines and Faith’s fearlessness in wanting to fly them. Dislikes: Smythe. Although he does seem to be quite good at the double entendre and pretty much everything that came out of his mouth was twisted and ugly. Well done there!

The story progresses at an even pace, the characters are developed well, as is the plot, and the unfurling of the relationship was beautifully done. Loved the story.

Faith is a thrill-seeker, a woman who wants to fly at a time when aircrafts are unsafe and dangerous. In Egypt lies her ultimate dream; her own aircraft and a chance to fly at a massive expo. However, things don’t seem to be going to plan when the engine of her craft fails to arrive in Egypt. Whilst trying to discover what has gone amiss, she comes across Leonhardt, a man with an intriguing arrogance and a tortured past.

Leonhardts sexual tastes have always been kinky and, in the past, he has had to use brothels to get satisfaction. Ever since he failed to save a woman who was whipped to death by a cruel man wearing the guise of a sadist, he has never stepped foot into a whore house. When he meets Faith, she intrigues him with her forthright ways and sparky attitude. When she seems to respond to his rougher touches, he can’t quite believe his luck. Is it possible he has found his ideal match?

He convinces Faith to give him some time to prove that they could be married. When the corpses of young women start to appear alongside the reappearance of a very cruel man, Leonhardt convinces Faith to stay safe in his home. It is not seemly, not proper, but she can’t seem to stay away from the man who has taken such thorough control of her body. If only Leonhardt can also convince her against taking to the skies, he would be an exceptionally happy man....

Cari Silverwood has done it again because this is another fabulous book. With a Dom who isn’t afraid to stake his claim, a feisty woman who isn’t afraid to take risks and a backdrop of Egypt in the early 1900’s, I was hooked from start to end. I love the fact her books are always a little different and I find the world she creates compelling. I do hope this isn’t a stand-alone!

I liked Faith as a character. She is a virgin at the start of the tale, which I thought was a brave stance to take in a BDSM book. However, because of her adventurous character and no-holds barred attitude, I believed that she wouldn’t be afraid of her own reactions towards Leonhardts kinkier side. She wants to be offended when he writes his name on her skin, but really she craves that kind of mastery. She doesn’t shy away from anything he wants to show her, trusting him not to hurt her. I thought she was a perfect heroine for this story.

Leonhardt is AWESOME as a Dom. He is a right kinky bastard but he is also so sensitive to her naivety that he doesn’t push her. I didn’t agree with some of his actions with regards to the flying (you’ll see) but I understood his need to protect. He had no qualms about expressing his feelings towards Faith, never allowing any misunderstandings to be made about his intentions towards her. The Dom side of him was amazing. The man proved his mastery with pens, ropes, dildos, inside a bedroom, outside the house and on giant propellers.....seriously, it was out of this world. My only complaint was about where the book ended....seriously Cari? That was cruel :D

The backdrop to this tale is one of murder and abuse of power. It gave the whole story a very tense feeling and made it a little darker...it was perfect, although it was never hidden who the killer was.

A historical tale of Domination and submission with whatever implements happen to be handy. I loved every second of it....Leonhardt can write his name on my arse-cheek any day (well, if he was real...)

I was looking forwards to reading this book but, at the same time, dreading having to review it. You see, I like the author, Cari Silverwood. She's a hell of a nice lady. So I don't want to be the black-hearted bastard who cost her book it's 5.0 (at the time of writing) average rating. But I don't pull punches. Not for anyone.

A historical, erotic romance. To be honest, I've never heard of, much less seen, such a thing before (I've clearly led a sheltered life) but it does work. The period detail does lend a charming lustre to the story, rather like the rich varnish on an exquisite piece of antique furniture. I have to give a great deal of credit to Ms. Silverwood for her comprehensive research. It would have been easy to resort to laziness and discount any discrepancies in the characters' manner and clothing as resulting from their personal tastes. It would be harder to wave away technical inaccuracies regarding the aircraft of the time. I'm not an early aviation buff but I didn't detect any hint of fakery.

Slightly less impressive is the vocabulary and phrasing which, while authentic, was laid on a thickly for my tastes. Though it is notably wound-down behind closed doors, which obviously accounts for large tracts of the story, so it does give certain air of the characters behaving very formally in public but letting their hair down in private.

