A savagely wicked new adult sci-fi serial blasts off with Fall, the first installment in The Cold Mark Saga...

Only one thousand Humans survived The Travel from the shattered Earth. Some Humans say it was their penance for crushing such beauty. Eighteen-year-old Braita merely thought it was pathetic - pathetic that her people had been that blind.

Now, the Humans live in the solar system, Kline, where three planets are habitable. Joyal, the smallest planet, is embraced by the Humans - their family to love as they had never loved Earth. Though a planet covered mainly in water is dangerous real estate to dwell upon.

Their worry turns into devastating reality when Braita's blessed village is struck by a tsunami. Population numbers must be kept to a minimum. Drastic measures must be taken. Braita's life is twisted in brutality when she is chosen as one of the three hundred Humans to be removed from Joyal...and sent to the Mian, the aliens to fear, on the planet Triaz.

Thrown head first into a barbaric world she knows nothing of, Braita must adapt to a dark life as a slave of the Mian society. Her existence depends on it...and possibly, the fall of her heart.

Like I'd said before, I hadn't even read the blurb properly. Or looked at the number of pages the book had.

I didn't know what to expect at all, except a phenomenal book, because when it came to SD I won't settle for anything but amaze balls. And I didn't have to. The book was phenomenal.

It was small but it packed one heck of a punch. In the heart. And ovaries.

WHY WAS THE BOOK SUCH A SHORT NOVELLA? GIMME MORE!

Anyway, I've never been into books with two guys in it. Guess there's a first time for everything. SD you have ruined me for all others.

THIS TO WHICHEVER FAIRY GODMOTHER LOOKS OVER ME. FORGET SHOES THAT DON'T FIT RIGHT OR A DRESS THAT'LL DISAPPEAR AT TWELVE OR A PRINCE. GIVE ME AN ARC FOR THE NEXT BOOK

I honestly don't know how SD managed to get so much into a book that wasn't big, but she has. Usually the emotions that this book made me feel, I feel in books that are gigantic. Amaze balls, like I said.

OMFG!

I didn't realize it was a serial or part of an installment! *Pulls out hair*

No, I did not pay attention even though it was mentioned in the first freaking paragraph of the synopsis. All I saw was it was by Scarlett Dawn and I fuckin looooooved King Hall and all that so I was like .. Shit, this outta be good.

And it was! It was so good. Well, the small 70 pages it had, that is... Acccckkkk why?!???? I have to wait until November now for book 2.

The beginning was a little too fast paced and I didn't understand how the smaller world require people to relocate to the neighboring 2 planets. I understand it was a tsunami - a small catastrophe. I just don't get how that equates to evacuating 600 people off planet for survival of species or whatever. It just seems ... Overkill. Too much.

But at the same time, that's not the point of the book. The point is she's here with these two guys whom I start to love and then ... And then .. This "ooooh damn, what's going on here? Descriptive narration please" scene happens in the book. She freaks out. She leaves ... (Naive little bitch -_-) I go to turn the page and ...

NOTHING. Why me? Frrrraaaaccccckkkk.

I love this book! It was way, WAY better than I expected, and I really didn't think it could be that good considering it was that short, but boy, I was wrong! Scarlett Dawn did it again!! She's brilliant!
'Fall' was great, though sometimes a bit hard to understand, but I can't wait to read next one!!

A nice start - The abrubt ending leaves you wanting more. It was just way too short but you can tell it has potential. Im glad it was offered as a freebie. I already went on to read book 2 but when I found it to be equally disappointing upon completion, I decided Im going to wait until all these serials are released so I can feel like Im reading an actual story.

Fall is the first installment in the Cold Mark Saga written by the fabulous Scarlett Dawn. At just 66 pages, Fall delivers an amazing story with a surprising amount of world building for its short length. I viewed this story as a futuristic science fiction piece that centers on the new-adult age group. There is also an interesting romance element in this book, but it does not take center stage. I was completely engaged while reading and was left with my jaw dropped to the floor wanting desperately for this story to continue. I cannot wait for the next installment Sink! At this time, Sink is scheduled for a November 2014 release date; however, since Fall was released early, I have my fingers crossed!!!

I gave Fall 4.5 stars, rounding up to 5 on goodreads.

