Madison Carter has been terrified of Scott Lee since the night he saved her from an evil sorcerer – then melted into a man-eating monster before her eyes. The werewolf is a slave to the moon, but Madison’s nightmares are not.
Despite her fears, when Madison’s brother, Clinton, is bitten by a werewolf, she knows there is only one man who can help. A man who frightens her all the more because even in her nightmares, he also thrills her.
Together for the first time since that terrible night, Scott and Madison drive to Clinton’s home only to discover that he’s vanished. Frantic now, Madison must overcome her fears and uncover hidden strengths if she hopes to save him. And she’s not the only one fighting inner demons. Scott’s are literal, and they have him convinced that he will never deserve the woman he loves.
Christine Amsden has been writing science fiction and fantasy for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.
Christine currently lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, Austin, who has been her biggest fan and the key to her success. They have two beautiful children.
Madison's Song by Christine Amsden is a 2015 Twilight Books publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In this all new book by the author of the Cassie Scot YA Paranormal detective series, we explore the aftermath of Madison's discovery of her true parentage, her break up with Nicolas, various betrayals, and her adjustment to being half sister to Evan.
If that weren't bad enough, she is having nightmares regarding a close encounter with a werewolf named Scott. Things go from bad to worse when her brother Clinton is bitten by a werewolf, and Madison must do whatever is necessary to save him, even it means another face to face encounter with Scott.
I loved the paranormal spin on the shapeshifter/werewolf trope because of the science fiction tint the author added into it. It makes perfect sense that if a pack of werewolves were outed someone would get the bright idea of trying to create that phenomenon in lab. What could possibly go wrong? Sadly, Clinton, an innocent in all of this, will find out all the ways such an experiment could go awry.
The only good thing to come out of such a situation was Madison's forced contact with Scott and Evan which will lead her to address some repressed emotions, admit to some feelings and fears she has been holding onto, and opening the door for a possible romance.
Madison is a strong young lady, but suffers from insecurities and self doubt, which makes her easy to relate to. She is loyal and honorable and even brings out the best in Evan, who is still a conflicted man. Scott is also a person who will show deep character development and will face his guilt while maintaining his role as pack leader, often having to make very difficult choices.
The story has lots of action-adventure, some tense suspenseful moments, and a sweet romance, equally balanced, is fast paced and easy to read.
For those of you who are familiar with the Cassie Scot series, you will find a few familiar faces here which was fun, and of course you know Madison is Cassie's good friend. If you haven't read the first series, no worries, this book is a stand alone, but it is connected to previous series and could be defined as a companion to the it, and does explore the aftermath of events previously explored. So, I do strongly recommend reading the Cassie Scot series in order to understand how Madison got to this point, but it's not absolutely necessary in order to enjoy this book.
This book is a little edgier than what I am used from this author, and I really liked the darker tone this one had, and while still YA /NA, it has an adult feel to it making this one enjoyable for anyone of any age group.
I loved how everything was wrapped up! This book could either stand on it's own or be the start of a new series. Christine's writing style and the atmosphere she creates in her books is unique and draws the reader into the story and hold them there. If you enjoy paranormal romance and shifters you will certainly want to invest in this series.
Magic and mayhem collide in this fantastic and unforgettable novel! It’s one of those rare reads that you pick up and simply can’t put down. It caused one very sleepless night for me. I love the voice in which Amsden writes. It’s so fun & approachable, while at the same time, it truly drives the story forward. She paints her world before her readers in vivid Technicolor, allowing them to experience it rather than simply read about it.
I loved the characters that Amsden fills this novel with. They’re both fun and loveable. The way in which she develops everyone individually here, while also tying it back to how we knew them in the Cassie Scot series was fantastic.
Not only does this story spin off from, and connect back to, Amsden’s Cassie Scot series, it’s also a fantastic tale on its own. This novel is darker than the Cassie Scot series proper, but all the more delicious for it. I love how Amsden takes these developed concepts and runs with it, while also allowing readers to appreciate this novel all on its own.
The magic in this novel isn’t all with the characters; it flows from the tip of Amsden’s pen in this creative & imaginative tale.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
Madison is the shy girl, a friend of Cassie’s in the Cassie Scot Series novels that Christine wrote. If you haven’t read the Cassie Scot Series then it is ok because Madison’s Song is a standalone and a spinoff from the Cassie Scot’s Series. But I do suggest that you read the other books to learn more about Madison and because the Cassie Scot Series are great books too. Besides it being a great series you will find out more about some of the other characters in Madison’s Song.
Madison has really been through a lot her whole life. Madison has magic but she doesn’t use it because she was taught by her dad that magic was evil and wouldn’t allow her to use it. Her best magical talent is singing. Madison has the most sweetest, charming and magical voice. Her friends finally convince her that magic is like people. There are good and bad people just like there are good magic and bad magic. So with Madison being a good person she is not going to use bad magic unless someone she loves and cares about is in danger and it is the only way to save them.
