Amy Andrews is an award-winning, best-selling Australian author who has written more than forty contemporary and medical romances. Limbo, with its blend of romance, suspense, humour and touch of the paranormal is quite a departure from her usual fare.
When the ghost of a murdered mother begs for her help to save her kidnapped daughter, Joy Valentine, country singer and funeral home makeup artist, knows the police won't take her seriously so she reluctantly turns to the one person who might believe her, disgraced ex-cop turned private investigator Dash Dent. The police think baby Isabelle is probably dead but Joy and Dash are convinced Joy's ghostly vision was genuine and set out to find the missing infant.
Though still a romance novel at its core, Andrews establishes an intriguing mystery surrounding the disappearance of the murdered woman, and her missing daughter. Dash and Joy slowly piece together the scant evidence available to determine exactly what happened on the day Hailey and Isabelle went missing, and where the pair have been for the six months prior to the discovery of Hailey's body.
The characterisation is wonderful, I really liked both Dash and Joy, who are well rounded protagonists with interesting back stories. I loved their chemistry, the sexual tension between the mismatched pair is palpable and there are a couple of intimate scenes that really sizzle.
The cast of quirky supporting characters including an unconventional clergyman, a brothel madam and two horny goldfish, are equally delightful.
There is lots of humour, often found in unexpected places and while there is a little in the way of action, there is plenty of tension and suspense. The inner city setting gives the story a modern urban feel.
I finished the book in one sitting and I'm hoping Amy Andrews will follow up Limbo with another soon.

Holy crap, that was so much fun to read. From the country-singing punk heroine and the ragged and rugged ex-cop hero, to horny goldfish, a brothel madam and an excommunicated priest, Limbo is everything I love about Amy Andrews, and like nothing I had expected.
While this is different to her usual work, trust me, Limbo is worth branching out for. It is wonderfully funny, full of mystery and with a cast of characters guaranteed to plaster a smile on your face.
Joy and Dash have some major league chemistry, and not just in terms of 'special cuddles'. I loved these two and would happily revisit their world anytime.
If you love your romance with smart, kick-arse characters, engaging dialogue and a liberal coating of 'magical Twistie dust', Limbo is all of what you'll want!

My View:
In the words of the author this book is “urban-noir/paranormal-lite/mystery/romance mash up” and I would add PI in the mix, and a great mix it is too. This is a great contemporary feel good romp that had me smiling and laughing out loud. The characters are quirky, flawed and very very real. I had visions of Tom Selleck’s Magnum PI as the male protagonist, the female lead – hmm, maybe a young tough version of Rachel Griffiths works for me I think. (And when I am reading I don’t usually visualise the characters but I did with this book!)

This is a book you read for the pure pleasure, indulgence and enjoyment. The language is colloquial and so very Australian – so conversational and real. The settings – dark dingy bars, rural towns, urban decay, a mortuary, a brothel and the next door home office all work a treat; they seem so real I recognise all of these places from previous lives (yes I worked next door to a brothel once upon a time –outer city, next door to a welfare rights organisation, just looked like an ordinary house – though the limousines that stopped out the front weren’t too ordinary!) The crimes – kidnapping and murder handled respectfully and lightly – there are no gruesome, blood soaked walls covered in brain splatter here, no psychopaths or serial killers lurking in the dark. Surprisingly you even end up feeling a little sorry for those involved in these crimes, the choices they made were terrible but you can understand, though not condone, their action. There is nothing black and white in this story – so many shades of grey.
At its core this is an urban romance so be prepared for a few hot and steamy sex scenes.
I think the strength of this book is the author’s ability to present characters that are so realistic and likeable, even the minor characters in this book are well drawn, quirky and with back stories that engage and leave you asking to know more about them. I particularly liked the power given to Eve to run a brothel that actually catered to the choices and lifestyles of the woman working there- the employees are treated with respect and have rights the same as those in any other job – the right to work in a safe environment and without harassment, fear or pressure. If only that was the case everywhere, in every occupation.

