To See You

Rate this book
A new emotional standalone from Rachel Blaufeld.
No cliffhanger, only hard-earned unexpected love.
And some angst.

What is it about this guy?
On paper, he’s one hundred percent wrong for me. His e-mails are equal parts annoying and funny.
Okay, more funny than annoying. More like refreshing. Different. Exciting.
But as I stand next to him now, he’s giving me head-to-toe tingles, and I find myself dwelling on his e-mails.

Meet smart, sexy career girl and New York snob, Charli Richards. She has everything except happiness until the day she meets Layton Griffin. It’s a random encounter on an airplane; it couldn’t mean anything, right?

Layton isn’t even remotely close to who Charli sees herself hooking up with . . . ever. Her mom and best friend agree he’s not for her, but he makes her feel something exciting, awakens her world.

But then Layton changes, going to great lengths for Charli to see him for who he really is.
Will those changes bring them closer together, or will she never be able to see him in the same way again?

A recent poll of her readers described Rachel Blaufeld as insightful, generous, articulate, and spunky. Originally a clinical social worker, Rachel creates broken yet redeeming characters. She’s been known to turn up the angst like cranking up the heat in the dead of winter. A devout coffee drinker and doughnut eater, Rachel spends way too many hours in local coffee shops, downing the aforementioned goodies while she plots her ideas.

As a side note, Blaufeld, also a long-time blogger and an advocate of woman-run anything, is fearless about sharing her opinion. She captured the ears of stay-at-home and working moms on her blog, BacknGrooveMom, chronicling her adventures in parenting tweens and running a business, often at the same time. To her, work/life/family balance is an urban legend, but she does her best. Rachel has also blogged for The Huffington Post and Modern Mom. Most recently, her insights can be found in USA TODAY Happy Ever After Blog, where she shares conversations at “In Bed with a Romance Author.”

Rachel lives around the corner from her childhood home in Pennsylvania with her family and two beagles. When she isn’t writing, she can be found courtside, tweeting about hoops as her son plays, or walking around the house wearing earplugs while her other son, the drummer, bangs away.

Girl meets boy and she doesn't really see him; boy meets girl and she's all he can see.

Rachel Blaufeld always seems to write romances that aren't your every day cookie cutter stories- and I love her for it. Her characters are imperfect, their stories are unique and their journeys are heartfelt. To See You is no exception.

Our story starts out with a successful fitness editor named Charli. Charli lives in New York and can be a bit selfish and judgmental at times. You might not love her at the start of the book, but that's okay. When Charli first sees Layton, the guy sitting next to her in seat 2D, she gets a little judgey. You see, Layton is a little bigger than the average guy. He's not got the perfect body. He knows this and he can be a little self-conscious about it. Layton may be a little larger in the size department, but he also has a larger than average heart. A larger than average personality, and is one of the kindest guys out there. But Charli doesn't see that. Not at first. She does recognize his kind eyes, though.
His eyes were the kindest I'd ever seen. I could get lost inside them for a lifetime... Well, if the rest of the package was right for me.

After speaking with Layton for just a few minutes, Charli feels bad about her perceptions. He's truly a nice guy. And once they land and go their separate ways, Charli can't get him out of her head. And it goes both ways. Layton is completely enamored by Charli and has been since the second he saw her. Charli likes the person Lay is. She even finds him attractive, she just doesn't know how to feel about that.

 photo 21714499-401D-45D9-9A77-C144E9C4F023_zpsbhsge7tq.jpg

Charli is far from the perfect heroine, but here is the thing about her: SHE KNOWS IT. This is why some of her behaviors didn't bother me as much as they normally would. She didn't feel good about the way she was and was acting and she wanted to be better. Layton was completely lovable and relatable from page one. He isn't perfect either, but he's pretty darn close. Layton and Charli have more in common then they think. They're both at a place where they want to make some big changes in their life. Charli with her career, and Lay with is health. This connects then even more.

What I liked most abut this story is the fact that it showcased real people. It showed not to be judgmental and beauty is so much more than skin deep. Sometimes the perfect person for you might not come in the package you expect. I also loved that the author reiterated that Charli wanted and developed feelings for Layton long before any of his changes were made, not because of them. That was important to me.

To See You is a sweet story with a great message and a lot of depth. It has a wonderful mix of sexy, sweet, and angsty. Rachel's writing is consistently strong. Her characters are flawed, yet easily redeemable. If you're looking for a romance that's not the same old same old, this is one I recommend!

5 'I see you' STARS

Rachel Blaufeld knows how to give you something unexpected but so real. She doesn’t deal in fairy tales or romantic dreams although in the end, that’s exactly what you get.

“Life isn’t like an editing job where all the t’s have to be crossed or the i’s dotted. It’s like a mix tape, a compilation of all the best hits, some slow and others fast. Some songs aren’t my favorite, but mixed with the others they make a great album.”

Layton Griffin is a successful guy with his own music business in LA, no problem getting women, friends and a loving furry, four-legged girl, Harriette. I want to say ‘but’ here but I won’t. Lay’s good looking, funny, smart, endearing and overweight. [Lay, I deliberately didn't say 'nice']

When Charleston (Charli) Richards first lays eyes on Layton, all she sees is a chunky monkey sitting in 2D, the first class seat right beside her. She immediately dismisses him and prejudges him as a fat loser.

