*I received this book on a R4R basis. Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of her book.*
Wow! This is a beautiful book which rolls everything you could ever want into one. Packed full of action, suspense, drama and let's not forget plenty of romance. Naked Edge has filled a gap in the New Adult genre we didn't even know existed. As much as I enjoyed this book particularly the ending I did find it a little slow in the middle which made it difficult for the reader to connect to the story. Despite the slow middle section the author quickly regained the readers attention as we begin to discover the characters backgrounds. This is a fantastic book filled with drama and heartache that does exactly what it's says on the tin. Sadly I couldn't give this novel a full five star rating due to a few things which frustrated me during the course of the book. Although these small things lowered my rating I really enjoyed this book specifically the unique plot the author has seamlessly woven together.
Just when her life seems perfect Skylar was abruptly uplifted from her life and forced into witness protection causing her to leave behind the only man she has ever loved. Finally arriving home to be with the man she loves will be a lot harder than Skylar originally thought. Rowdy is not the same sweet boy she left behind but Skylar is determined to break down the walls he has built around his heart. Although I thoroughly enjoyed this novel I did feel it was slightly slow in the middle and it was difficult to concentrate when reading. Despite this once they read past these few chapters the reader is in for an exciting, heart racing ride and will very quickly find themselves hooked to this fantastic book. The main reason I was unable to give this book 5 stars is due liked to have gained more details on the characters lives when Skylar left. For example during the novel the reader finds out the gruelling circumstances behind Rowdy's mothers death. Although this added to the plot as soon as the reader discovers the cause of the mothers death it was straight away forgotten about. As the reader I would have liked more details about Rowdy's mothers death as I felt it may have added to the story and helped build the readers sympathy for Rowdy. Regardless of this the brilliant ending of this novel made up for all the small issues during the book. Charli Webb has an amazing gift of making a story come together. She kept the reader on the edge of their seats as the drama began to take its part in this brilliant book. The unexpected problems that arise for Skylar and Rowdy just when they seem to be getting their relationship back on track keeps the reader hooked right up until the explosive, suspense filled conclusion.
As well as creating a fantastic plot the author has also managed to develop unforgettable characters. Even though Skylar comes across as a bit naive in the first chapter she grows on you as the reader when you begin to discover her story and the large amount of love she holds for Rowdy. Once you learn more about her it is very easy to understand her and also to connect with her. Rowdy is another brilliant, well developed character. He is far from the caring boy Skylar remembers. Struggling to cope with both the loss of his mum and the love of his life, Rowdy turns to women and alcohol to cope, building walls around himself and keeping people at a distance. Rowdy was an extremely likeable character as when Skylar slowly breaks down his defences the reader begins to see his caring side and the all consuming love he feels for Skylar. He will do anything to protect Skylar which made it very clear how much he loved her. He was caring, protective, sweet and let's not forget sexy which overall made for a great character in a great book.
Overall 'Naked Edge' was a brilliant book which keeps the reader up all night desperate to see what will happen. Charli Webb is a fantastic author and I can't wait to see what she does next. I would definitely recommend people give this book a try especially if you are looking for a bit of romance.
BOOK BLURB: Skylar's family was forced into the witness protection program when she was only seventeen. After her mother died years later, Sky moved back in with the only family she had left. She knew she'd run into her high school sweetheart but she didn't expect the changes she found in Rowdy. He wasn't the sweet boy she left so many years ago. He'd turned into a womanizing jerk but that didn't stop her heart from wanting him.
REVIEW: I found “Naked Edge” to be a bit of a helter-skelter storyline. The timing seemed a little off and unexplained. An overload of craziness called for some balance in the foundation and framework. Readers get the story from both main character’s points of view and it does end on a happy ever after.
An assorted variety of characters appeared. They ranged from rich to poor, college students to unemployed, some driving expensive automobiles and others riding bicycles or old barely working vehicles. But for some reason, even the poor could pay hospital bills without any insurance benefits. The story didn’t ring true or very realistic to me.
I thought the background story leading to Skylar being in witness protection program was under-developed. It seemed to be missing some essential elements. And then the story moved to the death of Boone’s parents and once again I felt a little lost in its purpose. Finally, there’s the death of Rowdy’s mother who supposedly was killed by Anna’s dad that I found completely lacking in development. The big secrets being held close to the chest were a bit weak and unfounded in my opinion and they were never completely explained or resolved. There were a lot of missing elements that could have tied the story together for a much stronger resolution.
Another problematic area for was with Anna, who is Rowdy’s step-sister and one very delusional and cray-cray female. The girl seemed to have an amazing ability to control so many people’s lives. It shocked me that she hadn’t been taken down and relieved of her powers long before the current crisis by all the young hotties surrounding her. She seemed to have played her crazy card more than once or twice and had not been very nice about it. And why in the heck did Rowdy put up with her for so long? He could have knocked the wind out of her sails with some heavy conversation and a complete turnoff. Too many things didn’t jive for me.
I have hopes that the purple-haired Cherri gets some additional story time in the next book. She made more sense than any of the others. I liked her easy going and helpful attitude. She really could have been a thorn in the side of Rowdy but she ended up being a friend to one and all. I certainly would like to know more about her – and even see her get a happily ever after with Wade maybe.