I was in a bit of a reading slump when I picked up my tablet to start reading Amy Andrews’ latest novel, Limbo – and what a way to come out of it!!! Amy drew me in from the opening lines by Dash and I felt myself slowly falling in love with this ex-cop/detective with twenty-seven years experience.
Three years ago, Joy Valentine met a friend of her older brother’s in a bar. One thing led to another and Dashielle (Dash) Dent became more than just a memory!
Now, after her international failure as a country singer on one of the world’s largest reality television shows, she’s back in her hometown working as a cadaver make-up artist in her father’s business. When the ghost of the dead woman she is preparing for burial appears and asks her for help, Joy knows exactly who to call on for assistance. After all, one night of passion is not all that her and Dash have shared and she knows that he’s the only other person who will believe her “woo-woo story”.
It’s not long after that Dash Dent, single father of Katie and disgraced ex-cop turned PI gets the rundown from Joy. Unfortunately, when they make contact with the police, they refuse to believe there is a possibility that little Isabella could still be alive but it doesn’t take much for these two to put their heads together to try and solve the mystery.
As they try to solve the puzzle of the missing child whilst getting on with their everyday lives, Joy’s presence brings the unresolved sexual tension (with the assistance of Simone and Ralph) to the fore and it’s not long before Dash begins to think of the feisty but caring young woman as more than just his friend’s little sister.
Together with Katie, who stole the show with her little personality; Eve, a brothel madam who has a beautiful soul; Stan, an ex-communicated minister who displays unusual messages on his Church’s outdoor sign and who also has no qualms about playing AC/DC in Church; and two horny goldfish going by the names of Simone and Ralph, Limbo makes for some great mystery, suspense and self-combustible love scenes with Amy capturing all the salient elements of what I enjoy in a novel – character, depth, emotion and oh baby, some lip-smacking sexy scenes.
Her dialogue flows naturally from the day-to-day lives of Dash and Joy, adding meaning to their everyday trials, tribulations (and speculations about Ralph and Simone) which helps her create fully-drawn characters with the humour being an added benefit to the story as it balances out the sexual tension which totally boils off the pages.
While Amy may feel she has gone out on a limb in breaking with her traditional romances and giving her readers something different to what they have come to expect from her by using elements she’s never attempted before (see an interview held with Amy at AusRom Today), after reading Limbo I can honestly say that, while she may feel that way, for me (a long time reader of romance and all its sub-genres), her combination of comedy, mystery, suspense and romance is an absolute winner and I’d go so far as to say that both Stephanie Plum and Erica Jewell may very well have a rival in their midst – believe me when I say you will not want to miss this!
In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I highly recommend this to all lovers of romance and its sub-genres.
I’m excited that this is the first in a new series and I can’t wait to see how these lovable and quirky characters grow and what they get up to next. Can I just say that I’d like the second book now please!

I’ve read a couple of books from Amy Andrews before and I have loved all of them. Of course when asked to read Limbo, I thought okay, why not. It’s different from Amy’s previous books. I just didn’t know how different.
I’m not even sure how to classify Limbo. There’s romance, a lot of it. There’s mystery and a ghost that starts the whole book off. What appealed to me was a ghost asking a cadaver make-up artist to find her missing daughter. I think going in, I was expecting there to be this over the top comic vibe about the book. Yes, there are definitely some over the top things happening, but not as over the top as they could have been. I’m sure this was the author’s attempt at lightening the seriousness of the story up.
What I loved about Limbo was the mystery aspect. After being missing for six months, the body of Hailey Richardson turns up. With her dead, police assume her now one-year-old daughter Isabella is dead as well. But, while preparing Hailey for her funeral, cadaver makeup artist Joy Valentine gets a visit from Hailey’s ghost, pleading with her to find her daughter. Hailey leaves very few clues, but Joy knows that she has to help this woman out. With no one else to turn to, Joy seeks out former cop now P.I., Dash Dent. After they take their information to police, they are essentially dismissed. Knowing that they are baby Isabella’s only hope at being found, the two set off to do just that.
I also loved the characters. They all have more depth to them than what you first see. Joy is a goth girl with pink hair who was raised in a funeral home and has a singing voice that could bring a person to joyful tears. Dash is a single father and former cop who happens to live next door to a brothel. Eve is the brothel owner who is insightful and helps to take care of Dash’s daughter. You have an unorthodox priest in Stan who has no problem with AC/DC being played in church.
I’m happy this is a series, because I want to continue to get to be apart of these characters lives. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next for everyone.