Note: I have never heard of serials prior to Fall, but according to Amazon, "Kindle Serials are books published in episodes." I love this idea...although when it comes to Scarlett Dawn, she's such a great storyteller that the wait for the next book just kills you!

I love Scarlett Dawn's previous works so when the chance came up to request and ARC of her new series, I jumped at the opportunity. I read the synopsis and it sounded pretty great...honestly, it didn't even come close to doing Fall justice.

I went from guilt clenching emotion to laughing out loud back to guilt clenching emotion... Dawn infuses her writing with pure magic! Magic that makes you take the character's journey, pulling you in as an intimate participant of the story. I was completely amazed how enraptured I became by this novella length work, and how much I desperately want more. Seriously, way to leave us hanging!!! Please tell me book 2 is coming out soon...

Still reeling and dealing with the WOW factor, this new adult science fiction blew me away. If you are a science fiction fan, this is one book you must get.

I received this ARC copy of Fall from Scarlett Dawn in exchange for a honest review.

Fall is the first serial installment in Scarlett Dawn's Cold Mark Saga, a Sci-Fi light series. This is NOT a complete book.

We find ourselves on Joyal, humanity's new home, more than 300 years into the future. When Earth was destroyed by pollution and general carelessness, it triggered an exodus from the dying world. Merely 1000 humans survived The Travel from shattered Earth to their new home planet. The survivors have found refuge in the Kline solar system, which, in addition to humans are inhabited by two other life-forms: The deadly Mian on the planet Triaz and the psychic Kireg on Egyac. Joyal, by comparison, is the smallest planet and almost completely covered in water. Joyal does not allow for a large population, so numbers have to be strictly regulated. As a result, human skin-to-skin contact is prohibited and children are born in labs.

When a tsunami devastates the inhabitable land-mass even further, 600 people are sent to go and reside on the planets with their nearest neighbors, thus giving Joyal's remaining population a fighting chance at survival. As "luck" of the draw would have it, Braita and eighteen year old human from Joyal and her best friend Jax are sent to the planet Triaz.

Their lot is to live as slaves among this "barbaric" people, and Braita and Jax, despite their prayers for the contrary are separated once they land on the soil of their new home. Mainly because they draw the attention of Triaz's leaders during the arrival ritual.

Scarlett Dawn paints a very vivid picture of Braita’s brutal introduction to Mian society and her gradual acceptance of the strange relationship she is expected to embrace with the two Mian men, Leo and Malik, with whom she has unexpectedly bonded. Personally, I found this NA story so interesting because the culture, customs and physical differences between the humans from Joyal and the Mian of Triaz differ vastly. I can't wait to read more about Braita as she seeks to understand what her role will ultimately be with the two gorgeous Mians with whom she now resides. Speaking of gorgeous men: There is only one "adult entertainment" scene in the book, and it's between a bonded Vaq pair. (Meaning two guys.) It was beautifully written, and I absolutely loved the implications.

Even though I loved this first installment, I do have a few reservations. (Don't I always?) Said reservations may cause some sci-fi readers to object, so I thought I should mention them. First of all, Fall is very light on the sci-fi elements. Second: Scarlett Dawn describes a world populated by warrior men who form pairs known as Vaq. Each pair may choose to establish a harem of up to ten women. And now to my complaint: Why in the world would the author choose a name like Malik for one of the Mian? Not only does it sound very human, but it is also a name from the Arabic world, which, surprise, surprise, is known for its harems. Scarlett Dawn COULD have been more creative in her naming process. Just saying... Also, for an advanced world I would not have expected disposable plastic cups. (You know, pollution...)

Still, I loved Fall. I's a unique story, and I can't wait to read the rest. My only REAL complaint is that Fall is only 66 pages long and I wanted the WHOLE book. Hurry up, Scarlett Dawn, I need the rest of the story... NOW!

Middle of the road books are always the hardest ones for me to review. Books that I didn't exactly love, but I didn't hate either. Fall fits into that dreaded category.

On the positive side, I absolutely love the new world Dawn has created. The basis of her new world was the destruction of Earth, forcing humans to find a new, habitable planet. Which they did among a choice of 3 options. Joyal has become the humans new home planet, but that doesn't last long. A tsunami forces Joyal's residents to relocate once again, splitting up between the other two habitable planets. Both aren't seeming like great options, as both are currently populated by alien species so unlike humans.

