Elise
I'm obsessed with Aston.
He became my addiction the moment I met him at 10 years old.
He was my best friend from childhood.
He protected me and guided me.
I loved him fiercely long before I really understood what love was.
We were inseparable.
He knew how I felt, and sometimes he would stare at me in ways that made me breathless.
But there were boundaries. Lines that couldn't be crossed. Looks that shouldn't be exchanged. Lips that shouldn't be kissed.
We weren't supposed to love each other. Not in **that** way.
Because, you see, Aston was also my adopted brother...

Aston
Elise was off-limits, a temptation that cursed my existence with this visceral hunger to have her, possess her, and taste her like she was made for me. I was tormented and on the brink of falling. If I stepped over that boundary, if I gave into my want, I wasn’t sure I could survive the disappointment of my adopted parents. We would all be affected. Our lives wouldn’t be the way it was. That change was irreversible, and the damage would be permanent. It was a scary thought, destroying a foundation and rebuilding it without knowing what it might end up looking like.
But my want for her…it sat in the core of me, growing and growing. And want is a dangerous fucking thing. It clouds your judgment, it makes you weak, and I knew…I knew without a doubt, it was only a matter of time before I cracked.
Obsession was devotion. Obsession was mania and need. It was a compulsive urge to self-gratify by wanting, and wanting, and wanting ‘til it hurt, ‘til you could feel it there in your bones, gnawing its way deeper within you.
Obsession was my craze for Elise. She was my impulse. My…pulse itself.
It wasn’t healthy. I knew that.
I didn’t fucking care either.

Youssra finished the book before me and said nothing happens so i’m tapping out—i’m not putting myself through any more of this shit. i’m so sorry but this book was AWFUL—it felt like a badly written wattpad story 😭 the main characters were a pair of childish, horny teenagers and i was cringing the entire time. i swear the FMC was on crack 💀 some of the dialogue was so bad i actually laughed out loud. here are a few examples:

“I fucking hate you. We’re fucking done! Get in your fucking car and go! Go, you fucking prick, just GO! No, no! Don’t go! I didn’t mean that! Just stay! I promise, I won’t say that again. I swear, Aston. Let’s talk. Another hour, okay?”

“TAKE A PICTURE, WHY DON’T YOU! GO ON, YOUTUBE THIS SHIT, YOU FUCKERS!”

“He didn’t exist anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
(32 exclamation marks btw)

“You’re bleeding.”
“My heart is bleeding, yes.”
“No, El, you’re bleeding.”
“FUCK! I’m bleeding, Adrian!”

🧍🏻‍♀️🧍🏻‍♀️🧍🏻‍♀️ yup. read this book at your own risk besties! 😅

i’m so sorry i made you read this with me @Youssra 😭

…there was something about this boy. Something about his despair I wasn’t used to seeing in other kids. He was utterly tragic.

Wow! What this amazing author accomplished with Obsessed just blew me away! This book is so heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. What those two young, crazy in love teenagers went through made me feel so much. From peaked interest to utter devastation, only to then finally end with mending my broken heart.

She was always so close yet so far away.
My heart needed her, but my genius needed stimulation.

Aston is such an unique character and while I loved being in his head, I often wondered how it trully must be for the ones on the outside that have to live with his genius mind. And it's not easy, not by a long shot! I, myself, can't imagine being in the position that his adopted parents and Elise were put into. On one side you want only the best for him and want to help him achieve his potential but on the other side you want to be selfish and keep him to yourself because you love him that much.

Obsession was devotion. Obsession was mania and need. It was a compulsive urge to self-gratify by wanting, and wanting, and wanting ‘til it hurt, ‘til you could feel it there in your bones, gnawing its way deeper within you.

Seeing how Elise and Aston's relationship developed over time made me believe in their feelings for each other 100%. From the moment they met their relationship was anything but ordinary. It was explosive and forbidden. Both tried to do the right thing but in the end that proved to be two different things and thus that their heartbreak was unavoidable.