I've just DNF a chick-lit book filled with romantic angst that just really took me on an emotional ride that I really did not need/want. Limbo has been on my TBR just as long as that book but it looked to be a completely different sort of read so decision made. THE. BEST. DECISION!
A paranormal mystery romance filled with a strong but vulnerable protagonist, a scruffy "ugly-handsome" PI, a clue from a ghost, and sexy fun vibes were exactly what I needed. Joy Valentine grew up in a funeral home (family business) and has seen her share of ghosts around. However, this is the first time one spoke to her & begged her to find her baby who's kidnapped to reunite her with the baby's father. Joy had reservation about going to the police with her ghostly encounter and decided the best course was to consult this PI who was her brother's friend and with whom, she had a very hot one night stand 3 years ago. Sparks flew but finding the baby is top priority, right?
I read this in a single sitting because I could not bear to put this down. To my disappointment though, there is no further books!!! There goes my hope for a weekend binge. Joy & Dash story isn't quite finished (not at all to my satisfaction) and as this book was published in 2015, I don't think we'll see any more. A complete shame because this was a fun and half romp through BrisVegas and I ship this pair so much.

This book was so different and unique, I mean, just read the blurb! It makes you sit here and scratch your head wondering if all of that could even work. I know I did. I think had anybody else asked me if I wanted to read it I'm sure I would have thought this probably wouldn't have been a ME type of book and I would have found a polite way to say thanks but no thanks! Thankfully it was Amy Andrews who asked me and I did read it because when it comes right down to it, it was very much a ME book and I had so much fun reading Limbo.
I really enjoyed the murder/kidnapping mystery of the book. I mean, there was lots of other stuff going on that was funny and at times steamy like every other Amy Andrews book I've ever read, but I was so invested in trying to figure out the who, the how and the why. That's what really kept me turning the pages as quickly as I could. And the paranormal aspect to Limbo made it that much more intriguing. A cadaver makeup artist who has a history of seeing ghosts? It's a fantastic and fun idea.
There are so many unique and complex characters in this book. Joy Valentine is, well she's hard to describe. I mean, anyone who voluntarily puts makeup on and makes bodies presentable for funerals I will never understand! It's just creepy! But she's a lot of fun. She's very quirky and funny, yet at the same time she also had moments where she was very frustrating. One of the things I loved most about her though was how open minded she could be when it came to people's lifestyle. Though I guess if you wear black nail polish, have a pink streak in your hair, rock out to Johnny Cash and see the ghost of the body your patching up with putty and makeup...you probably do need to have a very open mind and personality.
I always end up falling hard for the guys that Amy creates and Dashiell Dent is no different. The name alone is all kinds of sexy! If the mystery of the book is half of what had me turning the pages, Dash would be the other half. He was just so fascinating. He's a scruffy PI who's very smart and good at what he does but also he's a very sweet and doting single dad. Every time his daughter Katie would be around his place to visit I just wanted to aww because he had such a great relationship with her and she had almost this hero worship thing going for him. It was really sweet.
The relationship between Dash and Joy was a mixture of hilarious, steamy, sweet and very frustrating! I loved how well they worked together on the case. How naturally, and easily they would bounce ideas of each other while they were investigating. Joy is obviously not a detective of any sort but she was every bit as important part of figuring things out and it was fun watching her really throw herself into everything. On a more intimate level, despite the major age difference between them, Joy and Dash had such an intense chemistry and all I can hope is that by the end of the series these two will come to their senses and quit fighting...well, everything!
I think the only thing that made it difficult for this to be a smooth read through for me, and had me stop and rereading a lot, is the fact that I'm not very familiar with a lot of Australian slang or day to day lingo and so there were phrases or words that would come up that I wasn't familiar with. I've never really immersed myself in that area, so there were times I'd come across something that I wasn't sure of and I'd figure it out just by what was going on in the scene or with the sentences surrounding it. Though that's not the fault of the book that is more on me really.
This was quite a bit different than the other stuff I've read from Amy Andrews but I loved that about it. It was fun and quirky and I am totally hooked. I can't wait to find out what happens next and what other cases fall into the laps of Joy and Dash. Or what's to come of the endearing brothel madam Eve, or the funny and intriguing priest who puts messages up on his church sign like Who's your daddy? Ah! I adore Stan! There is just so much fun in this book and if you're a lover of mystery, romance and paranormal, although the paranormal at least in this first book is very light and in the beginning, then I highly recommend this book. You get all three mixed into one and as I've already said about a hundred times in this review it's such a fun read!
I'm very thankful to Amy Andrews for the opportunity to read and review this book. I'm hooked and I can't wait for more!!