Well, she’s soon eating her words, or actually choking on them. Charli’s drawn to him. Lay breaks down her bitchy, superficial veneer for the brief flight. And that scares the shit out of her. Charli’s has a plan:

own a rent-controlled condo in New York City (check), have the perfect body (she works out like a fiend), the perfect job (she hates her job) and the perfect guy (lots of good-looking men but no one worth it). Layton does not fit that dream, at all.

So ensues a cross-country cyber friendship with a few in-person meets. Lay can’t stop thinking about Charli and wanting to be with her. She's unattainable but he can't help himself. And his attraction isn't only physical. He likes Charli. He sees beneath the "image" and finds her beautiful inside and out.

While Charli likes him, like really likes him, she doesn’t want to. She fights it tooth and nail and does some pretty shitty things that she's disgusted with herself for.

This was such a great read and says so much about how people can get wrapped up in “perfect” on the surface that they miss perfection right in front of them. Lay is perfect.

“…but it felt like he was trying to really see me. Get me. All of me.”

This is a refreshing, poignant and heartwarming read. I just love picking up a book by Rachel because I never know what I’m going to get but every time she puts a smile on my face and gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling in my chest. I highly recommend this!

Layton likes a bit of NASTY.

Just a warning, there’s a good chance you might finish reading this review scratching your head and complaining that Stacey has LOST IT!! I kind of have a problem, I liked it…but I hated it too. I really enjoyed looking into our heroes mind, seeing him work through his feelings and deal with them. On the flip side, this story had parts that left me scrunching up my nose like a bad smell wafted from my kindle.

I actually liked this story…but I absolutely HATED the heroine. She is NASTY!! I don’t like nasty women and this one takes the cake. Judgemental, snobby and critical is the best way to describe her. Now, on the other hand, we have one of the BEST heroes EVER!! He’s sweet, kind and confident in an understated way. He definitely doesn’t think he’s better than anyone else even though he’s successful and happy. In some ways, I wanted a different heroine for the hero. In other ways, I can see that time has forced these two to look into themselves, assess, and make changes to improve their lives.

To See You starts with a Prologue that gives us a glimpse of what was to come. Yeppers, we’re going back and forth in time. In this case, it’s not a bad thing as I realised when I started Chapter One that the prologue gave me a little hope that things would improve. Chapter One introduces us to NASTY Charli and her first impression of the hero, Layton. These impressions are not good…and they're solely based on looks. Seeing Charli’s thoughts did not endear her to me AT ALL. What made it worse is that she doesn’t JUST think it, she actually sends snide texts to her best friend about it too. NASTY. She had a lot of work to do to get back into my good graces.

Layton is a little bit chubby. He knows it, knows he SHOULD do something about it, but has a pretty good life despite the extra weight. Layton has a career that he loves and is successful in, plenty of women willing to sleep with the chubby guy and friends that he enjoys spending time with. Plus, he has a very special lady in his life…his dog Harriette. With all of these positives in his life, he knows he should be content. Then one day he is on a flight to New York and sees something he wants…but knows might be out of his reach. Layton wants a bit of NASTY.

To See You takes us on a journey of discovery. We see the struggle that Charli goes through when she's attracted to someone who isn't her type. Charli has spent her whole life on a path to where she is at right now. Unfortunately, now that she has attained success in her career, she's coming to realise it's not all it was cracked up to be. Layton could have settled with what he's got, but he realises after he met Charli that he wants more. How much is Layton willing to do to get NASTY?

Charli realises she’s been living a shallow life that has been influenced by her mother and best friend. She takes a hard look at herself and doesn’t like what she sees. Layton, kind of by accident, falls into a way more healthy lifestyle. On the outside he’s a hot guy, inside, he’s still adjusting. Sometimes it’s actually easier being the chubby guy that people overlook. When they see each other after a long break, neither are confident they can mend what NASTY broke, but both are willing to try.

I tell you what…I nearly packed my bags and left at 84%. I knew what was coming and was completely frustrated that the author went there. BUT…the angst ended up being short-lived, so I got over it quickly and I was glad I kept going.

This is a story that is at times sweet, at times funny and at times very steamy. Neither Layton nor Charli is perfect. Both of them lacked confidence in themselves and each other which could have left them lonely and heartbroken. Layton should have respected himself enough not to settle for Charli, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Charli shouldn’t have listened to her mother. That woman was WACKED!!

In the end, I enjoyed To See You and was happy with the conclusion of the story. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be interested in reading more of her work.

Stacey is Sassy, received an advanced copy of this story. The copy provided is not the final copy and may be subject to edits and changes.

I 've been really lookin forward to this book an I wasn't disappointed at al I think I even learnt something from it how to never judge a book by its cover I think we can al say we have done that but this story just showed me that we shouldnt cause that person could b a pretty awesome one

Charli as done pretty well for herself she finished school early finished college early an had a brilliant job but was it what she really wanted she had dreams but bein a fitness editor was really part of her plan she has had a few hard times she lost her dad an recently lost her grandmother an thats where she meets the very handsome an witty Layton on a plane home from her grandmother's funeral but Layton isn't what u could call your typical sexy lean man an when she saw him she judged him just like everyone else did but once they started chatting she actually did have a nice time with him an found that he was NICE guy but she could be seen with a guy like Layton could she

Layton is a great guy as a good job work with on films adding music an he is great at it Layton isn't your normal sexy muscular guy but he is a great guy he as had his share of girls an he as good friends an when he seen Charli coming to sit next to him on the plane he seen the look she gave him just the same as every one did but there was something in her eyes that told him something an he couldnt help but reach out to her after there time on there flight didn't really go the way he wanted but he couldnt stop thing about the gorgeous blonde

I really luvd this story I did find that I didn't like Charli in parts cause of the way she was with Layton cause I luvd him from the beginning but then I thought would I of been the same as her but the way he was with her was just amazing he forgave her for so much but he was just so caring with everyone but he didn't want to be this NICE guy anymore he wanted to b the guy who got the girl Ye it sound cliche but it's true I was there with my pom poms cheering him on from the very start he deserved it

5 - The nice guy and the bitch... Stars!

