First Tango In Paris

Librarian's Note: this is an alternate cover edition for ASIN: B00CXY0OLG.

First Tango In Paris is a compellingly erotic true-life memoir of Emma, a normal English housewife and mother, who in 1991 went on a last minute weekend break to Paris with her husband. They by chance discovered a whole different level of sexual gratification in the elegant Parisian swingers clubs, one that she pursued with vigour over the following years. This true and accurate account explicitly documents many of the outrageous sexual situations she participated in and experienced on her journey to complete sexual fulfillment. From teaching her French lovers 18 year old son the art of lovemaking through to complete abandonment at the hands of a team of French firefighters, and being the muse to an elderly retired, distinguished French Diplomat, who arranges many of her more scandalous sexual scenarios for her to act out. All the time, juggling her family life in West London with her decadent sexual life in France and beyond. She takes you on a roller-coaster ride of sex filled exploits

My name is Emma Styles. I am a married mother of two. I currently live between Kew, West London and Southern Spain. I have just completed my first book “First Tango In Paris”, which is a true-life account of my sexual experiences and adventures since stumbling into the very elegant but incredibly decadent and hedonistic Parisian swinging scene. The book documents intimately and often graphically many of the more salacious and debauched encounters over a ten-year period, whilst also portraying how I juggled the more predictable side of family/working life with my quest for even greater sexual escapades. Currently writing the conclusion, bringing it full circle, whilst working on a new series of four fictional novels in the “Bitch Boss” genre.

There are really only two reasons to read this book: you are into porn or you have an interest in the swingers scene (which I suppose mean you are almost certainly into porn anyway.) Neither of course apply to me, I read it purely for research reasons ! But there is actually a third reason to read the book, and what attracted me to it, and that is the concept. Just as we were intrigued that a normal essex housewife authored 50SOG, it's not every day someone writes their memoirs detailing their sexual adventures as a swinger. Like 50SOG, this book won't be getting any Pullitzer prizes, but I have a suspicion the author, Emma Styles, is going to do very well out of it. Unlike 50SOG, i did finish this book and although I speed read the second half, there were certainly times it hit the spot for me, and I expect will for most men. Which does make me wonder what market Ms Styles is after; men will read it because it is titilating, but men did not generally read 50SOG, which is essentially a romance. Will women lap it up, no pun intended?
Here's the 'story'. Emma is a hot 30ish married Surrey mum with, like her husband, one hell of a 7 year itch. They go to Paris, discover the paris swing scene, and embrace it for the next 10 years. Emma is taught how to turn on her 'G Spot', resulting in gushing orgasms of biblical proportions. Her ability to turn the water-works on almost at will - or with a little help from 'amyl nitrate poppers' - whatever those are -makes her something of a celebrity amongst the Parisian libertine crowd, and men and women are, literally, lining up to take a shower. She is befriended by a retired military officer, Yves, who becomes her patron and sets up many of Emma's most erotic adventures, when she is not setting them up herself. Alongside all the shenanigans, Emma builds up a thriving business selling outfits, toys and accessories for swingers and the sexually liberated generally. Her timing, as with her orgasms, is perfect, as the internet comes along at just the right moment, and with the help of geeky web designer Jon, develops a successful online business which she ultimately sells. Talking of Jon, he was one of my biggest worries as I read the book. As everyone else did somersaults from the chandelier while blindfolded and naked, it was looking like we were going to get through 300+ pages without poor old Jon getting laid. Thankfully Emma rode (couldn't resist that) to the rescue at the 11th hour and did the business, and in two shakes of a cat o' nine tails Jon is a fully fledged swinger, along with his beautiful red headed girlfriend. Now, i ask you, who's going to believe that, a geeky nerd with a beautiful girlfriend !
The book reads like Ms styles crashed it out in 3 months, ran an auto spell-check, and uploaded it. But maybe that all adds to the seeming authenticity of the whole project, and it's a very easy read that you can zip through. Be aware if you are strait laced and also a literary purist, as well as coping with gushing orgasms you will need to cope with gushing superlatives on every page. Good news though, no need to dwell on the naughty bits, there's always more on the next page click. There's something very unpretentious about the whole book; strangely, it's graphic without being distasteful (to me at least), and there's plenty of natural humour. All in all Ms Styles tells her story with aplomb, and comes across as the girl next door, (or the girl you wish was next door.) Which I suppose is essential to the concept. Is it the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth as Ms Styles would have us believe? Well, no of course. In the book, this 'erotic memoir', everything and everyone is beautiful, which if that is the glasses through which Ms Styles sees the world, or wants to report it, good for her. But in the real world of casual sex and carefree living there are STD's, people get physically and emotionally hurt, and relationships are often destroyed. (But we don't read porn to be told that, now do we?)
Everyday sex at home may seem pretty tame after reading this (sorry, will seem pretty tame), but if you read it with your partner it might be a great way to improve it. Anyway, if you like porn or are intrigued by Ms Styles' concept, give First Tango in Paris a whirl, you may have lots more fun than you expect. As porn goes, I give it 4 stars.

