“Do you know what you are to me?” She shook her head as he whispered to her. His mouth was doing incredible things to her and she wanted more. “Mate? You’re my mate. Do you know what that means?”

Her body seemed to come alive at his words. She struggled to pull from him and he let her go, but he didn’t back off. She moved back from him as far as the wall and tried to get her mind to function again. She was not going to be his mate, not any man’s.

“You have to go. I won’t bother you anymore if you do the same for me.” He moved to within a foot of her and she put up her hands. “I don’t want you here. Please, you can’t want me as a mate. I don’t…I’m not even sure that this isn’t some ploy to get what you want. Or money. Is that it?” She looked up at him as he started cursing.

Hunter Emerson and his brothers answered the request of a pack looking for a new Alpha and moved to Sommersville. Since they were all Alphas, Hunter didn’t have a clue that he was the new Alpha until he arrived. It didn’t sit well with him at all that a woman on pack land held herself in recluse and wouldn’t answer and pledge herself to the new Alpha. What she could be doing there on that big estate with no one around to witness… His mind reeled with the possibilities―none of them good.

Slone Morris had an understanding with the local pack―leave her alone and she’d let the pack stay on her land free of charge. It was as simple as that. She didn’t deal well with people. But the new Alpha in town wouldn’t take “Fuck off” for an answer.

Slone’s past threatened to rear its ugly head at every turn. There was one―someone she thought she trusted―who didn’t want the past dredged back up. He was determined to stop her―at all cost…

Been done before!
This story was an easy read. Chances are that you have already read this story. It is nothing new to the plot or genre. This story has been done before, and it feels like the author missed a good opportunity to add a fresh take to the plot. The reading was pretty brutal. Confusion overall about which character was actually speaking or performing an action.

'Hunter' is the first book in Kathi S. Barton's "Emerson Wolves" series and what a dynamic story this one has turned out to be. If you've read the blurb then you know the Emerson men, all six of them, are wolf shifters and had sent in an application for Alpha of the pack in Sommersville. None of them knew which one was Alpha until they arrived and found out it was Hunter, the oldest. Pete, the alpha leaving, filled in what he thought was the pertinent information Hunter would need before handing over the reins. Miss Giles owned all the land and buildings used by the pack, did the repairs, and paid the taxes with the understanding that she was left in peace and was not disturbed. If something was needed she could be sent an email and would correspond that way. Yes, she was a wolf but Pete hadn't met or seen her in all the years he'd been there and didn't know anyone else who had either. To top that off, she owned most of the buildings in town, had the previous mayor fired, and threatened to close the bank. Hunter wasn't having this. Just what was this woman doing and he intended to find out because he didn't need someone undermining his authority with the pack or involving them in something nefarious. With all the twists and revelations in this storyline, it absolutely kept me turning pages quicker than I realized. It's hard not to anticipate what's in store for the rest of the brothers with all the new changes that have come into their lives.

I had the hardest time getting into the story. I couldn't figure out who was talking half the time. It just didn't flow well for me. I tried very hard to get into the story, but I couldn't. I mean I went back and I re-read chapters and was left more confused than anything. I confess, I couldn't finish the story.

Hunter

This is the first in a new series by Ms Barton.
Hunter is a born wolf, and the part-owner of a construction company. He has just been made alpha of a pack.
Sloan is a young recluse, a made wolf, was so abused as a child, that she hides in her self-made fortress far away from people.
It all starts when Hunter learns that someone has been taking care of everything and everyone in the pack. He is determined to meet this person and determine their motives.
Slone wants nothing to do with people. She is more than willing to help, as long as there is no actual face – to - face meetings.
Eventually Hunter and Slone meet, and he realizes that she is his mate.
Now, of course, the fun begins. Hunter works on bringing her out of her shell, and her past comes back to haunt her.
Come along to see how these two lovers handle all the danger and intrigue that follows them. Watch Slone grow as Hunter and his family become part of her life.
Ms Barton has outdone herself here. I LOVE this book, and am looking forward to more of the series.

J. M. Hunter had signed the order for Joey's apartment building to be torn down. Every time Joey tried to get into the Hunter building to see the lawyer to plead their case she could never get past the guard. Now, almost a year later, she was still homeless and working at a dead in job trying to save up enough money to get an apartment, one with heat, as well as electricity. Instead, she had to save Jesse's mom from dying in a fire and have the shit beat out of her by someone while doing it.