Speaking of behind closed doors... I have trouble comprehending how a lady could reach adulthood and yet remain so naive about her sexuality. If you can get past that, the interplay between our hero and heroine is both kinky and genuine in a way you rarely encounter in an erotic story. There's an honest sense of Leonhardt trying to understand Faith's passions, which is a decidedly pleasant departure from the generic, literary dom who sees only a random chuck of female flesh to flay.

There is a secondary plot about a series of murders but unfortunately it's undermined by the "romance" part of "erotic romance" - you can safely bet your house that the hero wont turn out to be the bad guy.

I guess in conclusion, this is ambitious project which took an author of Ms. Silverwood's calibre to pull off, and she does. My only major complaint is the blandest title ever, but you'll forget all about that amongst the dusty heat of Cairo outside and the delicious heat between Leonhardt and Faith inside.

Rough Surrender was a joy to read the first time, and even more so this time!
Even though i was prepared,or thought i was,i still needed to use my shower a LOT!
It proves yet again, the skill of Cari to take you by the hand and drag you into whatever world her story is in,and LIVE IT!
For Rough Surrender she researched a particular period in real history, and has a few links right here to give you the background you need.

http://roughsurrender.weebly.com/hist...
http://roughsurrender.weebly.com/kink...

Which leaves me with the story itself…..

Faith is a woman that values her independence, and that’s rare for that time in history.
She is also a woman that has an adventurous mind, and flying an aircraft is something she enjoys very much.
Hence her visit to Cairo….where the greatest adventure of her life is about to begin.
And i don’t mean flying her aircraft……
Meeting Leonhardt awakens something in her she didn’t know was there, and he’s more than happy to show her more.

Leonhardt made a vow after a deadly experience a year ago in London.
He could’ve interfered, but was to easily reassured, and it meant someone died.
So,no more kinky business for him,and Cairo is the place where he started over.
But then he meets his friend Jeremy’s friend…..and Faith calls to his inner Dom.
An innocent he wants to be adventurous with,as long as it’s not flying that deathly contraption called an aircraft.

Before long, they’re both invested in more, they’re both feeling something deeper, more meaningful, long term even.
And they fit like peas in a pod,his domination and her submission fit perfectly.
If only she would give up that blasted airplane!

But trouble is brewing, and bodies are found…..
Does this have anything to do with his past?
Keeping her safe is all he wants, but can he?

Numerous cold showers later,at the last page of this delicious story,i can only conclude that this story is as wonderful an experience as it was the first time.
The eye for detail, and the care with which Leonhardt leads Faith down that kinky path,it all shines from the pages.
And it confirms,yet again,why i adore Cari Silverwood’s stories!

Rough Surrender is a scorching hot, historical read. It’s the early 1900’s. Aviation has taken the world by storm. Everyone is clamoring to be a part of this new phenomenon. Well almost everyone. Leonhardt Meissner, a man skilled in the art of control, thinks it’s dangerous and insane. Of course he would fall for a daring woman who seeks the freedom only flying in the skies can bring her.

Faith Evard is among the first female pilots. Adventurous and feisty, she’s not afraid to take risks. She meets Leonhardt Meissner in Cairo during Aviation Week. He’s like no man she’s ever met. He’s handsome with a spark of danger. Faith has no sexual experience. Leonhardt, however, has plenty of it. His tastes run dark and wicked. With
only ten days in Egypt, Mr. Meissner draws her in as he masters her body, mind, and her very soul. In the end will his demands in and out of the bedroom be too much for her to handle or will she stay and fight for what’s in her heart?

Wow! Leonhardt Meissner can tie me up and make me surrender any damn day. He’s intimidating, but not overly. He comes to care quickly for Faith and becomes very protective of her. Faith is surprised and confused by how easily she gives him that much power. But with the things he does to her body, she doesn’t dwell on it too long. Ms. Silverwood did an amazing job setting the scenes. The banter between Faith and Leonhardt was natural and real. I loved seeing the teasing and playfulness Cari Silverwood brought to the story. Her depiction of that time was well researched. And…ahem…she makes use of a very interesting pen holder. Gotta read this one if you want to know what I‘m talking about. ;) Oh yeah there’s also a murder mystery interwoven that needs to be solved. Thank you Ms. Silverwood for a titillating read.

