These words are the mantra of my existence. I’m not sure if it’s Titus Rogen inspiring my desire to go against what I am or my own DNA deviating. All I can think is how Titus will look when he meets his end. It trumps even my wish for freedom. In this moment, I want nothing more than to watch the life bleed from Titus’s body. And I want it at my own hands.
Titus. The Creator.
I stare at my palms. Strength aside, I wonder if I’m capable of taking a life. A human life; one with a soul. And I wonder if that isn’t easier than taking the life of an Imitation. At least humans have souls that live on. What do I have after this? Where will I go? Back into a syringe? Will Titus recycle me? Or will I be lost forever down a lab drain?
We don’t deserve that.
We don’t deserve him.
Deserving and receiving are so very different here. And I am beginning to understand, to beat someone in this world, I‘ll have to play in it.
Heather Hildenbrand lives in coastal Virginia where she writes paranormal and fantasy romance with strong-willed heroines and dark, grumpy heroes who’ll burn the world down for their mate. Her most frequent hobbies are cuddling with her giant goldendoodles, riding country roads on the back of her husband’s motorcycle, and avoiding killer slugs.

Actual Rating: 3.5
MY THOUGHTS It hasn't been that long since I read the first book, Imitation, but it's been long enough that I like a little bit of a refresher as to what happened. Which is exactly what this book does. This book quickly intertwines major events of the first book in Ven's thoughts and dialogue to catch you up, without any info dumps. This was done really well.
This book takes place not too long after the events of the last book. Ven is still pretending to be Raven, Daniel is locked up for helping the Imitations, and everyone is scrabbling to prevent Titus from discovering where the Imitation's are hiding.
This book is true to second book syndrome in the way that a majority of the book seemed to be leading up to the next book. There's lots of planning and making allies involved in not only prevented Titus from discovering the Imitations, but stopping him all together and saving the rest of the Imitations. Not the say that there's not a lot of action, but the book isn't quite what you would call action packed. Though, this book is very thrilling in way that Ven discovers and learns so many shocking things within this book.
Like I said, this book mostly leads up to the next book, which means that the last 20 pages or so has a heaping load of action. The last few pages of the book are very impactful, emotional, and overall just shocking. Fair warning, there is indeed a cliffhanger.
And lastly, the romance. I liked the romance in the last book. It wasn't cliche or overdone, didn't distract from the plot, and the love interest was a really nice guy. These are all still true, but I felt that the romance was just odd in this book. The characters were just making out too much considering the circumstances and, really, it seemed a bit fast to me. It didn't distract from the plot, but it seemed unnecessary.
IN CONCLUSION This was a very nice continuation to Imitation, although it was mostly a lead up to the next book. I do still recommend this series and, after that ending, I have high expectations for the next book.
I received this from Netgalley for my honest review. Publisher: Alloy Entertainment
Compared to the first book, this book was a lot slower. I felt the whole book was talking about the same thing. But it was still a pretty good read. And I still like the characters. Although, I thought in this one Ven was a lot less likable.
I will probably continue this series, especially if I get them from Netgalley. There were a few major events that happened in this book that made me go, "Woah!" that's why its a 3 star instead of 2/ 2.5 stars.
Let me just start off by saying that I LOVED the first book, Imitation. So much so that I recklessly bought the second one without reading any reviews or thinking about it beyond "oh hey look I think I need this."
The one thing I really have to say about this book?
This was a bad decision and I wasted my $0.99. There's a reason some books are less than a dollar on Amazon people.
Want to know more? Keep reading. And prepare yourself for a rant. (Albeit a well thought out, detailed rant)
Deviation started out okay. It wasn't the great and had some trouble getting off its' feet but that's to be expected sometimes.
But then I started noticing anomalies (props to Ally Condie for teaching me that word BTW) that made me uncomfortable. Ven (Raven) didn't seem like the same person she was at all within the last pages of Imitation. She was angrier, bolder, and she started morphing into a completely different person without any clear reason as to why. To be clear, in the first book she was sort of shy, careful, cautious, still a great heroine (if she could even be called that...) but a more passive one at that. But in this book she did a 180 and became brazen, extremely angry, always taking dangerous risks and even going so far as to attack Titus multiple times. But THIS WAS NEVER REALLY EXPLAINED. It was as if the author decided she didn't like the way she had written Ven in the first book so she just completely rewrote her to be someone else. Many of the characters even comment on her new anger and make odd remarks like "it's happening again" BUT THIS IS NEVER EXPLAINED. I mean I have a guess as to why but all I wanted was a clear answer.