Thankfully it was Amy Andrews who asked me and I did read it because when it comes right down to it, it was very much a ME book and I had so much fun reading Limbo.
I really enjoyed the murder/kidnapping mystery of the book. I mean, there was lots of other stuff going on that was funny and at times steamy like every other Amy Andrews book I've ever read, but I was so invested in trying to figure out the who, the how and the why. That's what really kept me turning the pages as quickly as I could. And the paranormal aspect to Limbo made it that much more intriguing. A cadaver makeup artist who has a history of seeing ghosts? It's a fantastic and fun idea.
There are so many unique and complex characters in this book. Joy Valentine is, well she's hard to describe. I mean, anyone who voluntarily puts makeup on and makes bodies presentable for funerals I will never understand! It's just creepy! But she's a lot of fun. She's very quirky and funny, yet at the same time she also had moments where she was very frustrating. One of the things I loved most about her though was how open minded she could be when it came to people's lifestyle. Though I guess if you wear black nail polish, have a pink streak in your hair, rock out to Johnny Cash and see the ghost of the body your patching up with putty and makeup...you probably do need to have a very open mind and personality.
I always end up falling hard for the guys that Amy creates and Dashiell Dent is no different. The name alone is all kinds of sexy! If the mystery of the book is half of what had me turning the pages, Dash would be the other half. He was just so fascinating. He's a scruffy PI who's very smart and good at what he does but also he's a very sweet and doting single dad. Every time his daughter Katie would be around his place to visit I just wanted to aww because he had such a great relationship with her and she had almost this hero worship thing going for him. It was really sweet.
The relationship between Dash and Joy was a mixture of hilarious, steamy, sweet and very frustrating! I loved how well they worked together on the case. How naturally, and easily they would bounce ideas of each other while they were investigating. Joy is obviously not a detective of any sort but she was every bit as important part of figuring things out and it was fun watching her really throw herself into everything. On a more intimate level, despite the major age difference between them, Joy and Dash had such an intense chemistry and all I can hope is that by the end of the series these two will come to their senses and quit fighting...well, everything!
I think the only thing that made it difficult for this to be a smooth read through for me, and had me stop and rereading a lot, is the fact that I'm not very familiar with a lot of Australian slang or day to day lingo and so there were phrases or words that would come up that I wasn't familiar with. I've never really immersed myself in that area, so there were times I'd come across something that I wasn't sure of and I'd figure it out just by what was going on in the scene or with the sentences surrounding it. Though that's not the fault of the book that is more on me really.
This was quite a bit different than the other stuff I've read from Amy Andrews but I loved that about it. It was fun and quirky and I am totally hooked. I can't wait to find out what happens next and what other cases fall into the laps of Joy and Dash. Or what's to come of the endearing brothel madam Eve, or the funny and intriguing priest who puts messages up on his church sign like Who's your daddy? Ah! I adore Stan! There is just so much fun in this book and if you're a lover of mystery, romance and paranormal, although the paranormal at least in this first book is very light and in the beginning, then I highly recommend this book. You get all three mixed into one and as I've already said about a hundred times in this review it's such a fun read!