I don’t think it is a secret that I am a huge fan of Rachel Blaufeld’s writing, everything I have read by her has left me surprised, a bit emotionally drained, but happy at the same time, because she always manages to give a fresh spin on every story she writes.

You go in expecting one thing, and usually end up coming away having a completely different set of expectations met as well.

To See You pretty much did the same thing. I got what I was expecting from Charli and Layton’s story, but Rachel added so many more layers to it. I think what bought the story home even more for me is the fact that I have been in Layton’s shoes on more than one occasion in relation to a lot of the situations he finds himself in when it comes to his attempts to try and get to know Charli, his nerves at taking the plunge, and ultimately masking a lot of what he is really feeling with jokes and carefree smiles.

Corresponding with her had become my favourite pastime, an addiction I wasn’t willing to admit to having…

Both characters are on the cusp of making changes in their lives, I think with Charli it’s kind of a long-time-coming situation, this is a woman that looking in from the outside you would class as having it all, but for Charli, appearances are most certainly deceiving.

I’m a twenty-eight-year-old editor in the Big Apple with everything going for me. I’m a catch, right?

With Layton, his appearance is everything that anyone first notices about him, and when it comes to Charli initially her assessment of him, leaves a lot to be desired.

I was an outcast… She was a perfectionist.

But as the book progresses, and you read of Lay’s repeated attempts to crack the shell, and break through the Bitch-wall she has so skilfully built around herself, you start to realize the vulnerability and insecurity comes in more than just the obvious forms.

She tried to hide behind the bitchy attitude, the New York snobbery, but for a minute or five, I broke her down. I saw behind her pissy shell and couture armor, and I wanted that. All of that.

I loved this story, I think mainly because the author took a character that essentially she knew most readers would initially dislike intensely due to her attitude and actions, and ran with it, it wasn’t overdone, but as a reader it was elaborate enough to leave me with that uncomfortable clench in my stomach for a lot of the first half of the book. But as the story between this couple progresses and you learn of the motivations behind the character that Charli is you understand that while Layton’s flaws are perceived as external issues, Charli is the one that goes on the bigger journey out of the two of them for me.

I stared at her eyes and saw my heaven…

I think this is a book that everyone will adore, but some people will 'Get it' more than others, especially if you have experienced or are experiencing the struggles that Layton went through, its one of those reads you put down and smile about though, I like a book that makes me smile, even if there are a few tears on the journey to get there.

"I won’t forget it."

To See You is a novel I actually found kind of refreshing. I'll tell you this, right off the bat... Charli (our heroine) is probably a character you are going to HATE. At least for the first part of the book.

SHE. IS. A. B-TCH!

There is no nice way to say it. She's judgmental and snobby. She knows it's wrong, she feels shame for thinking and feeling the way she does, but NOT ENOUGH to change. Charli is a woman who is on her way up in the world.

She's working and living in NYC.
She's an editor at one of the best online megasites.
She socializing with fancy/upper crust people.
She's pretty.
Smart.
Skinny.
And for all intents and purposes she has her shit together.

But Charleston Richards is miserable. She doesn't think she is, but Charli is on a path to nowhere. And I hate to say this, but she is a representation of so many of us. I'm sure she will be judged and torn apart! I can almost guarantee that people will start reading and their faces will fall and the human instinct of righteous anger, the need to condemn, will set in. But I think, in some way, Charli is a small piece of all of us.

We sit and judge EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Charli is an AMPLIFIED version of the world we live in.

She's... Selfish.
Insecure.
Sad.
Lonely.
Judgmental.

She see's flaws in herself but instead of confronting those, she turns it on others. At first, she is not likable. But this book is about peeling back those layers and getting to the root of WHY. And for that reason... I ended up LOVING her.

To See You is a refreshing, sweet, and angsty romance that I finished in one sitting. Charleston and Layton meet by chance on an airplane. Layton is warm and charming, the antithesis of Charli. Charli, of course, passes a quick and swift judgement of Lay, deeming him not good enough instantly. But Layton's infectious smile and kindness wears her down and a conversation, that leads to a friendship, is started.

You see, Layton is chubby. He's a BIG boy. But Lay is happy. He is EVERYTHING a good hero should be. He's accepting of people, life, differences. And I think that's what keeps you reading.

YOU WANT GOOD THINGS FOR LAYTON.

He is so lovable, so magnetic and charming, you want him to have what his heart desires. And his heart wants Charli. She's all he can think about. And even though our heroine is a mess, he is ready to do and be whatever she needs. He just wants a chance.

Honestly, in the moments when you think you can't handle anymore of Charli, Lay is there to smooth things over. That man is the single element that kept this book together.

This story was really sweet. It's about looking DEEPER, at not only yourself, but at others too. It's about loving people for WHO THEY ARE, NOT WHAT THEY ARE. Our appearances don't define us, our hearts and actions do. And sometimes getting to the place of BEING A GOOD person is something that has to be worked on.