Worrying about magic is not the only problems Madison has either. There is this guy; Scott that turns into a werewolf during a full moon. Madison really likes Scott a lot but she is afraid of what he becomes when the moon is full. When he turns into a werewolf he is no longer Scott, he is beast that will tear a human apart. Madison hates it when the moon is full. She stays awake all night long when the moon is full and has nightmares on all the other nights. Scott is afraid of what the monster that he becomes on the full moon so he stays as far away from Madison as possible besides he knows she is very scared of him and he doesn’t ever want to hurt her in anyway.
But when her brother calls her and tells her that he is in trouble the only person she can call for help is Scott. Scott wants to help her save her brother and will do whatever he can for her but with him being the leader of his pack he has rules that he must follow and if anyone in his pack messes up they have to pay the price for their crimes. Madison and Scott run into a lot of trouble while looking for her brother. While trying to save him they end up in the same position as her brother and have to figure out a way to hopefully save all of them.
I have read all of the Cassie Scot books and loved them all and Madison’s Song was just as good. I loved reading more about Madison and finding out more about her magical ability. Madison may have been a quiet shy little mouse but when the big dogs came out to play she brought out the big guns and let them have it hard. When it came to the people she loved she didn’t play around. She showed them what she was made of and how to kick butt. I missed Cassie but I did enjoy reading about Madison and Scott. I hope this will not be the end of the spinoffs. I hope we get to read more about some of the other characters. And maybe one day we will find out more about Cassie, Evan and their new baby.
If you have not read Madison’s Song then I highly recommend that you do. I think you will fall in love with Madison and Scott just like I did. I also recommend that you read the Cassie Scot Series as well. You don’t want to miss out that adventure either. Madison and Cassie both will take you on a ride that you have never been on before. So grab your copies today and leave a review so that we will know what you think.
I absolutely adored the Cassie Scot series and was keeping my fingers crossed that some of the side characters in the series would get their own books. I was super excited that Madison was the first character to get her own story. I just knew that there was more to Madison than meets the eye. Although she starts out a bit shy and more than a bit scared, Madison comes into her own as the story progresses.
Madison’s Song has it all: a well-developed story, lots of action, more than a little romance, and heart-stopping suspense. The action starts off right away. The prologue sucks you in and the story doesn’t release you until the final word is written. I love that the fantasy world created by Amsden is so utterly believable. The story takes numerous twists and turns and keeps you guessing as to the outcome until the end is nigh. You rush through reading it because you’ve just got to know what happens next, but when you finish you want to start all over again and just savor it.
As a newbie to fantasy reads (Cassie Scot was one of my first fantasy reads), I’m still figuring out what I do and do not like with fantasy. Amsden hits the nail on the head with everything that’s great about reading fantasy. She makes magic and werewolves seem so real I keep checking to see when the full moon will be upon us. And the way the non-magical (and may I say somewhat evil?) characters in her book deal with magic is scary because it is exactly how certain entities, governmental or otherwise, would respond to learning about the existence of magical creatures.
My only complaint about the book is that we didn’t get to see Cassie. I missed her although she was referred to and her husband and baby played roles in the book.
I recommend this book to absolutely everyone who loves a good story.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***Received the ebook for free for an honest review
The cover is awesome and scary all at the same time. It is very beautiful :)
I truly loved the Cassie Scot series and was very sad when it ended, so I jumped at the chance to read this companion novel. This book has Madison, Scott, and Evan in it…sadly no Cassie, but I live with it was it was just an awesome story and grabbed my attention and held on until the end. I think there is some magic in the words that Christine puts into her stories because it is definitely always magical and all the scenes fill my mind as I read, and I never have a problem picturing it. Madison and Scott’s story is terrifying, exciting, and action packed.
I really hope there is more of this world because it is such a magical and wonderful place that Christine has created. If you loved the Cassie Scot series, then you do NOT want to miss reading this book.
I highly recommend this series to Christine’s fans of the Cassie Scot series and to anyone who loves magic and thinks werewolves should be a bit more savage than some books portray.
Madison was attacked by a sorcerer and saved by Scott, someone she’s had a crush on. Unfortunately, the night he saves her it’s a full moon and he turns into a werewolf. In order to save her from his wolf, he must mark her by taking her virginity. Two years later, she is still afraid of Scott and his wolf. She has been thru a lot in those two years (see the author’s previous series), but she has made it through and become the music teacher she’s always wanted to be. However, her brother, Clinton, calls to say he has been bitten and then disappears. Who is after the wolves and what do they want?
While this book is a standalone book, it is a spin off from her Cassie Scot series. If you are reading or plan to read the other series, a lot is told about the previous books (which is good if you haven’t read them; you’re not wondering what happened). I did enjoy the book, although I found a section in the middle that kind of dragged a bit. Be warned, Scott is the kind of werewolf from the late show and your nightmares. He changes when the moon is full and loses himself to the wolf. He’s not one of those fluffy nice guy wolves you read in other stories.
*At the time of this review, the Goodreads rating was 4.5 stars which is exactly what I would give it. However, since ratings do not allow 1/2 stars, I will round up.
Can I say I love the cover?! I love Scott’s wolf with Madison’s piano and music. It said so much about the story.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
Madison's Song is a standalone companion to the Cassie Scot series, yet I don't think you need to read them first to enjoy this novel. But you'll be missing out if you don't-- they are quite good.