Jesse couldn't understand why the woman wouldn't just shut up and do what he told her to do. It wasn't as if he was trying to hurt her, but she had saved his mom, and it was the least he could to do make sure she had a job and a place to live. Of course, it had been pointed out to him several times already that he could have asked, but his way was much quicker.

Joey wanted to knock the man on his ass every time he opened his mouth. She had hit him a couple of times, once to shove his nuts up around his ears, and the second time to break his nose. But the man just didn't seem to understand the word no.

But when someone shot at her and killed her friend she had no choice but to let the powerful Hunters help her. It was that, or she'd be dead the next time the loony woman at the fire came gunning for her.

Then her grandmother came around welding her cane like it was an extension of her arm and accusing her of beating her. Joey had had just about enough of her when Jesse told her he was marrying her. Things should have been wonderfully tied up, but they seemed to be getting worse until she figured out she loved him. And she did.

Jesse Hunter is a good man but he is a little stubborn. Joey Foster is a lovely wonderful woman who is a great deal stubborn. Together they could be amazing...but would they ever get that far?

Jesse, the third book in the Hunter Series and a love story for all time.

Slone Morris has led a life full of ridicule and isolation after being found attacked by a wolf and survived. Slone has built a protective wall around her house to keep others out, she is part shifter and is aware of the other shifters in the community but that doesn't mean she wants to let her guard down.

New alpha Hunter Emerson is ready to get started with his new pack, but the conditions of the land and the elusive Slone Morris are leaving Hunter intent on meeting her. He believes she is an older woman, but when he comes face to face with her he is stunned by her beauty and the fact she is his mate. As much as Hunter is determined to claim her, Slone is not sure she wants a mate nor the company of any other person. It is a delicate road, but Hunter will do whatever he can to keep Slone happy and content hoping she will one day love him as much as he loves her.

Fascinating read, Hunter is a bit of a stinker in the beginning but once he realizes that Slone needs time to adjust, he is wonderful. I thought the whole story was entertaining and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

My review:

I enjoyed this book. It was different in the fact that it was Slone that did not want anything to do with Hunter. This was unexpectedly fresh and heartwarming.

Synopsis:

Hunter Emerson and his brothers answered the request of a pack looking for a new Alpha and moved to Sommersville. Since they were all Alphas, Hunter didn’t have a clue that he was the new Alpha until he arrived. It didn’t sit well with him at all that a woman on pack land held herself in recluse and wouldn’t answer and pledge herself to the new Alpha. I have to say overall this book was about 3.5 stars for me.

Slone had an abusive childhood. But unlike others her abuse has made national and global news when she's found looking like she was attacked by a wild animal, her father dead in a freezer, and her stepmother down the bottom of the river. 20 years later she still isn't comfortable leaving her fortress. She's set up the town and helps when needed, all she asks is that she be left alone. But the newest alpha just can't take no for an answer.

Hunter was a bit too much for me. It seems like he was all about me and screw everyone else's thoughts and opinions. When the elusive Slone refuses to meet Hunter or leave her fortress to welcome her new alpha he's determined to find out everything he can and meet with her.

I didn't really like Hunter. As I said above he seemed to only be about "me". I didn't feel much emotion between Slone and Hunter besides hate and lust.

The first book in the Emerson Wolves Series is all about Hunter Emerson. The eldest of six brothers in the Emerson family, Hunter is the new Alpha for a pack in the town of Sommersville, Ohio. All the Emerson boys are Alphas, but being the oldest Hunter got the job.

Slone Morris is a woman the is a bit of a loner. Having been converted as a child and considering she's a VERY wealthy Alpha female wolf....Slone really isn't very welcoming to the new Alpha in town. In fact she really just wants to be left totally alone. But when Hunter discovers she's his mate, nothing will be able to keep him from her.

There are many in this small town that don't take to kindly to the fact that there are shifters in their tiny town....ie. the town mayor and the local chief of police. But of course these humans are no problem for the Weres to deal with....considering they are both not exactly law abiding.

Get this great series and see how Hunter & Slone fire up the pages of your e-reader!

Loved It!

I'm a Kathi S. Barton addict as I've yet to read a book &/or a series of hers that I haven't loved. Slone had a very hard childhood before her Step-monster tried to kill her & after that when she became of age she became a recluse. Hunter, his brothers & father all moved into the same town that Slone lived to become the new Alpha of the local pack & because he's nosey & wanted to see & meet the woman who owned not only the land on which the pack lived on but also the buildings on that land he pestered her until she agreed to meet him & his father. Once they meet Hunter knows immediately that she's his mate & the obstacles that he faces with her. This book is a HEA story that can be read as a standalone; it contains sexy wolves, backstabbing "adopted" relatives, sex scenes, a new loving family & fast-paced action. I loved this beginning to another one of Ms. Burton's series.