Life has a funny way of changing in the blink of an eye. It’s so unsteady. One minute love is the answer to everything, and the next you’re hopelessly trying to use it to fix the unfixable.
I felt like I was holding on to something that was already slipping away from my grasp.

description

I wished Elise and Aston they didn't had to go through such tragedy but in the end it made their bond stronger and that strenght is exactly what they'll need to survive what the world will throw at them in the future.
Obsessed is a wonderful story that moved me. And perhaps it will move you, too.

5 I’m Obsessed Stars

I picked up this book because it’s by RJ Lewis and I loved the cover. I had no idea what it was about and I was instantly hooked with the first page. I understand the mix reviews though.

The first half of the book is cute. I gobbled up the pages and I was really happy reading Aston and Elise’s story. Aston came to Elise’s home when he was 10 and she was 9. He was in the foster care system and had been abused. Elise’s dad saved Aston and they have been best friend since.

Best friends I remind you, not brother and sister.

I thought Elise would be upset with Aston and there would be tons of angst, but there wasn’t! The best friend relationship was REALLY CUTE. As Aston and Elise grow up together there’s this crazy chemistry between them, but of course they don’t do anything about. Brothers and sisters do not do anything like that.

I loved the taboo aspect of the read. Even though they aren’t blood related, it was really addictive and I love all the tension! I loved how Aston was Elise’s protector and I loved that Aston wasn’t the typical Hero. He was strong, smart and did anything for Elise. I also loved that in a way Elise and Aston saved themselves for each other. They didn’t date or hook up with other people because what would be the point?

The book shifts towards the second half and that’s when it gets slightly angsty. It’s not usually my cuppa, but the change of direction was nice. There’s a huge struggle between Aston and Elise. This might be where all the mixed reviews come from. A lot of stuff happens and the story could go a million different ways. To be honest, I wanted the author to break the book apart and split it in two books. I wanted more Aston and Elise. The ending is a bit rushed and I was slightly disappointed with that, but the first half of the book was so good, I still finished the book with warm feelings.

Love RJ Lewis but this was a big DNF for me. I'm just not feeling this one. I've tried to continue a few times but it's a wrap!

At 52% when Aston is telling his dad that him and his daughter Elise are in a relationship the dad has the most bizzare responses that I've ever read!

“Have you… touched her?” I kept my eyes on him as my insides raged with guilt. “Yeah,” I admitted. “I have.” “In the house?” I wanted to bite my tongue off. “Yeah.” “Have you both taken it slow?” “We… tried.” Tried but failed, and he knew it. He forced a nod, but his horror was apparent. More silent minutes passed, and while it was uncomfortable as fuck, I kept my eyes levelled to his, never breaking away. After a century of this torture, he leaned over the table and said, “How is this going to work, Aston? This is a new relationship. What’s going to happen next? She’s staying here, and you’re leaving. Did you think about that?” “Of course.” “What are you going to do? There are a lot of problems already.”

What parent would be ok with their adopted son screwing their real daughter in the house when they are still in high school? Not this parent! lol
After I decided to not finish this I read a few spoilers and am pretty sure I made the right decision to bail.

Can't wait for more RJ Lewis books because I usually love them. I'm really sad that I didn't love this one! Hope it works better for others if you try it out:))

*Safety Gang*

What can I say that will do this book justice?

One sweet innocent Daddy's girl who has no idea that monsters are real and live just around the corner, until a broken closed off little boy enters her life and changes everything.

Their story is intense, beautiful and full of a longing that had my chest aching for them.

The self-control they both display for so long - Elise thinking her love is one sided and Aston trying to keep hold of a family he never thought he would have - thinking that what they were each feeling was wrong. But was it really? I didn't feel it was wrong, it wasn't just about some naughty sex because it was forbidden, this was so much more.

"That was the curse of addiction: it had your focus narrowed on one particular thing, and nothing else came close to it."

Without Elise's family Aston would still be a broken scared boy in some neglected house probably following in his father's footsteps. More than anything Elise helped him accept who he was, because she didn't care that others thought he was odd, he was beautiful and different in the best ways and Aston taught Elise not just to follow the crowd, to be herself.

