Love never comes easy, especially to those who aren’t prepared for it…
Twenty-four-year-old musician Charlie Stone has always played the classics. It’s just another day of playing the same old songs until he notices her—Anna Garrett, a beauty with cold-bitten, rosy cheeks and a coffee cup clutched in her hands.

Five songs later, and she’s still standing there. He vows to steal her heart the only way he knows how.

In the heart of London, chance encounters are few and far between, but a warm melody can bring people together…

New day, same old disappointments. Anna Garrett believes her luck at finding love has stalled before it’s even started when she’s stood up for a second date with a friend of her housemate.
But when she sees a handsome musician playing his heart out, everything changes. Memories come flooding back. As she listens to the music, Anna realises she must take matters of love and luck into her own hands.

When opposites attract, sparks fly…

After a series of wonderful, unconventional dates, feisty Anna and hopeless romantic Charlie declare their love for each other. But their newfound bond is rocked to its core by a New Year’s Eve party gone awry that threatens to throw them off course.

Finally, a bright future appears to be within their grasp. But when Anna’s world fractures and distance comes between them, the real work begins.

J.E.Warren currently resides in a somewhat sleepy seaside town, and is a British Romance/YA writer who has a long standing love for milky tea, travel, shaggy haired 90’s band Hanson, and small dogs.

She enjoys writing and bringing to life realistic and relatable characters, especially strong, sharp and savvy females who aren’t afraid to speak their mind.

Music has always played a big part in her life – from noisy rock to reggae, folk to pop punk and everything else in between. And is a constant source of inspiration when writing, especially when plotting new ways to steal reader’s hearts, or make them swoon (usually with the help of guitar playing heartthrobs.)

When she’s not writing, J.E likes to curate perfect playlists – of which she has many, and catch up on her favourite shows (again too many), though you can be certain to find Buffy The Vampire Slayer on heavy rotation.

I remember purchasing this book on Kindle over a year ago when it was free and came up quite randomly on recommended books based on your purchases list. After seeing from the blurb that it was a romance with music involved, I immediately jumped at the chance. However from the difference between reading dates, it is clear to see that honestly, I struggled to finish it.

Charlie is a busker on the streets of London and one day by chance notices a woman called Anna holding a cup of takeaway coffee and in a bid to get her attention, plays some songs. After five attempts, she hasn't left the area on a rush-hour train or bus. Instead, she's transfixed by Charlie. Lines We Forget follows their love story from the encounter on a busy street and how a failed date that Anna was meant to be going to ended up finding a potential form of true love in Charlie. I loved the fact that Anna was from Lyme Regis, if you live in the UK or plan to visit, please go to Lyme, the coastal landscape is absolutely beautiful and was very reminiscent of my childhood days staying down there with my parents and eating ice-cream along the seafront.

I found it difficult to connect to either Anna or Charlie as characters and apart from a NYE party in which things go wrong and Anna's thinking of returning to live in Lyme after losing her job, there wasn't a lot of conflict either. I do love the idea behind the story but I feel I wasn't the right kind of reader to have been reading this. Overall, I am left with mixed thoughts and so felt a 3 star rating was appropriate.

description

When the author asked me if I would like to review this book, I was super happy. New adult is right up my alley, and the premise sounded good, and it was in London? Sign me up! So as you can imagine, I really really wanted to love this book… I didn’t though.

The writing was the main reason I couldn’t quite enjoy this book. The book is told on the 3rd person, present tense, and so far so good, my problem was that it was a very complentative and introspective writing, with very little dialogue and very deep and emotional thoughts. Which is fine, actually, it was kind of beautiful at times, but I also found it slow, sometimes boring and unnecessary. To be honest it’s just not what I’m looking for while reading a contemporary romance.

Now, the story itself is interesting, it’s the story of a relationship, its ups and mostly downs, during 2 years. Charlie and Anna meet, they date, they fall in love, and they have to face real, day to day obstacles in their relationship. Is there’s one thing that this relationship is, is REAL. This also means that there are a lot of small things and conflicts, and not major ones, which made the first 60% of the book really slow.

I liked Charlie, he was a romantic and shy guy, a little lost and he was relatable. I couldn’t find any connection to Anna, however, I actually finished the book still uncertain about her and how I felt about her. And while their relationship was sweet at times, I was never 100% sold on it.

