The Hunted

Rate this book
The second in the Sleeping with Monsters series, about strong women and the monsters they love, The Hunted is a BDSM-themed werewolf thriller.

As a call girl, Samantha never hoped for a happily ever after until she met Vincent. It didn’t matter that he was a mobster, for seven years their life was perfect – then he was betrayed and brutally gunned down by other members of the family. Now she’s on the run for her life, and the only thing she has to remember Vincent by is a silver locket with the phone number of a stranger folded inside.

Max is a queer mountain man -- and a werewolf. For seven years he’s been living off the grid in exile after his pack threatened his then-boyfriend Vincent's life. But when Vincent’s dying wishes send the beautiful Samantha to him for protection from the family, he knows what he has to do – honor his dead alpha’s wishes and keep her safe, no matter what.

In her grief, Samantha’s willing to do anything to get revenge, which Max tries to talk her out of – until he realizes his old pack was complicit in Vincent’s death. Then he’s as eager as she is -- but they only have each other against the pack.

Is she strong enough to mate with him? And if she is, is he strong enough to kill them all?

From the author of the Edie Spence urban fantasy series (Nightshifted, Moonshifted, Shapeshifted, Deadshifted, Bloodshifted) comes an exciting new paranormal erotica with sizzling adult scenes and explicit shifter sex.

Fans of Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse series and Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series will likely enjoy this book.

Samantha was a call girl with little hope for real love until the mobster Vincent made her his. Now Vincent is gone, a victim of the life he led. Armed only with a mysterious phone number that leads her to Vincent’s ex-boyfriend, Max, mountain man and werewolf.

Enter a world of revenge, betrayal and darkness where sex, violence and chaos are the commodities of trade. THE HUNTED by Cassie Alexander is a mash up of the paranormal and mild BDSM, laced together in a quest for revenge for the lover the two main characters have lost.

While explicit and heated, the sex was not passionate, and there didn’t appear to be a real romance happening. Both Samantha and Max seemed more enamored with the revenge they seek for the ghost of Vincent that seems to haunt them both.

Not quite what I thought it would be, not quite as free-flowing as I would have liked, but definitely a standalone that read well without having read the rest of the series. Revenge is understandable, but it was the driving force that cemented this couple and for me, it didn’t’ seem to be a strong foundation to build their assumed mate connection.

I was given this book by the author in return for my honest review through the TPE Bar or R2R program
3.5 stars

This book was different then what I was expecting, and not different in a bad way, just different. Let's talk about those expectations first.... For one I was expecting a BDSM book this didn't qualify in my world. There was a D/s aspect but it didn't have the kink I associate with BDSM. This didn't make it bad just not what I was expecting. The other was that I expected romance and although the romance was present in flashbacks it wasn't between our main characters. They did have sex, and it was hot, but this book was more revenge and getting to know you I got the impression the romance would come later. Kinda like now the revenge is done we've mated so let's get to know each other. Again not bad just not what I was expecting. So those were where my expectations and they didn't meet up with reality however I still really enjoyed the book I just had to let my idea of what I thought was gonna happen go.
So the story is about two people who loved the same man, they are thrown together by him in a time of crisis. As they piece together the events leading to his death it becomes clear that they both intend to get revenge and decide to join forces to do so. It becomes clear that the MCs are mates and if their late partner had lived it's assumed they would have been a triad. So knowing nothing about each other they mate in order to be strong enough to conquer their enemies. This story focuses on that decision and what was needed for revenge. The book ends with the possibility of their future now that they are both free.
Although I felt there were plot holes and the story didn't always work for me it was well written and I did enjoy it. Would I read it again I'm not sure, but I would definitely read more from this author

3.5 - 4 Stars

This author first came to my attention when I had the opportunity to read to review The Haunted, which I loved! So when I saw this instalment offered to R2R, I jumped up and down with my hand in the air, until I received a copy. But I digress.

I enjoyed a lot of things about this story, but a number of things didn't work for me either. It is told in alternating POV, so some of the story was rather repetitive, almost word for word in parts albeit from the other characters POV.

There were also a number of flash backs, which while important to the story, I personally found jarring.