The romance between Rowdy and Skylar certainly carried some heat. But here again, it just seemed to be too cut and dried. I think there should have been a lot more ‘splaining going on and less bedroom theatrics before this relationship was glued back together so quickly. A couple of spoken words and these two are back in the saddle again. My preference would have been for a little more dialogue and less emphasis placed on Rowdy’s penis or Skylar’s hidden birthmark that really didn’t have much purpose in this story at all.
With so many diversions in this storyline, it’s hard to say much without giving up spoilers so I’m going to leave it and let you draw your own conclusion. Overall, I’m always a sucker for a second chance at love trope. This one had its ups and downs – strengths and weaknesses – good and bad – for a middle of the road read for me.
*I was given a copy by the author for an honest review.*
Hubba-Hubba-Hubba Look at that cover ladies! This book was yummy. That Rowdy sure is a one woman's man and I loved him for it. For all the bad boy attitude he was a great guy and an awesome friend. And I feel so much pain for what he has been through. He came out tougher and a survivor and I really appreciate that about him.
I liked how Sky was so direct and went for what she wanted without letting BS get in her way. If you think about it their relationship was put through so much tension I'm amazed they didn't come out half crazy. What is real though is that they are crazy for each other and nothing and nobody can deny that.
The villain of the story, that delusional insane person Anne was perfect for the role. I can't believe someone could go to such lengths to be with somebody that doesn't even have an ounce of love to give back. Delusional is a mild word to say but I'm trying to keep it PG-13.
I loved the side characters. Wade and Cherri are awesome and I can't wait to read more about them in this series. I think they're perfect for one another. Derek was a hoot and I definitely want to know more about him. Boone is the perfect cousin and friend and he deserves to be happy so I hope that in the future books he will have somebody just for him.
Thank you for this opportunity to read the book and can't wait for more from you Ms. Webb. Especially that Costa Rica spring break.
First of all I'd like to than the author for gifting me a copy to read for an honest review. I initially thought I'd read a chapter before going to bed at 11:30 last night. The next thing I know it's 1:30 in the morning and I'm finishing the book.
I've never read anything by Charli Webb before and I liked the first 60% of the book. I was reading quickly and really rooting for Skylar and Rowdy. Both of them had experienced a lot in their years apart. It wasn't until there was a turn of events that made me feel as if the last 40% was drawn out.
I was left with some questions especially how it was Skylar was struggling so much when she was wealthy before she left town and why Boone allowed himself to be blackmailed. I read that this is the first book featuring Skylar and Rowdy as well as their friends, so perhaps I'll find out the answer to that question and others in subsequent books.
Ok so I was sent this book to read and review honostly. When reading the description I thought "ok yea this will be ok." I mean I love to read love stories. Yes they do tend to blend a little and sometimes it feels as though you are reading the same book over and over again and it gets a little old at times but I cant help myself. Call me a hopeless romantic:) Ok to start off I have to say that I am so very glad that I got to read Naked Edge. It seriously took me no time at all because i was so stuck in this book! Cover to cover obsessed! lol. The characters in this book are so realistic that you can actually relate to them on a certain level and find yourself forgetting that you are just reading a book. I swear there were so many emotions running through me at all times I was completely lost. So the characters.. Rowdy! YES PLEASE!! He is so freaking hot. You cant help but hurt for all that he has been through but still you get mad at the way he acts towards Sky at the beginning. Still he doesnt know why she left so you cant blame him really. In the time that Sky was gone he waited and hoped that she would come back and finally realizing that she wasnt coming back broke him. That's when he changed..not for the better but into what he needed to be to move past her..past what they were. Skylar comes back after 4 years of being gone to find that the sweet boy she fell in love with was no longer there, and in his place was a very confident and hard hearted man. She came back for just him though so she doesnt let that set her off her coarse of winning back his heart. After she finally tells him the reason she had to leave it all comes together for them and they decide that they can make it work and actually get to be together. So they thought anyways!! Ok before I start my rant on how crazy people are I just want to say that the supporting characters in this book are awesome. You actually get to know them all which doesnt happen alot due to the fact that you really dont want to take anything away from the main characters. Well not in this case because I think it only adds to how great this book is. So on that note I'll say that I will not give away any spoilers but what they go through literally had me holding my breath, cussing and wanting to fight to get them out of it!!! I became so involved with Skylar and Rowdeys happiness that I really wanted to kill...lol. Yes it was that crazy!! Like most of the time though things happen the way they should. I do wish it would've gone a little more into the future for them but I have to say that I am happy with the way things ended. Hopefully the author will get a wild hair and decide to make this a series:) I would love to read more! So I have to say that if you love romance, action and hold your breath drama this is a great book for you!
3.5 Stars for this New Adult Contemporary romance. I love Colorado. One of my uncles moved there decades ago, and since then I've visited many times. It's lush beautiful place (once you get past the Front Range into the mountainous terrain!) I've read a few books settled there for that reason alone. In fact the opening scene reminded me of Simone Elkeles' Chain Reaction--what with the rock climbing and the injury--but that's where the similarity ended.
Skylar is hoping for a second chance. At sixteen she was whisked away from the love of her life due to unforeseen, uncontrollable events. Her step-father enrolled into the witness protection program and took Skylar and her mother underground with him. But that was four years ago and much has happened. Mom's dead, and Sky has no allegiance to her philandering step-daddy. She's going to fight for her love, Rowdy, and win back the life she lost when she disappeared without a trace.