But ultimately, my main issue, (prepare yourselves, this is going to be a shocker, coming from the chick who is in love with Ignite Me) was the horrid presentation of Ven's relationship with Linc and the romance.
It. Was. Awful.
In the first book they seem all innocent and it's so sweet and precious but in this book, look, I don't even know how to describe it.
Let me just express what basically happened.
First few times they make out? Okay, I can maybe handle this. Middle of the book? I am cringing and feel like I need to wash my eyes. By the "climax"?
I am not one of those people that think YA needs to be Romance free. Not at all. In fact, I think the Romance is what makes some YA's as great as they are. Love and relationships are key to any society or conflict. But when YA Romance is done terribly, there really is no excuse. It's YA. You know as an author that a bunch of 13-25 year olds are probably going to be reading what you write. And they have expectations.
All in all?
I wanted to ask Ven if she was in heat or something, slap Linc and tell him to go back to how he was in the first book, and forget I ever read this book.
It would have been better if I had just made up my own ending in my head.
Even if you loved the first book, I highly advise you don't read this one...
This is the second book in the Clone Chronicles and Ven and Linc grow closer as they try to save all the Imitations. There is not a lot of action per se, but there is plotting, conspiracy and secrets to keep the plot moving. Ms. Hildenbrand writes in a style I'm not accustomed to--first person, present tense. But she does so beautifully, evoking beautiful imagery from her words. There is a cliffy at the end, but I don't mind that. In fact, it makes me want to read the next book in the series.
OMG, you guys. THIS book!!! I loved book one of this and impatiently waited for Deviation to come out. When I got an eArc of it, I dived straight in and I honestly didn't want to leave the book down. My poor heart!
After what happened in Imitation, Ven is trying to bide her time and make Titus trust her. She is trying to be the best Raven she can. Appearances are everything but Ven has a secret agenda and is trying to free every Imitation from the lab. Can she pull it off from the all seeing Titus?? Just who can she trust?
What can I say about this amazing book!! Character wise, Ven is as awesome as always. She puts on a brave face but underneath is so strong yet so broken. She longs to free her Imitation friends and does everything she can to try, but Titus always seems to be one step ahead of her. She just wants to be free, free to live and love who she pleases.
Linc is as adorable as well. He is Vens rock and he has stolen some of my heart. He is such a sweetheart and exactly what Ven needs.
The plot of Deviation is fast paced and action packed. Titus is such an evil power hungry person. He is swapping people for their Imitations just to further his goals. Could you imagine living in a world where you don't know who is real and who is an Imitation? If you don't agree with Titus then you can be pretty sure you will be replaced!!
Anyway, Deviation was amazing. So much happens in such a small length of time that you are left reeling. Heather Hildenbrand is not afraid to toy with your emotions and believe me when I say that Deviation will do just that. My heart broke and I was left gasping at certain parts. I cant say much more because I will spoil it but suffice it to say that Heather is evil!!!! Lol. She put me through the wringer with Deviation and has left a gaping hole in my heart. I need book 3 like yesterday!!!! That ending was killer.
So yes, I adored Deviation and can not recommend this series highly enough!!! It was such a roller coaster but one I wish I could read again for the first time. Ven, Linc and the gang are firmly in my favourite list and I can not wait for more from them. An amazing book from an even more amazing writer. She puts so much into her writing and characters, that you cant help but love them. I can sum up Deviation in a sentence, Its a NEED to read book!! If you haven't tried the series yet then what are you waiting for?? Go grab Imitation now and join Ven and Linc on their journey. You won't regret it.