This book was hard to follow at times. Sometimes it was because I didn't know who was speaking. Other times, it was due to scene changes that I didn't realize had happened.

I think this was intended to be a short and quick read with lots of heat and drama. It does give heat and drama, but I think a few more words, or even a symbol between scene changes go a long way.

I liked Cash (Hunter's dad) and the wild wolves that banded together for Sloan. There wasn't really a focus on the pack and pack life like in other stories, so I found this to be different (not in a bad way, mind you, just a different focus). I can tell that the pack will have their hands full with a few of the townies.

I felt that the story was unbelievable at times. I know its PNR, but there are some things, like relationships and trauma, that should be "real-ish". I did enjoy the drama, for the most part so this was a 2.5 star book but the cover bumps it to a 3.

I just didn't get it at all. Way too many characters introduced too fast, no idea half the time who was speaking, and it was way too much work trying to figure it all out. A woman who has locked herself away in a fortress for years and refuses to see any humans other than her "stepfather' gets sexually attacked by her so-called mate in an office building, has his father and all five or six brothers move into her fortress, and she is fine with it? Hunter didn't give a crap about Sloan or her feelings. Taking her for the first time in a law office was not sexy. It was assault. And sex with the wolf was just gross. Hunter's father was the best character in the book.
My biggest problem with this book, besides it being confusing, was the dialogue and the 'telling' instead of showing. There was no emotion in any of it. Just words on paper.

A new release and series from Author Kathi S. Barton featuring shifters!! Yes, please! And dense Alpha's........Kathi writes them so well. Hunter is about as dense as they come and I found myself saying "dumba$$" on a lot of occasions. He really is! The Emersons are taking over a pack and moving on to property that is controlled by one person...Slone Giles. No one sees her, no one talks to her and she has been safe her in self imposed cocoon for most of her life span. Unfortunately, Hunter Emerson is one stubborn wolf who doesn't give up trying to get what he wants, and he wants to meet her. When Hunter and Slone finally do meet, sparks will fly, and they fly hard! Throw in a bit of mystery and some wolves into the mix and we have another fun series to enjoy.

What a unique twist on the typical shifter series. Slone was quite interesting, determined and amusing in her refusal to be seen or be involved with the pack. Hunter has come to be the new Alpha and he feels threatened by this female who demands nothing but to be left alone while she provides for his new pack. The two strong personalities class without fail leading to some amusing situations that tend to make Hunter look like a jerk. Slone's history is so heartbreaking but it made her into the strong woman she became, just what an arrogant jerk needs in a mate. The mating dance was amusing and while there were several emotional situations I found just as many instances to smile. A great start to this series and I am excited to start reading book 2.

Where to begin Slone didn't have it easy she was turned into a werewolf not by choice to to save her life .. But the whole process of the change didn't take she was missing some healing power and stuff like that .. She was a loner and liked it that way .. Hunter is the new alpha in town that she had hired and also did not know Hunter was her mate ... Hunter asked for a meeting they came face to face only to find that they were mates .. This is a start of a brand new series and book book is off to a great start , can't wait to read the brothers yummy !!!!!!

Hunter

This was a excellent read from start to finish. Hunter is a true Alpha who wants what he wants we he wants it and what he wants is answers to the mysterious woman (Sloane). Sloane has been through a hell that no one should have to endure and just wants to be left alone and the new Alpha(Hunter) won't stand for it. From their first meeting to their last this couple has chemistry that will just knock your socks off and the sex OMG. With the Emerson men being plenty I can't wait for the next man to meet their mate.

This was a great read. I loved seeing how Sloane grew out of her shell. From everything she's been through, to the end, she's one of the most favorite characters I've read lately! Hunter was hot! I can't wait to see what the brothers all get up to. One of the things I think holding this back from 5 star is that there isn't much shifting! It's a Wolf book! One of the things I enjoy about these types of books is all the shifting and what not. I would have loved more of that in these books! Either way, this is one hot and interesting story to read! I could't put it down!

Normally love this author

Kept reading this book hoping it would get better, it doesn't. A wealthy heiress is traumatized at six years of age and locks herself away in a house on pack land which she takes care of, while cutting herself off from the pack. The new alpha is a moron and he is so insensitive.