Madison was a character I definitely wanted to know more about while reading the Cassie Scot series. Her magical talent, singing, was one I found especially intriguing. Madison typically came across as meek and soft, but when it really counted, she found her backbone. The romance, or rather lack thereof, between Scott and Madison was tragic. They were both attracted to each other for years but always afraid to connect. He was afraid his wolf would hurt her, and she was afraid of his wolf.
Evil sorcerer Alexander DuPris made an appearance in the story via proxy with an insidious plot involving werewolves. While I enjoyed the story and the interactions between Scott and Madison, I felt that the pacing was a tad too slow for my taste at times, especially at the beginning. The best part- Madison finally embracing the magic within her.
If you like paranormal romance, then this series is really a must read.
I loved this book. Madison is a sweet heroine with a steel backbone when the chips are down. Her self-confidence took a beating during her formative years but with the help of Scott and Cassie Madison is on the verge of realizing her magic is stronger than she ever knew.
When her brother, Clinton is bitten, then abducted, then changed into an abomination, Madison is the only person who feels he can be salvaged. Scott is skeptical but will do practically anything within his power to help her save her brother – even though the consequences of doing so may cause problems for the pack.
The twists within the story were well-envisioned. I absolutely loved the ending, and I am so pleased to have been selected as an early reader.
This book was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.
I was given a copy of this book un return for an honest review.
This book is about magic and werewolves. It starts out, with Madison being attacked by a sorcerer, and a werewolf named Scott coming to her rescue. This start definitely set up the book. Because during the rescue, sets up a fear of Scott that could last a lifetime.
However a few years later after thr incident. Madison is forced to overcome her fear, when her brother clinton is in trouble.
What I like about this book is that it was very easy to get into. It was a very enthralling storyline.
What I didnt like about this book, was that it ended.
The writing is great, the storyline was well put together. There was no rushness, no hurry to the end. It flowed masterfully. And I will read more books from this author.
After reading the Cassie Scot series and loving each minute of it I was excited but scared of the next book. I knew it would be of characters in the series but still had trepidation because I fell in love with Cassie and Evan’s story and wanted more. I will say that this book was more. More wonderful, heartfelt and amazing.
The two main characters Madison and Scott grab you instantaneously. Madison is shy and sweet and has been hurt so much by people. She wants to be loved with no strings and wants so badly to trust and love someone. The beginning of the story doesn’t bear well for her and the danger is palpable. That is something Christine Amsden is great at allowing you to feel the danger and emotions of the characters. Her writing immerses you into the story and what the essence of the story is. Here we have Madison who feels no one could love her since her dad didn’t. Since she keeps being rejected. She keeps Evan at arm’s length because she never truly forgives him for his father. Evan wants to be her brother in every sense of the word but she doesn’t want that. It is Scott who gets her to open up and try.
Scott the werewolf. The sexy sweet kind considerate werewolf. Ironic I know that a werewolf can be kind. He is loyal and protective of those he loves. Scott is a good person he just doesn’t believe it. I believe it is his inherent goodness that keeps him from becoming like Isaac and being a shell that lives on peoples fear of him. He cares for his pack and keeping them from becoming that as well. He is dangerous don’t get me wrong but he loathes that part of him. He has morals and even in wolf form I believe some how he keeps those morals and his goodness. It is ingrained in him. He is also completely and thoroughly in love with Madison. He doesn’t see her like others or herself do though. To him she is strong and beautiful. She is kind and compassionate. She is complete and everything he wants in a mate. When Madison comes to him for help he is there for her. Protecting her and caring for her needs. He shows her that no matter what he will not leave her. He is hers body, mind, heart and soul.
Now the adventure into them growing as people and with each other begins. So does the danger. Her brother Clinton is in danger. Scott knows this and he wants to help. He doesn’t want him turning out to be evil. He wants to help Madison keep one part of her family together. Along the way to finding Clinton, these two grow to begin to trust each other. Or at least Madison begins to trust and not fear Scott anymore. She begins to see him as Scott and not as his werewolf. She also begins to see what Scott sees and that his her strength and power.
At one point these two are in grave danger. This brings them closer and has Madison fall in love with Scott. He is already there. The trust and faith that builds in this time is so intimate and beautiful. You see Scott let Madison in in ways that makes you sigh and swoon. He still is fiercely protective of her. Madison begins to let Scott see beyond her walls. He always saw who she was but she allows him to see her fears and trusts him implicitly. He gives up control to her and she accepts this gracefully. They become each others support and rock. We see Madison begin to see what Scott sees in her. How she lets down her fear and truly gives all her trust and faith to Scott is amazing to see. The writing of this is exquisite as is the slow build of trust, friendship and love.
This is a book of finding who you are and finding love. About a man who feels he is not good but has someone help him find his way to what is there and that is inherent goodness. A man who helps a girl find her strength and see she is loved. They build so a beautiful intimate bond in which they give each other their faith and trust. Trust to get each other out of the danger they are in. They give each other the gift of blind trust and love. Two rare gifts to be bestowed on someone. A book on love and trust and how love is magic in itself. About finding the inner strength to survive and see who you really are to others. To see the love that is being offered to you and accepting it. Scott and Madison are a amazing couple. Together and apart they show strength, love and loyalty.