My Review: So for the second book in this series, it was alright. I mean sure, it could have been better, but it definitely could’ve been a lot worse. Ven and her misfit gang of imitations are back, but for a whole different reason. Rather than saving herself, Ven and Neil, and Linc and everyone else are here to save the imitations. Sure I had a few things I didn’t like about the book, the characters seemed kind of flat at times, some of the scenes felt kind of forced, like the characters were puppets instead of characters, the foreshadowing was super obvious in places, we didn’t get to know some of the new characters very well and some of them didn’t stay very long, and the last quarter of the book went kind of fast, but aside from all of those things, it was an interesting book. There were parts I liked, however. The story was pretty good, it kept my attention for the most part, we got to meet Linc’s mother, which was cool. She had some good life lessons to teach Ven, and the end was exciting and dramatic. Overall, the book was pretty good. I’d probably read another one if there’s another. Definitely check it out if you have the time, I got my copy from Netgalley. Read the first book, though, because if you don’t you’ll be thoroughly confused! Thanks for reading.

Heather’s newest installment of The Clone Chronicles, Deviation, is as gripping and intense as the first. She does not disappoint readers returning with her incredible writing ability putting you right in the story with her characters. In this story, Ven is still under the thumb of Titus Rogen. With the love of Linc and her awesome sidekick Obadiah, her journey continues in trying to escape Titus and help the other imitations. Ven has left her quiet and timid personality to one of confidence and strength. I love watching her character grow in each chapter. So many questions of who is the master mind with Titus and which one of her friends will betray her, keeps you on the edge of your seat biting your nails. Without giving too much away, Deviation gives you just enough to pull you along in the series but not enough to end the anticipation of the questions and struggles her characters face. Continue with this captivating series, you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy!
I received an ARC ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
OMG it can't end like that! There has to be another book!! PLEASE LET THERE BE ANOTHER BOOK!!!!!!!!
After reading Imitation, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second book. Deviation is with out a doubt just as good as the first one. It does not disappoint. I was on the edge of my seat towards the end, and at times I kept shouting out "NOOOOO, that can't be happening." The covers of these books are just amazing and what really drew me in to reading them, as well as the description. The main character Ven is just someone that you grow attached to and care about. She will do anything to bring down Titus and free the other Imitations, as well as protect the ones she loves and cares about. Also her relationship with Linc is too cute, and I just couldn't get enough. I'm praying that there is a third book, and if so I cant' wait to start reading it.
Despite the intriguing premise of this series, I can't seem to get into this second installment, so I'm abandoning it for now. Maybe I will try again later. I'll withhold giving the book a rating until I've given it a fair chance.
I was pretty sure I had this series all figured out. I didn’t. Deviation proved even more entertaining than Imitation, which was a great start to a series. I am now dying to read the final book, Generation.
I recently reviewed the first book in this series, Imitation. This book is not a standalone. The author threw in loads of recaps, but you won’t really enjoy this book, unless you read the first one. Also, there is no way to review this book without giving away spoilers about the first book. So there will be spoilers here for book one.
Ven is doing it. Ven is an imitation living her authentic’s life. Maybe her situation is a bit more serious because her authentic’s father is Titus. Titus is the one who created all the clones, and now he has all the power. He is all business and if you cross him, he will get an imitation to replace you. Ven and Daniel team up to free the clones in the first book, but he is captured. It is now up to Ven to figure out how to get Daniel out and not get herself killed. As secrets of connections are revealed, Ven realizes there is more on the line than just her friends back at Twig (the clone factory) at stake if she fails.
There is almost too much going on in this book. Ven and Linc are getting closer. Daniel is in major trouble and he is the only one who knows where Twig city is and how to get the freed Imitations moved to a safe place. Titus is very manipulative and has all of these engagements for his daughter Raven, and so Ven seems to go from place to place. Somehow Ven still finds time to move around behind the scenes. She gains critical knowledge throughout the story.
There were a few things that really worked for this story:
*I got answers to some questions left by book one. The secrets revealed in this book were very shocking. I don’t mean that I didn’t expect some people to be lying, but this was just so much more than that. I was left wondering how I would feel if someone dropped that bomb on me. *The concept of a bad guy just replacing someone who doesn’t agree with him. Someone like Titus literally playing god to the Imitations. *The motivation for Ven to try and save her people. She is living a really sad existence just pretending to be someone else. Her motivation isn’t just to be free, it is for all the imitations to be free, too. *There is a lot of alliances and new betrayals in this story. I am really not trusting anyone in this series at this point, except Ven. I am still really rooting for her.