In the end, I had a lot of problems with this book, I found it slow and somewhat boring. I do think it is a real portrayal of a relationship, with small issues taking their toll on the day to day, such as lack of money, distance, or even the weather, but ultimately is not what I look forward to read in a contemporary romance. I do think it’s definitly a “me” problem and not a book problem, because I can totally see how this book might appeal to a lot of you. So, my suggestion is read it, maybe you’ll fall in love with it. :)

ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't read a contemporary book like this in a while, so I'm really pleased that I enjoyed this one.

I loved how Anna and Charlie met. It was pure romcom swoony first sightings. The characters in this book did have to face some difficulties, but it wasn't over the top, and it added well to the story.

Charlie was adorable. He was seriously so sweet and kind hearted. I loved him! Anna was spirited and also quite lovable. They were from different backgrounds, but that didn't stop them from falling in love. They had their ups and downs, and they were by no means perfect, but they stayed together and fought for their love.

This story was sweet and realistic. I'm looking forward to more books from this author!

4 BROWN EYED STARS !!!

Lines We Forget by J.E Warren is a very enjoyable read. Its a sweet love story which is very well written and the innocence will tug at your heartstrings. Its not complicated, yet its engaging. Its written in a time-lapse fashion, that will reveal the strength and weaknesses of their relationships over the time. I really like the simplicity of the story and it felt realistic and not some obnoxious fantasy. A very cute, romantic and fascinating tale of innocent love.

Charlie Stone is a young musician waiting to be discovered. He is talented, handsome, A VERY BRITISH GUY (need I say more) *drooooling* !!! He comes from an obnoxiously rich family but has no desire to pretend or continue the snobbish legacy. His dream is music and thats what he wants to pursue, even if it means living on his own without Stone family’s resources. He is a romantic and waiting on his forever who wants him for his love and not for his pretentious family wealth. Its just another day for him playing around the corner, when his eye catches this beautiful girl across the road with brown eyes that caught his breath and she might be his forever. Wanting to get her attention, he plays the only song that might get her attention.

As fate would have it, Anna Garret (A very young, beautiful, feisty woman, who is a PR in a swanky firm, but resents the pretentiousness) catches the lyrics and despite her apprehension goes to the handsome musician singing his heart out.

A mere gesture of appraisal turns into a full blown conversation and over the time their friendship blooms. With the series of dates, their relationship gets stronger and their love for each other is apparent. They are one of those couple who looks at each other with adorning eyes and always in love. But when the reality kicks them hard, their new found love hits a rocky road. Things are getting complicated and emotions are haywire. A long distance is not what they can survive, yet the love is too deep.

Will there be second chances ?

Will their innocent love get squashed by the harsh realities of the world?

To know the fate of their innocent love, Read "Lines We Forget by J.E. Warren"

This debut novel is a sweet and realistic look at young love. It has everything you expect see in real life situations: the anticipation of the first kiss, the spark of passion that draws to people together, the comradery and friendship of a new relationship. There are many ups and downs in this book that are viewed through a lenses of authenticity, giving the reader a story that sounds like one you would hear from a friend while sharing tales of love and loss. Lines We Forget features two very real and flawed characters, two people who have high hopes and expectations for what they want from life. Charlie and Anna meet by chance and fate intervenes. These two are struggling in their separate realities and a spark between them gives hope to situations that are at times frustrating and disheartening. When you read their story, you cannot help but be caught up in their adventures. Friendship and instant attraction deepens into love. These two come from different backgrounds but together they create a reality that is sweet, brimming with hope for the future and a safe place from the harsh moments of life.

One thing that makes this book a great contemporary romance is that it is real. Anna and Charlie fight and they make up. They jump to conclusions, creating drama and angst. They must learn to trust one another and support each other. These two become a couple you root for. You watch their relationship develop over years and it is a slow burn. The story and relationship flows so very well. There is not a HUGE life altering and life shattering moment that destroys everything and an over the top reconciliation. Instead, it is a gritty reality of what life is like.

