The initial situation is suboptimal.
He hated this—the sensation of disloyalty to his boyfriend, being in a relationship and feeling lonelier than when he was single, being lost at twenty-five when, a few months before, he thought he had everything he needed to be happy. 🥺
And Dylan is not ready for anything more than fun.
He considered himself a romantic fucker. Loved having someone to take care of, someone he could spoil to death, and wake up beside every day. Yet he couldn’t help being cynical about society’s whole concept of a fairytale happily ever after, where everything is rainbows and butterflies. 🦋🥺🦋
But the friendship and attraction between Jared and Dylan is too strong.
He really looks like a lost puppy sometimes. I want to squeeze the shit out of him until he can’t breathe. 🤗
“What if I don’t care about tomorrow? What if I just wanna do whatever I want without thinking about the consequences? What if I want you to be a mistake?” 🤩
It's nice and funny at times.

This novella was a complete change to L's heavy hitting angsty romance and it was a great palette cleanser. It was fresh and beautiful and I really liked it. The writing flowed well and I truly felt connected to the characters and their emotions. It had a depth to it that a lot of novellas miss, and L nails it perfectly. Overall I absolutely loved it and can't wait for more from this author!

I was promised a short low stakes MM romance featuring video games and “very unique sex toys.” It technically delivered on most of those fronts, but the humor was just not for me and that is OK.
In a spicey novella I should probably be highlighting spice, but the only things I highlighted were the cringey lines that made me laugh at the book not with it.
I can absolutely understand how others would enjoy this. It is a short read with low-angst and a fun premise. Two video game programmers that work together grow from friends to lovers all within 140ish pages.
I’m not sure I would have finished this if I had not been promised a “weird sex toy” because the need to satisfy my curiosity is what kept me turning the pages. Unfortunately, I was a little let down because I felt like it should have been obvious what the toy was going to be and I am mad at myself for not seeing that coming…tehe. It was very fitting for the book. The appropriate amount of ridiculous that goes right with this story.
*slight spoiler* It is the only content warning listed for the book so I went in knowing it was coming, but I did not love how the cheating trope was implemented.
I know a lot of people hate that trope, but it is not always a deal breaker for me in fiction depending on how it is used. However, I felt like it added nothing to this story and was kind of hypocritical. I would maybe understand it more if the characters were more fleshed out in a full-length novel in order to give them depth, development & flaws but it provided very little for this novella.

Somehow I am disappointed. I really was looking forward to this novella, and it started great, but...

This was a really cute, fun, sexy novella. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but my friend had read and recommended so thought I’d give this new-to-me author a try. I really enjoyed this story and absolutely want to read some of this author’s others books which I think are usually darker than this book was.

Game Changer is a fun, low-angst friends-to-lovers romance between Dylan and Jared. Things are complicated due to Jared being in a long-term relationship and their feelings for one another are too strong to resist. After a significant amount of reflection and time, both Dyaln and Jared reached an understanding and they are so darn cute together that I could not get enough. Such a fun story that is full of sweet and endearing moments where these two are allowed to just be perfectly at ease with one another.

Who knew L.A. Cannon could write such a sweet, low-angst story? This novella was exactly what I needed after several darker reads. It was the perfect palate cleanser.
I loved that in only 135 pages Dylan and Jared's story was so well detailed and fleshed out. It's not always that easy to accomplish in so few words. It really helped that they had such a strong connection right from the start and that they were friends and colleagues. The friendship between these two was so precious and I really felt it was something they wanted to preserve at all costs. I loved how Dylan was there for Jared in the difficult times he was going through. Nothing was rushed. The slow progression of the story really highlighted how their relationship was one of a kind. They really felt like soul mates.
The chemistry between Dylan and Jared was all consuming and so natural. They were definitely made for each other. L.A. Cannon always bring the heat. She kept us waiting for almost half the story, but when the spice hit, it was with a big explosion. These guys were really hot together! 🥵 Loved, loved, loved their very creative use of sex toys.
I really enjoyed this short read that has so much heart. I still wish we could have more time with them. I don’t think we could never get enough of their cuteness!

Jared and Dylan are so precious!
I absolutely love both of their personalities, they’re so unique in their own ways and their friendship is end game.
I loved the storyline and the pacing, it never felt rushed.
My only complaint? It ended! I did not want to say goodbye to those guys, and the bonus chapter was amazing.
I need to dive back into MM after these two, I’ll definitely be rereading this one and cherishing these two always.

December 16, 2023I’m not a huge fan of pop culture references and trendy internet slang in books (e.g. a character being described as looking “delulu” due to his expression). It took me out of the story because a lot of that went over my head 🤷🏼♀️ I’m old I guess.