The book keeps you on your toes as these two get put in more and more danger as they try to find and help Clinton and others as the danger unfolds and sinister plots begin to be revealed.
Disclosure: I received a review copy from the author in exchange for a honest review.
I was sad when the Cassie Scot series was over. There were only four books in the series but I thought there was still so much to explore and stories to be told. However, last year the author revealed that she too, wasn’t ready to leave Cassie’s world and thus was writing two companion novels in the same world focusing on Cassie’s best friends Madison and Kaitlin. And I’m happy to say Madison’s Song did not disappoint!
Madison’s Song focuses mostly on Madison, Scot, and werewolf hierarchy and dynamics. Madison’s brother Clinton gets bitten by a werewolf and imprisoned and the first person Madison seeks help from is Evan’s best friend, Scot, a powerful sorcerer and alpha. What they thought was just a newbie lone wolf attack turns out to be a sinister government black operations gone wrong…and only Madison can save them all.
Amsden did a wonderful job expanding on Madison and Scot’s character as well as delving deeper into the werewolf society; since Madison and Scot played minor/secondary characters before and we only knew the minimum about Scot and his pack. Werewolves are one of my favorite paranormal creatures, so I had no problem getting sucked into the story. Readers will not only meet Scot’s pack but other territories alphas and see how things are run differently than the sorcerer’s covens/families. I really liked Madison’s character, she’s relatable in the sense that she’s shy, quiet and like any girl has some insecurities but by the end of the book she learns to love herself and embrace her powers and see that she can use magic not only to help others but also as self-defense without hurting anyone. Scot was the perfect alpha, he’s a fair and understanding leader and doesn’t shy away from getting his hands dirty if it means protecting everyone for the greater good. I also liked that Scot and the other werewolves weren’t shown as timid swoon worthy boys/girls next-door. These werewolves are dangerous and vicious and at the end of the day they’re killers ….not some cute little pup; which is usually depicted as-so in other books.
All in all, Madison’s song is another great read by Amsden. If you loved and read Cassie Scot, then you’ll definitely love this book too! Madison is a great heroine who can no doubt carry her own story and keep the readers engaged and entertained. This can’t be said for all spin-off/companion novels. They either work or they don’t and in Amsden’s case…we have another winner! I can’t wait to read Kaitlin’s book next! I highly recommend this to all UF readers, you won’t be disappointed!
I was so sad when I finished the Cassie Scot series.
Then I was so excited to get my hands on Madison’s Song. It’s a companion book to the series and features several characters I wanted to know more about.
Christine Amsden is a master at hooking you into the story from the first couple of sentences. The prologue captivated me right away. I pressed on, anxious to get to the whole story and excited to enter this world again.
I always thought Madison was stronger, more than she thought she was. Her power of song, her gift of evoking emotions through her singing, is a powerful gift. She is just discovering how handy it can be. Especially with werewolves slathering to eat her.
Her fear of werewolves is well founded. An encounter with Scott, the local pack leader, left her riddled with nightmares and dealing with lots of anxiety. To be around him terrifies her.
This is where she shows her toughness though. Her brother Clinton has vanished after calling and telling her he’s been bitten by a werewolf. The only one she knows might be able to help him is Scott.
Imagine Scott’s surprise when he opens the door and there stands Madison. He knows how she feels about him. He can’t blame her after what he put her through. That shes’ there at all stuns him.
Of course he’ll help her. He’s Clinton’s only chance at surviving the transformation and attacks from other packs. Plus it gives him time to be close to Madison. Maybe to change her fear of him to something else. Something more romantic.
But that’s a problem too as his best friend, Evan, a powerful wizard, is Madison’s half brother. His threats to rip Scott limb from limb if he so much as looks at Madison are not to be taken lightly.
I couldn’t wait for the road trip with Scott and Madison. These two are perfect for each other and I’ve been waiting a long time to see if or how they finally hook up.
Things get strange when they run across a rogue werewolf, Clara. She’s a werewolf but she wasn’t bitten. Using her to track down who took Clinton, they stumble onto something. It could be good for the werewolves, or it could be disastrous. I had a feeling it couldn’t be good so I read late into the night to find out.
I found out. I found out a lot of things by the end of the book.
I loved every bit of this and sure hope the author continues with more companion novels. I can think of many other characters who I’d enjoy getting to know better.
“Madison’s Song” by Christine Amsden is a paranormal story that is connected to the ‘Cassie Scot’ series and centers on Madison Carter, who has had to deal with multiple issues related to werewolves, but none so challenging as the news that her beloved brother Clinton has been bitten by a werewolf. Scott Lee has never found a way to get past the life-changing experience he shared with Madison two years prior, with discouraging results for both of them. Unfortunately, there are even more dangers to them and those they care about than ever imagined and they will have to find a way to utilize all of the powers they can muster to fight the evil that threatens to destroy them.
