Ruth earned a B.A. in American Thought and Civilization from George Washington University and an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Maryland. Although she always wanted to become a writer, Glick was convinced that her lack of spelling skills meant that her goal was unattainable. As a stay-at-home mother, she took a community college course to help her choose a career. The course made it very clear that writing was her primary interest. Glick began writing articles for newspapers and magazines, but after several years decided to try writing fiction. Her first book, a kids' science fiction book, was finally purchased by Scholastic Inc..
Since then, Glick has become a highly successful author of over 50 romantic suspense and paranormal novels. Many of her novels are published under the Harlequin Intrigue line, and in June 2003, she became one of the first authors published under Berkley's new Sensation imprint. Before 1997, she often collaborated with Eileen Buckholtz and Kathryn Jenson.
Glick also is a highly regarded author of cookbooks focusing on healthy eating. She sometimes hires trained chefs to test the recipes that she creates, and makes sure that every recipe is tested at least three times before it appears in one of her cookbooks.
Glick is the head of the Columbia Writers Workshop. She and her husband, Norman Glick, live in Columbia, Maryland, where Ruth collects rocks, and enjoys cooking, walking, reading, gardening, travel, and Mozart operas. They have two grown children, Elissa and Ethan, and two grandsons (Jesse and Leo).

I picked this book up today in the kindle store for free. This is a fantasy/sci-fi romance written by Rebecca York.
This is a VERY short book, but it was really good.
The Guardians crashed on the planet Jalaran a century ago. There was no hope of rescue. The people lived in fear of the Jalarans. But, the Guardians had something they wanted. Technology. When it becomes clear that the Guardian males are sterile they make a deal with the Jalarans. If they will mate with their females and produce offspring, they will share their technology. Elena is one of the women chosen. Rohan marries her. He is not the barbarian she thought he would be. She pleases her physically, but over time she begins to fall in love with him. Soon she finds she is pregnant. Before she can tell Rohan, he discovers that the Guardians had betrayed the Jalarans.
What will happen to Elena and her child?
I don't normally read a lot of sci-fi/ fantasy books, but I love Rebecca York's novels. When a book is free and it's written by reputable author, it's worth a try. It only took me about 15 minutes to read, if that. These short stories are great for a work break or lunch break. This will take you completely away from your stress for a little while.

Well-written, with some heat but not too graphic. I also liked the juxtaposition of Elena's treatment by her human husband versus Rogan.

My only complaint about this book is that it's too short. I loved the concept of the alien having more respect for the human than her first human husband. Would love to read how life in that cave developed for the half-breed children.

This is going to be more of a NOTE, rather than a REVIEW.
I am a huge ST:NG fan, specifically since I found Worf rather HOT.
This novella, which is a short & quick, easy read, was recommended to me by a fellow reader in the Shut Up & Read group & after reading the synopsis provided or rather the comment regarding ST & Worf, I said: YEAH!
Now for my sad comments. . .
Although I liked the story/novella, it was too short - & yes, I do know that is what a novella is. My feelings though are I would have like the world to have been expanded upon. I enjoyed reading about the relationship between Rohan & Elena, but, and it might be BECAUSE I am a huge science fiction/fantasy reader, I would have liked to see more of the world & conflict between the two species. My main thought reading this was: I would like to read other books in this world. I wonder if Rebecca York plans to come back to this book and expand upon it.
I don't want to discourage anyone from reading this, far from it, as I think it's a great read and short at only 30+ pages. I also think paranormal romance readers, as well as fans of Science fiction series like "Star Trek," "B5," "Stargate," "Alien Nation," and so many more would appreciate it like I did. You might even have the same thought of why can there not be more. . .

This was an original idea about a woman who is part of a group of fertile women married off to men from the planet they are on. The earth men have all become sterile & in exchange for marriage & children the "guardians" will give the Jalarans technical knowledge.
The earth people "guardians" (gov't) have also decided any children of the couples would belong to them. Not the parents. I can't say much because it was so short, but it would have been a great full length novel instead of a novella.
I liked this story, but it was too short. I wanted more!!

is a quick read set far in the future on a planet not conducive to the human colonists who crash-landed there. Generations have passed and the humans must make a pact with the indigenous peoples for...breeding. At it's heart, this is a story of two people of different cultures learning to respect and love each other. Ms. York could have made this a longer tale. There's a great many themes to be explored. If you want a fast read of the Sci-Fi variety, this would work.

Being a Star Trek TNG fan, I couldn't pass this one up when I saw the blurb on it. This was an enjoyable passion-filled, but sweet Sci-Fi Romance. Even though it was short (wish it were longer), I still found it strong on plot and characters. I liked the world-building surrounding Rohan's alien race.
I will definitely be giving more books by this author a try.

Conquest by Rebecca York is a cute short story. Tells the tale of an earth vessel crash landing on a hostile world. The men become impotent due to the radiation. They are dieing out. They plan to befriend the natives and marry off earth women to the natives. This is a short love story between Elena and Rowan.

Very fast paced, wish there was more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I just wish there was a bit more. I really wanted to see the story develop further, I feel in love with the characters from the first chapter.

Good book! A short story, well developed. It's not a great example of description, different scenes, and so on. But it's interesting.

I truly enjoyed this very short story. I wish Rebecca York would write more in this story line. I would be one of the first to buy/read it.