I'll end with this, my first Rachel Blaufeld book was a COMPLETE success. It was angsty, sexy, and compelling. She's a great writer who clearly tells a story well. She doesn't seem to shy away from ugly, harsh truths and I really LOVE that. I like a writer who is bold and gives you characters that are flawed, yet makes them good at the end. Overall, I LOVED it. And I can't wait for you to read, I'm dying to hear what you think!

Charli can’t wait to be home. On the airplane, she is seated next to Layton. She isn’t happy that she’s sitting next to him and she’s even less happier when he tries to talk to her. Layton is attracted to Charli and hopes for a friendly conversation during the flight. Charli isn’t nice to Layton, but Layton doesn’t give up easily. He mails her when he’s home and they start to mail each other. Charli starts to like Layton, but she’s not sure what to do with those feelings.

I loved Layton. He’s sweet, kind hearted, determined, passionate and caring. Layton loves his job and he’s amazing at it. He loves music. His dog is adorable. Layton was a refreshing male character. He wasn’t slim nor sporty, but that will change a little bit during the book. What I didn’t like, were that Layton’s chapters were focused on his weight at the beginning. I also didn’t like that Charli judged Layton because of his weight. She wasn’t nice at the beginning. I did love how Charli changed. Layton made Charli realize things. She will chase her dreams and she will love Layton just like he is. Charli is sporty, passionate, sassy and creative.

photo cde17ac4f61c5608f95b51bc0bb1e4_zpsybgfh1jf.gif “ This was a true story. I was legitimately addicted to a woman I couldn’t have . . . not to mention she didn’t want me.”

Sometime last year, I read this book called Verite and loved it and so immediately, I had to google up who is this Rachel Blaufeld. And sure enough, my obsession for her books didn’t stop after I fell head over heels in love with her Crossroad Series. I thought nothing could top my love for the Crossroad Series but I was wrong. Rachel Blaufeld has truly outdone herself with her latest release, To See You.

Rachel Blaufeld if you are reading this review. I want to say that I see you. (fyi- not in that stalkerish way..lol) I see how talented you are as an author. I see that you write all your stories full of heart and raw emotions. And I see that you continue to make me a fan of your books. And most importantly, I see that you wrote one of my favorite summer reads of 2016.

#ToSeeYou1

photo cde17ac4f61c5608f95b51bc0bb1e4_zpsybgfh1jf.gif “What was Layton doing to me? I met the guy on a plane in a down time in my life, and despite the fact that I wasn’t nice to him, he pursued me through e-mail. I had to be the dumbest girl in America despite all my academic and business success.”

Do you believe in kismet? Meeting a stranger and knowing that this person could be someone? A friend maybe? Or even a lover? A soul mate? Well To See You by Rachel Blaufeld explores that theme of kismet and meant to be. But what happens when you judge a person based on their appearance? Will you base your judgement on logic or heart? And so Ms. Blaufeld will bring forth a story that weaves kismet, destiny, fate, coincidences or whatever you like to call them into the forefront of how we see strangers.

photo 3282e559250670d93eab3ca124725b_zpsmmee3i10.gif “With him, I could be the socially awkward girl who was way too ahead of herself, but was afraid to admit it.”

Have you ever judge a person by their appearance? I know I have in the past and I am very ashamed of that. And so Ms. Blaufeld will take her readers down a journey where readers will sit back and truly see how hurtful it can be. When Charli Richards boarded on her flight back to New York, she never thought the stranger sitting next to her could be the one. For one, he was not her type. He was big and is everything what her friends and mother would not consider ideal. But for some strange reason, Layton Griffin made her feel normal and special.

photo cde17ac4f61c5608f95b51bc0bb1e4_zpsybgfh1jf.gif “Charli, I’ve wanted to date you since you sat down in seat 2C. Are you not catching on to that? It’s still me, Layton, and I’m still desperately trying to woo you. There may have been dates but there’s been zero wooing. Only hoping for you.”

Charli is not perfect. For one, she is kind of a snob. She judges people and makes assumptions. Simply, she was a bitch in the first half of the book. But for some reason, Layton Griffin didn’t see Charli as that. He saw a woman that he likes and wants to get to know. So when Layton sends her an email, they soon begin to form an online friendship. As much as Charli enjoys getting emails and talking to Layton, she puts a halt to any chance starting a romantic relationship. Charli would remind herself that Layton is not the guy that she should be with.

#ToSeeYou

Being the nice guy, Layton would still email and check up on her. And when he finally started to break down her walls, Charli would once again distance herself and leave Layton hanging. Will Charli finally see Layton? Truly see him not just as a friend but see him as something more?

photo 3282e559250670d93eab3ca124725b_zpsmmee3i10.gif “Girl meets boy and she doesn’t really see him; boy meets girl and she’s all he can see.”

I have so much love for Rachel Blaufeld for writing To See You. Seriously, I love this book so much. Not only was Layton Griffin book husband material but I love the message of this book. I love that Ms. Blaufeld showcased a story that was utterly raw and stripped it’s characters bare allowing readers to see their imperfections, flaws, and vulnerabilities. This book truly took the message to see. To see that we should not judge a person. To see that our imperfections makes us perfect. To see that no one can make you happy unless you learn how to be happy. And most importantly, to see that fate has a funny way of bringing people together. All there is left to say, go fall in love with Rachel Blaufeld’s beautiful and heartfelt prose and see a beautiful love story in the making. To every Charli out there in the world, I hope you will find and see your very own Layton Griffin. In the meantime, Rachel Blaufeld I am claiming Layton all to myself. <3

I really enjoyed To See You.
This was a beautifully written, heartwarming love story that left me full of happy feels.

