My passion is writing! What could be more delicious than inventing new characters and seeing where they take you?

I am blessed to live in Indiana, a state I share with many Amish communities. (I find the best spices, hot cereal, and good cooking advice at an Amish store not too far away.)

I've lived in Honduras, Grand Cayman, and Costa Rica. One of my favorite activities is exploring other cultures. My husband, Paul, and I have two grown children and five precious grandchildren. I love to hole up in our lake cabin and write -- often with a batch of popcorn nearby. (Oh, and did I mention dark chocolate?) And I can often be found walking the beaches of Costa Rica.

I enjoy getting to know my readers, so feel free to write me at: contact@brendamaxfield.com. Join my Newsletter Gang and get the latest news about releases: http://ticahousepublishing.subscribem.... Please visit to learn about all my books! Happy Reading!

Cornered is not your typical YA book. Sure, there is romance and your typical teen issues, but Courtney is also not your typical teen. Her mom is sick with fibromyalgia , her dad is gone, her sister is rebelling and she's left to run the entire show on her own.

Add to that the usual confusion for a teen just trying to find her way in the world and you've got a tale that will be tugging at your heart strings whether you're at the same point in your life as Courtney, have a daughter approaching that life stage, or just looking back at your own teenage years.

This story resonated with me particularly because as a teen I went through something similar--my dad was sick with something very similar to fibromyalgia and as a teen who was the oldest of the kids and remembered my dad as the strong, supporter of the family, I felt as if I had the weight of the world on my shoulder. Cornered brought me back to those days.

The writing is well-paced and drew me in, the characters were very real, the issues were nothing over the top and believable. All-in-all a solid story. The beginning was a little slow but once I got past the first couple pages I couldn't put it down.

I'm giving Cornered 4 out of 5 stars.

Cornered Cornered by Brenda Maxfield it was a great reading, a meaningful and touching story.Courtney is a sensitive teen who take on responsIbilities for her mother who suffer of fibromyalgia, a rebel sister and her little brother Denny. She had to run the household, she never had the chance to be just a kid and she knows that without her the family will fall apart. She put herself a too much weight on her shoulders and that makes her want to escape from home and follow her dreams about going to university and take care of her own life. She is cornered between her duties and her dreams, the family values and looking after herself. She hates that, but she does what she has to do.
With this book Brenda makes all parents to reevaluate their children characters and ask themselves questions about when is the right time to transfer responsIbilities and how is better to deal with "the next generation".
I recommend this book to young adults and to parents as well and I am curious to follow Courtney on the next book of the series,Seeking Christmas.

This book was a great story about a teenage girl who has to grow up way to fast. Brenda Maxfield developed the characters in a way that you truly understood where they were coming from and felt their pain. The book ended way to soon and I need more! This would be a great book for a teenager and older!
