Around, Around, and Around they go. Where the blood stops?...Who knows?
A former red-head and present mother of three speaks from solitude from the bow of a yacht. No one knows her, or her life except her above all her oldest son, Jonathan Warren, a seventeen-year-old high school football star with a tight lock on his life and mysteries not even those closest to him could guess. When an accident nearly rips away his life, new classmate, neighbor, brunt of his abuse, and sole rescuer Lee Ann Johnson forces him to challenge everything he had ever been taught.
This is a short story and a prelude to "The Bleeding." Also includes a sample of the "The Bleeding," the first novel and second work in the Warren/Johnson/Bennett Series.

A very short story and the prelude to an audiobook I've received for review, so I thought I'd better start at the beginning. Consisting of only 50 pages, this had the potential to be a full blown novel. And that was also my problem with it. There was so much going on, so many characters being introduced, I felt terribly confused and overwhelmed. There was domestic violence, racial tension, a hate to love story, rape, a car accident, bullying, affairs etc, etc. I think there could be a really promising story here, and I'm hoping to find it in The Bleeding.
Max Stone’s August to Life was an intense powerful read. A daring escape from abuse. An attempt to start a new life. Stone’s drama was meaningful and packed with emotion. A powerful read finding beauty in the ordinary.
This could have bee a promising story, if a entire novel hasn't been jammed into a few pages (took me about an hour to read). Either you write a novel or you write a short story. Please make up your mind.
A short story contains a short time period, a few hours or couple of days. A novel can go from weeks to months. This story goes from one scene to the next within weeks already passing by. Sorry that is not how you write a short story, done right this has the poential of a fantastic novel. Way to short, scenes left out and weeks passing by between one scene and then the next; left me confused at times. It actually felt like a plot draft for a story, that will be written in the near future.
Please decide on one or two MC's. The MC's would switch from one paragraph to the next. Real confusing the italics, experience only from one of the MC's (I really don't know why??), then to suddenly stop.
Please show, don't tell. There is times when you decribe a scenery or a building, but in this this book everthing is told. Everything.
The author needs to take the time, write this story over, and in the actual length this story deserves.
I really enjoyed this story. It was incredibly gripping, and moved at an exciting pace. The Author created interesting characters, that you really cared about. The ending left you wanting more, and I for one cannot wait to read 'The Bleeding' I highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.
This was the first book by Max E Stone I have read & I very much enjoyed every twist and turn it had to offer. I admit I had to read the first couple of pages over because I was confused but after that I could not put the book down. I look forward to reading your next book The Bleeding