Rowdy had been head over heels for Sky--throughout their childhood they were smitten. She was his first, and he promised to love her, only her, for all time. Then, she was gone.
His own personal tragedies delayed his search, but he soon discovered that Sky was lost forever. Until the call brought him to the cliff face where Sky and her cousin Boone dangled due to a poorly planned climb.
Now Rowdy's love-'em-and-leave-'em-to-hide-his-pain activity is brought to light, and he's unwilling to invest his heart to Sky again. Or, is he...
So, as far as this book went, it's a super quick read. I had thought we'd face more of a battle between Sky and Rowdy, but they both come to terms with each other eagerly. A big conflict to be resolved, however, is the entry of Rowdy's step-sister, Anna, into the mix. She's obsessed with Rowdy, though no one noticed it before Sky returned. Her psychopathic activity leaves Skylar fighting for her life and turns their mutual friends into a cloak-and-dagger society. This seemed a bit extreme, for me, but Rowdy's one of those loyal sort--doesn't want to hurt anyone openly--which I can admire. Had I been Sky, however, I'da wrung that dude's neck!
The story's got a decent pace and I learned a whole lot of fancy lingo to flash about the next time I encounter a rock climber. There's something to be said for getting close to the setting, and I could almost taste the cliff as close as we got. If you're looking for a quick read, one where the MC's actually loved each other deeply once and reconnect with ease, you'll like THE NAKED EDGE. It's not too steamy and has some interesting--or crazy, in the Fatal Attraction-lunatic sense--plot twists.

I was given a copy by the author in exchange of an honest review. First of all, I'd like to thank you miss Charli Webb for this free copy of your amazing work.
I liked how this story focuses on lovers who did not fell in love right away. They were friends before they became lovers. Now that they found each other again, they rekindled their romance and I liked how she did it. Not too cheesy, not too impossible.
The book focuses on the story of Skylar and Rowdy who were lovers four years ago before Skylar left without saying goodbye. When Skylar went back for good after her mom died, she was determined to get back with Rowdy but he is a changed man. He is no longer the sweet, shy boy shet loved when she was 16, he is now a 21 year old man who teaches as a sub, is part of the Boulder Rescue Team, loves alcohol and uses sex to blow off stress. Even though circumstances have changed, his heart remained loyal to Skylar underneath the brooding, gorgeous exterior.
I loved the fact that Rowdy did not give up on Skylar that easily. He convinced himself that maybe she left him for a reason but as time passed by, 2 years exactly, he ran out of reasons to defend Skylar's disappearance. Even when he convinced himself that Skylar left him for good, he still kept her beads, her letters and pretty much everything that has her marks on. He's one of the best book boyfriends out there because he didn't fight his feelings for Skylar.
I like Skylar's character, she doesn't annoy me as much as other heroines in books. I also love her innocence haha drives Rowdy crazy, but good crazy.
Anna, wow. You will really know when an author is successful in making a book that makes you think the characters are your best friends, and also your enemies. I really hated Anna! I hate her just like how much I hated Nan in the Fallen Too Far series of Abbi Glines. I just can't believe how gulible she was to believe that Rowdy likes to marry her haha and that purity stuff, priceless. She really was desperate for love. She is just like her psycho father who killed Rowdy's mom :( I just hope I won't be seeing her in the next books to come.
All in all, I liked this book :D I love their gang with Cherri tagging along. I quite sensed it that Boone was gay haha I do want to know what happens to their stories next.
I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Naked Edge was a quick and easy read. The two main characters in the book are Skylar and Rowdy. I guess you could say that this is a second chance love story for two young people. As teenagers, they had fallen in love. They thought they would be together forever. But as fate would have it, something happens in Skylar's life that breaks them apart. Without warning or explanation, Skylar leaves and Rowdy is left behind devastated, angry and confused.
But that is not the only thing in Rowdy's life that he has had to suffer. He too has to deal with a life event that ends up changing the type of person he used to be. He is no longer that fun loving, easy going guy that Skylar had fallen in love in four years earlier.
When Skylar returns to Colorado she desperately wants to see Rowdy again. She wants a second chance with him. Even after she learns about his past and the type of guy he has become she makes the decision to go after him.
Naked Edge is about two young people trying to find their way back to each other. Skylar and Rowdy's journey is not a simple one. There are things in each of their pasts they have to deal with and decide whether or not they can be together again. They also have to deal with Anna who is Rowdy's step sister who is not happy that Skylar has returned to claim Rowdy.
Anna is determined to make Skylar's life a living hell and does everything she can to keep them apart. When she unleashes her craziness all heck breaks loose.
For me Naked Edge was just a good read and not a great one. I thought the plot was good but just needed to be a little more organized (if that makes sense). For me some things just didn't flow right. The sex scenes were a bit awkward. Even though this was a young couple I expected a heck of a lot more and just didn't get it. And though there were some crazy moments in the book I just wanted a little more angst and a little more of a struggle between Skylar and Rowdy.
i received ARC for my honest opinion i really enjoyed this story, its not your usual boy meets girl and fall in love. this story is more about a teenage romance that as all teenagers think it will be forever. Skylar met Rowdy and fell in love they had the summer and other time together. they had made plans to stay together forever but her mom had a surprise for her. she gets home and finds that her life is about to change she has to pack up and move she has to change her life completely. in this story you have action, love, betrayal and witness protection and most of all craziness. Rowdy waits and looks for Skylar for 2 years and then decides that its time to move on. he becomes his name rowdy he starts to drink and sleep with a woman every night in hopes that he can erase his past. but four years later and to his surprise Skylar is back. she has never forgot him and still loves him she has only had one other man in here life. but she never had that connection that she had with rowdy. i will stop here if not i will ruin the story for you but lets just say there is never a dull moment in this story. you have surprises and craziness through every page. you will enjoy this book.