This intense paranormal story has both magic urban fantasy blended in an exciting tale. There are several aspects that I found uncomfortable to contemplate but the twists and turns of the story and the rising action makes this a fascinating and compelling read. Despite the fact that this book is tangentially connected to the ‘Cassie Scot’ series, it can be read as a stand-alone, although it provides some interesting insights about some of the characters from that series. This story differs from many other paranormal tales by focusing on the feral nature of werewolves and emphasizing the danger of dealing with an animal that loses its humanity when the beast is dominant. It is wonderful to watch Madison’s maturation and the strength of character that develops and the overarching theme is perfectly reflected in the words from the story, “How can you know love until you can learn to love yourself?” A few issues were not resolved to my satisfaction and I found some of the scenarios a little awkward but I was captured by the action and anxious to find out how things were going to be resolved.
This is an exciting story that will appeal to those who love paranormal tales with a twist of magic, but be forewarned that it is not for the squeamish. There are a few threads left dangling to tantalize, so hopefully there will be more stories to give additional glimpses of these complex and compelling characters.
A copy of this title was provided to me for review.
Scott Lee saved her from an evil sorcerer and Madison Carter repaid him by being terrified of him but to help her brother she turns to him for help and now they will have to save each other in this exciting paranormal romance. The author’s world is fascinating with lots of interesting and different elements and I was completely enthralled with the story from the very beginning. I haven’t read the Cassie Scot series (yet) so it was a pleasant surprise when I was checking out the other books by Christine Amsden and I discovered this book is part of the same world, so I would like to point out that while the characters are connected, this story can be read as a standalone.
Welcome back to the world of Cassie Scot! I was so excited when author Christine Amsden contacted me about the next, but stand-alone, book in the Cassie Scot series. As a companion novel, Madison's Song focuses on secondary characters from the original series. This novel is about Madison, one of Cassie's friends, Scott, a werewolf, and includes Evan, Cassie's husband and Madison's half-brother.
I have read and reviewed all of the Cassie Scot novels and the reviews can be found here on the blog, on Goodreads, and on Amazon for your viewing pleasure. Here are links to the blog posts for your convenience:
When Scott saves Madison from a madman two years prior, she's thankful he showed up in the nick of time.....until he marks her then turns into a menacing and scary monster. Now, Madison, who's terrified of werewolves and the full moon, must rely on the one man that haunts her nightmares. Madison's brother Clinton is in trouble, having been bitten by a werewolf and needs help. Instead of turning to Evan, Madison shows up on Scott's doorstop.
What ensues is a cross-country chase that ultimately ends in capture but not of who one would think. A game has been played that forces Scott's hand and he ends up being a guinea pig in a lab located in Texas. The madmen that run it have a sinister plan in place that is detrimental to the survival all werewolves. It's up to Scott to instill the confidence in Madison to use her magic as the gift it is and not loathe it like she was taught to by her family. Their survival and escape depend on it!
As with the 4 books in the Cassie Scot series, the dialogue, character development, and writing style of Madison's Song is well done. The content and plot in Madison's Song is fresh and unique. I was pulled into the world of Cassie Scot from day one with its smart heroine and strong hero and it continues with with story of Madison and Scott.
The undertones of the story are filled with unrealized, and sometimes push aside, feelings of love. Madison and Scott started off in a bad place, scarring Madison and causing Scott to be miserable. Being forced together to find Clinton allows some of the healing to begin for Madison and a spark of hope to ignite within Scott. I enjoyed the development of their love story and the end left me happy and satisfied with where things ended up.
The author has written characters that have deep layers and are emotional. They are believable and easy to love. The entire novel was written with feeling and realistic emotions - from the feelings of being terrified all the way to the blossoming of love.
You won't be disappointed with the newest edition to the Cassie Scot world!
ARC review copy courtesy of the author, at no cost, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and ratings are my own.
Being raised in a family that views magic as inherently evil - in a town where magic rules supreme - Madison Carter once believed that learning that she was adopted was the only knowledge that could truly shock her. As a child, her father had always told her that her musical talent wasn't a magically-gifted affinity, but a devilish curse that she must never use. Her friendship with Cassie Scot may have given Madison the needed strength to defy her adoptive father and become an elementary school music teacher; but nothing could have possibly prepared her for learning the true identity of her birth father, or for being kidnapped by an evil sorcerer.
Madison has been terrified of Scott Lee ever since the night that he saved her life - then melted into a man-eating monster right in front of her. She actually hasn't had a good night's sleep since her rescue, and the nightmares that plague her aren't only about her kidnapping. The werewolf may be ruled by the moon, but Madison's nightmares definitely are not.
Despite her own fears, when Madison's brother Clinton is bitten by a werewolf, she knows that there is only one man who can possibly help him. He is the one man who frightens Madison to the very marrow of her bones, all the more so because even in her nightmares, he thrills her. Now Madison must swallow her fear, and turn to Scott Lee for his help. Clinton's very life may depend on it.
Together for the first time since that terrible night, Scott and Madison drive to Clinton's apartment. Learning from Clinton's roommate that he hasn't been there for close to a week - and hasn't been seen anywhere else in the community - Madison begins to worry that her brother has completely vanished. Frantic now, she must overcome her fears and discover her inner strengths if she has any hope of finding her missing brother and saving him.