Braita is assigned to the planet Triaz, which is home to the Mian -- the most undesirable of both the planets and the species. Any human who is relocated to Triaz is in for quite a surprise, as their new lives will be dramatically different. No longer under their own free will, Braita and her kind are intended to be slaves for the Mian people. I do like what Dawn did with the different species and their social structure and ranking system, with Vaq's and Plumas. That alone is enough to draw me in to the rest of the series. Braita as a character still hasn't grown on me, but I fully expect her to in the following installments.

As far as negatives go, I don't have very many. I knew going in to this that it was a serial, so I can't blame the author for making this so short and having it end on a cliffhanger. One thing that did strike me as odd though was her use of "timber" vs "timbre" to describe the males' masculine tones of speech. I fully expected a tree to drop at any minute when one of said males was speaking :D

Despite this being so short, I more than likely will give the rest of this serial a go in the future. I do like many of the elements Scarlett Dawn has created with her new world and I am anxious to see how Braita grows and changes with her new surroundings and people.

The writing is terrible, the premise of the story ridiculous, and the plot completely idiotic. I'm baffled by all the positive reviews. And world-building? There isn't any. Just illogical assumptions alternating with complete lack of description or explanation. For example, we're expected to believe that in other galaxies, on other planets, inhabited by other species, they eat the same foods we do--including apples, bagels, and spaghetti with tomato sauce.

SPOILER ALERT

How does sending a few humans to another planet to be slaves of the alien race in any way help the humans left on their home planet? That's what we're asked to believe, with no explanation at all. We're also expected to believe that our main character, a female in a society where women are property, jumps into a fight and kills a large (unspecified) number of the (bigger, stronger, and completely ruthless) alien men and is not punished, but rewarded? And then she immediately (yes, immediately) bonds with the two men who take her into captivity, even telling herself she can be happy with that life and that she's lucky. She's even OK with one of her captives reaching into a man's chest and pulling out his still beating heart. She's so OK with it that it doesn't stop her from sleeping in the room with him that night. It's only after she sees her two captors having sex that she's so revolted--because they are supposed to have eyes only for her, even though she thinks sex is gross--that she runs away. As to the men, we're expected to buy the scenario that the aliens would arm the human men with nothing but crude blades and then attack them with their full force, to see if they are worthy of being their slaves. If they wanted the men to be slaves, why put them in a situation where they are certain to be slaughtered? Nothing about this story makes any sense whatsoever.

Fall was released early! I decided to tackle this bad boy ASAP (sorry for the cheese. I may or may not have completely lost my wits), and here is my raving reaction:

Oh my god, you guys! This was amazing! I looooove this book!!! SO MUCH! I’m having serious issues explaining how much without overusing exclamation marks and my caps lock ;) I’ll keep this spoiler free.

How I have missed Scarlett Dawn’s writing! She’s incredible. I’ve been reeling since King Cave, and my book hangover from that one lasted ages! I have a feeling it might happen again.

Initially I thought this was a full length novel and not 100-page novella, but since I have an undying love for serials, I really didn’t mind. This end on a cliffhanger though, so be warned. I love cliffhangers, so I’m just incredibly excited for the next installment (which will probably be out sometime in November according to goodreads). I know I will re-read this by then, because I loved it to pieces. Seriously. This is so original! I have never read anything like it. I absolutely love the characters and the Mian’s world.

If you have read Scarlett Dawn’s Forever Evermore series and enjoyed it, I’m positive you will love this as well. I’m on a constant search for another great NA non-contemporary, and this is exactly what I have been waiting for. The writing is fab, the imagination is off the charts, the characters are diverse and well developed. And I didn’t find any of them annoying, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I completely adored all of them.

I loved (yes, I know I’ve said I loved this book (SO MUCH!) already, I’m just pointing out the finer details here ;)) the way Scarlett built the world in this book. All the tidbits of information about how the humans had evolved, their new rules, how they functioned in their society etc. I adored all the fancy names and the tiny look we got at some of the technology.

And the Mian! They live on the planet Triaz. They are tall. Like 7 ft. They have glowing eyes and very good vision, which makes them sensitive to light. This is why they also sleep during the day. They eat only once a week. They are physically superior to humans. They are violent.

A Mian household consists of a two Mian males and their Harem. The two male Mian are called Vaq, and they take care of their Harem, which is up to ten Mian females.

