Debut author Charlotte-Terese Wood was born in Sussex, England. She began writing at the age of 22 without really realising that she was writing a book series until two manuscripts worth of first drafts were written. Thinking of writing a cute romance tale, dark realities and twisting tales took over and Charlotte found herself with several heart-wrenching rollercoaster manuscripts that she hopes will end up leaving her readers with a smile (after the huge twist that may make them throw their e-readers at the wall of course).
She loves cooking, walks in the Peak District and spending time with her family. She has come to understand that no amount of cuddles will be enough for her very angry cat, and there is only so much planning you can do before your book characters make the decisions for you.
Exactly 2 months and 29 days I come to you with Identity (book 2)’s review!
TW: mention of a miscarriage, almost-death of a pet, assault, death, physical abuse, abusive partner.. please read at your own accord
Chloe and Cara are twins but they couldn’t be farther than polar opposites. Cara wants to live with someone but Chloe wants to live alone. Cara wants to be dependent but Chloe wants to be independent. Cara thinks she knows who she is but Chloe wants to find out who she is. Cara is dramatic and problematic and has so much rage (understandable, but she wasn’t the only one who had to endure what she endured if anything, I think Chloe had to go through a lot more than she did near the end) but Chloe is calm and organized and plans out her life
Mel and Cara is definitely something new and interesting but I hate how conniving and manipulative Cara is. I just can’t with this one
It’s so cute how Marcus thanks Julia for bringing Chloe back to him. I love how fate works sometimes. I know he has a lot to answer to and a lot to make up for, but again we only heard her dad’s POV of how the brothers manipulated the girls. I 100% believe it about Anthony, but Marcus is different.. and I felt that in the first book
Is Cara stupid? Why the frick would she call her dad???? Rhetorical question because yes she is stupid. Ok but at least she did something redeemable
Bro as if Chloe and Cara needed more trauma. Connor needs to rot for attacking Chloe and abusing Jess. Cara finding out about the whole aunt-mom situation
I want to thank God for having Charlotte’s parents meet, and then for having Charlotte, and then for having Charlotte write Twin and introducing Marcus to us, and then for Charlotte writing Identity and bringing Marcus back. He is a safe haven for me and Chloe. Fight me. He’s so oblivious. After everything he has done for her, he still thinks he failed her???🥹🥹
I love the whole Jess and Julia addition to this book. I love this found family aspect of the book. Especially Marie!
The spice in this book ate shit up. Like it literally ate and left no crumbs 🥵
Marcus and Anthony getting into it was so satisfying. I didn’t expect it but I loved it. I didn’t think he’d choose Chloe but I’m glad he reacted that way to Anthony
I’d like to say that Cara came through and she did it and my heart was filled with pride and my eyes filled with tears! That was a plot twist I definitely needed
Of course, we can't forget the most iconic man from Twin, who reappeared again in Identity; Ramsey. Boy oh boy, my heart pooped its pants! Not all heroes wear capes. The planned tribute to Dara was beautiful... She saved those girls from the start, even if they didn't know it!
I’m happy the twins finally relied on each other. The ending was very reviving and it made waiting for the second book, very very worth it! But you should know that this book was very hard to read and it left me sobbing😶🌫️
If you haven’t read book 1 ( Twin ) you need to read that asap. This book was absolutely amazing !! After reading Twin I couldn’t wait to start the second part of the story. I loved the journey of self discovery between Cara and Chloe and how their lives have unfolded since the first book. This definitely has to be one of my favourites. 🩵🩷
Thank you to the author who gave me an ARC copy of Identity for an honest review.
Identity; the Yin to the Yang of "Twin." "Twin" was a wild and emotional ride about the abusive life Chloe and Cara had lived through for their first 18 years, and the turmoil they had to go through in order to escape the cycle of chaos of their lives. "Identity" was the 5 stages of each of their grieving process, which they both had to go through separately. Something they never had the option to do before. The twins work through each of their own different and unique processes of facing the trauma of their life and eventually find their own personal identities. It was a very moving book, and I'm so glad I got to read the rest of their story.
This 2nd book and conclusion to the Twin Identity duology was nothing short of exciting and entertaining. Identity immediately picks up right after where Twin leaves off while the wounds, both physical and mental, are super fresh for Chloe. As in, a matter of days. There is also a dual POV in Identity where we get to hear from Cara and her side of the twin problems and emotions. This helps give more insight to her character. The suspense and adventure and romance aspects are all of perfect amounts. I absolutely enjoyed getting to read about Chloe and Marcus' love story even with how unperfect it is. This book still touches on the harsh stuff too and I completely can appreciate it. It helps show the very sheltered main characters that even people who grew up completely different than them, still have to deal with issues and trauma of their own. I feel that the author tied up all the ends perfectly for each character and the overall message is conveyed very well in this devastatingly tragic but prosperous tale of how real love conquers all and to never give up.