But don't go thinking that this is just some sweet forbidden love story, it's intense, heartbreaking and sad at times and there is some major sexual tension going on. When they do finally come together ( quite literally HA! ) it was smoking hot. I knew he would be a sexual beast! I don't know how anyone could read this book and not fall in love with Aston, Arr that man *swoons*.

This is the first book by R.J. Lewis that I've read - though I've had 4 on my to-read list for ages - and now I'm not sure I can pick another one up without comparing it to this and finding it lacking because really, there isn't anything about this book that I can complain about.

3.5 stars. hmm well I didn't love this but i liked it. i absolutely love the hero. he really is why I kept reading he was perfect in my eyes. Poor damaged hero. love him! now the herione she annoyed me quite a bit. yes she is only 17 but come on how many times are you going to put yourself in stupid situations. I know she's young and very immature but I wanted a little more from her. She did love the hero very much and was always good to him. But the immaturity got to be too much at times. like the flirting (although I can't totally blame her for trying to move on ) drinking, the pushing. Hero was adopted by her parents at age 10. So they are dealing with being sister and brother (adopted ). They have never felt like siblings. since the day he came to their house they have loved each other. This didn't bother me. Now at times both of them calling their parents mom and dad got a little awkward but I just thought of it as if they were married. The dad was awesome. I loved him . Epilogue wasn't good enough. I wanted to see them grow . her grow. her become a mature adult but it did leave me happy that she (they) were heading in the right direction. Curious about the Dr.:)

Safety : They are each other's first everything. She flirts with a guy or two and one asks her out on a date. she agrees but it never happens. Hero wouldn't allow it. And only because she is trying to move on she accepted it. She meets this dr. who she thinks is hot and he tells her she is beautiful and pretty. It is not meant in a sexual way but at this point everyone left her, she is dealing with a tragic loss and she is depressed so she says it felt good for someone to tell her that. She is also attacked twice by the same guy. first time his hands were all other her and he tried to kiss her. she kneed him in the balls. second time she was really drunk(at a party) and the same guy pinned her on the floor and took off her pants and started to touch her but hero saves. Hero at one point thinks this girl is hot. his friend tells him she wants to talk to him. he is admittedly intrigued so he goes with his friend and walk other to her. he says it wasn't often he found a girl as uniquely attractive as the herione. his friend introduces them they talk for a bit . he says in his head for a few brief moments , he wondered what it would be like touching her, running his hand through her dark thick hair, squeezing her hips as he lifted her tiny body against his. it was an exciting thought he says. it made his blood run faster as he thought of how easy it would be to finally feel how warm thw body of a woman was. but then again he says " I rather fuck my math textbook". lol he get more connection out of it than a throwaway fuck, and besides. ..the only girl that ran through his head when he had sexual fantasies was blonde hair blue eyes(herione). he also says if it were up to him he wanted to imagine himself with other girls and move on from his obession. but it wasn't happening. so he tells the girl (because she ask him to help her work out) he can't. he has to pick up the herione. his friend got mad offered to pick her up but he says no. I honestly didn't get too mad at this . Both of them were really trying to fight against what they felt for each other. because they felt it was wrong.More so the hero did. herione was more willing to take a chance at first. Hero and heroine are separated for a little over 6 months. after the tragic incident hero can't deal and blames himself and leaves her. she begs him not to but he does. I forgave him. he came back and fought for her. not that it took much. they do get a HFN in my eyes. but they are only 18 and 19 so that's as it should be.

4 𝒐𝒃𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐒⭐

I recently discovered this author and she writes mind blowing books!Like REALLY!

“𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒏. 𝑺𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒈𝒐, 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒐𝒃𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒚𝒐𝒖"

This book follows the girl who's not supposed to fall in love with her adopted brother. The story line is ofcourse simple but the way she put it into writing is captivating. The heartache followed by the depression she battles was real.I connected with her instantly because she put hell a lot of drama and takes out on everyone! You connect with a character a lot more when you relate with her actions.Right?