That last part threw me for a loop at first, and I thought was going to take some getting used to, but the dynamic in the household Braita ended up in was surprisingly easy to accept. There was a twist at the end regarding this that I loved the heck out of... More of that please! ;) I can see this going in a very interesting direction.

Another thing I loved was that Scarlett brought back the soulmates, or rather just Soul’s as they are called in Fall. But this is different from what she did in the Forever Evermore series. There the soulmates pretty much were insta-love on crack with a supernatural twist (I promise you that you can safely read King Hall and not be bothered by insta-love, though. The circumstances are different for the main character. So don’t let that deter you from reading it, if you haven't already ;)). In Fall it is a bond that connects a female to a pair of Vaq. She still has her wits about her, she’s not suddenly in love, but there is still something there.

So yes, this definitely lived up to my expectations and then some. I’m soooo incredibly excited for the next installment! Also, if you haven’t read any of Scarlett Dawn’s books yet, you should get on that right away :) Her Forever Evermore series is incredible, as is this. It is undoubtedly a favorite. I can feel the hangover looming...

Older edits from before the book was out:

Second excerpt was posted on Stephanie's Book Reports today! This keeps getting better, and I'm so excited to dive into the world of Mians on August 5th! *I also rated it 5 stars to bump up it's current rating a bit, hopefully the book will live up to it so it can stay put ;)*

Silently shutting the door behind me, I stared directly ahead. I had never seen a Mian in person. Down the long and brightly lit hallway, there was one standing where the walkway ended and opened into another room within the building. My feet would not move as I stared.

This Mian had to be seven feet tall, his very height intimidating compared to my five foot, two inch frame. He wore an imperial black robe with red embroidered embellishments. From my studies, I knew that the Mian were separated in warring factions of the east and the west. Though the stitched crest on his robe was a symbol of the planet Triaz, not of the two factions. This Mian was a delegate of the two, a litigator between the east and the west, but by the tattoo that rested next to his left eye, it clearly depicted a round symbol with a line through it. His origin was from the west. If he had been from the east, he would have worn the tattoo of a star next to his right eye.

And his blue eyes, they glowed quietly.

It intimidated me further, seeing the blue and white of his gaze so crisply. The Mian were predominately of the night. They slept during the day, because their eyes were particularly sensitive to light. Their vision was ten times better than a Human’s, along with their strength. Every weakness that a Human had, they did not. They were superior to Humans in physicality.

The Mian’s expression did not falter from stern impatience as he lifted one of his hands and gestured for me to move forward with a sharp flick of his wrist. He definitely did not seem impressed by me as his glowing gaze roved up and down my smaller stature. His mouth opened, and he barked in a heavy accent, “Come.”

I jerked forward, keeping my eyes on his.

First snippet came out today, and it got me all kinds of excited. Take a look:

The kitchen was normal, except for the severed arm in the sink. I held both of my hands over my mouth, and tried not to gag. “Please tell me that is not what Mian eat.” I hadn’t read anywhere that they were cannibals, but I was learning that our books on them were missing lots of information. “And please tell me that you have something other than that to fill my belly.”

Malik snorted and strolled to the colossal steel refrigerator unit. “That is for one of our pets.” He opened the fridge and gestured for me to peruse the contents. “Unless of course, you’d like to share with Blaze instead of having what we eat.”

I rushed to the fridge and firmly kept my eyes away from the gore…and didn’t think about what kind of pet Blaze was. My gaze raked over all of the bizarre items on the shelves. I picked up one container that appeared like chicken. “How often does a Mian eat, anyway?” I popped the lid and sniffed the meat. Nope. I put it back in a hurry, pushing it to the far back where it belonged, and kept rifling through the goods.

Malik leaned a hip against the counter next to me. “Mian eat once a week. It is all we need.” He shrugged. “Unless a female is pregnant. She’ll eat three times a week then.”

I tilted my head, and glanced up and down his muscular frame. I grunted. “No wonder. It’s not like you have many calories to burn.”

His thin black brows lifted. “Meaning?”

“Nothing,” I muttered, then bent and searched the lower shelves. I lifted a blue container absently. “Is this safe for me to eat?” It had smelled all right, and it appeared like ground beef.

“Yes.”

“Okay…” I straightened and shut the fridge door. “Where’s the pantry?”

He pointed to our left. “There.”