SYNOPSIS - The Hunted is a BDSM-themed werewolf thriller
I found the above wording a little misleading.
MY EDIT - The Hunted is an BDSM erotic werewolf thriller, containing mf & mm interaction.

There are elements of power exchange, a lot of that being due to the shifter aspect of the story, for example 'she kneeled on the couch, offering herself in submission'.

Oh, I found it odd at the end of the book, when Max (were-shifter) declared

Those wee things aside, the story was engaging and held my interest from start to finish. Would I recommend it? Yes. Do I plan on continuing with this series, hell yes!

NOTE - This story can be read as a standalone. The only thing connecting the series is they will all feature a 'monster'!

I received this book from the author in exchange for a review.

In the interest of total honesty, I am a fan of Cassie Alexander's style, so her work automatically rises to a three-star read merely on her narrative approach alone. Such is the power, I feel, of a good story-weaver.

Where to begin?

Basics: We begin in the middle of an ambush. One of our two main characters flees for her life, through circumstances engineered by her boyfriend, she becomes involved with the other main character. A few flashbacks, both characters tell each other their secret (both of which the reader already knows), and we got a fairly rapid pace to the finale of the narrative.

What I liked: Ms. Alexander never feels compelled to "shoe-horn" intimacy or sex into her stories. The ways in which characters connect feels somewhat more natural, and it reminds me of other good writers I have discovered. On this particular story, I was extremely pleased with the gritty nature of both characters, their pasts, their struggles, and the fact that, though the finale is far happier than in the previous book in the series (The Haunted, review of which is available), there is room left for things to not go so well. Finally, I deeply appreciated that the intricacies of Max's "other society" do not dominate the story but provide a good depth to his outsider status.

My only complaint: I felt a little shocked by the homo-eroticism and questioned why Max was an outsider when clearly several members of his "society" wanted him to engage in the behaviors. If they assert their dominance over him by demanding it, why then is he ostracized for doing so. Just a minor issue, and it takes nothing away from the story.

I give this book five stars not only because it is of great quality, but because I sincerely believe that it represents one of the most engaging stories of its sort I have read in quite some time. The characters are kept tight and the edges clean. The narrative clips along and importantly, the flashbacks provide essential depth without becoming mired.

This was a perfect book to read on Halloween. Although in the same "series" as The Haunted, the books are unrelated and very different. Overall, this book was a fun read. Lots of sex and violence, but it was not off-putting.

The author switched from past/present and POV's from chapter to chapter. It really worked for me. I liked the slow reveal of each characters past.

Sex was used in this book as a form of currency, escape, need and romance. Violence was also used similarly. Looking back, I think it is interesting how the author showed us how sex and violence can open doors in different ways. There are elements of BDSM and M/M.

This by far is my favorite of all the Cassie Alexander books I've read. I sincerely hope there is a sequel to this one, as I feel there is so much more to Sam & Max. I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars because there are still some editing issues with the book (sentences where word suggestions and word replacements still live in the same sentence, and some improper word usage... "on accident vs by accident" etc. Overall though, this book was fabulous, the best so far!

***I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review***

***SOME SPOILERS***

The Hunted is a masterfully crafted tale of romance, suspense, and a hint of revenge. It is book 2 in the Sleeping with Monsters series I feel can be read as a standalone. It has a great deal of steamy sex scenes including M/M, M/F/M, bondage, & werewolves. To say a lot is going on in this book is to put it mildly. Weaved throughout this story are two out of the three MCs (Samantha & Max) POVs. From chapter to chapter to even each section within a chapter the author expertly transitions MC POVs allowing the reader to gain a complete picture to a particular situation and/or character’s personality. Details are brought to the forefront as new characters and/or situations are presented. This type of writing style reminded me of watching movies like Babel, Crash, & Disconnect. I did appreciate the multi POVs but I have to admit at least once I found it hard to follow the perspective change as I forgot who’s viewpoint I was reading. I eventually figure it out by the details given. All MCs (Vincent, Samantha, & Max) were likeable to me.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first page and roller coaster me through an abyss of elations and WTF moments. The opening scene introduces Vincent and Samantha (aka Sammy, Sam, Sarah) waking out of their sleep to gun fire aimed to kill them. Since this is the opening scene and everything is moving quickly, the reader has not been informed why Vincent and Sam are being sought after. You only know the duo is in danger and as preparation, Vincent and Sam have practiced escape drills in case they were located. The time has come to carry out their escape plan; only things do not go as envisioned. As Vincent urged Sam to leave him behind and get to safety, his goodbye had my stomach in knots.
“They’re not going to let me live. And I don’t want to watch you die”
Needless to say the heartfelt I love you and last kiss that many romance novels are known for are represented well in this short action sequence. While my heart was rapidly pounding reading this passage all I was thinking was someone queue the violin now please.

