This 120th Novel of Crime Reporter Sunil starts with the humorous chat between Sunil and Renu. A middle aged lady named Achala Talwar, approaches Sunil and tells her that either a murder has already been committed or about to happen. She tells Sunil that her acquaintance Ms. Udita Chopra responded to an advertisement and was selected by one Mr. Amrit Sikka for a strange assignment and was promised for a hefty consideration. The job was to stay for a few days at a flat rented in the name of some Sujata Saxena. When Ms. Talwar expressed her concern regarding safety of Udita, she was also offered by Mr. Sikka to give her company during the assignment, on the promise of separate consideration. Her job was to receive the incoming calls on basic phone installed inside the rented flat and to reply the caller that Ms. Saxena was not feeling well and therefore she was taking rest and will call back later. After replying to the call, she will have to call on another number and report to Mr. Sikka regarding the details of the call/caller.

Though unconvinced, Sunil assures Ms. Talwar that he will do something in the matter as he is ASM - Aadat Se Mazboor. But before Sunil could do anything and get a clue, Ms. Talwar's nightmares comes to reality and a murder is committed in the rented flat and the murder weapon - the Knife Ms. Talwar use to keep in her handbag. Now it was Sunil's job to search for the Murderer and solve the mystery.

It is the clues and hints that leads Sunil from one step of the ladder of the solution to another. The mystery is intricate.....the one readers are used too.......with all the essentials of a typical Sunilean Novel. The presence of Sunil is felt everywhere in the Novel, from the first scene till the last one and an impressive one, but it was Sunil’s friend Ramakant, who proved to be a show stealer indeed. The humor linked with Ramakant is characteristic and as always, fresh. However one can feel in this Novel that Ramakant has proved to be the thousand hands of Sunil.

Positives: The perfect chemistry between Sunil and Ramakant, Typical Sunilean mystery and step by step revelation of the mystery.

Negatives: The revelation of Murderer is a weak point of the Novel considering that the motive behind the murder was not much convincing.

This was boring and lazily written book. Double game was full of plotholes.


Why Sujata needs double when she herself told Sameer that she is having affair? Why would he believe her?

Achala and Udita are two stupid ladies who agreed to impersonate Sujata. Didn't Udita knew it was a crime?

Who uses landlines in age of mobiles? In once place Sujata says satta is hi tech in age of Internet?

Who uses PP numbers? Who writes down landline numbers on pad in age of mobiles?

Which private detective worth his salt will start a surveillance without photographs and id proofs of the person of interest? Why did not sameer saxena have a photo of her wife in the mobile or at his home?

Which idiot murderer goes back to put khanjar in the wound again?

Pathetic book.

डबल गेम,सुरेन्द्र मोहन पाठक का उपन्यास..हमेशा की तरह कहानी अच्छी,थोड़ी पेंचिदा..उपन्यास में अगर कुछ खलता है,तो वो ये कि कई जगह संवाद बहुत ज़्यादा हैं और उनका कहानी से कोई लेना-देना भी नहीं है,जिसके कारण कहानी से भटकाव भी हो जाता है और साथ ही बोझिल-सा महसूस होता है।

Murder plot was quiet ok, but the murder motive was not so convincing, book is quiet not produce that thrills like other SMP's Sir novels...

This was my first book by Surender Mohan Pathak. I was really impressed by the suspense and the characters of the story.