The problems I had with this story:
*Ven is able to pull of Raven with ease at this point, she is really good at pretending. She lies throughout most of this story. She puts on a show for Titus and in every social situation. The other Imitations in this story, and there are quite a few, are just as good as pulling off their deceptions. It seems pretty unbelievable that anyone could be that smooth without more experience. *I really wasn’t as impressed by the romance between Ven and Linc in this story. It was an odd thing roaming around in the background of this story. There was so much more moving throughout the story that the romance lost interest for me. *I hated the ending of this book. I am rooting for Ven, so this is unacceptable. This ending cannot actually be the end. I have even more unanswered questions.
This book seems like a typical second book in a trilogy. It gave good angst, dragged a bit, but left me rooting for the protagonist.
Deviation is the second instalment in Heather Hildenbrand’s alluring Clone Chronicles series and continues where the first novel left off; once more taking readers into the heart of Rowgen Tower and seeing our heroine Ven continue to fight for her freedom and that of the Imitations.
I will be honest here; I’m a Heather Hildenbrand fan. Every single one of her books have managed to capture my attention and entertain me from the get go, and this series is no exception. Imitation blew me away, and I enjoyed Deviation almost just as much. As a sequel, Deviation continued to develop the overall storyline, but also entailed plenty of action, romance and high-stakes. Hildenbrand has written the story well and continues making small revelations and developments that shape the story.
Personally, I loved the characters as much in this book as I did the last. Our main character Ven continues to be a fantastic voice to follow and continues to grow in this book. As an imitation, a clone whose purpose is to serve their authentic, Ven started out having very little self worth, something she only began to find during the events of Imitation. In Deviation, as Ven acknowledges her own feelings and importance we see a young woman who is supposedly a clone of another develop her own personality, drives and desires. Ven is experiencing so many things for the first time and learning her capacity to love.
Hildenbrand continues to have me all squishy inside with Ven and the relationships she shares with the other characters. The relationship between Ven and Linc is a favourite, for obvious reasons, but I also think the friendship between Ven and Obadiah is great inclusion to the story. He and Ven have a very cute dynamic that is enjoyable to read.
Continuing on where the first book left off, Deviation sees Ven and her friends struggling to protect and hide the imitations they managed to help escape in the first book, and expectedly features a lot of tension and desperation. No one, especially Ven, knows what Titus Rowen is going to do next and there’s a lot of danger lingering within the pages of this novel, but also a lot of friendship and romance two.
Heather Hildenbrand has written a very beautiful romance between Ven and Linc in this series and I absolutely adore any scene where these two feature together. They have a great chemistry and Deviation sees the two of them as strong together as ever before. I love the way they fit so well and the ferice dedication Linc has to Ven. He started out as a guard in Rowen Tower but since meeting and falling for Ven, he has become very dedicated to protecting her, and always puts her first. These two are a fantastic pairing and I can only hope things continue to run smoothly with their relationship.
Overall Deviation is a great follow up to its predecessor and I’m very much looking forward to the next book. With some interesting twists revealed in this book and another layer of mystery surrounding the goings on around Ven, I can’t wait until the release of the next instalment!

