Professor of Literature Finn Lorensson is unashamedly a romantic. In his own words, he's a white knight in search of a charming prince to save. In fact, he's doing a good deed by stepping into the breach for his long-time friends and landlords at Mountain Shadows when a voice on the phone sends him tumbling headfirst into love/lust/fascination.

Four months later, a self-absorbed Dr. Cannon Malloy shows up in the flesh and has the poor grace to not remember their conversation. That could be because he's running from his past and too busy looking over his shoulder to appreciate what's right in front of him.

A winter storm and circumstance conspire to bring them together, but it'll take more than a charming smile and a pure heart to bring this frog-prince in from the cold.

The Pulp Friction 2014 Collection. Four authors. Four Series. Twenty books. One fiery finale. Spend a year with an eclectic group of strangers brought together through circumstances, as they are tested by life, and emerge as more than friends.
The strongest bonds are forged by fire, cooled in air, smoothed by water, grounded in earth.
Although each series can stand alone, we believe reading the books in the order they are released will increase your enjoyment.

Cold Snap
By Lee Brazil

I really enjoyed this story despite the abrupt ending that left a lot of questions unanswered. However there's apparently a different series that includes some of the characters in this book and to understand it all you have to read that series first and neither series is available on KU. I have no issue purchasing books, but when it comes to a multitude of books... unless I'm in love with the series and the author I won't do it. If it's only a couple books I'm less leery about spending the money. So I guess I'll be passing on this series. A shame, because I really did like the MC's.

Pulp Friction 2014, here we go again!

In Cold Snap, the second book of the first round we get to know Finn Lorensson, one of the permanent residents of Mountain Shadows. He’s the typical white knight who is waiting for his charming prince to save. That this prince is Dr. Cannon Malloy, the former lover of Aaron "Chance" Dumont from Pulp Friction 2013 surprised the hell out of me. :)

Ever since they spoke on the phone a few months ago Finn has been having fantasies about Cannon. When they finally meet in flesh Cannon doesn’t even remember Finn’s voice.

Cannon is a mess and needed to take some time off from his job in Atlanta, and the teaching job in Arizona far away from the memories and fear seems to be the right decision.

Finn is a nice character, it’s easy to fall in love with him. Cannon on the other hand is terrified, shy and vulnerable. But he can’t deny his attraction to Finn who is determined to seduce the withdrawn doctor.

Overall it’s a great short story that whetted my appetite for more…

Now on to book three in this round, Blown Away by Havan Fellows.

Hmmm....I felt for Cannon after Chance 'dropped' him (see Lee's contribution to Pulp Friction last year!), and I was worried that he would agonise over everything that happened to him then.

So he has my utmost sympathy, and I want to *hug* him and say *there-there* (if only peeps will let me!!)

Going to Mountain Shadows and Flagstone is a new venture for him, and hopefully a new start to his life. Then (that should be in CAPITALS!!), he meets Finn Lorensson at the B&B site, and all else goes to s**t!! Finn is mesmerised; Cannon is oblivious! and what a scenario to develop!! :)

I had to giggle at Cannon's concern for his car in the snow, and Finn's reaction (OK, his brother Siggy had me giggling a little more!) but, hopefully, Cannon will open his eyes enough to see what's in front of him!

Lovely story, Lee. Thank you!

Book 2 in the 2014 Pulp Friction series set in Flagstaff, Arizona. Here we catch up with what happened to Dr Cannon Malloy, Chance's old lover from PF 2013, and NOT one of my fave characters it has to be said. 3.5 stars.

Cannon left Atlanta after being stalked and nearly killed, and reluctantly he finally accepted that Chance no longer wanted him, Chance has pulled his big boy pants on (at last!!) and fallen head over heels for Rory, so Cannon escapes to Mountain Shadows campsite in Flagstaff where he's renting a lodge and lecturing at the University for 6 months. Unfortunately he still believes in driving around in his poser sports car, and when it gets buried under 6 inches of snow, is rescued by a Norse God of a guy who also lectures there, one Finn Lorensson. I'll leave this one here....

'Cold Snap' is the first book in Lee Brazil's 'In From The Cold' series which is a part of the fabulous Pulp Friction 2014 by four incredible authors. Once again I will state that each series can be read as a stand alone, but the reader really gets a better enjoyment, in my honest opinion, if they're read in the order they are written. For this year's Pulp Friction the order is Laura Harner, Lee Brazil, Havan Fellows and T.A. Webb. If you missed Laura Harner's 'Firestorm' you might want to read it as it provides background and it sets the stage, so to speak. Now on to Lee Brazil's wonderful installment which reunited me with a character from Pulp Friction 2013, Dr. Cannon Malloy.