I really enjoyed this book. Rowdy went through some pretty difficult times that caused him to become a man whore but still a good person. Skylar also went through some tough changes. I liked how once each got the explanation of what happened they were willing to give their relationship another shot.
There were some intense moments and some hawt sex!
This was okay it was a little different from the stuff we normally read in romance novels but I think it may be YA and I missed that, if it's not labeled YA I think it should be
The first time Skylar and Rowdy gave themselves to each other---is the night she disappears without a trace. Although Rowdy promised to love her forever that’s a long time at seventeen.
Her mother’s boyfriend worked for a biotech company. The FDA shut them down after one of their miracle drugs was linked to an increase in patient mortality. He was part of the group that falsified data to keep the human trials open. He testified in order to avoid serving time.
Part of the arrangement he entered into was her mother. Her mother included her as a package deal. They entered WitSec and had been in the programme a little over a year when her Mum was diagnosed with cancer. When they learnt that her mother’s last round of chemo failed, she began planning to leave New Orleans.
She had been unaware until she met with the WITSEC inspector to submit her relocation request, that they had never been at risk and that she could have remained with her aunt, uncle and cousin.
Years after waiting, Rowdy gave up on Skylar and uses alcohol and a revolving door of meaningless conquests to numb his senses.
Four years later, Skylar returns and Rowdy is unrecognisable. He is now a gorgeous, hard-bodied, paramedic and experienced in every type of mountain wilderness rescue.
She returns after her mother’s demise, unrealistic in her expectations and discovers her ex high-school sweetheart, is now a disreputable player. She’s been pining for someone that doesn’t exist except in dreams.
He’s acerbic, bitter and unfaltering in his resolve to protect the tatters of his fractured heart. Skylar’s resolute to reclaim it.
Her cousin Boone admits after trying to ring him at her insistence that she really doesn’t the person he is today....’he laughs then covers it with a cough. “Rowdy’s a slut, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call him a sex addict. If it makes you feel any better, I don’t think he even looked at another girl until after Mom and Dad died. I know for a fact he didn’t start drinking until then.”
I think Rowdy had a lot to contend with, a girlfriend that vanished, the traumatic loss of his mother, being detained in jail for his 18th birthday whilst the investigation was underway. He tried to find Skylar, I think it was harder on him than her. She knew where he was...he hadn’t a clue of her whereabouts.
They both experienced the loss of a parent.
He’s been blind to Anna’s obsession of him constantly defending her, until she tries to murder Skylar and acts psychotically.
This book contains WITSEC, a young man making bad decisions, a girl that injures herself whilst climbing, a psychotic obsessive stepsister, attempted murder, blackmail and forced coercion.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Four years ago, Skylar Layton disappeared, leaving behind her friends, her family, and the boy to whom she'd given her heart. And now, after losing the only thing she had left, she's back.
Rowdy Daletzki can't help but remember the best night of his life, since it also turned out to be the worst. Just when he needed Skylar more than anything, she was gone. No goodbye, no explanation, no note, no phone call... He waited, he searched, and he finally just gave up, learning soon that booze and random women took the edge off. So coming face-to-face with her after all this time is the last thing he expected.
Rowdy isn't the same boy Skylar knew and fell in love with as a teenager. The man she sees now is a heart-stopper, complete with a sexy, conceited smirk and a trail of women in his wake. But she's not the same, either, having had her life abruptly uprooted, followed by the loss of her mother. All she's ever wanted was to come back and reclaim what she and Rowdy once had, but it's not going to be easy. First, he has to stop blaming her, and then she needs to see if he can ever be a one-woman man again.
I was so convinced this was going to be a 5-star read that I set the rating for this review before I was even halfway through the book, but then the story took a turn for the crazy, and to be honest, it began to lose me a little. I get the need for drama, for conflict, for some kind of obstacle to make the characters work for their relationship instead of falling into insta-love, but this was a little ridiculous.
Single white female and boiled bunny ridiculous.
Perhaps it wouldn't have been so frustrating, except it started right as everything looked like it finally might be working out for these two. But then crazy pops up, and all those other issues you were supposed to work through just disappear? I totally get that emergency situations tend to put things in perspective, but they don't exactly erase them. Honestly, I think that overcoming the loss and betrayal of being separated would have been quite enough drama for these two to work through.
I was so hooked so fast that I decided skipping dinner was a great reading plan. It was impossible not to root for Rowdy and Skylar, and I really loved the way their reconnection wasn't drawn out by misplaced blame and needless angst.
All too often, stories of sudden disappearances and eventual reunions have characters who are so clouded by hate that it takes 90% of the book for them to calmly talk about it rather than slip in a few meaningful words during a fight. Naked Edge avoided that unnecessary mess by including realistic, mature characters who didn't heap blame on each other well past learning the truth about what happened. They dealt with it and didn't make some overly drawn out effort to avoid their feelings. It made for a very convincing romance that I couldn't tear myself away from. Obviously the melodramatic twist in the story didn't really work for me, but it didn't ruin things. Oh, and YAY for no cliffhangers! I love love love it when an author has enough faith in her series to let each book sell itself. And I'm quite sure I'll be keeping an eye out for the next books to come!