I read this book for a challenge. The purpose of the challenge was to introduce me to something out of my norm, while staying within the Erotic genre. I am an avid reader, mostly of Erotica, but I very rarely enjoy anything historical. My hang-ups in historical reading are the language and women being so fragile. I have nothing against it, but as a young modern woman, I get a little frustrated with the drawn out proper talk, when something could be said strait forward and quicker. It also rubs my buttons wrong when a woman is so fragile she faints when situations get sticky. I know I am in the minority here and Historical Romance is a very popular genre, it’s just not for me.

Having made that clear, I struggled with the beginning of this book, because of said qualms, but I grew to love it immensely. I love Leonhardt! His possessiveness is scorching. Faith is an inspiration to women with her strength, determinations, bravado, and her down right bravery in a time when women are still fragile little creatures.

The sex, wow- the sex, it will set your panties on fire and a constant yearning for release. I’m not usually so crude in reviews, but I was truly taken by surprise with this book. I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes Erotic writings, a little on rougher side.

The writing is very well done and it is clear the author did a lot of research for this book. Very well done Ms. Silverwood!

NOT my review. This book is a BDSM themed erotic romance. If you are not in love with both BDSM and books where the plot revolves around love, sex and BDSM, with the suspense plot and history of secondary importance this may not be the book for you.

The ending is heart-stopping and riveting. I could not put the book down for the last 80 pages or so, not even to answer the phone or fix dinner. Who is the killer? Who is his next victim? Will the victim be rescued in time? Will Faith’s airplane motor be found? Will a pilot walk away from a crash? So many things happening at once to bring this story to a dramatic conclusion. This is a plot-driven novel but the characters are fully developed, from the main characters, Leonhardt and Faith, through all of the supporting cast. I enjoyed this book so much! I hope there is a sequel to bring us further adventures of this sensational heroine and the man who loves her with his whole heart.

Since I first read Agatha Christie's 'Death on the Nile' when I was a teenager, I've had a passion for Egypt, murder mysteries and the 1900-1920's.
Cari Silverwood, in writing Rough Surrender, has woven all three passions around a story of Faith's sexual awakening (and what an awakening!) via Leonhardt's skilful ministrations.
With the author's faithful descriptions of location, fashion, vehicles and aircraft of that period, and her attention to detail, you were left in no doubt you were there in that time and that place!
I really enjoyed this book and hope there is a sequel. Ms Silverwood left me eager for more of Faith and Leonhardt - and perhaps Hasim?

HOT READ!!!!! I stayed up all night and read it through in one sitting! Couldn’t put it down! The connection between Faith and Leonhardt is mesmerizing. The plot kept me glued to my e-reader. And the sex scenes... my poor husband suffered for them later. The BDSM isn’t hardcore, as the warnings led me to believe, but the scenarios are so scorching that I know I’ll be reading this again and again!

4.5 stars!! I wasn't really sure what to expect when I first starting reading this book but I was pleasantly surprised. This was my very first historical book but Cari Silverwood blew me away. This book is very hot and extremely kinky which I really loved. My knowledge of 1910 Egypt is lacking to say the least but from the details in the story it appears the author really did her research.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this review voluntarily

This was a reread for me. It definitely was more enjoyable my second time around. Silverwood's storytelling is impeccable to the time and place. I love her strong dominant women in her story during a time when women were not looked upon as equals. I also love how Faith is not afraid to be dominated and knows she won't lose her independence or individuality by doing it. It's a mysterious loving love story.

Victorian Vices

Faith, a British aviator and Leonhardt a "businessman" meet by chance at an airshow in Cairo. Love the mix of a vintage Era, with romantic BDSM. Also, a bit of intrigue thrown in to spice things up even more. A good read.