Madison may feel utterly alone as she struggles with her internal demons, but she is not the only one who is fighting them. Scott's inner demons are entirely too real for him; too literal. And they have him utterly convinced that he will never be worthy of the woman he loves - that he will never deserve her love, no matter what he does.
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This is a standalone companion to the Cassie Scot Series - and while I loved the character of Cassie Scot - I often found myself wanting to know more about the character of Madison Carter. In my opinion, Madison was such a poignant character to watch throughout this story.
She was so painfully shy and had such a low self esteem at first, that I felt sorry for her situation. I must say that I never felt sorry for Madison as a character, and was delighted to see her development throughout the story. I give this book a definite A+!
Let me start by saying I have not read the previous series that this is a spin off to. With that being said, it doesn't matter, I loved this book. It's scary and romantic and so heartfelt all in one, and boy did we get some healing in here. And it's not always so pretty either, I loved that. Not some kind of automatic, I don't believe this, but it'll just be kind of thing. Madison is at first a sad character to me, but boy did she become glad and happy by the end. And Scott is a magnificent book boyfriend. Broken, bad boy wants to be a good guy, but can't get past his past endeavors, so he suffers, and makes Madison suffer along with him. Oh and the cover, absolutely perfect for the story, plus it's awesome!!
So Madison, she kind of fascinated me. You see, in her shoes, I would have been kicking and screaming, and tearing someone's door down, and beating someone else with a broom. Or the handle when the bristles break. But she's meek and quite a loner, to a fault. She has had some much abandonment, and when I say it's rough, I didn't know how rough until almost the end of the story. I wanted to hug her, and then I wanted to cheer for her. Her cowardice turning into straight up heroine, just on a less blow up kind of way. Which is how she healed her self and Scott. Or together they healed each other.
Scott broke my heart. Umm, I wanted to kick his derierre in the first few chapters, but I kinda got it. He figured since he was already hell bound he would make it count, except he hurt Madison in the process. I now get why her half brother, who's Scott's BFF, told her to stay far away. And thank goodness neither of them listened to him. But Scott wants to find out about Madison's brother, because something is very wrong here. Things around her brother's biting is not adding up. And boy does the journey begin from there. And it blew my mind how crazy it turned out.
This one has it all in spades. Mystery, action, a little horror- just a little- suspense, romance, self healing. Yeah. I really liked this one. I really hope these character stay around, and the old ones, her half brother and his wife, Madison's friend. I want more from this, and in the mean time, I will go backwards and read the first part of the spin off, from Cassie. :) With that said, 5 MAGICAL WOLFY PAWS!!!
From the moment she was born, Madison Carter has had an unexpected gift. She can influence people with just her singing alone. Sometimes doing so is an accident. She doesn't want people to do what she wants them do. It's just that her emotions are tied to her singing, and it affects those around her whether she wants it to or not.
Christine Amsden has written another wonderful addition to the Cassie Scot ParaNormal Detective series. This time, we have a story told from Madison's point of view. As some of you know, Madison's life hasn't been hunky-dory. It's gone up and down, and all around. The poor woman has had to deal with so many disappointments that she's no longer sure of what is the truth and what is not.
This standalone novel gives us a little more insight into Madison's life and past, as well as to what makes her tick. We also get an in-depth look into her relationship with Scott. Who wouldn't want a gorgeous werewolf by their side? Granted, such things always come with unexpected results, but it's a chance Madison is willing to take.
In this book, Christine also tells us more about the lore she's created surrounding the werewolves. We get to know who there are, how some of them became what they are now, as well as know more about Scott's past, too. The fact that Madison is caught in the crossfire adds intrigue to the plights they find themselves in.
Madison also has to deal with the chaos surrounding her own family. She has to step up to the plate and right all wrongs, something she's loathe to do. Though things are difficult, she knows that if she tries her best, she'll be able to do what she needs to do when the time comes. I love this about her. She might be afraid and insecure, at times, but she's willing to do whatever is necessary to complete the task at hand.
I honestly enjoy this wonderful series. Each book brings us closer to the Scots, their friends, and the beautiful world Christine has created with her beloved characters. Whether they're in trouble, in love, or just trying to exist, we get to see each step her characters take in doing what they have to when the time comes. I so can't wait to see what Christine has in store for us next with this diverse and quite delightful series.
I really missed the Cassie Scot series so I was thrilled when Christine Contacted me tore Jew Madison's Song and this book did not disappoint. Madison's always been the girl in the books that was shy , awkward and kept to herself. after much mysery in her life she regressed worse. you know what I mean if you read the series. In this book she is what I always thought was there.a strong . willed girl just afraid from it being I stilled in her since childhood. so this book is surprising , a bit of violence , love, scary moments, determined action, shocking and a lot more. I love the fact that Ms.Amsden added Scott Lee to the whole picture as well. and yes Evan u s in here and plays a small part but cassie is on my mentioned in past tense ,alittle present. but cassie story is complete. Madison's song however could go know to another book I think but I don't know I'd that's the plan here. I think if love to read about other characters in the Scot series so there could be along road ahead of wonderful adventurous books. I'm hoping anyways . just pick this one up and read it. you'll be flying through the pages without realizing it then when the end comes you'll feel compete. I just always want more and find that opening to hope more is written. This story flows naturally which makes it great. Any great story flows ok as together and leaves you wanting more even when you know it's final. so please write more books on the characters of the Scot series. theirs so many left to write about what evil or good their doing now with Cassie not Inconveniencing them. she pretty much blew it to pieces in the end anyways. this book I feel was just a start to more ahead. it's great it's a true 5 star. now go read it!
as I said I was given this book for a honest review and you got it.