Yay. Sorry for the late review up here. It has been a busy week for me…
What can I say about Naked Edge?
Let me start with the cover – it’s sexy, tempting, and shouts “READ ME!”. I don’t have much power to resist it. So, while at the hospital, admitted (reason for this late posting), and I was her personal nurse for the mean time – I had get to have the time reading this one. Good thing my patient was very much asleep, and I get to read this book without any disturbance.
SECOND CHANCES PLOT = AWESOME READ!
I have always, always loved these types of plot, and Naked Edge had lived up to my expectations. Love is indeed sweeter the second time around – if only there were no asthma attacks, some psychotic step-sisters and a whole lot of past issues to deal with.
Skylar and Rowdy had been each other’s first when they were seventeen – but that night when they decided to finally get rid of their virginities – Skylar disappeared without a trace. Rowdy tried to stick into his promise of loving and being loyal to her forever – but hormones + tragedy can make you forget about it.
After years of waiting and a series of unfortunate, painful events Rowdy gave up on Skylar and tried to forget about her with sex and booze.
When Skylar finally returned, she was surprised to find Rowdy is no longer the boy she fell in love with. He was no longer the shy, sweet boy – instead, she found him bitter, angry and with a lot of strong walls around his heart. But she was determined to break it all, explain her disappearance and once again have him in her life.
I love the setting, the characters, and the plot. This is one of those books that will set your heart pumping with some unpredictable events going on every now and then. You have the inclination of how evil one character might be, but once the real color would show up, you’d still be surprised, and you’d hate the person even more.
As for our two love birds – I understand why Rowdy hated her, but what I love about this guy is when he finally calmed down, he allowed her to explain… which made all the difference in the world. I also love his friends, most especially Boone and Wade – not to mention Cherri – she’s such a sweetheart. Liking her was even unexpected.
Naked Edge is a story of love and second chances. I look forward for more books from this series, especially from Wade and Cherri!

Heartbreak, death, reunions, conspiracy, love and passion. This book encompasses a lot! I had no idea based off the synopsis that this story would hold more than just your typical romance. But it does!
Skylar, our heroine, has a lot of explaining to do when she moves back to her childhood summer getaway, where she initially fell in love with Rowdy, our hero. Having been absent for years, she has no idea of all the life-changing events that her family and friends have had to deal with while she was away, nor do they understand why she had to leave. Letting her back in won't be easy for Rowdy, he's spent too long trying to forget her.
But time and distance apart isn't the only thing they'll have to face if they want to stand a chance at love again. Turns out not everyone is happy with Skylar's return in Rowdy's life, and things are about to get dangerous.
If your like me, you'll be rushing through chapters of this book just dying to find the conclusion! It was a thrilling ride that I couldn't have seen coming.
The characters in this book were fantastic. I felt very attached to them and enjoyed them quite a bit. For a new author especially, I felt the development was well done. Not only was I enthralled in our main two characters, but I was also always happy when our secondary characters were being features as well. Loved them all, except maybe one! *Wink*
The plot also was a pleasant surprise! I had no clue I would be turning pages frantically because of the thrilling conflict that turns up! It definitely added some excitement to the usual, expected romance. The story was fresh and original and not even close to anything I've read before, which is hard to find.
And boy, oh boy, can Webb write a villain! I absolutely enjoyed loathing the one in this novel! A good villain is always a plus for me!
Overall, I really enjoyed this read and was so pleasantly surprised at what unfolded. I think the author did a great job in setting up many characters I'd like to learn about, and I will definitely be looking out for the future novels in this series and more from Webb!
I was provided with an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review of this book.
Naked Edge: ARC received in return for honest review
Firstly, I enjoyed this novel and read it quickly which is always a good sign. It follows an often used young romance plot structure. Boy meets girl as teenagers. They fall in love are separated and meet again as adults years later. However, Charli Webb shakes up the well-used storyline and adds some originality with a witness protection escapee and a psychotic step sister which all adds to the tension in the story.
Characters: Skylar: Left the witness protection program when her mum died and returns to her home town. She’s keen to recreate the relationship that she shared with Rowdy before she vanished one night. My first impression of her was of strength and loyalty and I was looking forward to seeing this develop throughout. Adding in her love of rock climbing and I thought we would see a strong, creative female lead.
Rowdy: Devastated when Skylar vanished years before, he doesn’t do relationships. Life is lived through work (paramedic/mountain rescue) and a series of one night stands. He isn’t instantly likeable but I did find myself sympathising with him as the story unfolded and you learn more about his past and the troubles that he had endured since Skylar vanished.
As Skylar and Rowdy develop I found myself really liking Rowdy and his protective instincts. He obviously cared deeply for Skylar but was wary of being hurt again. However, Skylar began to annoy me at times. She cried a lot and needed protecting a lot and didn’t really stand up for herself enough. I do like a strong female and she seemed to lose strength as the novel developed. What I did really like was the addition of the psycho step sister who was desperate to have Rowdy for herself. She was certainly unhinged and didn’t quite get the punishment that I would have expected although I’m guessing this has been left open for a series of novels to develop.
All in all this is an easy to read, sweet story with a happy ending.
I was sent a copy of Naked Edge for an honest review,so here goes.....