I hit the motherload of sane food in the dry goods section. Happy as butterfly on a sunny day, I walked out of the pantry holding dry pasta and tomato sauce. I grinned in pure delight. “Spaghetti with meat sauce. Yum.”

Still leaning against the counter, Malik crossed his arms and watched as I searched for pots and pans. “We do have a cook who can prepare that for you.”

“Nah. I can do it myself.” And make sure none of the blood from the severed arm made its way into my spaghetti sauce. “Have you eaten this week? Do you want me to make you some?”

His reply wasn’t immediate. He eyed my actions as I filled a pot with water. Eventually, he shrugged a shoulder. “I could eat.”

I did a small dance in front of the stove as I clicked the burners on. “Lunch for two coming up!”

My stomach growled in agreement.

I made a lot. I was going to eat!

I usually have a strict no partial “serial”, parcel reading policy (reading books with less than 100 pages in an unfinished series). If I want to read this type of series, I wait until all the parts are available to read. Exceptions have been made here....because Scarlett Dawn is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! (If you haven’t started reading the Forever Evermore series, you should.) So, I set aside my self-imposed rule and picked up Fall knowing full well it’s a serial installment. On top of this, it’s written with the fantastic prose and story-weaving that is Scarlett Dawn’s signature. Apparently, I’m a masochist… because this was darn good... and now I have to wait for more…ugh!

Fall claims to settle into the relatively unexplored sub-genre of New Adult Sci-Fi Romance. Although, it looks like it may also be steering into the erotica genre... A good portion of the story centers on personal relations, sexual attraction, and we do have a relatively erotic sex scene. Also, although our MC is 18, I did not see any hint of character growth or dealing with the growing pains of coming into adulthood that is hallmark of NA. But considering this was only 66 pages, I’ll reserve classification and see where Dawn takes it.

Here's a few points to address for the curious would-be reader:

POV:
1st person from Braita, our MC

What's the gist of the story?
Braita is taken as a slave to a neighboring planet. She is human and the planet she is taken to is inhabited by an alien species, the Mian. While there she catches the attention of two of the ruling members of the planet, Leo and Malik. She soon discovers that they claim her as their Soul and she is taken to live with them.

Is there sex?
Not much. At the end we have a little M/M action from a third party perspective. But it’s not really graphic. However, the setup definitely lends itself to the possibility of a threesome in future books. Or maybe not. The ending of the book has left me a little confused and little intrigued to how the story will play out.

Is there graphic violence? No.

How much romance is there?
None so far. But there is plenty of potential. The real question is with whom will it be? Will it be with the two alien men who have claimed her, Leo and Malik? Or perhaps we will see more of her best friend, Jax? Hmmm, I like that I have no idea right now!

How sci-fi is it?
We associate most sci-fi with space travel and aliens. Fall certainly meets this definition. So, if you aren’t a fan of aliens and exploring the idea of other planets, species, and cultures, you probably would need to keep a very open mind if choosing to pick this up.

Overall impression:
Ms. Dawn is a great storyteller and as usual I wasn't disappointed in her delivery at all. However, considering its length, I am unable to comment further on how I feel about the story on the whole. I have a more general sense of whether or not I’d continue reading the series. So, overall, I will read the next installment... although I am a little confused on where the story is heading... which is a good thing!

Print Length: 66 pages

Holy wow...not really a sci-fi reader but this book is strangely alluring. It has to be the writing style...it's completely unique to Scarlett. Full review to come!

**FULL REVIEW**

After Earth was destroyed, three planets that had been discovered and established, they became the new habitats for life forms through the solar system, Kline…Humans though only lived in Joyal. A peaceful planet. The other two, Egyac and Triaz were already inhabited by other alien life forms…one being deeply psychic and the other being a war society.

“The villagers racing for their lives through the streets…taken, the ocean now their coffin. The white houses…taken, the ocean flooding over them like they were the pebbles I stepped on. The church with the ringing bells…taken, the oceans floor its destination. Only the rush of water and wind was heard past the cries of the devastated. I stood shivering in the night, and prayed the blessed sun would be enough to heal out planet.”

Now, Joyal has been devastated and the humans have been summoned to find other places to live…for Braita and Jax, it means they could be potentially separated, or worse…killed.