Sam, an escort, had a childhood any person could relate too. She was raised by her parents until they were killed in a car accident. Her grandparents were already deceased forcing Sam into foster care. Sometime while growing up she discovered she could dance. This is how Sam initially earned income until she broke her leg in a car accident. After her leg injury healed, a friend introduced her to the escort business where she not only quickly adapted the idea of doing what you have to do to survive, but meets future client turn boyfriend Vincent.

I like Sam even though I was perplexed by her at times. She desperately desired a Cinderella ending to her not so glorifying life as a prostitute. When in a jam instincts kicked in and her body craved pain and sex which she fulfilled leaving her with thoughts surrounding her actions to be dealt with on another day.

Vincent, a one tattooed, handsome and wealthy mobster instantly liked Sam upon their first meet and sexual encounter. He was very cool and always in control. He taught Sam about submission and punishment. He met with Sam every week for months under a pre negotiated price. When Vincent is informed by Sam’s pimp that he can no longer see her unless he pays more money, Vincent has other plans in store. After not seeing Sam for a week he mysteriously shows up at her place.

If Vivian from Pretty Woman could have had Edward rescue her heart early on rather than at the end of the movie, I imagine the scene would have played out something like when Vincent showed up to Sam’s tiny shared apartment demanding she go with him.
“Move in with me. Be with me. All the time. I want to know what you’re thinking in the middle of the night. I want to open my heart to you. No secrets between us. Can you handle that?”
Head over heels in glee, she goes. Although Vincent said no secrets between the two, Sam kept her end of the bargain while Vincent did not.

Role play & bondage was fun to read with Vincent and Sam. Two of my favorite scenes are chapter 3: the dialogue when Vincent tells Sam he is going to make her cry for his enjoyment. Sam’s response is nothing less than brilliant and real. The sex here is more intimate and the character transformation begins. Chapter 5: Sam is tied up in a chair, blind folded with a ball-gag in her mouth. Also, in one hand is a ball she is to drop to end the “fun and games.” What she discovers and how she handles it is intriguing.

Max, is the werewolf who was Vincent’s bodyguard at one time. He also has been in love with Vincent for the last seven years and the reason Vincent had his one and only tattoo. Max and Vincent had a three year relationship that abruptly came to an end to protect the both of them. Max’s pack did not approve of his M/M sexual conquests which led to him being an outcast. WTF moment with Max and his pack members.

I saw growth in Max over the course of the read. He was kind of shy, mystifying, and unsure of himself even. By the end he is a force to be reckoned with. Kudos to the author for writing Max in this light.

When Sam comes into Max’s life another WTF moment hit me. The more I think about it I was disappointed in the characters for sleeping together. Sam is in pain over losing her love and Max doesn’t even know Vincent is dead yet. This is early on in the book so Vincent’s only been dead for 1.5 hrs now give or take. Sam once again is using her body to cope and Max is just horny. It just felt too soon for something like this to happen. My dishearten state to be honest predominantly lied in the fact I was not convinced Vincent was really dead.

Vincent appears in both Sam and Max’s memories in the form of flashbacks. Each character recounts the relationship they had with the protective gangster. Although Sam said Vincent never mentioned Max by name, Vincent’s love for Max was evident by the pawprint tattoo he had across his heart and by intrusting Sam into his care.