I liked this book! It had everything I kinda look for. A good looking man, drama, secrets and crazy ass people who will stop at nothing to keep you from been with your partner.
This book is centered around Skylar and Rowdy. They grew up together. Best friends there whole life. Then things turn a little more heated with them as there growing up. And they become more then friends. Everything is perfect. In there relationship anyways. There home life not so much. They one night when there 17 they take there love for each other to the next level. Its perfect, and all they imagined. That is until Skylar gets home and her life is turned upside down. And because of this she is taking from Skylar for over four years.
Rowdy has no idea where Skylar has vanished to. He try's to stay positive he really does BUT that same night his life is also turned upside down. What he goes to is unbelievable. But threw out it all he keeps hope Skylar will come back to him. But when her aunt and uncle doe and she doesn't show for there funeral he thinks she's a lost cause.
So he turn's to something to numb the pain. Alcohol and girls. A different one every night. And that's doing the job, well until Skylar turn's up. She's came back to town for good. And has a lot of explaining to do to Rowdy. She just has to make him listen.
But they were so close as kids. They can get past anything. And they do. Or they at least try to. But there's always something wanting to ruin your happiness. And this comes in the shape of a girl. Totally and utterly obsessed with Rowdy she she's Skylar as the devil who's brain washing him. So she must stop her.
This book has everything, some laugh's a few tears and ALOT of steamy moments! It has angst in some bits that will keep you stuck to your E-Reader. And this is Charli's first book so I can't wait for her next :)
I was given a copy of this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Skylar and Rowdy were friends growing up and then started dating. Right after they take their relationship to the next level, Skylar disappears without a trace. Four years later, she moves back to town. Skylar had a very good reason for disappearing in the middle of the night without telling anyone, but Rowdy isn't ready to hear it. That night was one of the toughest nights of his life and all he knows is that Skylar was not there for him when he needed him. He waited for her for two years, but then decided that enough was enough. In order to get over her, he has spent the last two years drowning in alcohol and one night stands. Skylar is determined to get back what they once had together, but Rowdy is not going to make it easy for her.
I have such mixed feelings about this book. Overall, I gave it a 3.5/4 stars because I really liked the story. With that said, there are some minor details that really rubbed me the wrong way. The first is all of the details they included about rock climbing. I had no idea from the description that rock climbing was going to be a part of the book. The author used an impressive amount of detail and climbing terminology in the book, but I had no idea what most of the words meant. This made those parts of the books kind of boring and caused me to skim parts. At the end of the book, there was a glossary that defined the words, but I had no idea it was back there and didn't discover it until I finished the book. Another small detail that drove me crazy was Rowdy's name. For some reason, I hate it!! I feel like it's a dog's name! One part of the story that I loved and would like to read more about, is Wade and Cherri's story. I am hoping that they are a major part in the next book!
I had such high expectations for this book. The premise sounded amazing and alot like the new adult novels I thoroughly enjoy. It was even pitched towards those who enjoyed Jay Crownover’s Marked Men series. I would love to say that I was blown away by this book, or even that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly that wasn’t the case.
The characters I found to be rather bland and cliché, but not in the good cliché way. Skylar was just too bratty for my liking. She would take little things way too seriously and get overly emotional, only to then act blasé and nonchalant when serious stuff went down. She irritated me massively. Rowdy isn’t any better. He switches between running hot and cold faster than anyone. Ione minute he’s purposely trying to hurt Sky and the next he comforts her over mundane occurrings. The supporting characters were just that, fillers to give the book some bulk but didn’t add anything of value to the actual plot unfortunately.
The writing of this book wasn’t particularly enjoyable for me personally. I found it choppy and mixed paced, dragging in some parts and skipping what I considered important details in others. The climber’s vocabulary was rather heavy for something that was supposed to be romantic new adult fiction, and I found myself getting increasingly annoyed at the frequent use of terms I didn’t know. I knew there was a glossary at the end of the ebook but I didn’t want to keep scrolling through to the end of the novel and then trying to find my page again, as its pretty time consuming on an e-reader. I feel like the premise for this book had so much potential, it could’ve been something amazing, but it fell majorly short. 2 stars for a great concept though.
This was a quick NA read to start the year off with. Skyla and Rowdy are both likeable characters and although they seem to 'slip' a little too easy back into being 'friendly' in the beginning, it's cut short by a situation out of their control. The plot is fairly predictable and the action felt a little too far fetched IMO, but the steam, romance and emotional moments compensate for this.
Skyla abruptly leaves her home town without a chance to say goodbye to anyone and this has left her boyfriend confused and hurt. When Skyla returns, ready to explain why she did what she did, she finds it's not as simple as she thought. Life has moved on for her friends. It becomes clear that ollowing your heart and keeping it safe is not going to be easy for some. The background to the story is focused around hiking / rock climbing and there's a handy glossary at the end of the book which would have been good to place at the beginning. I was familiar with some of the terminology, but not all. I didn't need to understand all the climbing jargon to comprehend the story but it would have been interesting to refer to it as I was going along.
I'd like to hear more about the secondary characters, except for Anna. I found her antics and behaviour to be unbelievable, to the point of annoying. And if i had one misgiving about this story it would be her. Not just that i didnt like her, it was the differrent direction the story took when she featured.
Naked Edge finishes with a 'to be continued air' rather than.a dreaded cliffhanger.
