Be prepared for your little learners to fall in love with an adorable little starfish from an underwater world, named Hugo, enjoying a sea adventure and sharing his lessons to learn on feelings and emotions while on The Island of Respect. Our resident two year-old toddler thinks that Hugo the Happy Starfish Magic Words is one fun story! He and I both know the story so well that there is little need to even read the words to the story. Hugo the Happy Starfish began his adventure by behaving a little rudely and unfriendly to his friends Charisma and Gogo and some of the other adorable marine life characters encountered along the way.
With the assistance of Hugo the Happy Starfish and his ocean friends, Suzy Liebermann creatively incorporates character education into this delightful children's book that will teach the importance of respect, being polite, the use of the magic words- please and thank you and other first life lessons on being polite.

I've been very lucky to review many of Suzy Liebermann's Hugo The Happy Starfish children's books. Her Island Adventure books prove many important life lessons for children Most importantly those of appreciation, patience, tolerance and optimism.
Hugo learns a very powerful lesson in Hugo the Happy Starfish: Magic Words - The Island of Respect. Imagine a place where using respect and manners goes further than money! Hugo also finds out the importance of treating others the way he wants to be treated. Hugo quickly realizes that if he doesn't change his attitude and quickly at that -- he will find himself all alone with no friends.
I've really enjoyed introducing my children to Hugo as he goes on his journey through the ocean learning life's most important lessons. I find that Ms. Lieberman is able to take very mature topics and word them with ease for children. The Hugo series is wonderful for preschoolers and self-readers.
After reading the stories, you and your children can work together on some games and worksheets that are free to download.

Lil Hugo is one of my favorites to read to my grandchildren and I'm going on 10 so I think I know what I'm talking about. I had four children myself, and use to sing to them & when I had time I read to them, but that wasn't always the case for a single mom. These type of books are wonderful because it's colorful and always moving, something is always happening to where they can't wait until I turn the page. Hugo gets in a pickle because he was acting so not nice and rude and then someone helped him out and he found those wonderful magic words PLEASE & THANK YOU! My Dad was heavy on those words, and also "Yes,sir" and "No, sir" (just ask my daughter). I love it when a book that the children like also has a hidden wonderful lesson to make our little people grow up to be nice people. Great job Ms. Liebermann, please more, more, more!
