Exception
Official Description: In the gaming world, an exception is an event where something goes wrong. When Charlie is caught in an ill-timed bank robbery, that's exactly what he thinks it was - exception. Only this isn't a video game, this is real life, those are real guns, and Charlie is in very real danger.

Oh, God! This is nothing like Halo! If I die, I don’t get an infinite amount of other lives! How’s a nerd who’s only experience and training with a gun is from Halo wind up here?! One minute I was shooting an exploding barrel and the next I was taking down a drug kingpin but there’s no A button on this gun and I can’t see through my helmet.
This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love is Always Write" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

Sweet story. Charlie and Niko meet in a bank one morning. The attraction between them is immediate, but something unexpected happens.
The story is told from Charlie’s viewpoint and it is very engaging and entertaining.
Too much blushing to my taste, but also lots of humor and fluff.
Charlie and Niko are tuned to each other instantly – the story is kind of insta-lovish, but fun altogether.
"Alright, people, hands up! This is a robbery!"
Of course this would happen. Of course the bank would get robbed on the day he was (hopefully) about to be asked out by the sexiest man he'd ever seen. This could only happen to him.
The story is told from Charlie’s viewpoint and it is very engaging and entertaining.
Charlie felt his heart skip a beat. Sexy, gay, and a militarized cop with specialized training for hostage situations and other ridiculously kick-ass things? He was so fucked.

He caught sight of Charlie's paused game. "Skyrim?"
Charlie blinked. "You play?"
"Some. Fus Ro Dah!" Niko did a tiny fist pump that made Charlie flail inwardly.
"Did you just…. I can't…. Oh my god. Marry me? I don't even care if I have to be Charlie Snuffleupagus."

A really, really great story! Charlie's voice was just delightful - a little snarky, a little funny and a little insecure. Niko was definitely hot but still real. Loved his nickname! Made me laugh right out loud!

Offered FREE from the M/M Romance Group, Love Is Always Write: Volume Three.
3.5 stars This was a good short story, although the characters were well developed enough that had it been longer I'm sure I would have given a slightly higher rating. I loved Charlie's sense of humor, and I definitely felt a connection between he and Niko during their flirting. The bank robbery was good to set things in motion and up their connection, but given the length of the story they did a good job at not making it too intense and overpowering so that it took over. I liked the back-story on Charlie too, it was thorough and enough to make him a deeper character without being too much information for a short. Great HFN ending that leaves us hoping for more.

Eh what happened to Nico over the skipped five days? Why he just now showing up?
Why did he make such a big deal of tracking down the mc like it was so hard? Why don't he just look at the witness statements? All the mcs contact information would be right there. Instead he looks up every person with that name and narrows list down by location? Seriously? That's how he does it?
I would have liked this better if the character of Nico was developed at all. He's a good cop. That's his personality apparently.
And the story itself is kind of blah. I liked it but it was just them during the robbery. Then five days later Nico shows up they have sex and talk about getting married. The end.
So yeah guess all my complaints are its too short too be developed enough for me to really get into

I didn't care for the picture prompt when I saw it, but the author wrote an adorable story. It has action, sexiness and two engaging characters. Charlie and Niko have great chemistry together. The story seemed to be divided into three segments. The bank robbery, Charlie's inner thoughts and finally Charlie and Niko together at the end. The first and third parts had a nice pace to it. The middle was a bit slow but the rest of the story made up for it. This was an enjoyable read.

Sweet, cute and hot. The only thing I didn't care for was the "arrow to the knee" joke; I'm a gamer and I get it, but I can't imagine almost laughing as someone was hurt in real life no matter what popped into my head. However, this minor complaint does not ruin the story and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Rinny, you have talent and a lot of promise: keep writing!

I liked this short free from the LiaW event!
Charlie had such a great 'voice' he was funny and I liked his babbling.
Niko seems like a great guy and I'm so glad that in the few days in between their meeting Charlie decided to go after his dream again, I would love a follow up on these two!

I liked what the author did with this prompt. The story line has a nice flow and a bit of depth. There is a couple of moments that made me laugh. It was nice seeing that both Niko and Charlie made an effort to find one another afterwards. The ending left me feeling that all would end well for these two.

What a great read! I enjoyed the characters, especially Charlie. The author managed to give me a background story and a good and believable beginning of a relationship between the men in such a short story. I'm amazed and also very entertained. Thank you, Rinny!

Great story. Too much about the bank robbery and not enough about the characters. Otherwise, the writing was good. It had a nice easy flow.