You also feel the love Vincent had for Max during their first anal encounter and when Max is shot and Vincent confessed he does not want to lose him. It is during this talk that Max revealed he’s a werewolf. The shower scene is oh so yummy. As previously mentioned the role play and bondage scenes with Vincent and Sam were fun, but I felt Vincent and Max had more of an intimate connection. I do believe Vincent loved both Sam and Max for different reason however.

Favorite passages within chapters:
Chapter 8: the letter Sam reads to her written by Vincent
Chapter 12: Max describes to Sam the mating process. After reading this, I wanted to mate with him.

The Hunted has so much detail packed in its pages it hard to sift out what to review. The ending... all I can say is that I hope there is a follow up. There has to be(fingers crossed)! The Hunted does have some minor punctuation and grammatical errors that are easy to overlook due to the fast paced and engaging storyline. This is my first experience with Cassie Alexander's work and I plan to check out more. If you’re into PRN, ménage, and action sequences this book is for you.

I really enjoyed this book. This was the first book that I have read by Cassie Alexander and I was definitely not disappointed. I was drawn into the story of Max and Sam. I was definitely sad at moments and I was really hating some of the things that happened. At other times it was really spicy and I loved the intimate scenes between Sam and Max. This was a great story line and I did not want to put it down until I was all the way done. I will definitely be checking more of Cassie's stories out in the future. Definitely a new recommend author of mine.

Although this one is very different than the other novels I have read by Cassie Alexander, I liked this one no less. This relationship did happen very quickly, but that fact is acknowledged by the author and characters, setting them up with a future to figure out the rest together. I liked that, although Vincent brought them together, in the end, he is to remain a part of their past and not a ghostly participant in their relationship.

Both characters were raw and unique. I loved that Max was a wolf and that Vincent was a mobster and that Sam becomes interlaced with both of them. The story had me on my toes and I couldn't put it down. I loved the realistic wolf traits Max had, like the knot and the struggle to contain himself in human form because his wolf wanted to mate with Sam so much. I got teary-eyed a little when Vincent died, and we experienced flashbacks with him in them. Max was a complex character and he seems so rough but so gentle. Sam was realistic in her situation and I really liked that she struggled with her past and has trouble with adjusting to her life with Max. The only thing I would fix is maybe more detail into the characters' thoughts and feelings so we could feel a stronger connection to them. Loved it.

A dark and thrilling paranormal read. The action in the story was never dull and pack a punch to keep me interested in the outcome of each situation. It was appealing to see Sam and Max’s meeting for the first time and the determination they both have to avenge Vincent’s death. The flashbacks to see the love Vincent had for both of them was different yet deep with each individual. I liked how Sam and Max’s common love for Vincent ended up with both of them finding love for each other which turned out to be extra steamy and hot.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I read this book a little while ago, but I had to let it settle a bit before writing this review.

Spoilers ahead, be warned!

There was a lot wrong with with this book, such as the fact that the main character had sex with the werewolf, hours after her boyfriend was killed, just to feel something. It didn’t matter because she used to be a prostitute and already had so many men use her body before. No, I didn’t much like this book.

I don’t recommend this book to anyone. This book is very problematic and not very good.

A very intense storyline! Beginning with a murder and ending with revenge, this book takes us on an extreme roller coaster ride throughout, as we discover more about Vincent’s plan. Max & Samantha find they have a great deal in common, and the flashbacks gives us an insight into their backgrounds. This is a very intriguing book.

Her Ex-boyfriend’s Werewolf Lover is an Erotic Paranormal Romance by Cassie Alexander. Samantha and Max, the two protagonists, relayed the story from their perspectives. After the former prostitute Samantha’s boyfriend died, she was forced to contact a stranger for help. Said stranger was no other than Max, her dead boyfriend’s ex-lover. A werewolf who lived away from civilization. Both characters juggled their mistrust for each other through the first few chapters. They shared the pain of their loss and the anger that followed. Sex came in between and after because why the hell not?

Cassie did an excellent job in keeping me invested in the characters. I was ready to be Max’s ride or die by the end of his first point of view. His sense of needing to belong tugged at my heart strings. The fact he searched for it in all the wrong places made him more human than he was. How many of us have made the wrong choices because of our fear? How many times have we given up on something to keep it safe, but to lose it in the end? I bet the answers for those questions were a lot. Fear is our greatest enemy. It’s there even when we don’t realize it.