From the first chapter I found myself drawn in To See You, and not in a good way.
I struggled with the h, Charli. Some of her actions and inner thoughts left me frustrated and angry. I'm going to be honest here, I actually stopped reading and asked myself, how would I have reacted/handled that scenario?
What I found was not what I expected. Here was I making judgments on a character while I've done the same thing. How many times do we judge someone for the way they look, making assumptions and not bothering to give them the time of day to get to know them?
My time out was a good thing, I dived back into the book with an open mind and heart. From not being sure I could finish To See You I ended up staying up all night reading as I couldn't put it down.

The storyline was told in two parts, the first half we get to meet both Charli & Layton. We see what life holds for them both and how other people's expectations can make us live a life we thought we wanted only to find ourselves unfulfilled and yearning for something more.

description

The second half of the book was my fav.
I fell in love with these complex, passionate, funny, sweet and loving characters, especially Layton.
Layton was everything a woman could wish for in a partner. He had a beautiful, forgiving soul that you couldn't help but fall in love with. Sigh...

I also loved the woman Charli turned out to be. Behind all the prejudice and short mindedness was a warm & loving woman.
This was the woman Layton saw from the very start, he always knew she was going to be his... **swoon**

I have come to realize that when I am in need of something out of the ordinary yet still with great writing, I can count on Rachel Blaufeld to deliver. She not only gives her readers different types of romance stories, but also characters that are not the typical guy/girl combinations that are expected in a fictional romance!

To See You is another heartfelt journey that introduces Layton, an imperfect man by society's standards and Charli, a NYC "it" girl. They met by chance on an airplane and found unexpected conversation to flow and affect the both of them. This read has two of the most powerful truths: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the notion that beauty is only skin-deep. Charli and Layton are an enigma as one has a purely good heart and the other everything one would want only with the superficial flash to accompany it. A beauty of heart and a beast of actions perfectly describes Layton and Charli

I really wanted to hate Miss Charli as there is enough beastly actions to have anyone cringe. But at the end of the day, through all her bad decision and blow offs, I felt her struggle and her guilt. I appreciated that she was saddened and that she recognized the ugliness in herself. I especially appreciated her need to be better and to find her own happiness before being worthy of a man so good as Layton. My only complaint would be: *SPOILER* I really didn't want Layton to change...I Found him flawless, and so did Charli. Maybe this "change" made the romance steamy and more sexy but it also made be feel a bit let down that he didn't feel he looked good enough to for her.

Overall, I really liked the story. I loved the imperfect characters. For anyone looking for a fast read with a unique love then this will be fabulous for you!!!

4.5 stars.

Having read the first couple of chapters as a pre-release teaser, to say I was desperate to continue with To See You was a bit of of an understatement. So the moment it released, I was all over it and didn't move from picking it up to finishing.

"...he’s one hundred percent wrong for me."

I'll not lie, you're highly likely to hate hate Charli. Shallow, judgemental and selfish, she's everything I dislike in a person, but perseverance is absolutely the key and as the story unfolds so does the beauty of it; the feelings that both she, Layton and their journey pull out of you are the reason I read.

"I might be chunky and quirky, but I’d had my share of women."

This wasn't the read I expected it to be and Rachel Blaufeld has impressed me by creating a character that people will dislike, and not dampening her down too soon. And this story didn't entirely head in the direction I was expecting; I confess there was a point at which a brief moment of disappointment set in and wondered if she'd sold out on their story, but it quickly passed as I realised, no.

description

I adored Layton for making his choices for him and only him, and for his sheer determination in breaking through Charli's barriers, and I loved her honesty and the fact that she is actually the one whose journey is the bigger of the two.

"Layton had been almost invisible to me back then."

This is a story that will resonate with people, some much more than others but as painful as certain moments are there are far more to make you smile. My first book from Rachel Blaufeld has been a resounding success and she's certainly an author I'll be reading again.

Are you ready for some real honesty? I read this when it first came out and didn't post a review or rating out of respect. Then j forgot to come back to it until now, so here we are. I hated this! So freaking much. I don't often DNF but I'm classifying this as such. I managed to get to 40%, hating life. Then I got to 60% and it still wasn't better. I gave up and skimmed.

The heroine is a horrible person. I couldn't find one thing to like about her. Her friends and mother are just as bad, if not worst. I more so just pitied the hero than anything else.

But yay for character development? Because apparently everyone gets nice and lovey dovey in the end. Cool. Not my story.

Fat shaming is not okay. Being disgusted with someone because they are overweight is not okay. Describing people (or, you know, THE HERO) as looking like a contestant on the Biggest Loser, and laughing about it with your friends is not okay. I have no respect for this heroine.

Thanks but no thanks. I was so excited to read this...

3.5 - 4 Stars!

This was my first book by Rachel Blaufeld and it did not disappoint. To See You has a totally captivating storyline and a VERY lovable hero. The heroine? Not so much! I applaud the author for giving us a very different hero and writing a very realistic and fast-paced story.

I loved the clever structure of this story, and the way the description of Charli and Layton's first meeting and developing relationship unfolds. Layton just grabbed my heart. Charli is a difficult heroine to like, let alone love, but it was refreshing to read about an very imperfect main character.

This is a very heartfelt story, and I don't think I have ever read a book that featured an overweight hero. But Layton is a wonderful person with a huge heart and he really evolves over the course of the story. Their banter is clever and the settings are interesting. I will definitely read more from this author!