A while ago I had the absolute pleasure of reading and reviewing Imitation, the first book in the Clone Chronicles series and I left myself wondering would this even be possible? Could the scientific world truly find a way to generate clones? We all know about Dolly the sheep, one of the first clones the scientific community generated, what I am talking about are human clones. Sure Stephen Spielberg did it in Star Wars and it was done in Duplicity, but could it really be done? It is a question that is being asked all over the globe as a means to do exactly what Titus wants to do, use the clones to help cure disease, be readily available for organ donations/transplants as needed. But I am going to guess Titus never expected the clones to develop personalities of their own, nor did he ever expect them to rebel and push to become independent of their “originals” The ethics behind this model is something that I am also guessing science has battled with from the beginning of the process, and thus the main reason we have yet to see human clones. Heather has managed to put the what- if factor into reality in this amazing follow-up to Imitation! I literally sat down and read this book in a single day, and that was a problem because I was working, it’s a good thing my boss was not in that day because I kept picking my Kindle back up to see if Ven, Linc, Daniel, Neil and the others were successful in their quest to try and begin to free the clones! I say now with a great deal of amusement that the reading of this novel would have gotten me into a heap of trouble and had I been in school I am more than sure the teacher would have taken my kindle and I would not have seen it again. Heather has done such an amazing job of engaging the reader, thoroughly developing the characters and building their relationships perfectly, Ven struggles the way any teenager would when their parent does something they feel is grossly unethical, all the while trying to be the perfect child. Her relationship with Titus, the King of all that happens to those who get power and money who should not, their evil and greed come to the surface, is strained at best, though they are able to present the best of appearances. I could literally go on, but alas I will not. Five out of Five Stars for Deviation **I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the Author**
I actually liked this installlment in the Clone Chronicles much more than the first book. The story moved from the first chapter unlike Imitation. Hildenbrand added more depth to her characters. And, the plot became even more twisted.
I didn't think it was possible to dislike an antagonist as much as I disliked Titus Rogen. Sometimes a bad guy has a quality that you might like if their circumstances were changed. That's not the case with Titus Rogen. He is only motivated by greed, power and wealth alone. He cares about no one.
Ven, on the other hand, matures in this book. She has a heart of gold and becomes the heroine for the Imitations. She's the female protagonist readers love--strong, caring, brave and don't forget she has a cute love interest. With Deviation, we get more of a glimpse of her Authentic, Raven Rogen. Hildenbrand left you wondering was there more to the bratty socialite than what we learned in Imitation.
We also learn more about Daniel, Raven Rogen's interest and Titus' right hand man. In Imitation he is the self-absorbed playboy. Although we learn a little about his true self in the first book, Deviation lets us know that he really is on the side of justice. Whether or not, he's completely likable is yet to be determined. After all, his love interest has been secreted away. Is he acting out of self-interest or because helping the Imitations is the right thing to do? That question kept popping up throughout this book.
Hildenbrand continues to probe our thoughts with questions about clones, their humanity and their rights. She also touches on the topic of transgender with the characters of Obadiah and Ida. If human cloning was possible, should parents have the right to tinker with their kids gender?
Once again, the backdrop of Washington D.C. gives us questions about how far should science and politics go. Titus, a businessman, has deep pockets funded by politics while hiding behind scientific research. Definitely a great plot twist.
The only thing I disliked about this book was that it ended too soon and book three isn't published yet! Hildenbrand made Deviation a true cliffhanger. Fortunately, I'll be happy to reread books one and two when the third one comes out.
WOW! Book 2 is phenomenal. I should know this, as I literally love this author. And now Ven and Linc have not just their own lives at stake, but a whole lot more. And there is so much more to Titus and his powerful outreach, and the things he’s willing to do to get what he wants. Torture is child’s play to him. Death, nothing but a bother to clean up. That man is HORRIBLE… And there’s more “imitations” that I thought, and some “authentics” who are ok with them and helping.
Van is furious, and ready to kill Titus, but she needs to make sure everyone else is safe first. And now she really knows, he’s killing off real people, replacing them with their imitations he’s made and can control to gain even more power. And she has enough. I loved Ven in the first book, and I really love her fiery, almost vengeful, spirit in this one as much or more. She’s learning her new feelings, and that just because she’s a clone, she has feeling, and purpose, and can love, and hate, and feel remorse and fear. It’s amazing. AND that little kicker is NOT the only twist in Titus’s little journey. Your mouth is going to drop, or mine did! :)
Linc is just lovely. ooh that’s just cute :) He’s a goner for Ven, the real Ven, not her replacement of Raven. And he’s doing all he can to help get Ven out from Titus’s finger, and trying to help the imitations as well. As for Titus, I want to do some very bad things to him and not in a good way. Plus, there’s some other characters that you met in book one and new ones you’ll met here, that are excellent additions to the story. Even Daniel’s little twist is perplexing, yet made the story that much more awesome! And Heather, stalkee, honey you know I love you, but you better hurry and gimme book 3 with an ending like that… The only exception I will make is for Alex!!! I love Linc, but Alex is MINE ladies! LOL So, with that said. PHENOMENAL, AMAZING, HEART WRENCHING!! 5 PAWS!!