Overall I loved this book so much and the there are cute scenarios but the author herself told that she deleted certain scenes and might write down the whole book.Hoping she does it because it was a kind of cliffhanger with a HEA and as usual readers don't like to be left just like that.

Again certain scenes didn't do well for me.For instance the scene where he confesses his love for her to his father and the way he reacted??*rolling my eyes* because no parent would be okay with his adopted boy fucking his daughter but he was okay with it.Maybe he expected this coming but that didn't change the story tiny bit and my interest for this book. Also I felt there was lack of grovelling. However it was nonetheless but a good read!

When I read the synopsis for this one I may have squeed just a little with excitement. Forbidden romance is so my thing. But while it started out really great and promising it didn't stay that way for very long. I found Elise to be childish and make the most odd choices. And while I loved Aston in the beginning I wasn't a huge fan by the end. And the Dad's response to his two kids being in a relationship was just downright bizarre. Such a shame!

Safe as fuck

Dual virgins
One and only lovers and they are each other’s first everything
Faithful during separation
Aston (H) and Elise (h)
Taboo: they are adopted siblings since she was nine years old and he was ten

*There is a scene when he talks to a woman at the gym and acknowledges her hotness but later we have the heroine also noticing a doctor who looks like Matt Bomer and they even become friends so nothing to worry when it comes to other people or cheating.

This book had so much potential but the author didn’t really explore it. He had a traumatic past that we should have given more details about and I also want to see him during separation.

Where the fuck is my grovel? He left her after their dad died when she begged him to not leave and when he comes back they are fucking each other the next day. She didn’t put a fight. They start arguing and she even apologized!!! Why the fuck is she apologizing for being mad when he left? Fuck that shit he was wrong.
The drama when he arrived is super weird, she is okay but then she isn’t okay anymore?! I was confuse at how strange they were. He was supposed to be sorry but he gets angry when she is afraid to try being together when he was the one who left her for seven months.

He is a genius and he is obsessed with her (she is too obsessed with him) but he also is crazy about numbers and it is said he can go weeks without living other than studying. But at the same time he is always going to parties with her because she likes it and he didn’t want her to be alone. He is also always doing things with her. So I was a little confused at how during the seven months he basically forgot her because he was too wrapped around his own head and his numbers but at the same time he was suffering?!

She suffered like hell, her dad died, he went away and her mother is being cold. I really tried understand her mother being a bitch to her by barely acknowledging her existence because of her grief but at the same time has been only seven months and she is already with her husband best friend?! Fuck that shit, if she is okay to try to move on she should have been there with her daughter.

I was disgusted by her mother. She is taking things slow with his dad friend but how slow is she really taking things if had been months and she is already willing to be with another person?! I was mad as fuck because when Aston arrived after leaving she runs to hug him and cries of happiness to see him but it is the day after Elise birthday and she was a cold bitch to her. She didn’t even went to the hospital after Elise was almost raped at her birthday. She didn’t hug her or showed any true emotion.

I think the book needed more depth. More groveling and more sex scenes and more description during them too.

▹TL;DR Review: May this type of love n e v e r find me. But you know what? I still grabbed my popcorn, kicked up my feet and was an eagerly entertained audience member.

─────────────────────────

💬 Summary:

Elise has always known safety and love because her father, a police officer, and her mother have given her security in childhood. When her father brings home a boy with a very dark past, Elise learns what it means to open up your comfortable life and let others in.

Aston understands numbers but doesn’t understand people. He’s smart beyond his years when it comes to logic, but he couldn’t be bothered to hold a conversation with most people. Except for Elise. She was everything to him. His sunshine, his smiles. And one day—after he’s adopted by her parents—she becomes his sister…

As the two grow up, they can’t hold back their mutual obsession with each other. Aston is protective of Elise’s good looks and the trouble that brings her.

Will they tell each other how they feel? What will become of their family? How much heartache can one person take?