I was a bit confused with the ‘Then:’ used to represent the beginning of flashbacks. However, I quickly recovered and understood what was going on. My recovery never lasted long. I was confused again at the second flashback. The previous act of using “Then’ and ‘Now’ was not present. It went right into the flashback which caught me a little off guard. It took me the third flashback to realize it was the necklace that signified the beginning and ending of a flashback. It would have been better to stick with one method to hinder confusion. I would have gone with the necklace method from day one.

While on the topic of flashbacks, I would have to admit how annoying some of them were. The first few made me understand why everything mattered. The flashbacks with Max entwined with the plot of the story. I knew why he did what he did. Some of them with Samantha were not needed. The story would be fine without them. They broke off from the exciting plot, shattering the connection I had with the desire to find out what happened next. It would have been better to stick with the ones that were needed, the ones that didn’t distract from the story but elevated it.

All in all, I finished the story and was more than pleased with the ending. The smut scenes were hot. Oh, the heat was off the charts. I would rate Her Ex-boyfriend’s Werewolf Lover four out of five stars. This erotic romance would be in my list of recommended books. Her Ex-boyfriend’s Werewolf Lover is for those readers who are trapped in their thoughts of not wanting to move on because of their loss, those held down by the fear of betraying the person they lost. It’s for all those readers who believe trust and communication are major factors in a strong relationship.

The interesting and fun thing about a paranormal story is that there are no rules. Whatever the author builds into their 'world' is the truth. In many shifter stories, the humans don't know about the shifters. In some they live together peacefully, in others they are hated. Totally up to the author. This was the first shifter book I have ever read where the pack mistreated a pack member because of his sexuality. It makes for a dark story.

The heroine, Sam, is a former prostitute who is 'saved' from that environment by criminal family member, Vincent. They always talked about and planned for an exit strategy, knowing the life wasn't safe. Vincent's exit strategy for Sam was to call a number that led her to Max, the werewolf who still loved Vincent but left to keep him safe. Vincent knew Max would also keep Sam safe.

There's a sense of fate to the story; that Vincent is leading his 2 favorite people to each other without their knowledge. Vincent's enemies were after Sam because she had what they wanted. Max, a werewolf and Vincent's former lover, has enemies in the pack because they hurt Vincent and they want to hurt Sam.

When Sam and Max got together and discussed their mutual love for Vincent, they realized they had to avenge his death. For Max and his wolf to be strong enough to take on his Alpha and his pack, he had to be mated. Sam readily agreed and they began setting up their elaborate and strategic plan.

Would the plan work? Would Max survive? What was Sam's role? What had the family and the pack wanted from her that was from Vincent? Would Sam and Max see each other again? Will there be an HEA for this troubled couple?

I truly enjoyed this different take on a werewolf/human story. Great writing. New author for me. I'll be checking to see if there are other books. One thing about the style is that it swings back and forth from past to present, allowing peeks into Sam's and Max's lives before, during, and after meeting Vincent.

Her Ex-Boyfriend’s Werewolf Lover
By Cassie Alexander

I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Vincent meant the world to Sammy but gave his life to save hers. After his death, she had to complete the well-rehearsed getaway scheme they had practised. Practising in case a desperate moment arrived where they needed to escape cleanly and quickly. Unfortunately, one such day reared its ugly head, tearing her world apart and separating them forever.

Thrown under the protection of a stranger, thanks to Vincent’s prior arrangement, Sammy didn’t yet know the link that flowed between them. Max, a were shifter, mentally unprepared for the enigma that is Sammy, is inexplicably attracted to her, but is it Sammy he loves? Or Vincent’s odour that still lingers on her body?

“ I didn’t fight him, I clung to him and he to me, like we were one another’s life preservers in a storm-tossed ocean. ”

I loved this story, and it was not one that I expected. The pain Sammy and Max share runs deep, both with a troubled past but sharing one love that reared them out of a murky depth. Thrown together, grieving together, loving together, easing their loss in each other’s arms. After everything that Sammy has experienced in her life, I like how she is still determined, believing that she can shape her destiny and accomplish whatever she desires. And she does exactly that.