The writing is good in this book, giving the reader access to both Anna and Charlies thoughts. We are able to understand their reasoning and feel their heartache when things go wrong. They are both experiencing young growing love, a kind of love that takes a piece of your heart and soul. Warren does a great job of fulfilling the expectations of the reader and giving a story that is sweet, real, and hopeful. I am excited to see what else she comes up with.

This is an unusual love story set in London. Charlie is a musician who despite his privileged background craves a simpler life, filled with music, which he funds working in a music shop and busking outside a London Underground station. Country girl Anna works in London, living the dream; except she doesn’t like her job or her bitchy colleagues and is fed up of being constantly set up by her flatmate with materialistic arrogant men.
Charlie’s attraction to Anna is instant and powerful and he tries to charm her with his music. Anna doesn’t notice him at first until he plays a song that captures her heart and evokes loving memories of her childhood. Charlie and Anna are opposite in background, family and aspirations but they form an unlikely bond. Seen through Anna and Charlie’s eyes we experience their emotional highs and lows as they try to discover their happy ever after.
For me Anna and Charlie are difficult to warm to. However they are realistic characters and reflect twenty-first century relationships. The setting is vibrant and contrasts with the introspective nature of the story, which is full of angst.
If you like your romance totally focused on the hero and heroine and a little quirky, this story should appeal to you.
I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This a a sweet tale about young love which is often beautiful, confusing and terrifying all at the same time. Lines We Forget is written in first person, present tense and is well written. I enjoyed the sometimes humorous banter between the main characters and laughed out loud at some points. The characters were believable.

Overall, I liked the story but I have to deduct one star in the rating because there were a couple of places in the book that dragged on a little too long without action or dialogue. I think those parts could've benefited with showing the reader what was happening with the characters instead of telling us. This is not to say that I didn't tear up or enjoy the read. I did. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a sweet contemporary romance.

This is a nice simple love story set in England. There isn’t anything sensationally dramatic. Boy sees girl and is intrigued. Girl likes boy. They date. They break apart because of challenging life event and a bit of immaturity. They reunite.

What makes this book special is its authenticity. The characters are young and struggling to make money. Unlike too many romance novels that are centered around billionaires. The characters are flawed with uncertainty. Many romance novels assume that once the couple falls for one another that it is a 100% done deal. Finally, the dialog is categorically English, which not only amuses me as an American but sets the tone well.

Most of all, being serenaded in the street is the epitome of romantic.

This book was a DNF (did not finish) - I couldn't get into it. The plot was slow, the characters were not at all relatable or compelling. I tried to get into this book several times, but just couldn't. I very rarely leave a book unfinished but this one was just a no go for me.

Thanks so much to the author for providing me with an eARC for review. All opinions are my own.

Ok, where do I start? I really enjoyed this book. I found it had just the right amount of fluff, without being mind-numbing.

Let's talk about the two main characters, Charlie and Anna. Charlie is your quintessential, blond, British, guitar playing, singing male lead. He is witty and smart, and I knew from the very beginning that I was going to like him. Anna, on the other hand, is a little snarky, and at times, was a little bit annoying. I just found that Charlie was putting more work into the relationship, and she kept putting herself first. Now, I'm not saying that she should bend herself to Charlie's wishes, but she just kept making decisions based on her pride that effected both of them, but didn't take into consideration what his feelings would be.

This was your typical insta-love set up, but it didn't feel insta-lovey. They saw each other from afar and decided to get a coffee. It wasn't like they met, fell in love instantly and got married the next day, but it was a fairly quick meeting. I think, just because of the way the story is written, you can feel the tension and chemistry, even before they meet. Their relationship started quick, and went well, and then there was a misunderstanding, they got back together, then another argument, etc. Like I said, it was a very typical layout for a contemporary.

I do think, however, that this story was still good. The issues they had, they weren't petty issues. They were real-life, could happen to anyone issues. That being said, this was still a fairly light read, I read it in pretty much three sittings, staying up way to late for two of them, in the span of around 24 hours. It's the perfect, quick contemporary read that doesn't make you ball your eyes out, but it isn't so dramatic and reused that it makes you want to throw the book across the room.

Ok, this has been kind of an all over the place review, but trust me, if you are looking for a book with some funny moments, some serious moments, and is a fairly quick read, this is the book for you!

The writing wasn't good enough to overlook such a boring storyline. Sorry but I can't recommend this one.