Joy is exactly the kind of heroine I love--a little edgy and offbeat, quick witted and sarcastic but also with vulnerability and compassion. I thoroughly enjoyed her adventure, although pacing was a little slow in the middle and the paranormal element was so light/brief it might has well have not been there at all. This is a mystery with a lot of romance, but no HEA -- it's clearly designed to launch a long-running series. The heat level is pretty high between Joy and PI Dash Dent, the hero, although all the references to him being an inappropriate "old man" were offputting at first and seemed rather silly later when they revealed he was only 36 and about 7-8 years older than Joy. (After that I kept picturing him as David Harbour from Stranger Things.) I adored some of the supporting characters like Eve and Stan as well. Hoping there's a followup coming!

I wish I could give this 4.5 starts because it's an almost perfect romantic read/mystery for me.
Joy Valentine is young and alternative, a touch jaded but at heart, a good person. Dash is the older, disgraced cop and single dad, more than a touch jaded but has no trouble discerning right from wrong. He and Joy are fiercely protective of those they call friend - even if they've just met.
When Joy goes to Dash with a ghostly tale involving an ongoing police investigation, Dash uses his tenuous influence to help her. The plot is fairly basic (these are not spoilers since they are revealed in the book description) - murdered mom seeking help from beyond the grave to find her missing daughter. If you're normally put off by the "hocus pocus" aspect of a story don't be. It's really a VERY minor detail of the overall plot.
Together they navigate the skeptical police and a powerful attraction that goes against their better judgment. The sexual chemistry between these two is palpable thanks to the wonderful writing of Ms. Andrews. You can hear Joy and Dash inside your head as the story unfolds. And you'll want to read this for the incredible cast of characters. I don't know who I liked more - Joy and Dash, Eve, Stan or Lance. They are all dimensional, likable, fun with great backstory that intrigues without bogging down the pace of the story.
There's a strong sense of setting - I loved getting to know Brisbane (BrisVegas, baby!) through Dash and Joy's eyes. Even the use of colloquialisms didn't bother me because they are obvious or explained without it seeming like an explanation.
If I had to lodge a complaint - it's why I couldn't go the full 5 stars - it's the ending. It's a bit anti-climatic for me, though satisfactory. I wanted a little more involvement on the part of Joy and Dash in the culmination of the story. It's like they bring you to the door of the party, then leave you alone. A touch disappointing for me personally. Still, the foundation is here for a great series. I'd definitely read more of this series, and will definitely try out the author again.

Limbo is one step further away from Amy Andrews usual romance fair via her urban family book Holding Out for a Hero.
We have in Limbo, a cast of characters to carry us into a multiple series (The Joy Valentine Mysteries).
Our heroine is Joy Valentine, a not quite made it singer who grew up in her family's funeral parlour. While she doesn't usually "see dead people" there is an incident that triggers her looking for help to solve a mystery.
Dash is a former cop/Private Investigator. A friend of Joy's older brother, they had a brief fling when she was on her way overseas three years ago. So he's the obvious choice to ask for assistance.
The supporting cast of brothel madame, renegade priest and his son, Dash's tweenage daughter, some former police colleagues and a pair of goldfish are all well drawn and provide a strong background for the main characters.
The mystery was well thought out and worked well keeping me intrigued right to the end.
The romance. Well this is not a romance as such. Joy and Dash have residual chemistry but it's clear that this is more likely to be a series arc rather than a quick HEA.
Amy Andrews does smexy really well and the tension between the two main characters is off the charts. Until a little incident with Dash totally left me flat as a tack and thinking please don't bring he and Joy back together at this point. But as I mentioned, this is not strictly speaking a genre romance and Joy and Dash are not a "couple" as such at that stage. *deep breath*
Overall this is a really well written story. The mystery is light, the romance is steamy but not fully realised, the setting is colourful and interesting. A good beginning to a series.