Thank you Charli for your generousity and i wish you well with your writing in the future
I received a free copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
I rate books 3-ish stars that I enjoyed reading, had an interesting plot, likable characters, but found myself skipping over some areas.
In Naked Edge, Skylar returns to her home town after 4 years being in the witness protection program due to some criminal activity her step father was involved in. Her goal is to so try to rekindle the love that she had with her high school sweetheart. Except Rowdy is having none of it, since she left abruptly without even saying goodbye after they lost their virginity together. It takes some maneuvering, but Skylar is finally able to convince him to listen to her side of the story & after he finally realizes that her leaving wasn't her fault, he finally forgives her. There's just one problem, Rowdy's step sister Anna who has been trying to get in his bed for years & will stop at nothing to get what she wants.
My thoughts:
I struggled between rating this book 3 or 4 stars. I enjoyed the book, it kept my interest, & the characters were likable - well, except for Anna, of course - but I found myself skipping over parts of the story that I didn't think mattered. Plus, the characters were pretty immature & I found myself rolling my eyes at times, but that's just part of the genre & not why I settled on 3.5 stars. I'm in my 30's, the characters were in their 20's, so I really can't blame the book for that. :-)
Naked Edge, as a whole, was an awesome book for the YA genre & I would absolutely recommend it for anyone who loves reading those types of book.
I was fortunate enough to be gifted this book by the Author
To say that I was surprised to be approached by this, unknown to me at least, Author and asked if she could gift me a copy of her book would be an understatement! To be assured that the gift was in no way conditional upon me giving a review made it even sweeter :) But I do like to give my opinion on books I've read, so here it is ....
I decided NOT to read other peoples reviews until after I'd finished the book myself and I'm really glad because I'm not sure that all of us were reading the same thing. I loved this book and the fact that it is the start of a series is even better!
Both of the main characters, even though still very young, have had some really rough times since they were last together and their reunion was not guaranteed to be a success, especially with at least one bitter and twisted person determined that the reunion was not going to happen. But, as they say, love conquers all. There are mountain rescues, attempted murders, a want-to-be 007 with lots of gadgets determined to catch the baddie, some great secondary characters (whose stories I am looking forward to reading) and a main male character who is a badass manwhore - or is he?
The book was well produced with very few typographical and/or editorial mistakes (always a big bonus for me), was a good length and gripped me to the extent that I ended up reading it in one sitting.
It falls very well into the new adult genre and has some sizzling hot bedroom (and other places!) scenes so would not really be suitable for those readers under 18,
Wow! This story had a little of everything and some that I could've done without.
Rowdy and Skylar were first loves when they were teenagers until Skylar disappeared without a word at a time when Rowdy needed her the most. When Skylar returns home she knows that things can't be picked up from where they were left up, but she had never imagined that her sweet Rowdy would transform into a cold, man-slut. Of course, it is all a front and the walls Rowdy has kept in place start to crumble as soon as he lays eyes on Skylar again.
So yes, there's angst and drama between Skylar and Rowdy but they soon come to an understanding to try to mend what was broken between them - mainly trust. Their connection was already established but the author made sure to strengthen it as the story progressed. Needless to say that their chemistry was HOT! That first kiss alone after so many years apart was something else.
But in comes Anna and boy is that chick crazy! She's determined to keep them apart and make Rowdy's hers.
And here is where my only problem lies. Even though some of the events that transpire where Anna's concerned were interesting and kept me guessing, some of them were too over-the-top for me to get into. I understood that the girl had problems, but it was too much.
That said, I thought that Rowdy and Skylar's second chance at love story was fantastic. Their lives were not easy and the things they had to face truly showed their characters as both individuals and as a couple.
All in all, a sweet, romantic story about true love and overcoming the obstacles thrown at you so you can start living your happily ever after.
Naked Edge by Charli Webb is a complete story with a Happily Ever After ending, but the journey you take to finally make it to this HEA is tumultuous to say the least.
We begin with Skylar and Rowdy as teenagers in love and promising each other forever. When Skylar disappears off the face of the earth Rowdy searches and waits and holds on and as long as he can. When defeat sets in he turns to women and booze. One night stands and alcohol. Skylar leaving was only one tragedy he had to deal with when she left.
Skylars back, finally, after years away. She doesn't expect to jump right back in with rowdy but she also doesn't expect the changes in him. She had no idea of anything that happened in the town after she left and when she finds everything out it's just one shock after another.
Add to the trauma of trying to reunite with your first love there's another person involved that wants Skylar to have NOTHINg to do with Rowdy and is prepared to go psycho over him. Nothing like a little extra drama to spice things up. Dumb move on this persons part though, in my experience this kind of outside influence only tends to push the two people closer together. It gets them beyond their own issues and unites them against a common enemy.
A sweet tale filled with poignantly bittersweet moments that thankfully do have a happy ever after.
What an amazing story. Its one of the best stories I've read this year and there was no eye rolling at any time. Writing a story is difficult but writing a story that can touch individuals and bring the characters to life is even more difficult. Charli did this flawlessly. The writing is exceptional.
Naked Edge is a love story. Two people that made plans for the future and a love stronger then most. But one day the life they knew was ripped from them. four years later Skylar comes home. When she arrives all she wants to do is see Rowdy. The boy that stole her heart so long ago. All their firsts were with one another. Leaving him behind was the last thing she wanted to do. She left without saying goodbye, little did she know; Rowdy's life changed drastically and when he needed Skylar the most she wasn't there.