5 "...don't sacrifice what you really want." Stars

Rachel Blaufeld's ability to write distinctly unique romance stories constantly and pleasantly surprises me. She takes contemporary romance to different level by circumventing cliche plot tropes and characterizations. Her first person POV writing style always grabs your attention from the very beginning feeling a connection the characters almost immediately, even it's a connection you may not want to admit.

In To See You, Blaufeld takes two career-oriented people, one a stressed out busy body and the other a laid back pleaser, and pitches them together in the unlikely event sparks will fly. It's not a love at first sight story but rather the story of an unassumingly lonely pair who find something each other they're missing in their own lives. Quite unexpectedly hero and heroine, Layton and Charli respectively, aren't what you find in your average romance novel. Layton isn't an uber alpha but he's not quite a beta either. He's a regular man with normal thoughts and proclivities not heightened for effect. Charli's a more typical A-type woman you meet in everyday life. Yet each of them possess traits to make you understand and support them. Judgements are passed unfairly and feelings are hurt yet from the rubble of that comes a lovely friendship.

They way in which Blaufeld demonstrates the development of their relationship makes you feel like you're reading about two normal people rather an unattainable goal or dream relationship. She humanizes her characters to show weaknesses and vulnerabilities as much as strengths or maybe even a little more. The ability to feel and forgive is a big theme in her books and provides this very real, human element especially in To See You.

This book is lovely. The characters as much charming as they are faulted. The prose flows from beginning to end creating an entertaining romance reading experience. Blaufeld's writing style doesn't labor over angst but rather provides it in short blasts making it so simple to get lost in her words. I fell hard for Layton and Charli rooting for them until the end. I loved what they discovered together. To See You is heart-warmingly real stand alone that I urge you to read.

‘I was legitimately addicted to a woman I couldn’t have . . . not to mention she didn’t want me.’

To See You by Rachel Blaufeld is a wonderfully different kind of a story. But that is something Rachel excels at. She seems to be excellent at not only giving you a story you didn’t know you wanted but also making you fall in love with characters you never thought you would love. I fell head over heels in love with Lay, chubby and all.

‘When did Layton become so irresistibly bossy? And when did I start to love it?’

Charli and Layton meet on an airplane and in her new your girl bitchiness she instantly writes him off. He is not fit and she has no time for someone like that. Her job as a fitness editor for on online publication means she is in top shape and she always assumed her partner in life would have the same dedication. The two of them keep up over email and at time it is awkward and hard to read but all of it is necessary Let’s be real here for a second and let me tell you that for a good part of this story Charli has bitchy tendencies and she hurts Lay over and over again. But Lay’s desire and need for her never waivers. I loved him and to be honest I fell for her too. Charli needs to go through it all to understand how she really feels. I came to understand and sympathize with her.

‘To be honest, I was famished for her, I was so fucking starving for this woman.’

I could not put this book down. Layton stole my heart and Rachel had me completely entranced. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to reads something fresh and new. I promise you won’t be let down.

So this book is separated into two parts. Let's dissect my feelings for part 1. Five percent into the book and I didn't like Charli AT ALL! She was an arrogant, self center, thinks-her-shit-don't-stink kind of girl. Typical uptight New York girl that thought she was above 95% of society. She was VERY judgmental. The airplane scene rubbed me the wrong way because that's how the world thinks nowadays. Just because someone is heavy set, society's first reaction is dismissal.

I loved that Layton was a good hearted, caring and friendly character. He was so lovable. He didn't let ugly words get him down. I also liked his confidence.

Part 2
There were some major transformations in part 2 for both Layton and Charli. The major redeeming transformation was in Charli. She changed her whole outlook on everything. Made her see things in a different perspective. I loved that Layton never changed what was inside. He is true book boyfriend worthy. The ending was good. I think it got wrapped up neatly in a nice little bow.

This is the first book I have read by Rachel Blaufeld and I have to say I intend to read more. Her writing is exceptional and as lame as it feels to say, the editing was perfect.

I honestly didn’t want to continue reading this book for most of the first half. I just hated Charli. I couldn’t relate and I really just wanted to see her get hit by a bus and her friends and family were worse. But since it was an ARC I felt committed to finish it and since the writing was so good I was able to struggle through.

Layton was a different story entirely, he was absolutely too good for Charli and I can only assume he put up with her for superficial reasons which doesn’t really sit well either.

Once I got to the second half, the story got a lot better and I was able to lose myself in the romance. Of course Charli pulling her head out of her arse helped and I was able to forget for a while how much I hated her character and just focus on the story.

However despite Charli’s redeeming qualities and Layton’s sweetness I couldn’t get over the first half of the book. Hence the 3 star rating. But I did love the epilogue.

So good and so different!!!! 4.5 Stars!! Provided an ARC for an honest review.

This story is emotional, sweet, and caring in so many ways. It truly is a modern day Beauty and the Beast tale of not judging a book by its cover. Charli and Layton met on a plane, something draws the two together and makes them question their lives they are living. Their struggles are very realistic and relatable. I loved the journey that they both take. I found myself extremely touch and moved by them both, they are written to perfection and I didn't want the story to end.