Let's get the obvious out of the way first: what's not to love about an Amy Andrews novel?! With more than 50 books to her name and a writing career spanning over two decades, it's clear that Andrews has a strong reader and fan base and for good reason—she knows romance, delivers on the HEA we're craving, and comes up with deliciously meaty storylines and divine characters to boot.
So, was I a little surprised to see Andrews steering away from contemporary and medical romance and into lite-paranormal romance? Admittedly, yes.
Should I have been worried about this new direction? Absolutely not. Andrews nails her foray into paranormal/mystery romance sub-genre.
The story itself centres around Joy, a cadaver make-up artist, and Dash, a disgraced ex-cop now private investigator. Both main characters are really well developed, both with engaging backstories, and the chemistry between them certainly progresses both the story and their individual development. It was also refreshing to see such strong supporting characters and hopefully this will be expanded on with another story in the series.
As with all Andrews' novels, the romance is as prominent in the storyline as the main characters. The chemistry between Joy and Dash is palpable, there is genuine sensuality between the two, and the sex... well, true to form - Andrews' offers some sizzling scenes!
Limbo serves up romance, mystery, loads of humour, and even a ghost in this quirky, fun filled romance that will certainly have you engaged from start to finish.

Oh hey! Gumshoe detective slash romance novel!
Right from the Raymond Chandler/Mickey Spillane-esque opening paragraph I knew I was in for something quite different from Australian author Amy Andrews in her new release, Limbo (The Joy Valentine Mysteries 1).
I liked this book a lot! Disgraced cop, and now PI, Dashiell Dent and his offsider, sometime-psychic Joy Valentine first met three years ago when they had a hookup the night before she left for the states to try her luck as a singer/guitarist. Three years later she's back after failing to make any inroads on stardom. After returning to work in the family business as a cadaver makeup artist, Joy has an experience with a client that brings her into Dent's orbit again.
This is and isn't what you expect. I expected romance, and I got that, what I didn't expect was the slight paranormal tinge and the detective fiction plot. I found the blend very entertaining. As far as genres go, this could be a new favourite :)
People who enjoy contemporary romance or romantic suspense would definitely enjoy Limbo. It dwells a lot on the sometimes unresolved, sometimes resolved sexual tension between Dash and Joy - at heart the novel is still pretty firmly fixed within the romance genre. However, be prepared for a very slow burn between the leads. You may be reading a few Joy Valentine Mysteries before this pair finds its happy ending.
I gave this four stars for an entertaining new concept for a romance series! I will definitely be seeking future releases from this writer, who is becoming a must-read for me.

Regular visitors to this blog would know that the inclusions of romantic and paranormal (in isolation, let alone together!) would have me fleeing for the hills, but I'm glad I took the time to read Andrews' latest novel Limbo, as I think she's onto something good here.
There's a lot to love about this book. Andrews does a great job with her characters. Leads, Dash and Joy are complex and felt very very real. The supporting cast—Katie and Eve—were also people I was keen to spend time with.
Andrews is obviously comfortable writing about romance and sex and her casual prose put me at ease.
I really liked Andrews' choice of crime for this foray into romantic suspense. There were no over-the-top serial killers or heinous mobs. Again it felt very real as did their investigation.
Although I'm not into the paranormal I'm not completely averse to the role Joy's ghost played in this novel. In fact I think it might have worked better if her abilities featured more strongly. I wondered if Andrews was perhaps hedging her bets... not wanting to go too far down that road at this point.
I'm assuming there will be others in this series, as Andrews introduced a few intriguing loose ends (Dash's corruption charges and his relationship with his former boss; and police involvement in the death of Eve's friend many years before) which I'm keen to follow down whatever rabbit hole comes next.