Rowdy lives a life that keeps people at arms length. The wounds are just very much open but when Skylar returns; it turns his life upside down and he starts questioning himself. The girl that hurt him the most is the one girl that has captured his heart. As feelings return and the desire to have what he once had with Skylar lurking in the shadows, he struggles to let her back in. With temptation knocking on the door, Rowdy jumps in head first and reclaims Skylar has his. Just when you think nothing and tear them apart, a shocking surprise threatens their renewed relationship.
I was given this book for an honest review through goodreads. Overall I think the book was okay but had a few drawbacks.
What I did not like: I feel like there is still room for improvement and for some reason I cannot feel the chemistry or "flow" between the two main characters: Rowdy and Skylar. Their interaction seems a bit forced at times. The title tie in with the rest of the novel was left hanging. I mean yes it is mentioned that he wrote a song called the Naked Edge but then it just gets passed over. The background stories of both their families are presented as a traumatizing event but then again, we only get a glimpse of what happened and when information is given it is rushed. Finally, it does seem that Skylar comes back ready to move on but is still stuck way back in the day. She sounds and acts with all the dramatics of teenager.
What I did like: Secondary character relationships like Wade and Cherri's. The bromance between Boone and Rowdy was also pretty cool. The unique plot of the violent past of both their families. Anna's mental breakdown and actions. Cherri is perhaps my favorite character of the whole novel. She goes from a brief glimpse to practically keeping Skylar safe from Anna. She provides a great respite from all the other issues going on at the time. If she was real I would want her to be my friend.
I think it needed a bit more length to explain some issues and make the flow of it smoother.

First of all, I wanted to thank the author for giving me an opportunity to read this book.
What I liked: The idea. I loved the idea of the story-girl has to go into witness protection program, loses touch with high school love, finally comes back to win him over, but finds things have changed since she's been gone. I thought all of the characters were very realistic (with the exception of Anna), and enjoyed the interactions between both main and side characters.
What I didn't like: The execution of the story. For all the awesome ideas and characters this story had, the way the plot fell was very unrealistic and difficult to follow. At times, I enjoyed getting the moment-to-moment and day-to-day details and conversations, but it seemed we got these details at the expense of the bigger story. While I enjoy dual POV and first person narrative, in this case I felt like we missed out on what was happening outside of their relationship. There was hardly any lead-up to the Anna sub-plot, and it kind of felt like it came out of left field. That's not to say I didn't like the idea, but maybe if Anna was given a first person narrative, or a third person narrative had been used throughout, we would have had a better understanding of how all the pieces of this story came together.
I can say that I would definitely read from this author again because I did enjoy the story. *3 stars*
I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review
I really enjoyed this story about young love that is torn apart and they find their way back to one another years later.
Skylar and Rowdy were in love but one night their worlds came to a halt. Skylar was pushed into the witness protection program with her mother and her mothers boyfriend. The same night Skylar's world was ripped from her Rowdy's was as well.
Rowdy looked for Skylar for two years after she disappeared without a word. No one knew where she was not even her cousin that she spent the summers with.
Four years later Skylar's mom passed away and she left the witness protection program and ran to her cousin to tell him what had happened, when she got there she soon realized things were not the same. Rowdy had changed and became a pig that used women to satisfy his needs.
Skylar and Rowdy still love each other very much but neither knows what the other has been through in the four years that she had disappeared, Can they find their way back to one another?
I will not spoil the ending but I will let you know that they have a LOT of things working against them. Their reunion might be doomed before its even started.
I will be recommending this book to family and friends that I feel will enjoy this type of story. a SOLID 4 Stars!!
First of all, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Charli for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I highly appreciate it. :) So...
Wow! That was intense!
The story might be simple for others but I totally enjoyed it. This is one of those books that you would love to finish in just one sitting. :)
Second Chances. This is where the story evolves. Skylar and Rowdy had been separated due to some things they have no control of. Well, fate has given them (or in particular Skylar) another chance to finally have their happy ending. However, it won't be easy because four years of being apart has changed a lot of things Rowdy believes in. His personality has turned upside down and it's a great challenge for Skylar to bring back the person she has ever loved.
I commend Charli for having a good plot and characters. I guess it would have been better if we could have a chapter or prologue glimpse of their past relationship or probably a detailed description of what happened on the day before they separated. It could have set the emotions of the readers on a higher level. (I think I am just really particular when it comes to transition.)
Overall, I give this story 4 stars! I enjoyed it a lot and would love to see more on other supporting characters such as Wade and Cherri! :)

I really enjoyed reading this book, it started out with a cliffhanger and ended with a perfect resolution, but there was a lot going on throughout! The main characters started out fresh, relatable and with an instant chemistry that you could feel through the pages. They were able to continue to grow throughout the book and it actually felt like you were there with them! I wanted to pick up the phone and call the characters that's how real they seemed while I was reading. There was love, romance, mystery and suspense throughout to make it the perfect book for anyone's favorite genre. I also loved learning about mountain climbing and loved the fact that there was a glossary of terms in the back for those of us who aren't familiar with climbing terminology. This was one of those books that you really still think about long after you have finished reading it and also one that once you start you keep telling yourself, just one more page and I will put it down, only to finish it without putting it down! This was the first book that I have read by Charli Webb but it won't be the last!