Review by Jen Hagen

We can all feel Charli’s pain. She is travelling first class on a flight and imagine her horror when her seat companion is so large that he spills over into her seat. Charli is a fitness editor for an online news magazine, and her appearance makes her seem out of reach to Layton – the guy sitting next to her, but yet Layton’s bubbly personality draws Charli out of her reclusive shell into conversation. Charli finds herself drawn into Layton’s voice and words, avoiding using her computer as a distraction during the flight. They both converse easily back and forth, and Layton goes so far as to reach out to her once they go their separate ways.

Charli is very indecisive when it comes to Layton. I would even go so far as to say that Charli is indecisive in all areas of her life. I get the impression she does things that make other people happy. Her mother is constantly on her case about dating the “right” guy. Charli would rather be a writer, but never seems to get the support she needs to hear from her mother, so continues on in her job just to please her mom. She seems to like Layton’s email and text banter, but when they come face to face, she always bails on him. For being a 28-year-old, Charli is very immature when it comes to handling conflict.

None of my attraction to him made sense. It was all a jumbled mess in my brain.

She throws all the wrongs signals out to Layton and really can be a bitch to him. Poor Layton doesn’t know what to do, so he does the only thing that can clear his mind – he walks his dog. All that exercise turns Layton into a toned man. Charli is taken back by the new Layton. Can she convince him that she was wrong and she wants to take a chance with him? Or does that make it sound like she only wants to give him the chance now that he has changed his looks?

I showed up expecting witty Layton, the guy who liked to make me laugh. Instead, I found hot and sexy Layton, who still made me laugh. Of course, he’d been handsome before; I could see beauty beneath the girth. But this? This was unexected.

I am always a fan of the underdog. Poor Layton – he was treated poorly by Charli’s rude behaviors, but yet he never gave up. I was cheering him on every time he made a move. He’s a good, funny guy. This was a quick, light-hearted read; however, I did find it to drag slightly towards the end but the author must have known she need to pull the reader back in because suddenly there’s a little bit of drama. It wasn’t too much to wreck the witty storyline, but was just enough to set the pace for the ending.

Charli and Layton meet when they have to sit next each other on a flight. What could be a super romantic start to this story had me so freaking angry I wanted to quit reading. Charli is judgmental, rude, and juvenile. She immediately judges Layton, which I get is completely human, but then makes him feel badly about himself by her actions - that’s not okay. Obviously these two are very different. Layton is a bigger guy, super easy going and from Los Angeles. Charli is healthy, super uptight and from New York City.

For some reason, I have no idea why, Layton begins pursuing Charli. I honestly have no idea why, throughout most of the story I wanted more for him. I didn’t feel like Charli really deserved his devotion or admiration. Then things change and I thought I could get behind this story and forget everything, but then the new and improved Charli disappointed me again.

Ugh, I hate complaining, I hate feeling like I am beating up a book, but this book just isn’t for me. I hate to even write this review, because I have enjoyed all of Rachel’s books until this one. This one was obviously written very well, but it wasn’t for me. I think so many people will enjoy this book and I think most people can move on. I think most can see beyond the surface with Charli, I wish I could. So while this one wasn’t for me, I know so many of my friends enjoyed it so it may be for you.

I really liked this book. It was kind of a take on Beauty and the Beast but the heroine was the Beast. Charlie was really judgemental when meeting Layton. I imagine him as Chris Pratt before he got rock solid. Layton is a little overweight but he is content with himself. Even though Charli sees him as a slob he makes an impact on her. They meet on a plane and keep in touch but Charli is determined to keep him at arms length even though she is attracted to him. She is kind of stuck on what society thinks instead of thinking for herself. This was a romance but it was also about self discovery for both characters. I really liked how the story progressed. Charli was a bitch but she redeemed herself in my eyes. I liked Layton's transformation but I also liked how in the end he stayed true to himself. I also liked this book because it wasn't the typical story of bad boy, or billionaire or the manwhore hero. Layton was really a good guy and we need more books with heros like him. Overall 3.5 stars

Title: To See You
Author: Rachel Blaufeld
Series: --
Publisher: Self Published
Reviewer: Kathleen
Release Date: June 18th, 2016
Genre(s): Romance
Page Count:227 pages
Heat Level: 3.5 flames out of 5
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Blurb:

Review:
I've been that person before - the one that will think a rude comment about or perceive a person no matter if they might be the nicest, caring, passionate or even could be the perfect best friend (or to the single person, the soul mate) based on a first impression. It doesn't take long to realize just how petty my attitude and reaction is when I plug in those earphones in my ears, turn up the volume of the music and glue my eyes to my book. To realize that Carlie is jut as imperfect, and freely admits to it, was refreshing - the suburban girl who was raised with the manners that were taught by her grandmother to her mother of respect and kindness, but when she makes her way to the big city, their views and way of thinking creeps up on her and wars with her upbringing. Never more does it show when she meets Layton for the first time and even thought the man is funny and kind, Charli has some difficulties getting over his physical appearance and his lack of understanding that she wants to be left alone.

Why did I have to go and give him my name? now he's freaking finding me and acting all nice when I don't deserve it.

Layton is the man that you know has something you can't quite pinpoint - he's the type of man that you either friendzone or have a relationship with. His charisma makes him irresistible, you simply can't help but be captivated by his words and his projects. He once compared himself to Jack Black from the movie 'The Holiday', the unassuming man who creates music for movies, and that's exactly how I saw him, and the same way I kept watching Jack Black, the protective shield of humor and food gave way to confidence and determination and holy cow, let me tell you that Layton took on a whole new different look.

But I wasn't one bit hungry for burgers - not tonight. To be honest, I was famished for her. I was so fu**ing starving for this woman.