You know those books that you know you’re going to enjoy just after reading a few lines/one chapter? This was one of those books (and after the last few reads that was a welcome change) and it carried on like that all the way through until the last sentence. I can honestly say I wasn’t bored for even a second.
Most of that has to do with the fact that this book is chockfull – okay that’s a slight overstatement but there are (at least) three massive twists in the book and by the time you recover from the emotions of one, the other jumps out at you. You might be thinking that when I say jumps I’m exaggerating but trust me, I’m not. That is exactly what it felt like. I didn’t even see them coming, at all… Not one bit.
The one point that really left me astonished though is that once I finished reading I realised I hadn’t thought of Ven as a clone once. I was well and truly invested in her and everything that happened to her, if you’ve read my review of book one you know what a huge deal that was for me.
Oh and the new characters (or was it just the one? I forgot), I positively adored them! Too bad they couldn’t stay though – whether they left or not I’m going to leave that one to you guys and your imaginations.
And Oh My God that ending! How could you Heather Hildenbrand?! How could you?! After that ending I don’t even know where this book going anymore or even how the characters are going to accomplish what they want, it’s a complete blank and I loved that! For the first time in years I’ll be going into the last book of a trilogy – guessing here on the trilogy idea – without an ounce of an idea of what to expect. It’s exciting!
That’s all I can say without majorly spoiling the entire book for you so I’m just going to leave that there and end with this, Deviation was even better than the debut book of the series (and anyone who has ever read a sequel knows just how rare it really is for a book lover to say that).
I quite liked the first book, however, Deviation hardly impressed me.
First off, despite its shortness, it felt like even those two-hundred-and-something (depends on which edition you acquire) pages weren't filled up properly. I could describe it as we had a goal and a quick solution. Then again a goal and a quick solution. There was one ultimate target to be achieved, yet the goal-and-immediate-solution sequence rendered the whole story chunky with one big twist at the very end (read: literally the last two pages). What's more, the characters continually ignored the perils and difficulties of certain situations/plans/missions and pulled them off as if they had been a piece of cake. This fact contributed greatly to my problem of the book not being able to suck me in properly.
Another drawback was that the characters fell flat for me. After having read the second book, Ven is still the methodical, self-sacrificing girl for whom something clicks sometimes and then she spazzes out, but otherwise seems sort of detached and mostly all of her actions are in order to achieve said ultimate goal. I don't feel like I know her really, only that one, methodical side of her. And the same with the other characters. Even a little back-story would take the book to a whole new level in my opinion.
I'm kind of glad that Deviation turned out to be such a quick read. This way, I can say that in spite of the problematic areas I mentioned, I still enjoyed the action and for that, I can give three stars. Had it been any longer, fat chance I would have gotten terribly bored.
*I received an e-copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I have not been compensated in cash, by card, or any other way.
Deviation is book two in Hildenbrand's The Clone Chronicles, a series about controversial human cloning. I really enjoyed book one. I wish I could say the same about this one, but I found this book to be lacking the suspense and flare of the first book. It picks up right where Imitation left off. I almost felt like this book and the first one should have been combined into one longer novel. I think what was missing for me was forward momentum. This one felt like it stalled, quite a bit from the frenzy of the first book. The politics moved into the forefront of the plot and the romance did consume more of the story than I usually like. I didn't really get to excited about the way the clones were going to be used in the government. We did get introduced to a new character in this book, Neil, Daniel's imitation plays a big role in this installment. The other characters are all the same as last book. Titus becomes trickier and even more evil. Ven and Linc's romance blossoms. Again this book is told in a first person narrative from Ven's point of view. I felt like the pacing in this book moved quite a bit slower than the first. I wasn't as caught up in everything and this one wasn't able to hold my interest as strongly as the first one gripped me. Warning, this book ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger. I'm not sure when the third and final book will be released. Even though this book wasn't as exciting as the first one, with that crazy ending I'm vested enough in the series I will pick up the third book. I'm dying to know what will happen next. I'm crossing my finger book three will be the best in the trilogy. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Imitation. Just be prepared for a little slower paced book with a crazy incomplete finish!