Being chosen can be both a blessing and a curse. Hoping for the best, but fearing the worst, Jax and Braita go to the town meeting in order to discover their fate. Hoping they are together…on the peaceful planet of Egyac.

Except hope only gets one so far in times of need. Not only is luck against them, but once they learn what their fate is to be…

“We fought together as one, even as more Mian warriors blazed down from the bleachers. They wanted to eradicate the Humans in their midst. Those fifteen minutes were the longest of my life. I had never fought so hard against a foe who was superior on all levels of strength and speed. It took everything Jax and I had to remain standing and alive. But the halo-clock counted down its final tick, an alarm shrieking though the air that the fight was done.”

Wow. That is all I can say.

This book, or the start of it, as it’s a serial novella series, is absolutely unlike anything I’ve personally read before. I am not usually one to read sci-fi or fantasy of this sort and I am SO HAPPY I took a chance with Scarlett Dawn’s Fall. I knew the writing would be amazing, I just didn’t count on the story pulling me in like this one did.

This book is seriously like Hunger Games meets ET meets Mom & Dad Save the World meets Judge Dredd…I cannot wait for the next installment to come out, I have to know what happens!

Strap yourself in as the countdown to lift off begins ANOTHER amazing journey as told through Scarlett Dawn’s “out of this world” words and imagination! Fall the first installment in Ms. Dawn’s Cold Mark series of novellas proves that great things can come in small packages and be just as powerful as a tome many times its length.

Earth "revolted" against the abuse it received, to survive, humans scatter to the heavens, seeking refuge on distant planets. When the small planet of Joyal proves inadequate, 300 of its inhabitants are chosen for the “opportunity” to blend into the cultures of two other planets.

Braita is sent to a warrior’s planet and to the household of two of its most powerful leaders. After a brutal introduction to this new world, with their foreign tongue and sometimes shocking ways, she must make the best of a bad situation, but not without her own brand of courage and attitude.

Sound intriguing? It is, but far beyond that are the humor, the magnetic attraction, and the creatively magical mind of Scarlett Dawn who knows how to build a world, tell a story and bring her characters to life! In very few pages, I ran the gamut of emotions, fell headlong into this story and in love with Braita and her new “owners.” But, seriously, who can eat only once a week, about 6 hours is my limit and that’s only because I’m sleeping!

My rating : 3 Stars

This is a very interesting start for a dystopia. I'm not sure I got it all, maybe because I wasn't paying enough attention or maybe because the author tried to say too much in few pages but for instance I have no clue of why they left Joyal or why only 600 or else. I can't describe a single character, and even less the Mians, except for their gender.

Please can someone draw a Mian for me?

I know that sometimes I complain about the lenght of some books at the beginning, but here on the opposite, a few more pages wouldn't have been luxury. Some parts happen too fast, we don't even have a chance to realize what is going on, and something else is already happening.

Character weren't enough developed for me to say if I like them or not, but this triangle which IS actually an equilateral triangle (for once) sounds very interesting.

But this novella is a promising start for the book to come, which I look forward to read.

Wow! First off, just so you are aware Fall (Cold Mark #1) is a serial novel. In my excitement to read another book by my new favorite author, I didn't see how short this novella is... However, don't let that stop you from diving into this amazing new series.
This is a (very) adult sci-fi romance that is exceptionally original. The main character Braita is brave young woman thrust into a terrifying new world. Everything she's ever known is now different. This first novella gets you through the beginnings of how she ends up on the foreign world of Mian, and how she begins living with Malik and Leo. You'll be amazed at the journey you go through in just 8 short chapters, and I guarantee you'll be left wanting more. I absolutely can't wait for the next novella in this series.

This is absolutely superb. I love the world that Scarlett has created, together with the imagination and reflection of culture versus relationships.
The characters are individual and varied, together with that their unique personalities are also likable.

A bit of a cliffhanger here, and I'm holding my breath for the next novel.
Scarlett is definitely keeping a tight grip on her title as an excellent story craftsman, with a good grip on the high standard left by Kings Hall.

The only thing I will say for this one, is that I wish it were longer.
Still, if I don't have to keep waiting too long for the next novel - I can hang in there.

So I quiet enjoyed this book, short as it was... The ending was a little... Well surprising...

The characters are all pretty cool and also weird, I can't tell if I like Briata... She's spunky and all but... I dunno there's something I can't put my finger on...