Joy Valentine, singer and former contestant on the X Factor, works in a funeral home doing make-up for the recently deceased. While working on a murder victim, the victim’s ghost appears to Joy asking for help. The ghost wants Joy to find her missing infant daughter. Joy seeks the help of private investigator Dashiell Dent, a man she hasn’t seen in three years and hadn’t planned on seeing again. Dash agrees to help Joy look for the missing child, Isabella Richardson.
I really enjoyed this book. The author did an amazing job of including several different elements to the story including intrigue, wit, romance and the paranormal. This is a book that could fall under several different genres, and will appeal to many different people. The chemistry between Dash and Joy is palpable. They are so good together, though neither one of them can see it. The supporting characters of this book have a lot of depth to them. Their story lines are fun and interesting too. I really hope there’s more where this came from. I’d not only like to read more mysteries surrounding Dash and Joy, but I also want to see what happens in the lives of Stan and his church and Eve and her brothel. This wasn't my usual kind of read and normally I might not have picked it up on my own, which would have been a shame because I really did enjoy it.
It wasn't heavy on romance or suspense and the paranormal aspect of the story, while playing a huge role in the story, was only a small aspect of it.
I liked both Dash and Joy and their strange attraction to one another but it wouldn't have been the same story without the secondary characters. Katie, Eve, Lance and especially Simone and Ralph really added to the story in the best way.
I still don't know how exactly you would classify this story because it was pretty much a little of everything wrapped up in one fun, interesting story. I actually can't wait to find out what happens in the next book. I have so many questions.

Limbo by Amy Andrews was a non stop, twist of a read that had me engrossed from the start. Each character within the story has their own dramas that mixed well together throughout the read. Joy Valentine was a firecracker of a character that is just all heart :) Dash Dent is hotness and attitude from the start. Their powerful attraction, antics and dialogue is just completely entertaining :D The nail biting finale had this reader turning the pages with gusto to see how the story finished :) With every page turn the story just got better and better. Shocks, twists and heated chemistry kept this reader glued to the story.
An awesome start to the Joy Valentine Mysteries series.

I love, love, Amy Andrews' writing and loved this book. The hero, PI Dash Dent is just scrummy and the heroine, Joy Valentine, is the type of confident, no-nonsense woman I'd love to hang out with. Add in a ghost, a funeral parlour, corrupt cops, a missing child mystery, stacks of sexual tension and a groovy hip priest fir good measure. Oh, and it's set in Brisbane. The only thing that would have made it a five star read for me, would be a more complete happy ever after romantic ending. But I know that these characters will see each other again soon. Waiting for the next book in the series!

A ghost, a girl and a guy with a big mystery to solve.
An enjoyable story with lots of twists and quite a bit of sexual tension between the two main characters. The plot is good, there is plenty of detail and it flows really well.
My only disappointment is that, for a book involving a ghost, it is treated as more of an aside and not an ongoing part of the story.
Apart from that, I'm looking forward to another book about Joy and Dash as I'm sure they have unfinished business.

An enjoyable story with lots of twists and quite a bit of sexual tension between the two main characters. The plot is good, there is plenty of detail and it flows really well.
My only disappointment is that, for a book involving a ghost, it is treated as more of an aside and not an ongoing part of the story.
Apart from that, I'm looking forward to another book about Joy and Dash as I'm sure they have unfinished business.

I received a copy of this book, from the author, in exchange for an honest review. And I'm so glad I did! I probably would have passed right over this book just reading the blurb... not much into the paranormal, woo-woo stuff as the author puts it in the book. And while the paranormal subject is touched on its not the focus... the book is so much more. It has mystery, romance, a little hot loving, folks with a past.... everything that makes a book one that you can't put down. So hope the author writes more in this series.

Firstly if Amy Andrews was not an author that I have on my must read list, this book may never have been picked up. I was still a bit wary of reading it when I read the blurb. That said, I'm glad I did.
There were definitely parts of the book that made me wonder how I didn't have nightmares since I read before bed, but overall this was a well written story with a fantastic storyline.

This is a fun read. if you like a bit woo woo, quirky, erotic, humorous with a bit of sleuthing thrown in,you will enjoy this book.

This is book I really enjoy. Came back to it as a reread this time.
Characters who aren't quite what you expect. The main characters are wholesome and written is a way that makes you feel like you know them.
I reread this as a lighter read that isn't a mushy romance, which is usually my go to for a light read.
Recommended as a mystery novel that keeps you guessing, that is about bigger things than one crime.

my biggest issue was that it wasn't what it seemed to be going in, but I really enjoyed the humor and story line.