Cassie Alexander’s storytelling is impressive. I will advise readers to pay strict attention to the POV in each chapter as it changes and it can confuse at first.
The book has a significant amount of erotica and domination, including of the same sex — sensitive readers may wish to abstain from reading it.

I recommend Her Ex-Boyfriend’s Werewolf Lover to readers who enjoy this genre and are not offended by explicit scenes.

I think while reading this story it was important for me to remember who the characters were. One was a self professed "whore" Sam, who had been saved by a made-man mafia gangster Vincent. The other a werewolf, Max, a former street fighter turned bodyguard then lover for Vincent. These two characters both share a very complicated backstory and very complex emotions about Vicent

Their story centers around the lose of Vincent. He is what drives them forward and together until they are able to shop it on their on. Looking back on the story, the author will use "real life" coping mechanisms with lose in this story for her characters as a way for them to handle the situations they are in.

I know some readers may say, "The characters move fast since he just died", etc but I applaud the author because no one handles the lose of a loved one the same and often tend to revert to old habits to cover the pain.

While I did enjoy this story, I felt that some parts could have been fleshed out more. Max was a character seemed more of a glimpse than a whole. His time with Vincent a moment in time. I also felt like there should have been a little bit more interaction between Sam and Max in order to establish a need to want to move the plot in the direction that dictated the ending. Overall interesting read

Trigger Warning: Rape and Abuse is mentioned in this book.

Surprisingly good book. Sam and Max was brought together by their love for Vincent. Vincent was a former gangster who had a relationship with Max and when it ended he met Sam who was a prostitute at the time.

Vincent and Samantha were a couple for 7 years and she stood by his side as he dealt with his ongoing illegal affairs. Those same affairs that got him murdered. Vincent already had contingency plans in place in the event of his death and those plans led her to Max.

Max story was heartbreaking. He was a Werewolf who was disowned by his pack for being bisexual. Max was used and abused by the male wolves in his pack and once he got in a relationship with Vincent his pack turned on him.

It almost seemed as if Vincent had plans for Sam and Max to end up together if anything ever happened to him. Max and Sam made a plan to avenge Vincent's death. In order for Max to be able to take on the Alpha of his pack he needed to be Mated. Sam agreed to Mate Max and they put their plan in motion. After everything was said and done both Sam and Max were separated for 2 years before finding their way back to each other.

I was happy that two tortured and damaged souls were able to find their HEA after experiencing so much loss.

This is the story of Samantha and Max who are survivors and Vincent the man who loved them both. Vincent and Sam are on the run from those who are trying to kill them and when they catch up to them Vincent makes Sam grab a bag they had put together earlier and leave him. Sam knows this is the end for Vincent and hates to leave him but does because she know he wants her to live. Vincent sent her to Max because he knows Max can save her. Samantha and Max must work through their differences in order to get the vengeance they need to move on from Vincent's death. Max and Samantha find out they have more in common than just Vincent while they work on a way to get revenge for Vincent. This is a well thought out novel with a lot going on but it all comes together in the end. There are a lot of flashbacks to give you perspective but I think a lot of them could have been left out, hence the 4 stars. But a well written novel, fast paced and steamy with a couple of hero's who you would not think would or could be hero's. It was a good thoughtful enjoyable read. I was really excited about this book. Bisexual heroes, lost lover, two people trying to fit the broken pieces of their life. Great premise! But sadly this book didn't deliver on it as much as I wanted to. Max and Sammy have poor chemistry and I kept feeling like Vincent was cheating on both of them.

The world-building was a bit confusing. Max is bisexual and this makes him an 'abomination' but all the other werewolves sexually abuse him for their own pleasure. I couldn't understand how their community worked. Are they all gay accept the alpha? If not then why are bisexual men 'abominations' it made no sense.

