My friend Noah, who's quiet as a church mouse on here, rec'd this to me. What a twisted, naughty beast you are turning out to be, Noah. Smooches, dear one.
description

Will Falling Angels be for everyone? Not 'no' but 'HELL NO'!!! It's crazy dark and twisted as fuck. Arkady has been trafficked. He was 15 when he left Russia in a box and landed with the sadistic Marcus. Marcus sells him out to the highest bidder every chance he gets and films it all which has turned him into somewhat of a legend. He's also got him hooked on heroin. Lovely.
description

D.A.R.K.

The sad thing is Mr. Grace, who Arkady gets sold to, makes Marcus look like Gandhi. Mr. Grace is a monster. No two ways about it.

Troy is the detective who's obsessed with Arkady. He's watched all his videos, trying to find some sort of lead to his whereabouts at least that's what he keeps telling himself. Troy is also burned out, but has he lost all sense of a moral code? Will he be able to save Arkady? And what will he be saving? Is there such a thing as too damaged?

Ms. Waites sure has a twisted mind to come up with this. I've not read anything by her before. I'll be sure to gird my loins prior to the next read of hers; yet, as disgusted and uncomfortable as I was, I couldn't stop. I had to know. It's not pretty. It's nowhere near sweet. If you're looking for some version of an HEA, nope. Look elsewhere. There are some minor editing issues, but not distracting enough to lower my rating.

Thanks again to Noah for contributing to my continued descent into the deepest echelons of depravity.

I am shattered.💔💔

I don't think I understood the meaning of this story seven years ago.🤯
I'll have to blame my English which is far from perfect still, but much better now.

🕳 It's 38 pages only.
🕳 It is NOT a romance.
🕳 In fact, it's horror. Disturbing as fuck!
🕳 It's hardcore stuff and it has been tagged as BDSM, but hell if it is!
🕳 It is absolutely NOT BDSM.

And it shattered me.

Falling Angels is another short story by Cari Waites.
"Cari Waites is the evil alter ego of Lisa Henry."

This story is no longer sold separately. It can be read under a different title Stealing Innocents, a compilation of all works published in the past under Cari Waites pen name. Available on KU right now.

Innocent angels, desecrated by greed of man. Wings stolen and defiled they became Earthbound lost souls.

Falling Angels is definitely another dark, soul shattering story just like the rest of Cari Waites' work. Her stories are always unconventional and unpredictable. A story with sex trafficking as a theme combine with violence and torture of the body and soul is indeed heart-wrenching to read.

Despite feeling drained of hope, mutilated and stripped of humanity, Arkady is never ready to return to his maker. His will to live is like a self-sentenced prolongation of his agonies. He would live and breath and fuck for his masters. Their cruelty were relentless yet Arkady could never hate them. His biggest fear was to be worthless to his masters for that would only lead him to certain death. Arkady is crippled without a master.

Be warned that this book is not about love or redemption, it is about lost hope and dreams, total erasure of identity, harsh reconditioning of young men into mere sex object, a tragedy of lost innocence and lives. Even with most of the too hardcore stuff off-page, there's ample other disturbing events and elements to drag readers to the darkest void. Truthfully, I am actually finding it hard to feel the eroticism within its pages although it has body-modification which is one of my favorite kink in erotica.

4.5 stars. It's hard to find dark stories this well written. Stay away.

P.S. Seriously, ignore the MM romance and BDSM shelves. This is neither.

Chose this for a reading challenge to push my limits--and yes, I knew it was beyond them, but stupidly read it anyway. To say I didn't enjoy it is an understatement, and the underlying theme of hopelessness and futility is just the cherry on top.

Zero happiness.

My thoughts during reading and at the moment I finished it:

I was expecting something depressing and disturbing....

Damn, that is Cari Waites!

You have to know what you're getting yourself into!

But NO. Sorry.

I need at least a tiny ray of hope, even if it is an invisible one...

But here...

Never again.

What an unrelenting nightmare. I made the mistake of reading this late at night, couldn’t put it down, hoping for the best for the young protag, and woke up still disoriented and deeply disturbed.

Built around sex trafficking and horrific abuse and torture, this is ultimately about the darker side of human nature. We all know there are very disturbed, evil people out there, we hear about it every day on the news: kidnappings, abuse, torture, beheading in the name of religious fervor… it’s really about ego, power lust, and the bottomless well of human cruelty.

Arkady— he no longer remembers his real name— has the face of an angel; he is sold into slavery at fifteen to pay his father’s debt (the story starts three years later). His life of prostitution, porn films, continual rape and abuse, where he never sees the light of day, turns into being sold as a slave, with ongoing torture and body modification. Arkady hangs on to life by his teeth, groomed to do whatever it will take. The nightmare is that this is not pure fiction, that it exists in the real world for many young people like Arkady. This is a huge spoiler but a warning is necessary… if you’re into this kind of read, have at it. If you have any triggers at all stay far, far away. I like dark but this is beyond that.