I have previously reviewed Deviation before but a lot has happened since then! Heather Hildenbrand was picked up by a publishing company and rewrote it! So, of course I reread it! And I loved it even more than I loved the first version!
We pick up with Ven, Linc, Daniel, Melanie & more still trying to take down Titus Rogen. So many new things happen in Deviation that I'm not sure I can even tell you about them. I hate to give out spoilers, and I feel like the slightest detail is a spoiler!
All the characters are the same, fantastic characters from book one, Imitation. Ven is awesome. She comes across as fearless, even tho we know she is scared out of her mind. She has such a huge heart and wants to trust and love everyone she comes in contact with. Well, with a few exceptions. Linc is still straight yum. I love everything about him! And we get to meet his mother in Deviation and she is everything a mother should be. Daniel is still Daniel, but we get to meet his Imitation, Neil. Neil is just one more example that Imitations are people too. He has a heart and feelings just like anyone else.
There are so many twists and turns in Deviation that it will keep you on the edge of your seat. Questions are answered and more questions arise. And the ending? Cliffhanger. It makes me even wonder how they can get out of the situation they have been put in. I can't wait to read the next book and find out!
The even cooler part? Imitation was chosen to be optioned for a TV Series for NBC! How freaking amazing would that be?! So basically, what I'm telling you is that you need to read these books. You won't regret it. You will love them. I promise!
I have been on pins and needles waiting for this book. I absolutely loved Imitation and couldn't wait for more of the series. Well. I was not disappointed at all with this book, but now I have to wait for the next one. Why? Because Heather broke me. Yep. She did. She took this series to the next level and I can't think about anything else but what has happened and what is yet to come. I have other books that I am attempting to read, but I can not get my brain to stop thinking about Ven. And Linc. And Daniel. And the rest of the Imitations.
My heart absolutely breaks for Ven in this installment. She is so desperate to help her friends while keeping herself alive. She doesn't have many people that she can trust. And her forbidden love with Linc? Oh man. Heather Hildenbrand captured all of the emotions and suspense and urgency of Ven and I was able to feel all of it. I was so captivated by the story that I stayed up all night to read it. I couldn't NOT stay up and finish it. I absolutely, positively had to keep reading it come hell or high water. I'm glad I did, but damn; I'm broken. Heather took my heart and my mind hostage starting with Imitation and continuing the torture with Deviation. She's not going to release them until this series is finished. And maybe not even then. This series is one that you can't help but be enthralled with as you have no idea where it's going to take you. All I know is that I love roller coaster rides and this is one that isn't for the faint of heart.
Ok now that I have calmed down from ending of this book, I want to let you know about this read. This is one hell of a book, and it has a really hit you hard cliffhanger. I was thrown so much I almost though my e-reader. I kept thinking, how can it end this way? This can't end here. How could she do this? So I thought about it. Well one thing is for sure I have to read the next book, and maybe that is why she ended it there. This is a really good book, Linc is so in love with Ven, and would do anything for her. She is one brave sole for what she is doing and strong to take on Titus and the mystery man(wich you find out who he is and you will not believe how corrupt everything is) Then there is Daniel he is not such a bad guy afterall. It was amazing what he went through to help people like Ven. And when you Find out who she trusted that betrayed her It will be such a shock.
I sent a message to Heather Hildenbrand and asked her would there be a next book, and told her how i felt she told me.
Heather said: That she is definitely planning on a third book! And that cliffhanger was brutal but she is glad I enjoyed it so much and am so invested in the characters! she'll announce more info as it becomes available about a release date. And thanked me so much for reading!
I hope you enjoy this book as Much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do, they value your opinions too.