I am absolutely blown away by this 2nd book. The first book left me sitting on the edge of my seat towards the end. I was thrilled this book was available to me so soon after the first. This 2nd book, Identity, really painted a picture of trying to move forward after being abused. I loved seeing Chloe grow and change into a beautiful person even after everything that happened to her. The details on the story have me feeling like I was watching a movie while reading this book. I love when I can get into a book and read it in a couple days. Great read Char! Keep up the good work. I look forward to the next books!!
This was good! I really enjoyed Twin so do check out my review of that on my page :) Identity follows the story of the two sisters in the aftermath of the events in book 1. Please take not of the trigger warnings as parts of this novel are graphic and may be disturbing for some readers.
I loved reading about how Cara and Chloe approached life after bk 1. I will admit that Cara’s incessant wining and refusal to do anything to help herself was at first extremely annoying but I managed to get past it. The plot was just so shocking but it flowed at a really good pace and wasn’t too long. Watching the characters grow and develop as they did was really rewarding and you could just tell that the plot had been planned out meticulously.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC, if you’re reading this do follow the other on social media: @charwauthor for updates on her writing x
Identity is the Sequel to Char's debut novel, Twin. Where Twin is a heavier read that leans towards women's fiction, Identity brings in second chance romance. This story is about healing from the past, finding one's self and grabbing the future. Chloe and Cara, although they are twins, are very different people and after years of abuse and being forced to be identical, they need to grow on their own.
I still carried so much heartache from the first book with me when going into this read and if I'm being honest, reading this sequel healed me too. Chloe is such a strong and beautiful character and I absolutely adore her. She fought, she got herself out and she was determined to make a new life for herself - even though she has never been out of the lavish comfort her family money brought her and I find that very admirable.
I loved Marcus in the first book up until a certain point but I think he really redeemed himself here. Chloe and he were always meant to be, you can tell it from the moment he is introduced in Twin. They both just needed to figure out who they were before they could be together. Their journey was hard but the love between them was so beautiful and I was all for it!!
As for Cara, I'm not her biggest fan. I despised her in the first book and for most of this one too. She's spoiled and self-indulgent and I really couldn't stand it. I am glad that she managed to put her nonsense aside and redeem herself in her sister eyes, she realised she was wrong, she stood up for Chloe and now that both girls had some time apart, they realise just how much they complete each other. This was a beautiful story and I loved it so much!
ARC Review: What an emotional roller coaster? 😭 Book 2 was just as good as Book 1 (Twin). Cara and Chloe are both hiding from their abusers in this one. They are laying low and trying to stay hidden to protect themselves. Meanwhile, both girls are independently finding themselves for the first time ever and it’s truly a beautiful story. Neither girl has ever had a choice in any aspect of their lives, they were forced to be literal mirror images of each other and never allowed to do anything independently. I loved getting the dual POV in this one and learning more about Cara. I won’t lie, Cara got on my nerves for the first half of the book, but she most definitely redeemed herself in the end. Chloe definitely had her head on straight with clear goals and a strong determination. She knew what she wanted and fate took her to exactly where she needed to be and to the exact people she needed in her corner. I adored her friendships with Julie and Jess. A true, genuine friendship for her for once where they actually care for her. Then… Marie, oh Marie. I strongly understand Chloe’s bond to her and it’s so special. I adored that added touch and who she was named after. Then we have Marcus… When I tell you I squealed at his return. He definitely proved to be so much more than I ever thought. That ending was just… WOW. I want to keep this as spoiler free as possible but it was such a powerful and moving book that I’m so happy I was able to read both parts of. I can’t wait to read more of Charlotte’s work in the near future.
This story follows twins Chloe and Cara. Twins in looks, but definitely not in personalities. They both went through such horrible and abusive childhoods that they ran away from home. Separately. And that led to an incredible fight for independency and their own identity. Chloe found herself some incredible friends, Jess and Julia, who became like sisters to her and I would love to hang with them. And who did she also see? Marcus. That man did things to me. He blamed himself for the fact that he couldn’t protect her, even though none of it was his fault. He showed up for her time and time again and when they finally gave in? Sparks fucking flew. That also happened to Cara and Mel, almost immediately. Mel really helped Cara with understanding her sexuality. But Cara had some demons to fight, the biggest one were her parents. Who are evil incarnate. I don’t want to give away too much, but the revenge that these sisters executed? It had me GRIPPING THE BOOK like a maniac. This story was so incredibly emotional that I wanted to hug the sisters and tell them how proud I am of them.