FIRST TANGO IN PARIS is a real-life, sexual adventure into the swingers’ lifestyle that spans over a 10-year period. So, as long as you know what you are getting into, you should have a pleasurable experience.

As a female who leaves the kink and partner swapping strictly to the pages of my erotic novels, I am always intrigued by the real life characters who actually live it and make it work.

Author, Emma Styles, gives the reader an interesting and sometimes outrageous account of her life as part of a swinging couple as well as how she balances her decadent sexual life with her family and business life.

If you are looking to find out more about how the naughty-half live, then FIRST TANGO IN PARIS should do the trick! If you enjoy this read, then be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the sequel (publication date yet to be announced) that will cover her life as a swinging housewife in the nineties.

3.5 stars. An entertaining read--the author has certainly lived quite an interesting and adventurous life! I would have enjoyed this more if the story had been told in a different manner. As it is, it's essentially just someone sitting down and telling you about their adventures. While certainly not dull, the stories don't always come to life, and many of the characters in them start to blend together because you get little sense of who they are beyond their sex lives. I also would have loved more insight into Emma and Paul's marriage -- how is it that they never seemed to get jealous? And they seemed to be utterly unworried about picking up an STI in the midst of all this. Did the thought never cross their minds?

All that said, there are lots of great visuals that spark the imagination, and what could have been a dull recitation is certainly lively and made me smile more than once.

If you ususally read some chaste and pure Harlequin's romances, beware you may have a heart attack while reading Emma's adventures. Lol!

Very well written, this story is the testimony of a woman who fully accepts and assume her sexuality. Her journey is explicitly told. So, this novel is not to put in everyone's hands and is reserved to an informed public. One who will be eager to read the text with an open mind and will not be to prompt to judge but appreciated the quality of style, the tone and the cojones it takes to draft such a testimony.

For my part, even after having read many erotic romances, I admit I had my lower jaw that was taken down repeatedly!
If the author assume her rather bold and intense scenes descriptions, they could easily offend sensitive souls as the language is raw and direct. At the same time, it fits perfectly Emma's style who takes pleasure in revealing herself through the pages by telling her story without mask and taboo.

But in fiction, you can always put some distance between you and the characters or events, since it is an invention coming straight out of the imagination of a writer. There, Emma has the courage to put her life on paper. And it's a huge difference to keep in mind while reading.

Then, it is always very difficult to give an opinion and write a review on a story when you know it really existed. So, if I have found that there was sometimes too much sexual details told or if I wanted to know more about Thierry, Yves or the charming duo formed by Michel and Frederic, I found myself in an awkward position... Because, there is nothing fictional. These are real people. So, I had the feeling of sitting in the chair of a voyeur or to be indiscreet.
For my own peace of mind, I would have preferred the same story with the barrier of a fiction.

Despite some moments that put me out of my comfort zone, I had a good time reading Emma's journey.
As a Parisian, inevitably, the details of the places visited by Emma and Paul were having a much more reasoning echo. I'm not talking about the clubs because, believe me, Emma is much better informed than me on Paris night life!

However, I enjoyed visiting Paris and London suburbs, with precision and accuracy, through the eyes of this young woman. I also appreciated the richness of her encounters made over the years, well described. Some of the people she met were exotic, some others I would have like to meet myself to chat.

Beyond the sexual experiences, it's the story of a woman who discovered herself. While being a loving wife and a caring mother, she took on the role of adventurer, entrepreneur. It is this mixture of facets given away with honesty by Emma that captived me.

An interesting, shocking, exotic, exciting and story full of surprises.

This is the story of a decade of sexual discovery by the author, Emma Styles. At the very start of the book she is a fairly innocent wife and mother, but very quickly she and her husband find their lives transformed by a trip to the sex shops and elegant sex clubs of Paris.

The reader gets to soak up the juicy details of Emma’s many adventures in different, fascinating clubs, mostly in Paris. She fraternises with the great and the good of France – TV stars, sports people and even a retired diplomat, who she develops a particularly close relationship with. Under his sponsorship, for want of a better word, several of her most deeply held desires are satisfied – including one memorable session with a group of heroic firefighters. Apart from anything else, you have to admire Emma’s stamina – and her power of recall. There must be at least 30 separate stories in here and Emma remembers them all with admirable accuracy.

So, everything moves along very quickly, with plenty of scalding, unusual and frank sexual tales to keep the reader more than interested. But of course, we can’t be totally gushing in our praise - the fact is that there are quite a few simple errors here – spelling mistakes, the wrong use of words – that could easily have been eliminated by an editor.

The problem with a memoir, of course, is that you are limited to the truth, and the fact is that in Emma’s world everyone is relaxed, experienced and expert, so there’s very little light and shade: apart from very early on, there’s no suspense, jeopardy or hint of danger. There’s never even any slight sense of envy between her and her husband, which might have provided some kind of intrigue.

There’s little Emma can do about that, however. She’s reporting what happened and while we might want something deeper at times, what we do have is a lot of eye-opening sex and an extraordinary woman who does, without doubt, become sexily more confident in her own prowess over the course of the book, which does make her an intoxicating presence. It’s very easy to be taken along for her filthy ride.

