*The author is listed as Ben Graham at Amazon, but shows under Ben Zackheim's profile. Ben Graham doesn't have one. I have listed both authors here.

Ben's storytelling adventures started as a Production Assistant on the set of the film, A River Runs Throught It. After forgetting to bring the crew's walkie talkies, losing Robert Redford's jacket and asking Brad Pitt if he was related to Paul Newman (in front of Paul Newman) he decided that film production didn't "speak" to him. Since no one else on the set would speak to him either he knew he needed to find work that required minimal human contact.
Writing. That did the trick.
His three series, Shirley Link, The Camelot Kids and Relics appeal to young and old alike. Emily Neuburger of Parents.com says, "[Shirley Link] is an amazing series!" and Julie Ann Grasso (author of the Adventure of Caramel Cardamom books) says The Camelot Kids will "leave you clutching onto your Kindle." Stephen King says, "I'm not providing blurbs at this time," but Ben is chipping away at King's resolve.

I received the book for free from the Author in return of my honest opinion.
Shirley Link is back again and so is another mystery. In this second installment the school puts up a the first addition of The Avengers comic on display in hopes it would get the children visiting the library and reading. In order to prevent the book from disappearing the principle hires Shirley to make sure the security is high enough that even she cannot break through. With the sudden threats that appear as a form of computer virus, Shirley actually discovers ahead of time who the thief is going to be.
Jacob is a new kid in school, his smart and cunning and for the first time Shirley might have found her match! Now it's a battle of wits of who can outsmart the other better and get to the comic book first.
Adorable! A great read for the middle school kids, especially those that love mysterious. Shirley is witty, smart and overall a delightful. The book reads fairly quickly, but its very entertaining and engaging. Follow Shirley as she stumbles the clues to uncover when the comic is going to get stolen, while her silly friends do their best to help. A perfect fast read for children.
While it doesn't quite have the same sense of being a whodunnit that I enjoyed in the first Shirley Link, and the story feels a little too quick in the telling, there's still something to be enjoyed in Zacheim's second offering in the series.
Shirley Link and the Hot Comic, truth be told, does not shine brightest when viewed on its own. Rather, it is more functional as an introduction of the new character, Jacob. It also gives Zackheim an opportunity to solidify Shirley's personality, as well as those of the rest of the supporting cast.
As a children's book, it's a fun afternoon at the park. Enjoyable while it lasts, but over far too soon.
I would recommend parents bundle this together with the next book in the series, Shirley Link and the Treasure Chest, which provides the complexity that isn't quite present in this volume.
Even a grown-up can get involved with Shirley Link. In Ben Zackheim's second Shirley Link book Shirley tries to prevent a crime from taking place. Shirley's friend Wiley and Marie are in this book and Shirley makes a new friend, well maybe??? Jacob's been home schooled up to this point. It appears that he's heard about Shirley. He tries to impress her by stealing a most valuable comic book that will be on display in the school library. Once Shirley figures out what's going on she tries just stop Jacob before the actual crime is committed. I can guarantee that Shirley saves the day but what does she have to go through to do so. Go ahead, read this book and find out for yourself. It's a keeper!!
Yet again, one of the most entertaining teen/middle school and YA books I've read to date. Engaging characters, comics, hackers and more - as a part-time geek and full time visual storyteller, I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend the series. Can't wait for the next installment. Well worth the read and investing in Shirley, her adventures, intellect and deductive skills. As a father of two daughters, it is great to read a new series with such a strong lead female character. Our oldest was hooked from cover to finish.
Looking forward to checking out Ben Zackheim's new Camelot Kids as well.
This was well written an simple for the mid to older elementary age. It has the adventure plus cognitive element so is a great teaching tool. There is extenuating thought activities at the end which encourages deeper understanding of the material. The only problem I had was it ended to abruptly. It felt like a very weak ending; like part of the book was missing.
It was a solid sequel. I like the new character Jacob and hope he sticks around. I think Jacob is just what Shirley needs as she so eloquently puts it: "Would I have been better off with Jacob as an arch-enemy?" Shirley is an interesting gal, she is overconfident and a bit brash, but still young enough to have respect and adoration for her mom - a nice mix.
Second Shirley Link book I've read... Even though I'm not (really) the author's target audience...I LOVE THESE STORIES. If you know a child who likes mysteries...this is a recommended read. Heck, if you like Sherlock Holmes, this is the kids' version...excellent.
Just realized my review of the first Shirley Link book got out under this one instead. I have fixed that and a review of this book will be coming in a few days.
Shirley Link and the Hot Comic is the second Shirley Link book I've read and the second time that as soon as I finish the last page, I rush to share this with my 9 year old nephews. This is such a fun series for middle-grade kids (and even as an adult, I can appreciate the story and characters). While Shirley Link and the Safe Case was a perfect introduction to clever teenage sleuth Shirley, I was even more engaged by the comic book storyline in this second book in the series.
The story alone - in which Shirley matches wits with new student Jacob as she tries to prevent a $100,000 Avengers #1 comic book from being stolen - is enough to earn this book five stars, but add the fun Brain Teasers and blank pages for Clues/Case Notes in the back and you have a pretty perfect little chapter book.
The second Shirley Link adventure is another rip-roaring success as she prevents and solves another dastardly crime set in her school.
This one has all the complexities of modern technologies, with a villain set on threatening Shirley with codes and viruses. But she is equal to the task, of course!
It's an exciting read for youngsters in the 9-12 age bracket, although I got a little confused by the ending (I'm sure they won't be).