What a sweet and beautiful novella! I loved it, it was my type of low angst story and I truly enjoyed it.
Despite being a short story, their relationship was slow burn and I loved that.
Dyland and Jared were co-workers and also friends. The age gap was nothing between them because they got along so well. There was something going on between them but Jared had a boyfriend so they didn't act on it. Then Jared's life got broken into pieces and Dyland offered to let him stay at his house. That's when sparks flew and the attraction was let free.
This book was amazing, the author did a marvellous job with the MCs. Dyland and Jared shared such a lovely friendship and their connection was so well described that I could feel it through the pages. This was short but there were many sweet moments between the MCs and it was touching to see how Dyland gave Jared the time the latter needed to recover from the emotional chaos he went through. Game Changer is a super sweet, low angst, perfect friends to lovers novella … with good spice that makes you wish it was a full size, hefty book.
I really don’t know which main character was cooler in this story: winter sports jock, tattoo artist Dylan or young and sweet Jared. Coworkers, different in personality, their mutual passion for gaming brought them together and their easy demeanor kept them as good friends. Dylan is straight … or so Jared thinks. But when their chemistry becomes too strong to deny, it turns out Dylan is very much playing for all kinds of teams. When fate throws a grenade into Jared’s life, Dylan is there to offer the help he needs. These two were just perfect for each other, they knew exactly how to make each other crave. Gosh, the nicknames, the dirty talk, and their sexual dynamics were perfection! And the way they took care of each other? Swoon! Yes, we needed another few hundred pages of them just having fun (filthy and otherwise)! The bonus chapter that comes with Game Changer helped a bit, it’s the best ending for these two lovable characters.

I really don’t know which main character was cooler in this story: winter sports jock, tattoo artist Dylan or young and sweet Jared. Yes, we needed another few hundred pages of them just having fun (filthy and otherwise)! The bonus chapter that comes with Game Changer helped a bit, it’s the best ending for these two lovable characters.

Sweet and cute novella about two geeks who cannot fight their attraction for each other 😍

Es un libro que avanza rápido, es corto y muy sencillo de leer, pero es una historia que pasa sin pena ni gloria, no es memorable, y seguramente mañana ni me acuerde de ella.
Apenas la terminé y siento que en poco tiempo olvidaré el nombre de los personajes. La historia de romance siento que se desarrolla muy rápido y no la sentí creíble, más allá de la tensión sexual.

For those looking for a quick read that is full of all the emotions and feels you could expect in a full length romance novel. This is your baby! Such a well written story of two friends that found love when they least expected it. These men are so adorable that I wish I could hug them in real life. Loved it and looking forward to reading more of this talented author’s work. Gracias LA Cannon!

I have to be honest - there is one part in this story that got me like …👀 - I let it slide because not everything has to be the way I see or want things to be - I read for the purpose of getting other perspectives and truths. But boo - you wanted honesty, give it yourself - that is just my motto.
This was very endearing and fun - “baby boy” was delivered…🧎🏻♀️. thank you all that’s holy.
Definitely a light pallet cleanser.

If you like low-angst with great banter and workplace shenanigans, this is the perfect novella for in between heavier reads, or any time really! (PS. When the author says unique sexy time toys, she's not fibbing 😂)

Perfect
This is probably the most well rounded novella I have ever read. It certainly doesn’t read like a novella, sometimes you read one and it’s choppy or rushed or ends suddenly. This one is perfect.
Story wise I thought it was great. It’s pretty low angst. There’s very mild cheating but not between MCs. I would call this friends to lovers which is always my favorite, friends with benefits which is yummy, and a dominant bottom which I don’t see too many of and is actually my favorite.

I had such a great time with these two! While this is a different style for the author - usually she writes angsty af stories - it’s still her spice and characterization and I was so here for it. Dylan and Jared are coworkers and friends, and while they’re very different, there’s a palpable connection from the start. Despite the short length, the development of their attraction and feelings for one another is illustrated perfectly. This has a small dash of cheating trope (not between MCs), some forced proximity, and a bit of black cat x golden retriever. And the spice be spicing!
The sexy scenes are creative, well-spaced, and hot as hell. I was promised a dominant power bottom, and I was not disappointed! Dylan and Jared are natural together and their tension bubbled over in such a delicious way. Top tier flirting, y’all. I don’t always fare well with low angst but there was enough going on here to keep me hooked. There’s a little push and pull, a splash of jealousy, and a pinch of possessiveness. If you’re looking for a spicy, sweet, non-Christmas novella, pick this one up!

Gamer Changer is a sweet and spicy novella that takes place around the winter holidays but it is definitely not a Christmas novella. It's the story of two programmer co-workers whose attraction to each other is undeniable, and then something happens and Jared ends up rooming with Dylan.
I do really enjoy some forced proximity, especially when there’s a little cheating trope involved too.
I thought these two were really well paired with Dylan being the bad boy with his motorcycle and tattooing on the side and Jared with his nerdy, quiet but cocky self.
I think LA Cannon did a fantastic job at balancing story, spice and the length of the novella. It got quite sweet at the end but I thought it ended their story well.
I also just really loved the chapter titles.
If you enjoy these tropes, then I absolutely recommend you give Game Changer a try:

This steamy short novella was different than what I've read from L.A. Cannon before. Just like Of Chords and Dreams, I loved every minute of it!
Another kind of opposites attract (at least in looks), and I'm living for this lately. I'm loving the big, tattooed hunk of man like Dylan throwing Jared around a bit. Even though I loved Jared taking control, too!