I was intrigued by this autobiographical territory. As a writer I read a lot of diverse genres. Erotica is one that is more difficult to write than most would believe. This book was different. It was a true story. A recollection of ten years of experimentation and pushing to new boundaries. What I found in these pages was a reality much more rich in erotic behavior than any fictional erotica I have read. Following Emma through her happenstance introduction to a different world operating in the heart of Paris as she nervously touched her toes in the waters to listening to her describe her full immersion was captivating. As she pushed the edges of her own sexuality with each encounter, she maintained her marriage (her husband fully supported her athleticism) and her obligations as a daughter and mother. Indeed, I would have liked to hear a little more about how her mind shifted between those worlds, but this isn't a psychological analysis. It is a history. What surprised me was the level of intensity that her explorations reached. She was clearly shy and a bit intimidated at first, but seemed to have found exactly the right people and venues to support her experimentation in safety and with respect. There was nothing sleazy about her activities, unless sleaze is what she wanted during that engagement. She was also lucky to have a partner who shared her desires and was engaged in hearing of her exploits. Indeed, their relationship between the sheets intensified as her exploits escalated.

All in all it was an eye opening read. There is an entire world out there that I only felt hints of, but never fully realized. The writing was good and the pace was consistent. Emma had a lot of territory to cover in the pages and I am sure that there were more experiences that were not detailed. Her writing voice is pleasant and she treats her associates and the environment they shared with great respect and admiration. I hope in her next book she gives us a little more reflection of her beyond her ample appetite. I enjoyed the read and the view of a different world.

Well. Where do I begin? Ms Styles memoir is so deliciously...indecently...fascinatingly...frank.

To truly read and enjoy this work one must approach it with a completely open mind and if you are in any way prudish then this book is definitely not for you.

This is a first hand account of a wife and mother as she is drawn into the sublimely hedonistic lifestyle of swinging and covers the years roughly 1990 to 2000. Stylish, beautifully detailed prose takes you effortlessly around the clubs and venues of Paris and London. Her words breath life into the exotic and privileged world of French high society that she joins with increasingly enthusiastic gusto.
Elegant. Sensual. Sexual. Ms Styles pulls no punches in her elaborate descriptions of her forays into the orgiastic world of no strings sex with like minded men and women. Sex parties to casual individual encounters; all are candidly and entertainingly related in intimate graphic detail.

Counterpointing the profuse debauchery is her other life as a wife, mother, business woman and entrepreneur and her affection for the key people in both worlds is readily apparent.

Her stylish account is mesmerizing and compelling; it draws you in, making the reader feel as if they are an invisible voyeuristic companion and conspirator, watching and experiencing every moment of her awakening. As each encounter finishes the reader is left thinking what more could possibly happen? And then it does. I won't serve spoilers, the book's description gives enough away to tempt, tease and provoke. This is an honest, uninhibited, recollection of erotically charged events that simply just demands to be read. And then reread. There are few books that I know I will return to. This is one of them.

And a second volume is promised.

There is no doubt that some of the sex in this book is erotic but after half way it just gets repetitive and messy. The author seems to take great pleasure in telling us how she experiences a g spot orgasm every time with lots of squirting and gushing, I got turned off by this. It would have benefited from a good proof reader because it is littered with spelling, grammar and punctuation errors and I have to admit I didn't warm to the author, everything in her life was so amazing and fantastic and she constantly writes about being lavished with expensive gifts and treated like swinging royalty but I found her to be a tad cold. However... I did enjoy reading about all the delicious French food she sampled but then I'm a foodie.

If you are curious about the swinging scene and enjoy reading m/f/m or f/f/m and group sex then give this a try, it is very explicit and would certainly work it's magic if you wanted to read this book with your significant other.

An intertesting read following the authors sexual adventures in Paris ove a ten year period. Her experiences of various risque clubs, her foray into web marketing with her french compatriots who have developes various lines of erotic lingerie and her association with various characters both in France and the UK. A very erotic read that takes us into an underground that encompasses her visits to places that few of us will ever venture into. If you want something different that will pique your curiousity, and you like a hot sexy read give it a try. First Tango In Paris by Emma Styles

This was incredibly hot! Memoirs aren't normally my thing, but Emma asked me to read it and I'm glad I did. I was warned it isn't for the feint hearted and I whole-heartedly agree. But it's an incredible recollection of some of the sexiest, steamiest and most erotic scenes I've ever read, and should no doubt be read by people wanting to experiment, and I think this will be helping a fair few couples ignite their sex lives! The fact that it's written from experience shows its both healthy and accessible and was a fabulous insight into the world of swinging and general debauchery. It gets three stars for bringing me to the point where I thought I'd combust.

If I were to rate this book purely in terms of literary competence, I'd probably consider it no more than okay. It's not an achievement in terms of style and language, there are avoidable grammatical errors etc.

What renders it well above average, however, is the scenario and the agency: "Emma Styles" is a self-confident woman who owns her sexuality instead of sticking to traditional gender roles, and this factor renders her adventures in the Parisian swinger scene WAY better than what meets the eye.

Other than that, okay I guess!