🎯 My Thoughts:

I would like to (not) thank plagiarism for bringing me here. I SUPPORT R.J. Lewis and her original story and voice. For reference, this book was “allegedly” plagiarized by the author Laura J Robert for her book “Beverly”. Having read ~22% of Beverly before this news broke, I feel confident saying that it was nearly copy/paste in many of the paragraphs.

Taboo romance books are weird (not a judgement). You really do learn a lot about yourself diving into them. This particular trope wasn’t really for me, but I can see a glimmer of the appeal. What does that say about me? Mind your business, that’s what 😉

This was a fairly quick read—and it was definitely entertaining. It had moments where it was funny, emotional, and spicy. I had never read anything like it before. It had twists and turns. I truly wasn’t sure how these characters were going to end up until the end. The relationships were toxic AF, but I was entertained.

Obsessed by R.J. Lewis

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 stars
Subtitle: “The first half? Obsession. The second? Existential confusion. Also—Aston, sweetie, what made you think telling her DAD was a good idea?”

Let’s start with the obvious: I was absolutely eating up the first half of this book. Like snacking on angst, sipping sexual tension, fully invested in Elise and Aston’s high-drama chaos. I live for emotionally damaged people making bad decisions, and this book gave me just that—in glorious, gut-twisting, can’t-look-away style. Love between adopted siblings? I was all in for the fictional drama!

🔥 Part I – Passion, pain, and oh my god yes

Elise is this sassy, naive and inexperienced heroine who makes you want to shake her and then hug her. Aston is the emotionally tormented with that perfect blend of dominance, guilt, and “I’ll ruin you but also worship you” energy.

They’re adopted siblings. Best Friends and later more. Emotional disasters. The way R.J. Lewis builds their twisted, magnetic history? Beautifully broken. I was fully on board.

Their connection is raw, obsessive, and exactly the kind of morally grey intensity I wanted. There’s push and pull, heartbreak, and some delightfully toxic vibes. No lies—halfway through this, I was ready to give it 5 stars and recommend it to my therapist.

😶‍🌫️ Part II – Wait, what are we doing again?

Then... something shifts. Or rather, it stops shifting. The plot begins looping. Emotional breakthroughs don’t quite stick. Elise and Aston start spinning in circles, and not in the juicy, “we’re unraveling” kind of way—but more like “someone forgot to write the second act” way.

Side characters? Nonexistent. Development? Stalled. It’s like the book turned down the volume on everything that made it sharp and raw. And instead, we got pages of retreaded ground and monologues trying to convince me of things I already knew.

😳 The Dad Scene – No, really. WHY.

Let’s get to the real elephant in the room: Aston sits down and tells Elise’s dad all about their past, their sex, their whole messy saga. In detail. I had to put the book down and look around my room like I needed an emotional support dog.

Who does that?! What rational universe allows for that conversation? Was this supposed to be brave? Honest? Because it came off more like, “Here’s a list of things your daughter and I did and why it hurt. Want to weigh in, sir?”

The dad just... sits there. Receives it. Offers sage wisdom like he didn’t just hear about his daughter’s lowest emotional point from the guy who helped her reach it.

I was unwell. That itself days a lot.

💬 Final Thoughts

Elise: A walking wound. Frustrating but real. I still rooted for her.

Aston: Hot, haunted, occasionally noble... occasionally deeply cringe (see above).

Chemistry: Excellent early on, but fizzles under repetitive emotional spirals.

Pacing: Started like a freight train. Ended like a slow ride through an existential fog.

The Dad Scene™: Should be studied. And not in a good way.

He leaving her? Oh so frustrating! I get why, but still. UGH!

Verdict:

3 stars — Because I was obsessed. And then I wasn’t. The emotional gravity was there, but it couldn't sustain itself. It lost its teeth halfway through, and never quite bit back.

Would I recommend it? If you’re into messy, destructive romance with high tension and can forgive a few missteps (and one very awkward dad chat), go for it. Just don’t expect the second half to hit like the first.

