Review of Redemption by Cara Carnes
(spoiler alert)
Redemption is a paranormal romance set in a dystopian world where war rages between Pureblood humans, Impure humans, and various groups of Paraspecies. It is a world populated with Mages and Succubae, Dragon, Gryphon and Wolf shifters, and humans. And in the middle of the war that is happening around them, Adrick and Mira manage to find one another.
Adrick is an Alpha Commander of three packs of wolves. Mira is an Impure acting as a runner between the Alliance and the city of Redemption, where Adrick’s packs live. The two grow closer in the time they have, and amid their developing relationship, Adrick realizes Mira is his mate. Then, without warning, Mira disappears.
Adrick and his packs search unsuccessfully for Mira for more than a year, when he finally has to accept that she is gone. He is torn up, but some of the pack, and even some of her own people, have been led to believe she turned traitor and was behind some of the most destructive attacks of the war.
During the two years she was gone, Mira was held in an unknown facility, surviving in deplorable conditions, and being cruelly tortured. And the moment she is freed she makes her way to Adrick, certain he will help her. Her story of a previously unknown prison where none should exist doesn’t sound believable to some, and there is little trust for her within the pack. But she begs Adrick to go to the facility, to free the Impures there, and help her fulfil her promise to get them out of there.
Adrick believes her and responds to her plea. With three of Adrick’s most powerful wolf warriors, the help of a group of Impures, and one Succubae-Mage mix, they manage to rescue many tortured Impures and one mystery man with an unclear tie to Mira.
It’s during their trip home that Mira and Adrick come together, their love and passion finally finding its release. And when they return, the two enjoy their time together, their relationship growing strong once again.
It takes Mira some time to find her place within Redemption, and to find her way to Adrick’s true self. But she does, and in doing so, she plays a vital role in bringing a great gift to the packs, the Impures, and all the Paraspecies.
Review
Not all steamy romance, this book works on a lot of levels. The characters are complex and interesting, and enjoyable to get to know. I quickly became invested in their plight, feeling like I was a part of the world Cara Carnes created. She brings everything in the story to life!
I enjoyed a lot of the characters, though Mira was my favorite. I loved her strength and how she knew what she wanted. And seeing the relationships between some of the characters develop was fun. I can’t recommend this book enough! In fact, I can’t wait for the next book to come out!
Anyone into paranormal romances will like this book, as will anyone with an interest in paranormal fiction and dystopian societies. Pick it up. I think you’ll enjoy it.