I was introduced to Scarlett Dawn’s work through her Forever Evermore Series and was enthralled with her characters in King Hall and King Cave. Now she has built a world in another solar system and her Cold Mark Saga from every indication, as I read and re-read Fall, appears to be another hit series for Dawn.

Earth has been destroyed by its inhabitant’s carelessness, and merely one thousand former residents of earth survived The Travel (the exodus from their dying planet). They have found refuge in the Kline solar system on the planet Joyal. Flanked by two other planets and their life-forms, the deadly Mian on the planet Triaz and the cerebral Kireg on Egyac, Joyal is the smallest of the three and almost completed covered in water.

A Tsunami reduces the inhabitable land-mass even further, requiring some of the transplanted earthlings to go and reside on the planets with their nearest neighbors. As luck of the draw would have it, Braita and eighteen year old human from Joyal and her best friend Jax are sent to the planet Triaz.

Their lot is to live as slaves among this barbaric people, and Braita and Jax, despite their prayers for the contrary are separated once they land on the soil of their new home. This adult Sci-Fi story is interesting because the culture, customs and physical differences between the humans from Joyal and the Mian of Triaz differ vastly.

Scarlett Dawn paints a very vivid picture of Braita’s acclimation to Mian society and her near-acceptance of the strange relationship she is expected to embrace with the two Mian men, Leo and Malik, with whom she has unexpectedly bonded. Join Braita on her journey as she seeks to understand what her role will ultimately be with the two gorgeous Mians with whom she now resides. Fall is a unique story, and if you love Sci-Fi with a bit of adult entertainment on the side, you’ll love the beginning of The Cold Saga. I know I do, and can’t wait for Sink.

I give Fall 5 out of 5 stars.

I was provided an ARC prior to the book’s release and was honored to provide my objective review.

I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

Firstly, let me say that I am NOT a sci-fi reader - at all - but I really enjoyed Fall.

It took me a little while to get my head around who all the players were, but once I did this story moved full steam ahead!

This novella is pretty action packed, and though it is a short story, it packs quite a punch.

Braita (I am probably pronouncing her name and plenty of others wrong in my head) is a strong, feisty woman who you definitely would not want to cross! The men in her life - hmmm undecided about them at this stage.

Ms Dawn is one of the few paranormal writers that I read, and this is the first sci-fi kind of story of hers that I have read, but I am completely invested in this story now, and need to know what happens next.

“My life was changing so much; it would make a lesser woman lose her sanity.”

Scarlett Dawn is one of my go-to authors; If she writes it, I read it. Which means I was ecstatic when I learned that she was writing a sci-fi series. I love sci-fi and couldn’t wait to see what this author would bring to the table; and I’m thrilled to say I’m not disappointed.

With her usual brave and edgy writing style, Dawn brings us a unique new story of a young woman’s life being completely uprooted. It will take all of Braita’s strength and wits to survive her new life with her sexy captors (yep, sexy aliens!). She’s the type of female character that I love reading: smart, strong, and completely relatable even though her life couldn’t be farther from my own. I can’t wait to see where her story goes.

In this first installment of the Cold Mark Saga, Dawn has does some great world-building, given us action and intrigue balanced with sexiness and humor, introduced me to characters that I’m already invested in, and laid the strong foundation for a very promising series. Here’s the thing: this book is a novella and has a cliffhanger ending. If you don’t like cliffhangers, I would suggest adding this to your TBR and waiting until the story as a whole is complete to read them all together. That being said, I will be reading each installment as soon as I can get my hands on it and I have a feeling this is going to be an epic series.

*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Looking at the reviews I think most of us who have read this so far are starting our reviews off with “I don’t normally read sci-fi but…”. Starting mine off that way too. I don’t like the typical aliens invading Earth, green Martian men, shoot em to the end of the galaxy type of book. Thankfully, this is not one of those books. :D

Only 1000 humans survived the travel to Joyal from Earth, which we destroyed. Braita is one of the humans chosen to travel to Mian after their village is destroyed by a tsunami. Her friend Jax is also sent there, but they are separated.

I loved Braita, she is strong, courageous, and feisty. The whole story was fun, fast paced, quite a bit of action, and a little bit of M/M romance which sets off the choice Braita makes at the end…where we are promptly left hanging. Thank you Scarlett Dawn for that. :D

No, I knew going in this was part one. It’s just so hard to wait when you are wanting to read the next piece to a serial.