📕 * I received an ARC from the author and in exchange for an honest review. All my opinions are my own.
This book was an emotional ride. Chloe and Cara are out in the world away from their abusive home and trying to discover who they truly are as individuals, after years of being molded into mirror images of each other.
Bearing witness to their journey of self-discovery was tough at times and Charlotte did not hold back. Cara was downright a mess, and I just could not find anything redeeming about her for most of her story. I think I wanted to slap her more often than not LOL But eventually, she brought me around. Now Chloe, this girl had a plan. She had obstacles setting it in motion, but she was determined to get it done.
I was really excited when a certain character came back in this book and proved to be more than what I initially thought. The way this person carried themselves and had settled in a place where Chloe would find them showed the love was not lost. I swooned from that first meeting.
I enjoyed the journey, the drama, and the spice. Charlotte really delivered on the spice, which was absent in the first book, and I was here for it.
‘Identity’ is an epic ending to the “Twin/Identity Duology.” This book is a whisper and a shout all at once. Chloe and Cara are both ready to find themselves and to see a world that's new to them. It's a unique story with constant twists and suspense all throughout. These young women fight so hard and every step they take continues to show that. Even though this is fiction, this story of endurance is inspiring. They. Never. Give. Up.
It's important to read ‘Twin’ to fully enjoy this book…but together, they are phenomenal. I do highly suggest reading through the content warnings as it does deal with rather sensitive topics.
The character growth in this book was amazing. Not going to lie I disliked Cara almost as much as I disliked Nesta, so that’s saying something 😉. It is a fantastic story of personal growth, learning to stand on your own two feet, and standing up for those you love. The spice is on point, never feeling forced or thrown in there just because. It goes really nicely alongside a healthy dose of romantic tension! There are themes of DV and child abuse so keep your triggers in mind before proceeding. Heartwarming, and heart pounding, would highly recommend this duology to anyone!
Resilience, strength and love. Chloe and Cara have come so far, escaping their abusive household, albeit separate from each other.
This is book two in the Identity duology and we follow right where we left off from Twin. As a summary of Twin, Chloe and Cara were living in an abusive household - forced to act perfect and look/move exactly the same when in front of their parents, or there would be consequences.
As we move into Identity, after the turbulent events that occur in Twin, Chloe and Cara have freedom, but there's demons that haunt them from their treatment. We see them trying to put their life together, but their parents aren't finished with them yet.. they have another evil plot up their sleeve.
𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 I loved seeing the growth of both Chloe and Cara, the strength and resilience they both have to fight and overcome their past traumas. With the story being told in two POVs - Chloe and Cara's - we see Chloe get a second chance at love (which I adored), and Cara living with Mel, figuring out who she is and what she wants.
I loved Chloe's new found friends, Julia and Jess. They added so much to the story and I loved Chloe finding friends who she felt like she knew for years, when she's never been able to have true friends before.
I had an inkling that their parents weren't done with them yet though, and it shocked me how evil they could still be. They definitely had their fate coming for them from a mile off!
Thank you to Charlotte for this copy, I loved it. This review is voluntary.
📖 BOOK REVIEW: IDENTITY has left me breathless. Speechless. This was a FANTASTIC sequel to the first book TWIN. You absolutely MUST read this book BUT first you’ll need to read TWIN for the context. Omg I was SO MAD at the end of book one. I wanted MAD justice for Chloe and Cara. But especially Chloe. I was absolutely floored that Chloe “found” Marcus. Flabbergasted. But, so happy when her life began to thrive! One of the best lines, but damn it ripped my heart out, was when Chloe said, “I’ve never had choices before.” Crying my eyes out. Cara…she was still acting like a spoiled brat for most of the book. She redeemed herself BIG TIME in the end. So. Many. Times. I needed that from her. Please check book description for TW. These books are thrillers in their own right. I think the first book I was way more on edge. This book I was stressed for different reasons. What an ending Char! Spectacular! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Identity is the second instalment of the Twin Identity duology and I’m not exaggerating when I say both books had me gripped. If you haven’t read Twin then download it now and start reading-you won’t be disappointed. 💙🩷
I adored Chloe and her self discovery, finding out who she is as an individual instead of a twin. At the beginning of the book I wasn’t sure that Cara’s character was redeemable, by the end of the book I’d made my peace with her and realised she was also a victim of her own upbringing. I loved Julia and Jess and the friendship that they built with Chloe.
These books were both 5 star reads for me, Charlotte is an amazing author and I will definitely read all of her work.
