12 Moments Captured 12 Stories Told Do you trust what you see? A rock only becomes a mountain when you broaden your view. We challenge you to look at the world from different… PERSPECTIVES
I was fortunate enough to be sent a free download of "Perspectives" by Darcia Helle, in exchange for an honest review. This is a collaboration of efforts; a series of photos that became the basis or the inspiration for the writing of twelve short stories. These short stories are written by two renown authors; Darcia Helle is an American writer and Maria Savva is a British writer. Martin David Porter is the British artist, who produced the photos, and came up with the idea or concept. The images are superb and give value to the story.
While the writing style of both writers is different, the message is clear. The reader is presented with twelve moments in time...all being enjoyable. I particularly liked "The Ocean's Song", "Repercussions" and "A Different Perspective". We all will take from these stories what is of meaning to us, based on our perspective, and allow it to be filed away in our memory, for reflection.
I love the concept of this book. The photographer Martin David Porter provided photos, and then Maria Savva and Darcia Helle wrote short stories inspired by the pictures. The stories and pics flow together perfectly.
First story left me with tears in my eyes. Second story a chill down my back and so they go on. This book will most certainly change your perspective on the people you surround yourself with and the benign looking stranger on the street.
Some of my favorite stories was “A Different Perspective” and “Repercussions.”
The book contains several genres like horror, romance, suspense and the paranormal. I highly recommend this delightful read and beautiful pictures.
I recieved a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Martin David Porter a Photographer provided the photos. Darcia Helle and Maria Savva wrote short stories about the photos. The writing style of each author is different the message we recieve is clear. We the reader are presented with twelve moments in time... We each will have our own perspectives on each story, what had meaning for us in each story. I enjoyed all the stories and the pictures . Two of my favorites Ocean's song and Repercussions. The book has several different genres, Romance, Suspense, Horror and paranormal. I highly recommend to anyone who loves to read books with all different genres present.
Taking inspiration from photographs is something I've used in my own writing and too with artwork from other mediums and I love the way these three talented people have both combined their expertise as well as produced a wonderful collection of stories.
The photographs have depth and meaning, bringing alive many emotions, not least those housed within those clever, poignant and imaginative tales - they may be short but they pack a punch.
The authors were sent six photographs each and these were used to stimulate the imagination. The result is excellent! The stories cover a range of genres and emotions; there is horror, thriller, the paranormal; guilt, poignancy and reality - all are to be found in this gem of a book.
I particularly enjoyed the whimsical “Repercussions” and the twists and turns of “Love and War”. I found “Cold as Ice” to be wonderfully surprising, as was the end of the rather philosophical “A Different Perspective.” The combination of superb photography and accomplished writing has worked so well and I thoroughly recommend this book to all short story lovers.
I was given a copy of the book by Maria Savva in return for my honest review. Thank you for the opportunity, Maria - I have spent a most enjoyable afternoon in the company of “Perspectives”!
What piqued my curiosity with this book was a blog post I saw online, which mentioned the short stories in this collection were inspired by a set of photographs. The photographs are certainly breathtakingly beautiful, and the reader can expect the unexpected with each of the authors' stories!
That one author resides in the UK while the other resides in the US gives the collection a nice contrast--enough contrast for the respective stories to stand apart from each other, but not so much contrast that it is jarring.
It is not just the first one or two stories that start off with a bang--the high level of impact and engagement continues to the fifth story and onwards! I like how the collection began with Ocean's Song, which is a short piece with a very tender, touching message (bittersweet, I would say). Other favourites include Gently Down the Stream (a psychological piece where the character's "past deed" catches up with him); Blowin' in the Wind (where there's a fine line between love and insanity); On the Road (showcasing the negative effects of stardom), and the last two stories.
These stories, along with the gorgeous photography, are bound to chill, thrill, soothe and shock--a very enticing mix.
I was lucky enough to receive this book free from Maria Savva for an honest review.
I loved this book and the whole idea behind its creation.
Maria Savva and Darcia Helle are two of my all time favourite authors so to have them both create this fabulous book was amazing!
Perspectives is 12 short stories created by 12 single photographs taken by Martin David Porter. Every single story was beautiful written and kept me captivated throughout.
5 stars for each story and well done ladies for an outstanding read.