I can’t rate this. I really, really like Waites' writing. I like the edgy walk of it. But this isn’t romance and it’s not erotica. It’s not erotic. It’s pure horror, without any of the entertainment value that genre can have. It goes on my ‘I can’t unread this’ shelf. Be warned.

My hands cover my eyes to stop the images from entering my brain but they end up just trapping them in there. Bouncing endlessly off the insides of my braincase. Horrible. Not the writing which is too effective. Hence, the horrible. I feel like vomiting now. My heart aches and so does my face. There is no way I can rate this. How did she do that in such a short story.

This was a very disturbing read for me. I may have gotten through it a bit easier is the slaves were grown men instead of poor young boys. I had to read this story as a documentary for educational purposes as I took no pleasure from it. It sickens me that such things go on in the world pretty much unchecked as law enforcement cannot get a toehold in these syndicates to break them.

A sad story of human trafficking, populated by monsters and victims. The torture is truly horrendous and there's a sense of hopelessness throughout that's a bit heartbreaking. A compelling and thought-provoking read.

I don't even know how to rate something this fucked up & heart-breakingly tragic.

Edited to add: Okay so I'm rating this on the quality of writing and the story told rather than on the plot specifics. (Because how is that even a possibility?)

Update: This wont frickin' leave my mind. I think it deserves to be bumped up to 5 full stars because of that alone. Never been affected by a story, especially not a 38-page one.
--------

4.5 I-felt-like-vomitting-while-reading stars

All the dark stories I've read before suddenly seem so fluffy after reading this. My goodness. 😩

38 pages that's truly one of a kind experience and will surely haunt me forever.

Tagged under "Loved the experience but ain't gonna read this shit again (gonna read all the author's books though! what an awesome writer!!)." 😂

I recommend this to those who are seeking for trauma - 1000% guaranteed.🤙 Will let you all know if I'll ever recover. Let's give it a few weeks or forever.

This feels like straight up everybody's unknown worst nightmare. 🤷‍♀️ And it's sad to think that these things happen in reality... I... cant...

I would also like to thank Jan, Shile, etc for always having great books in their shelves. 😁

[I'm basing my rating on the amazing writing, uniqueness, and how the story affected me (which is too much). Just deducting 0.5 for you know, lack of bits of happiness or some shit 😂]

Ok, WOW, this shorty packs a punch. Yes, it is disturbing, yes, it is mostly awful. But seriously, I could not read it fast enough. This is sex trafficking at its most sickening worst. I can't even remember how many WTF moments I had, but there were an awful lot in this very short span of a story.

It is mainly about one boy (or he is a boy when he is taken) who basically goes from bad to worse, and that is before he serves his initial purpose and is "retired." The master he ends up with is one twisted sadistic f**k. From the horrible treatment and abuse, to the body mods. Even after he is rescued, it is easy to see he will never really be whole or ok again.

Now, the ending. Holy one giant WTF kind of ending is that? I felt like I was totally edged and then forced into denial mode. There has got to be more to this story, and I want it. Please, Ms. Waites, give us a little bit more.

This is the last book I'll ever read by this author. The subjects she tackles in her stories and the struggles of the MCs are way past my comfort zone. They dive into gruesome and horrid.

Please heed the warnings before reading this: maiming, torture, violence, rape, abuse. And despair, terror, nausea and heart ache for me.

In these scant 30-40 pages, Cari Waites had me on a roller coaster of emotions for both MCs.

It was a very hard book to read and rate. It gets 5 stars for the agony it put me through. But I will never ever read again.

This is a powerful short story because of the emotions it evokes in it's readers. While reading this I felt complete shock, utter disgust, uncontrollable anger, the highest of hopes, & the depths of despair - just to name a few. Those who can finish reading the book will be effected differently, but there is no disputing IMO that the reader is affected.

I would highly recommend this book, but only to those who are very experienced in reading extreme dark erotica & also enjoy having their comfort zone mercilessly stomped all over.

Warning : Not for a weak heart. DON'T READ THIS, unless you're up for a tortured sex slave, human trafficking, rape, hard core BDSM, and NO happy ending.

I was torn between giving this 1* or at lest 3*
But decided after finished it, I can only gave 1*.
This is too fuck up, to dark for my taste.
"That" kind of slavery was really nauseated me, even there's a hint of a NO happy ending, but still.

I was pissed at the fckin ending. He was so close. False hope is what he got.

Well, that was thoroughly depressing and it kind of left me with a 'what was the point of me reading that?' feeling at the end. I know that human trafficking is horrendous and most of the victims don't have happy endings but, geez, a little hope, maybe? 1.5