Cannon was not prepared, coming from Atlanta of all things, for a winter blizzard in Flagstaff, Arizona. He is miserably out of his element, his beautiful '66 Shelby is buried under snow, and he is freezing to death when he meets the gorgeous professor of literature, Dagfinnr (Finn) Lorensson, who is also, unbeknownst to Cannon at the time, his neighbor at Mountain Shadows, the resort where Cannon is leasing a cabin. Finn invites him to stay at the same hotel he is staying at as the roads home are impassable, and one thing leads to another, resulting in a night of hot, unbridled passion between the two. Cannon's time in Arizona is meant to be his opportunity to really come out of hiding as a proud, gay man. Unfortunately for him, he is still suffering anxiety and panic over his ordeal in Atlanta, and this makes him terrified and paranoid at times. So, of course, he wakes the morning after and runs.

"Clenching the hand in a tight fist, he snorted, then chuckled darkly in the dim room. Atlanta's finest neurosurgeon, taking a job in a teaching hospital for a semester? Outrageous, his colleagues declared. His superiors had been outraged, he'd just received a promotion that most of his peers would have killed for.
If he'd gone back into an operating room, death would have been inevitable. The surgeon's hands that had saved lives, the hands that had crafted a career he'd sacrificed genuine love for, had failed him.
So he ran.
And he was going to keep right the fuck on running."

Finn has been waiting for Cannon. Ever since they spoke on the phone with Finn as acting manager of Mountain Shadows until the new owner, Scott, arrived, Finn has been having fantasies about the vulnerable and sexy sounding man. For those of you who read the author's 'Chances Are' series you're probably thinking "Cannon? Vulnerable?" But, he was vulnerable and a little shy under the image he's perfected over the years. Every sound makes him jump these days and he's scared that someone is stalking him. My heart broke just a little bit for this man whom I hadn't liked for a long time but now I saw in a different light.

Oh Lee, you have got my curiosity raging now for more of Finn and Cannon. I want to see where they are going to go and whether Finn's thoughts and dreams about a relationship will come true. I'm also deathly curious about their other neighbor, the very mysterious conspiracy theorist, Rowen Smithe. Sigh. I don't know yet whether Havan Fellows or Tom Webb will have his story but I'm dying to read more. More of Scott and Robby. More of Finn and Cannon. More of Mountain Shadows and its fascinating residents. Watch out, Lee, I'll be stalking you, too, for more of these fabulous men.

Fans of this series BEWARE.....The team is back and better than ever.....When I reviewed the series opener written by LE Harner was it just two weeks ago.???...Wow does time fly....(but I digress) I knew this was going to be another great ride.

Laura Harner opened the series with a strong story and introduction with FIRESTORM (Fighting Fire #1) with a bang and brought the four authors to Flagstaff Arizona this time. I must mention that each author writes their own story line and series, and characters are a stand alone set, but to savor the entire craft , you should read them in order rotating them, as they bring four different stories into one.

It looks like Mountain Shadows Campground that Scott sorta inherited in Laura’s
book will play a large part of this story. Now, let me get to Lee Brazil’s wonderful entry.
Lee I must say, any reader who read your Pulp 2013 knows the name Dr Cannon Malloy.

When I opened this story, I screamed out loud and clear a Yessss when I saw you brought him here for another chance. This suave, debonair doctor from Atlanta had been handed ‘the bad life card’ in Pulp 2013, being married, loving Chance, coming out and not knowing where he belonged. He is lost and deserves more.

Cannon is a mess inside and feels the best decision he made is take some time off, and take a teaching job in Arizona far away from the memories and fear back in Atlanta.

If he'd gone back into an operating room, death would have been inevitable. The surgeon's hands that had saved lives, the hands that had crafted a career he'd sacrificed genuine love for, had failed him.So he ran. And he was going to keep right the fuck on running.

Enter Dagfinnr Lorensson, Finn for short a professor of Literature at the same school (and unbeknownst to Cannon a would be neighbor at Mountain Shadows, also renting a cabin on the grounds.) Finn had spoken to Cannon months before and was so enchanted by the call was waiting for him to arrive) Cannon has come to Arizona with his prized 1966 Shelby and finds this beautiful prize buried in snow in the school parking lot. Finn steps in, introduces himself and is sorely disappointed Cannon doesn’t seem to recollect they spoke. He offers Cannon a ride to a local hotel as they will not be able to get back to the campgrounds that night.