The spice was good, but because there was no connection between Max and Sammy I just lost interest in it. Also, I couldn't tell who was speaking at any given moment, like who's POV I was in until Max talked about his wolf, but Sammy didn't have anything that made her notable. I thought the first scene was going to be from a guy's perspective until I realized 'Sammy' was a girl.

This was a fast book, but, I don't really recommend it unless you want a fast book to burn through.

The story touched me very much. Something new and different that I was not prepared for. This is not another paranormal love story. For me, reading it at times was difficult and difficult. But isn't that what life is like? Constant struggle every day that everyone has to win. With a lot of hard work and exceptional sacrifices. For me, this is the story of two people who, through pain, find the greatest strength they hide in themselves, namely love. I didn't blame either of the two main characters for the decisions they made, no matter how difficult they were, because they simply had no choice. I really liked that both Max and Sam grew and developed. They showed how strong their characters are. I also really liked the role of Vincent. Because he was the driving force that brought our two main characters together and made them so resilient. The twists and turns were so unexpected and unpredictable to the very end. The story was extremely interesting and intriguing for me. With a wonderful ending that each of the characters deserved.

Thank you to BookSirens and author Cassie Alexander for the eARC to read and review.

Where to begin!?
After the loss of her beloved Vincent, Sam follows their plans and escapes following Vincent’s instructions. Following her instructions leads her to Max who is Vincent’s Ex.

This book is was brilliant, read it in one sitting as I just could not put it down. I felt Sam and Max’s shared pain at the loss of Vincent, whom they both loved deeply.

The character development was really well written and I loved how the two realised that they had more in common than their mutual love for Vincent.

I especially adored Max’s story and background. I found that the flashback scenes for both him and Sam really added to the depth of their personas.

The sex scenes were deliciously spicy and added to the overall sizzle of the book as a whole.

Love and Vengeance . . .

Vincent and Samantha (“Sam”) are on the run from thugs trying to kill them. When it becomes apparent that there is no getting away, Vincent has prepared Sam and sends her away from him. He sent her to his ex who was a werewolf and would be able to save her.

Samantha and Max, through their love of Vincent, will do what they need to do to get vengeance for Vincent’s being killed. Although Max had broken Vincent’s heart, he is the reason Vincent had a wolf print tattooed on his chest. So she knew how much he had loved Max. The only complication now is that Max needs a mate to give him the strength and power he will need, to let him be an Alpha. Because only an Alpha can defeat Syd. Can Sam love him because he was important to Vincent? Is this what she wants? Can they get the vengeance they both need for closure? And, more important, are they ready to be mates for life?

Received this book as an ARC reader for free and leaving my honest review.
I have to say I loved this Shifter Romance. It had a little bit of everything wolf packs, mafia (the family) ties as they call it. A l lot steamy.

Little burb about this book.

Sammy is a former prostitute who meets Vincent and he is her "john" for a while. He ends up saving her but he is in deep with "the family" and its been dangerous. They form a bond and fall in love. It's been very dangerous. Something bad happens and he sends her away. Then here comes Max an ex fighter in alpha fighting who was Vincent body guard and ex-lover he left to save him 7 years ago. Theirs a lot of steamy parts between Vincent and Max and then Max and Sammy.

It is definitely a must read if you love shifter romance and also don't mind scenes that are m/m and m/f. I was serious how the storyline was so good and no dull parts. I couldn't stop reading until I was done. This is a book I'd definitely read again.

Book Title: Her Ex-Boyfriend's Werewolf Lover
Author: Cassie Alexander
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance
Rating: 5/5 A hot smut book
Quick opinion of book: Smutty Fun
Why I chose this book: Was in my recommended section
Date started: May 29th, 2025
Date finished: June 10th, 2025

Summary: A former call girls mobster boyfried gets gunned down. But he always plans for things to happen. She was given a locket she was told to only open if he died. Inside was the phone number of his werewolf lover who left him several years ago. Together they get revenge and find new love.

My Review: I was honestly suprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It may have been the fact that the two main male characters are bisexual or the kinks of light BDSM and spanking that were involved in the book. I overall found it a hot sexy read that I would recommend to people who enjoy erotic gangster romances or even just a good revenge story that has smut in it.