Madison’s Song is the latest addition to the Cassie Scot Paranormal Detective fantasy/mystery series. Though not the latest instalment, it is a stand-alone, companion book to the series and, though there are mystery elements in it, it is primarily a romantic fantasy.
So far I’ve read and enjoyed all of the books and this one didn’t disappoint. As usual, Amsden delivers a fast-pace, highly entertaining read with fully sympathetic and compelling characters. This time I was especially swept away by the romance between Madison and Scott.
Madison Carter is a sweet, shy music teacher from a small town. When her brother Clinton’s life is put in danger, she must unwillingly join forces with Scott Lee, a very alluring and dangerous alpha werewolf, to find Clinton and help him. Scott is slave to the moon, a vicious killer and man-eating monster, but he has a soft spot for Madison, whom he was forced to “mark”, make love to, two years ago in order to save her life. Since then, they’ve been bonded in more ways than both are willing to admit. Needless to say, sparks fly from the very beginning. As they follow the trail to Clinton, they find themselves thrown in a secret lab, prisoners of a psychopathic doctor with a very dark agenda. Romance, suspense, mystery, action and thrills abound, and then some.
Fans of the Cassie Scot series and romantic fantasy will gobble this one up. Amsden hooks us from page one and doesn’t let us go until the end. With minimalist descriptions, non-stop action, and skillful characterization, this author delivers a tale that both engages and captivates. I was also impressed by the world building and all the fascinating dynamics about werewolves and their packs. I was able to forget reality and immersed myself into the world of the impossible. Highly recommended!
When you hear the word werewolf, what comes to mind? A savage beast that kills for the joy of killing? A human who turns into a furry creature at the full moon? A poor soul who would rather be human, but has no choice? Or perhaps you think all these things.
Award winning author Christine Amsden’s latest fantasy novel, MADISON’S SONG, starts with action in the prologue and never lets up. Madison is drawn to Scott and possibly loves him. She also fears Scott because he has the power to change her life, and not for the better. Scott is a werewolf (the alpha of his territory) and also a powerful sorcerer, who loves Madison, but doesn’t want to hurt her and tries to protect her from himself. When her brother calls and tells her he’s been turned into a werewolf and needs magic, she knows the only one who can help her save her brother is Scott. Madison and Scott soon discover that much more is going on than her brother being turned into a werewolf.
Madison has a power of her own, though she seldom uses it. She has little confidence in her abilities, but when she discovers that her gift may be all that saves them from death or worse, will she find the courage to use her power?
Ms. Amsden has written a story about werewolves, magic, sorcerers, romance and prayer. Most of all, MADISON’S SONG is a story about making the best of the life one has. I especially like the way Madison doesn’t depend on just her power to succeed, but puts her faith in God through prayer. This is a story that shows the brutality of the werewolf, along with the evil in man. The author also manages to make Scott a likable character in spite of his behavior as a werewolf. I can only hope we see more of Madison and Scott in the future. ### The author provided me with an ARC of the novel for my honest review.
I really enjoyed the Cassie Scot series and was happy to devour it as part of the author's promotional tours. So I jumped when given the opportunity to review this audiobook spin-off novel with a side character in the original series. While the original series is a 4-star read for me, this spin-off is more of a 3.
I really liked Madison in the series and wanted to know more about her gift and see her find happiness. I enjoyed getting to know her more in this book and to see how strong and loyal she is. She would do anything for her family and her loved ones, no matter what was at stake. I admire that in a character. I also enjoyed getting into Scott's head a bit and really understanding his feelings for Madison. He is definitely an Alpha male werewolf, with his fierce protective nature and sense of duty.
But I didn't love everything about the novel. The first thing that bugged me was the narrator. As it turn out, this same narrator does the audio for the original series. But I read those as ebooks, so I didn't know. She sounds... more like a news reporter than a story teller. There were some emotional scenes that just didn't come across as such.
Another issue I had was the story was a bit formulaic. While the original series had twists and some unique situations, this was a bit more like a typical urban fantasy/romance. The characters took forever to communicate, and just kept assuming things about each other (a peeve of mine in many romances) and denying their feelings. I feel like that trope is just overused.
But, I really liked how twisted and dark the plot became, with the creatures and experimentation. I also loved the family comes first theme that carries through this book's plot.
Overall, a good read, just not as good as the original Cassie Scot series.
I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Well in my opinion - Christine just keeps getting better and better! I thought the Cassie series was very good but this one was way better. You don't really have to read the Cassie Scot series, but it does help. There are references to things that happen and you will know everyone better if you read the first ones.