Holy God, the attraction is instantaneous.....the sex smokin’ and the afterwards is delightful. This was just what we needed Lee, and you have done all this in less than 60 pages, so much to think about and whet our appetites....Who and what is Rowen Smithe and will Siggy get Jillian????
Cannot waiiit till February 15th and the next entry

Wait, what?? A character I hated has now found his way into my good graces. Curse you Pulp Friction, you just could let me dislike a character. After what Conner Mallory did to Chance, I never thought I could forgive. Yet, here I am liking him in the new series. It doesn't hurt that he has a Nordic god by the name of Finn Lorensson wanting to develop a relationship.

Mallory has come to Mountain Shadows to spend 6 months teaching and getting his act together. Mallory gets off on the wrong foot with just about everyone, but gets on the right side of the bed with Finn. Unfortunately, Mallory decides being an ass is better than being in love. Time will tell if Finn can change his attitude.

Another dandy story in this series. I give it a snowbank worth of stars.

A great start, can't wait for more.

I think it's going to be a great year of great books. I'm just impatient and want them all now. I already love Finn, Cannon is kind of a mess, but I feel for him and hope he finds his way. There are great teases for other storylines like Rowe, Jillian, Siggy, Scott, And Rob.

Cannon The Idiot -from Chances Are, PF 2013- turned into a lovable man? Who would have thought? Plus, is a convincing conversion that doesn't resort in a magical personality change.
Finn is a terrific character.
The cast is assorted and very interesting.
An incipient D/s relationship, appealing characters, good pace in general, fairly emotional intensity. I'm hooked on it!

This is the good opening to a serial story, but expect a non-ending.
While I liked Finn and Cannon, I didn't warm to some of the other residents of Flagstaff.
Still, read it and make up your own mind.

Let me start by saying I love the Pulp Friction Event(s). The idea is intriguing and the books are entertaining. I've read the first four groups more than once already. I've also previously read Lee Brazil and enjoyed those stories.

I just have a problem connecting to Cannon, one of the main characters in Lee Brazil's 'In From the Cold' series in this event.

Cannon has come to Mountain Shadows from Atlanta on a teaching sabbatical in Flagstaff. He is a neurosurgeon with a fine tremble in his hands that makes him afraid to operate. There is mention of stalking, a serial killer and dead bodies back in Atlanta. Cannon keeps reminding himself it's over, the bad guy was caught and nothing followed him here. Obviously there is some PTSD and running to Arizona was his way of escaping but he was so woefully unprepared for the area I find it very hard to believe he is a respected doctor, educated man or has any common sense.

Finn, his romantic interest is intriguing. A Nordic god of a man who is a professor at the college Cannon is teaching at and a long time resident of Mountain Shadows, making him Cannon's neighbor. I like his Dom tendancees but got a little annoyed with his attempts at finding a fairy tale to fit Cannon into so Finn could be the prince charming rescuer. A grown, educated, intelligent man using fairy tales for relationship advice? I understand white knight fantasy's but Finn's internal debates seemed a little Disney.

Scott, Jillian and Rob are present and we meet Finn's brother Siggy. There is another long term resident of Mountain Shadows named Rowen that makes an appearance too.

I did love the book because it did precisely what it was meant to do. It was entertaining, introduced us to the characters and set us up for the mystery, intrigue and secrets to be revealed! NEXT!

I first got into Pulp Friction when reading Firestorm by Laura Harner. At first, I just read her part of Pulp Friction. While, it was complete enough to get an idea of the whole cast of characters, it seemed like there was this whole richly woven story that I was plain old missing out on. So, I went back and started at the beginning and I am really enjoying it. So, now that I am nearly caught up on the whole series, I thought it was time to do some reviewing. :)

Cannon is one of Atlanta’s top neurosurgeons. He left Atlanta for Flagstaff because of some issues with a stalker that had him understandably freaked out. Even though the stalker has been caught, he needs to get away for a while, so he takes a temporary position at a teaching hospital in Flagstaff.

He meets Finn in the faculty parking lot after he realizes his car is buried in snow and he is trying to figure out how to deal with that. Finn knows who Cannon is, but Cannon does not remember talking to Finn before he arrived in Flagstaff. Cannon is a bit self absorbed, though, so it's of no surprise to me.