And please, for the love of boundaries—let’s stop telling dads everything. 🤣

IT'S A STANDALONE!!! For those of you who read R. J., most books are a duology that I've read, but this wasn't so I was thrown in for a surprise. LOVED. I don't how R. J. does it but every time her characters are so heartbreakingly real and this was no exception. She and Penelope Douglas are probably my top two favorite NA authors.

Something about this book, something about these characters, just connected with me and I couldn't stop reading.

I know this book has had some mixed reviews, and some of my dearest GR friends really slammed this book too, so going in I really didnt have high expectations. But I totally fell in love with the longing and the fear that weaved through every page.

I really don't think I could write a review to do this book justice. I could picture each scene so clearly and understand each character so thoroughly (the good ones and the bad). I loved Aston's mind and determination at self control and the way he protected Elise with the wrath of a thunderous god. And I loved that Elise was allowed to be naive and cheerful and foolish, the way 17 year old girls, spoilt by their over protective fathers and brothers, usually are in real life. The way her character developed throughout the book was all the more heartbreaking because of her radiant innocence at the beginning.

I know some people have issues with the father in this book, but I really understood where he was coming from.

And even though it seemed somewhat rushed towards the end, I still think this is the best forbidden love romance I've read all year.

Loved it.

R. J. Lewis how wonderful you are. I had a feeling I'd love this as I do many of her stories. This was intense. Aston is so different than most guys and his intelligence was amazing which unfortunately he acquired under the worst circumstances. He was brought home one day by a police officer... Elise's father. and eventually became their adoptive son. Elise was jealous at first but then learning of his childhood only of 10yrs she softened and became protective of him. The closeness that grew, it was amazing and I loved little Aston from the start! He was viewed as weird at school, he never spoke, emotionless face, and after he learned to read his face was always in a book. It soon became Elise and Aston, nothing and no one else mattered.

The description of Aston was blonde shoulder length hair... wore it in a man~ bun! That is definitely a first for me as young as he was. His character was, ahhh, amazing! Elise was just as wonderful but not as great as he. Gosh I adore him! My inner cougar was out and I couldn't help myself. This is one in a long time that I could not put down!

This may be spoilerish.

Ok I don't know why I continued with this book. I loved RJ Lewis's books but this one didn't really work for me. It kind of read like a YA but with sex. I guess this goes into the "brother" romance? Aston came into Elise's life when she was 9 he was 10. Her parents adopted him. That was a little weird for me. I mean they were best friends and they said they've never thought about each other as siblings but I couldn't help but disagree. Then when they started to hook up I thought it was kind of creepy. Then the Aston tells the Dad that he's in love with his sister and is sleeping with her in the house? Ewe! Also I couldn't stand Elise she was so dramatic. Also once the dad passes away the mom shacks up with his partner? Strange. I will read more books from this author but this one just didn't sit well with me.

Great first half, sweet and fun and low angst, it had all the things I liked - young innocent love between foster kids, I was on my way to rating it 5 stars when the second half happened! It all went to sh!t - there was drama, the h was scary and then crazy, the H became stupid and then ran away and the supporting characters started acting out of character. 2 stars for the second half:(

I'm averaging it out to an overall 3.5 stars!

Ack, this book is so hard to review. The 3-star rating isn't because it's a bad book - I devoured the thing, and now my tired ass is paying for it at work!!

The thing is, there were 5-star parts to this book, and there were 1-star parts. There weren't many parts in between. I figured the best thing for me to do would be to call it even at 3.

Obsessed by R. J. Lewis is told mostly from Elise's POV. She's a teenage girl, and begins her story by looking back to her childhood and the day her father, a police officer, brought home a scrawny, frightened 10-year-old boy when she was nine. The boy is Aston, and her parents legally adopt him. He's legally her brother, though there is no blood relation, and they are raised as siblings.

From the get-go, Elise is intrigued by Aston. She befriends him, and finds that he was horribly abused by his father - who murdered his mother and sisters and thought he murdered Aston, but he survived. From there, Aston is put into foster care, where he is starved and neglected. Just an awful, sad story all-around.