I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book, Sink, which Goodreads says is coming in November. NOVEMBER. Gah! That is forever away. I’ll just have to read King Tomb while I’m waiting! Love Scarlett Dawn!

Thank you so much for my copy of Fall!

I was gifted a copy of this book for an honest review.

So now's the time where I tell you I am NOT a sci-fi reader. I really get bored w/ all the lingo/mumbo jumbo and I just quit reading. I almost let that stop me but decided to plow on...how hard could 8 chapters be right?

OH MY GOODNESS! Scarlett Dawn is an amazing writer. I believe I've said that at least once in my reviews of her other works. She definitely worked her magic with this story for me.

There's a bunch of names I can't spell...probably am not even pronouncing their names correctly. Basically the planet Earth has come to it's demise and humans have "migrated" to other planets in a different solar system. The most peaceful planet is destroyed by a tsunami and they're forced to change planets.

Jax and Braita are two that have been trained for battle and are sent to the same planet. There they fight as one but are separated to separate sides of the planet - different factions if you will.

Braita is trying to figure out her role in this new planet. She's the SOUL mate to two of the most powerful males on the planet. Until one day...

I was given a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

For the second time, I started a series by Scarlett Dawn, and felt relief reading that first book. It was if I had been waiting to read it - even though I didn't know what would happen! This is also the second time I have been sucked into a series by her.

While reading it, I was on an emotional rollercoaster. One moment I would be laughing hysterically, the next I would be laying down - clutching my e-reader while I tried not to wallow in despair over whatever was occurring.

Getting to learn about the Main was awesome. I would absolutely love to read more about their culture. They were truly a fascinating race of people in comparison to humans.

I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Seriously. I am currently whining because I pretty much need it immediately.

Check it out. You won't regret it!

maybe it's just me, but I wanted 5 stars, but could only give 3. one demerit- I hate tiny installments. too much unnecessary cliffhangers, too often. second demerit- I can't un-see that last few pages. call me old fashioned, but a girl can't get into dudes who think they are hotter and "stuff" than she is. maybe other people dig it, but I'm way to possessive for sharing. now, I've suspended my inner prude for sci-fi before and no doubt I'll do it again, but the boys lost hotness points big time. although the items left on the coffee table was BRILLIANT and the kind of kick in your face emotion I love from scarlett books. also filled with her wonderful wit and the scene on the field was precious. no tattling, lesson learned. hahaha. I was reading this out loud to my hubby and had to take a giggle break. totally reading the next installment, like a junkie.

Disclosure: This ebook was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.

Fall is a wonderful novella by Scarlett Dawn. Following the feisty Braita, this fabulous sci-fi, action, romance opens up to an amazing new world, a world which the author describes creatively and with vivid detail.
Through tears of laughter, frustration and sorrow, Braita was a pleasure to journey with. I was thoroughly immersed into Scarlett Dawn's futuristic world and was left gasping for breath and eagerly awaiting this next in this satisfying series. A splendid read.

I think this has the ability to be a good storyline with interesting characters. However, this first book of the series was so short (only 8 chapters) I'm reserving any real opinion until I have more to build on. I really felt like I was just introduced to the story without much build up and then the book just ended. So we shall see..... I really hope the 2nd book has more to sink your teeth into.

I originally thought this was a novel but it's actually a novella - just so you know! And it is a great introduction to the series, don't get me wrong! But it just wasn't enough for me!! I will be picking up the next book because I want to know what happens but I could have used more to make me feel something for the characters. At this stage the aliens aren't hot enough and Braita bugs me.

An interesting but short start to this scifi series. Braita is a very enjoyable character to read and root for. She's thrust into a world and circumstances beyond her control and she learns to adapt and survive. I'm interested to see where this story goes and what happens to not only Braita and Jax but also Leo and Malik. The story left in a cliffhanger so be warned!

Wow!! Its a fast pace book.
Did I say I love this book?

Bratia is an 18 year old and her best friend Jax was send off to the other species to survive on a different planets. Very quickly her honorable actions had put her in the eyes of many "noble men"

What happen to Jax?
Who has choosen her?
What would become of her in this new world?

I wished it was a lot longer. I didn't expect it to only be 8 chapters but other than that the book was pretty good.