Cannon is very skittish, pretty much running away from Finn at every turn. A guy could start to take it personally. But Finn is a patient guy and works with Cannon's jumpiness.

I think that Cannon and Finn could work really well with each other if Cannon manages to give them a chance. He needs Finn's calm to counter his own restless nature. But will Cannon slow down and take a deep breath before running away? Time will tell.

This year’s Pulp Friction series is off to one heck of a great start. Just in case you don’t know what Pulp Friction is I’ll fill you in. Its four authors, each with a stand a-lone series but the stories are all based in one particular area and the characters from each series sort-of interact. At the end of the year, they have one big explosive finale to sum up all the stories. You don’t have to read them all but to get the best effect I recommend you do. I think this is a cool concept.

Cold snap is the first book of Lee Brazil’s series In From the Cold. It is the second in the Pulp Friction series. This cover is HOT!!! If you’ve never read Lee Brazil you should. He has a way with characters and can be sweet and sexy or sizzling. I have to say Finn is one of those sizzling characters. Sexy, Norse God looks, A romantic and a knight-in-shining armour type. What more could you want? Well I think Finn may have a little secret I bet we find out for sure in the next book. Cannon. I have to say I was a bit surprised with Cannon. He is from Lee’s series Chances Are and I have to say I did not like Cannon at all in that book. I think I may actually get to like him here.

The story is interesting, and I found it a bit romantic. But then again I fell in love with Finn from the get go.

If you like snowstorms, Hot, sexy, Norse God looking men with accents, Professors, broken men, Doctors and romance this story is for you!

I love the whole Pulp Friction series. It's an interesting concept in theory which actually worked out quite fantastic in reality. Unfortunately, I started with the 2014 series, then was compelled to go back and read the 2013 series. Now I'm looking forward to reading the 2015 series as soon as it's all out.

The books are best when read in the 4 author round a bout way. The characters are so well written and believable that you get sucked straight into their world and never want to leave. To me, that's the greatest compliment that I can give to any author/s. That total immersion into their world to when you close your eyes the story just keeps rolling in your head until you can't remember which part you read and what you thought you did...

Read it, Love it, Enjoy it. It's worth it.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

Cold Snap is the beginning of a beautifully complicated relationship. What I like so much about this story is the back and forth in this relationship. There are ups and downs along with several obstacles in their way. This book is the beginning of the series so, of course, the story lines left open for a reason. And for that reason I’m waiting on pins and needles for more of Finn and Cannon.

Dr. Cannon Malloy returns from Pulp Friction 2013. If you've read that series you remember how arrogant and full of himself Cannon is. He has left Atlanta and headed west for a new start and meets Professor Finn Lorensson at the Mountain Shadows Campground. Finn isn't going to let Cannon continue to be abrasive without consequences, which is what Cannon wants and needs. Lee Brazil gives his characters second (and third or more) chances to redeem themselves. When Cannon finds himself trapped by a winter storm with Finn he has no choice but to begin again. Or does he? Another great short story by Lee Brazil, with an ending that doesn't quite finish it off, leaving the reader wanting more.

Aw hell, just as I was getting truly involved with this story it stopped. This was part 1 of a new series by Lee Brazil, as well as part of a unique set of books by 4 authors all whose books are connected called Pulp Friction 2014. Seems to be a very interesting concept. Anyway I was enjoying the story of Finn & Cannon, I liked the way the story was coming together and it included a mystery, a stalker, a weird neighbor, as well as a hot professor (Finn) who is tempting Cannon with things he's not sure he wants to say no to. Although it was way too short for my likes it was a tempting story. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Cold Snap is the first in Lee Brazil's new Pulp Friction 2014 series, In From The Cold. It's a gripping start. Bringing in one of the more problematic characters from Brazil's Chances Are series and setting the stage for the emotional and sexual fireworks that is sure to come. Just a terrific read.

4.5 stars--This is Finn and Cannon's story, and it grabbed me from the start. I love the reserved, easily ruffled Cannon and his perfect counterpart--the calm, self-assured and reassuring Finn. They are funny, sweet and sexy.

This is so much fun--different stories from different perspectives yet all closely entwined, and I'm reading them as intended--in their proper order. I already know Pulp Friction 2014 will be among my favorite reads this year!

This part is the non-story. Disjointed, lacking in content. Aside from the one-night-stand and the minor accident it was just a tool to let all other participants appear again.
In fact, the blurb tells more than the actual book.