Bust out your corsets, ladies, because we are taking a trip back in time - to 1910, to be exact... I don't think I've ever read a book quite like Rough Surrender. I've never been particularly into BDSM books but this one may have changed my mind, because it's not just about the kink. I'm not entirely sure I can categorize it. I guess if pressed I'd say it's an erotic, historical, BDSM, murder-mystery romance....but even that doesn't quite cover it. Let me just say it's unique, intriguing, addicting and really fucking good. How does that work for y'all?

Faith Evard is no wilting flower. She's in Cairo for an air show, determined to fly high above the city and through the pyramids, when she mets engineer Leonhardt Meisner. For both, the attraction is instantaneous, but Leonhardt is determined that he will not act on it. He has....different tastes in the bedroom and the beautiful, innocent Faith is not the type of woman he usually beds. Or ties up. And whips. When she invites him to accompany her to her room, the temptation to make Faith his is too great and as he helps her explore and learn her sexuality, she is opened up to a whole new world of pleasure. But with the pleasure, comes pain. He does not approve of her aerial activities and is determined to stop her. She wants to give in at the same time she wants to retain her independence. The road to happiness is not an easy one...someone will have to surrender.

I am so taken with book and these two characters. Faith is a delight - an unusual mix of innocence, determination and independence. Despite being a woman of her time - naive when it comes to orgasms and her own body - she's forward enough to recognize what she wants and go for it. Her reluctance is balanced by her intrepid nature. Cari Silverwood gives us a heroine that is believably submissive in the bedroom and dominant outside of it. That's quite an accomplishment. Leonhardt is a unique alpha male. He's strong, stubborn and dominant but he also shows compassion and gentility, as well as a desire to be accepted by Faith. In a time when men wouldn't normally consider a woman's feelings and opinions important, he's man enough to admit he still has a lot to learn and that Faith may be the person to teach him. There's a little mystery simmering underneath the central story of Faith and Leonhardt that illustrates the danger of BDSM and highlights the compassion that both Faith and her Master share. It makes Rough Surrender more than just hot, dirty, forbidden sex. The *ahem* climax will get your heart-pumping, as will the *ahem* climaxes that Leonhardt introduces Faith too.... Who knew life in 1910 could be so sexy?

This is a standalone novel. No cliffhanger

“Because it thrills me. Because when I fly, I am truly alive. You must come up and fly sometime. Do something new in your life! I dare you, sir!” Rough Surrender (Kindle Locations 602-603).

I have to admit this was my dare read, as I don’t often venture into such an explicit content. Now… don’t take this the wrong way. I don’t consider myself a prude, but historical BDSM erotica is not really on my to-read list. So, this was quite an unexpected read, and what a surprising experience it was! I was not familiar with Cari Silverwood’s prior writing, but she masterfully pulls it off: the setting, the characters, the mystery, and of course, the scorching romance.

In the early 1900’s when aviation is still viewed as novelty, Faith Evard is among the first women pilots. Adventurous, feisty, and sufficiently wealthy to sustain her extravagant hobby, the sky is where she truly feels herself alive. Being a well-bred young lady, her stepfather would rather see her safely married off but Faith has other ideas about her future. But Cairo’s Aviation Week might hold more than just the expanse of bright blue skies, when Leonhardt Meisner unexpectedly enters her life and opens a whole new world of experiences to her.

Leonhardt Meisner, an engineer, has moved to Cairo to distance himself from the London society and his own sexual preferences. The events of the prior year, when a prostitute, from a local London establishment he used to frequent, is found dead, whipped and badly beaten, has shaken him. And having struggled to reconcile his own need for sexual dominance he forswears it, at least, until he meets Faith.

Unlike many other society ladies of his acquaintance, Faith is highly opinionated, independent and daring, but sexually inexperienced. So, Leonhardt takes it upon himself to educate her, and the two begin an affair that will challenge and surprise them both. While Leonhardt and Faith slowly ease into their unorthodox relation and continue to test their boundaries, Cairo is shaken by the gruesome murders of women. Then, Mr. Smythe, the proprietor of the London brothel suddenly appears in Cairo.

Mysteries amount, the romance sizzles, and Faith and Leonhardt seem to be caught in the middle. With a backdrop of a murder mystery, and the focus on romance and sex, a great cast of characters, saucy dialogue, and historical setting, Cari Silverwood delivers an entertaining read that certainly leaves an impression.