Alloy Entertainment and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
Deviation is a direct sequel to Imitation, with a cliffhanger ending that will leave most readers anticipating a third book. The pacing was better in Deviation than was in Imitation, with more character development and a better plot. The biggest problem I have with Titus Rogen is that he appears to be evil without real motivation besides power. There are major plot holes in the story, especially when having to do with the Imitations and the reaction of those in power to their changing situation. Without spoilers, all I can say is that I was dubious about the way Titus was handling the imitations until the very end. Although most readers might have had a negative reaction to the conclusion, it is the most genuine and realistic part of the story. Not reasonable by any standard of decency, but it was the most believable. I am torn as to whether I would recommend reading both Deviation and its predecessor, as it is clearly middle of the road for me. The premise is interesting, but the plot holes derail the story. For readers that are pure science fiction fans, this may not be the book for you. For readers who enjoy YA with a little romance and a twist of science fiction, this may be a book you will enjoy.
In Deviation, we continue to follow Imitation Ven, her bodyguard Linc, and her dear friend Obadiah on their quest to free the hidden community of Imitations so that they can walk freely among society without fear of termination. Ven's newfound bravery and ability to lie prove effective toward aiding their efforts. However, Titus Rogen is hellbent on hindering any plans they develop.
Though this is not normally the type of book I favor, I have grown quite fond of Ven and her posse and have been quite entranced with the twists and turns that accompany their mission. Ven has transformed from the quiet, timid Imitation that we first met in book one into a bold and brave young lady who is finally embracing the notion that she IS human regardless of her roots.
I literally sat on the edge of my seat during the action-packed scenes and clutched my chest at the tender moments. With improved details provided for settings and characters, it's not difficult to get lost in the story and feel as if you are Ven and you're racing against time to save your own kind from termination.

***I received a copy of the book in exchange for and honest review
Wow. That was honestly my first thought after finishing this book. I loved it! It had been awhile since I read the first book and I really liked how the author was able to integrate the reader again. I didn't feel annoyed at the information dump and the way she wrote made me think I read the first book yesterday. Ven is still the amazing, courageous girl we met in the first book and I loved to see her relationship with Linc develop. The characters were all so realistic and I was never tired of the book. There was never a dull moment and I loved how the author portrayed all of the characters. There new characters were also just as amazing-NEIL!!!! Titus remains the evil Creator that you just at want to lose. The Immitations deserve to be free and they are people too!! I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who read the first book. However, the ending will make you want to pull your hair out because you want the next book now.
Wow! Now things are really getting intense. I may have thought Titus Rogen was a power-hungry jackass before but he had only begun to show his evil tendencies! Just reading his name on the page makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Ven continues to be amazingly strong and seems to grow more human in her feelings and actions every day. She’s really starting to understand the pain of loving others. Linc is still his bad-ass, uber-sexy self. He’s a bit over-protective but that’s probably because he has seen what Titus is capable of. This installment of the Clone Chronicles is filled with action and breath-holding moments that make you wanna scream! But if you’ve read Imitation then you should already expect your anxiety levels to rise anytime Titus Rogen is involved! Plan to spend a few consecutive hours on this one – you won’t be able to put it down!!
~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~
Man, I couldn't get through this book fast enough!! I love this series. Ven is trying everything that she can to get the rest of the imitations to safety. But, there are things and people that are standing in her way. Linc is right beside her through everything, their love is undying and it is very strong.
Heather has done it again. She has made a book that leaves you with the "why the hell did this end? I need more, I don't want to wait, I need to know what happens" face. I just love reading what she comes up with. Heather is a fantastic storyteller. The way that she writes, makes you believe that there are really imitations of people out there. I can't wait to see what happens next!! Get this book now!!
Totally worth the cheap price for a fresh take on clones. well written, well edited. I would have paid more. Fun Read, and a well developed book.
The Story could take place today, any major town. Politically plausible and scarily possible soon. Characters are well developed and interesting. More in depth than the first book, and although I want to read more, the ending didn't leave the reader unsatisfied.
Clones are not a new concept. Replacement parts or people aren't a new idea. Somehow, Heather Hildebrand is able to make these sci first classics young, fresh, entwine a romance, and leave the reader enjoying themselves.
OMG, I have no words!! This was an excellent follow up to the first novel. Heather Hildenbrand is a cliffhanger genius.I fell in love with the first novel and this was no different.