The writing in this story flowed nicely. It was a very exciting, suspenseful, paranormal, romantic read! I loved the characters in this one. Loved Madison and her gift of voice (what a creative and original idea) and I loved Scott, what a hunk! I could see myself falling for him, even though he is a werewolf! He was one of those bad boy/sexy protective types. Christine did an excellent job with the character development. The only thing for me was that Madison seemed younger than she was suppose to be, but that may have been her mousy, timid personality.
I loved the romantic beginning, I loved the thrilling middle, and I loved the perfect ending! LOL Another reviewer complained about the prologue - I loved the prologue! It was very exciting and really urged you to read more. There is a LOT of magic and paranormal stuff in here, so if you like that kind of thing - this is the book for you!
I am looking forward to seeing what Christine comes up with next!
Thank you Christine for this complimentary copy for my honest review!
A spin-off of the Cassie Scot series, starring Madison Carter, one of Cassie's best friends and , and Scott Lee, werewolf and Evan's cousin and closest friend.
Madison has had a traumatizing experience in the past and since then has been terrified of Scott and his werewolf nature. Scott is aware of that fact and does his best to stay away from her, ignoring the longing he feels for her.
When her brother gets in trouble that only Scott would be able to help with, Madison doesn't hesitate going to him and overcoming her fears in order to help her brother.
The two are brought close during their adventures, especially when .
They go through a lot, but eventually reach their happily ever after.
I really enjoy the world Christine Amsden has created and I hope we'll get more books set in it.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Christine Amsden is a new author for me -- but after reading Madison's Song, I am sure that I will look for more of her books to read.
Madison is the main character of the book - and Christine does an awesome job of describing Madison in great detail. She covers not only her physical traits but also characteristics about he emotionally. Madison is a sweet heroine but she proves to have amazing courage when things get tough. Her self-confidence was very low as a result of her childhood and the way she was treated by her father after the death of her mother. Scott (a werewolf who is the other main character of the book) helps Madison realize that her singing voice is really part of her magic. When Madison's brother, Clinton, is bitten and then abducted - oh - and then experimented with and changed into .... I don't write spoilers, so I am gonna stop right there and say YOU HAVE TO READ THIS!!!!
This is an amazing story -- one that once you start reading that you will find hard to put down!!! The twists within the story will definitely keep you interested and wondering what is going to happen next. I thought I had it figured out about half way through and -- NOPE - I guessed wrong. BUT, I still loved the way she took it through to the end.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is Madison's story. If you read all of the Cassie Scott Paranormal Detective books you will remember that she was the friend who kept getting abducted for various reasons. She also had a magical gift but was convinced by her step father that it was a gift from the Devil and she didn't really use it. She had a gift for music and a singing voice that was magnificent. Her magical gift has never been used nor did she realize it was magical!
Scott, a werewolf with definite other magical abilities like most of the others in this town really likes Madison but is afraid if he lets himself get too close he might bite her--Madison is scared to death of Scott but when her brother disappears it is to Scott she goes for help.
I loved reading how Madison went from a shy, frightened girl to a strong decisive woman as she and Scott pull out all the plugs magical and otherwise to find her brother. It takes them on a journey which will either solidify their relationship or break it apart forever. And of course there is her step-brother who doesn't want her near Scott or danger at all--Alpha Males--oh well--
I am hoping for another one of these offshoot novels very soon!!!!!!! Madison's Song
Madison’s Song is a stand-alone companion book to the Cassie Scot series, apparently a series about paranormal detective Cassie Scot. I’ve never read the series before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading Madison’s Song, but overall, the book was a fun surprise.
When Madison’s brother is bitten by a werewolf, she can only turn to one man for help. But this man, Scott Lee, scares her. He appears in her worst nightmares…yet at the same time, the thought of him thrillers her too, for reasons she can’t explain. But when she summons the courage to ask Scott for help, they discover her brother has vanished. And now it’s up to Scott and Madison to find her brother and save him from demons that are all too real.
As you can probably guess, Scott is a werewolf, and about as alpha as they can get. Madison is a music teacher, and she’s quite timid, especially at first. She did grow and became stronger throughout the book. The two of them make an interesting pair, especially with Madison being afraid of him at the start of the book.
Some of the topics are a bit darker, but overall, I enjoyed this book. It was filled with action, suspense and romance, and enough twists and turns to keep me guessing.
I received this book as part of a blog tour to give my honest review.
I am very glad the author did a spin off with the character Madison. She didn't play too huge a part in the other books but she is and was a very memorable character. She has dealt with a lot especially when it comes to the Scot family, which I recommend you to totally read the other books. We learn in the previous reads that she has the gift of song. That means she can sing and her words get to people her mother had this gift, but her gift hasn't been used until recently because her step-father always told her it was the devil's voice. When her brother calls for her help she goes to the one person that scares her the Alpha of a werewolf pack Scott. You just know that Madison and Scott have feelings for each other but would it ever work? Madison has a fear of magic and Scott doesn't want to hurt Madison. While Madison and Scott are both looking for her brother it seems they are being hunted as well. Will Madison be able to save her brother and learn more about magic? Will she have a relationship with Scott? Heck will they even survive everything being thrown at them? This book is action packed and the author did a great job with the characters once again. We don't get to see Cassie in this story which was okay, it was nice to focus on another character and what was going on with her.