Elise is there for him, though. They become close friends, and as they grow during their teenage years, they develop extremely strong emotions toward one another. Is it love? Obsession? Both? Well, it's definitely obsession, no doubt about that.

Aston is the yin to Elise's yang. She's outgoing, popular, bubbly, emotional, wears her heart on her sleeve. Aston is quiet, reserved, intellectual, and keeps his cards close to his vest. They have electrifying chemistry, but neither knows how the other feels, and they are not forthcoming with their feelings for some time. Elise is concerned about rejection from Aston, whereas Aston seems to be more concerned about rejection by the family as a whole. This, of course, is understandable. He feels indebted to his adoptive father, and does not want to put a rift in that relationship. He desperately does not want to disappoint his parents.

There will be many spoilers from here on out....

Aston is a protective - but controlling - brother, though of course, their relationship goes well outside sibling boundaries. He simultaneously pushes her away, yet will not allow her to pursue other relationships. After Elise and Aston reveal their feelings to one another, Aston experiences guilt and fear, while Elise only feels elation. Aston pushes Elise away, which hurts her deeply. After her anger subsides, she eventually tries to have a friendship with Aston, while holding him at arms' length. She decides to get a job to take her mind off things, planning to work at a grocery store. Aston, however, gets her a job at the place he works - where he can keep an eye on her. He is the absolute KING of mixed signals.

Elise meets a boy at work she feels she might be able to develop a connection with. He makes her laugh, treats her with respect, and they have a lot in common. She is trying to move on from Aston - but he will not let her. He sabotages her attempt at going on a date with the boy, both by threatening the boy and feeding their parents false information about him so they will not allow the date. Elise is miffed at first, but quickly gives in. She settles for whatever Aston will give her, which is making out in his bedroom in secret.

One of the most frustrating things about their relationship was how much of a doormat Elise is. I've been trying to put myself in her situation. She is 17 years old, emotional and hormonal, and views Aston as the love of her life. I don't want to be too hard on her, but she never holds Aston accountable for his actions. He chooses what she will do, who she will date (no one), where she will work. At the same time, he remains emotionally closed off to her. At times, he uses his tragic past to manipulate her into forgiving him.

But the worst of it was

This book was well written. The characters were a bit underdeveloped, but the story was good. I did like it and do recommend it, but be forewarned that there are some extremely frustrating parts (if you're anything like me, anyway!).

Happy reading!!

Yes yes yes!!! It's been far to long since I have devoured a RJ Lewis book. I completely fell in love with this story it was beautifully beautiful. I have read my share of stepbrother type books before but this is NOTHING like that at all.

Aston & Elise are thrown together at a young age. Aston gets adopted and they become "brother and sister" I loved there relationship from the beginning and I loved Aston he came from nothing his story is sad but Elise gives him something to live for taboo or not. Elise I liked her there were moments when I was shaking my head, I had to remember she's at a very young age in this book and I would be making the same decisions as she was. I love Aston such a loving character I felt like he just wanted to make the right choice but with everything being thrown at him he was struggling.

Obsessed is going straight to one of my 2016 favorites a beautiful story about heartache, heartbreak, and finding out who you are.

Okey Dokey....that was pretty good.
First and foremost, this book needs a follow up book. Don't get me wrong, it ends with closure and a HEA, but it felt like it was only their first Chapter of their lives being told. I would like to read about how they tackle obstacles and their obsession towards each other when they grow older.

Secondly, this was a stepbrother/adopted brother book. There are tons of these books coming out now, but I thought that this book was one of the better ones. It drew me in and it truly did feel forbidden.

Thirdly, while this was a dual pov between the Hero and heroine, the heroine got the majority of "talking" time. Normally I prefer this, but this time I would have loved to know what Ashton was doing in their time apart.

Lastly, I liked the emotion and the intensity of the situations in this book. The self destructing behavior and depression was what I wanted to see in a obsession book. This book didn't disappoint! :)

This was just an ok read for me. I love the writing as I am a big fan of R.J. Lewis's work. There were just times when the actions of the hero or heroine ticked me off! When I have recovered more I will write more to this review! LOL