To see these changes in both Charlie and Layton right before my eyes was mesmerizing, but to watch them struggle with having to find their own place in their relationship, f there was one to be had in the first place was something that I could only describe as the tug of war that I wished they could be spared of having to go through. However, the rewards were worth all the hurdles these two went through - they learnt so much about themselves, each other, about the meaning of losing what's important to them and appreciating it, and most of all, Charli and Layton know that love is worth fight for.
Rachel Blaufeld was an author I had never had the pleasure to hear about before To See Me, but I can see how she draws in readers to her storylines - from the charisma to the realistic, and even the humor, it's the type of novel that you can easily lose yourself and feel comforted from start to finish.

****ARC RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW****

I didn’t know what to expect while reading To See You. It was the first time I’ve ever read a book by Rachel Blaufeld. The synopsis wasn’t very telling, but it did catch my attention. I had no idea what type of book I was about to read. Once I started reading, I became immersed in the story. So much so, that I did the opposite of what I normally do when I’m enjoying a book. I took my time.

Charli is your typical career orientated, snob. She believes she is on the right track with her life until a chance encounter on a plane with an unexpected stranger changes everything. Layton is definitely not the type of man Charli is attracted, not to sugarcoat his looks, he is fat. Already put off by her seatmate, Charli is determined to ignore him but Layton engages her, reluctantly, in conversation. A simple miscommunication while talking abruptly ends their conversation and Charli knows she’d probably never to see or hear from him again.
One email from Layton after their chance encounter starts an unlikely bi-coastal friendship, with subtle sexual tension between them. They embark on a will they or won’t they situation. Will Charli look past how Layton’s looks and see him for much more or will Layton quiet determination of his pursuit of Charli finally get through all of her self-doubts and open her up to an unexpected love?

I thoroughly adored this story. The ebb and flow between Layton and Charli relationship was so engaging. Initially, I felt like I may really dislike Charli. Just by her bias of Layton with her first look of him. But once you get to know why she is so hesitant to open herself to her feeling for Layton, you can’t help root that she will get it together. And Layton! Oh, I absolute LOVED Layton. He knew there was something about Charli that he couldn’t let go. And he never changed how he acted or felt toward her despite her rejection. And each time that Charli and Layton were together I couldn’t help but hope that they would work out. The writing style was beautiful and the message delivered was simplistic and so real. There’s always more than what meets the eyes. And in one moment an unexpected encounter can change your whole life.

Rachel always knows how to deliver an intriguing and sweet read. And I love that she never makes at least one of the characters an every day person - they aren't all hot, sexy, buff or drop-dead gorgeous. It makes the book feel more real.

What I enjoyed most about this book was the underlying meaning behind this book - appearances aren't everything. Never judge a book by its cover. Always be you - not who someone wants you to be.

Charli is living the life she thought she worked hard for all her life. She finished high school at 16 and was ahead of everyone in her college classes. She worked her way up quickly at a trendy site and is now the fitness editor. So she has to play the roll right. She's a NYC snob.

Layton is the man behind the music in the film industry. He helps set the soundtracks we all love in movies. Most of his time is spent watching all sorts of movies and adding music to them. He's funny, easy going and beyond nice with a more rounder physique than he'd like but he's happy.

The end up seated next to each other on a plane. Charli is being her typical standoffish self and snubs her nose at him. Lay is extremely sweet and attempts to chat her up. Somehow he's able to break down her façade and get her to talk. He makes her question who she has become.

I love how Rachel let this whole thing play out. It's not immediate, it's not all roses and sunshine. They live on opposite coasts but that's not what keeps them apart. The inner dialogue is very funny at times and will have you wanting to slap one character and then wanting to kick other in the ass. There were times where I felt their reactions seemed a little juvenile since they are in they are both in their late 20's/early 30's which is what caused the book to not get 5 stars from me.

Overall, I loved the characters interactions, both main and secondary. The secondary characters added to the story and helped give you a better understanding to certain things. It's a great story that will have you keeping yourself in check next time you want to judge someone immediately.

“Life isn’t like an editing job where all the t’s have to be crossed or the i’s dotted. It’s like a mix tape, a compilation of all the biggest hits, some slow and others fast. Some songs aren’t your favorite, but mixed with others they make a great album. It’s all about the placement.”

To See You is my first book by this author and overall, I thought it was an ok read. When I first heard about this book, I was super excited to read it. It sounded like a great opposites attract type read. I adored Layton upon the first meeting. He was funny and a super sweet guy. He knew that Charli was out of his league and would never go for a guy like him, but that didn’t stop him from trying to get the girl.

I really, really wanted to like Charli, but honestly, I had a hard time connecting to her. In my opinion, she was mean and a total snob. I don’t see any reason why Layton would like her or would want to pursue anything with her. I kept waiting for a redeeming moment for her, and I honestly never found one. Even as the story progressed, and life brought Layton and Charli together again, I still wasn’t a fan. It felt like Charli was still very superficial and only liked Layton once he made changes to his appearance.

Overall, To See You was an ok read. I found the story to be interesting and the story-line was definitely unique. I adored Layton. You couldn’t help but find yourself rooting for him to get a HEA. Charli was not an easy character. She had some enjoyable moments, but others where I just wanted to knock some sense into her. To See You frustrated me, made me laugh at times and did have some sweet romantic moments. To See You is definitely one of those books that isn’t going to be for everyone. It’s one of those that you’re either going to love or that you’re going to hate. For me, even though it wasn’t a 100% hit for me, I’m still really glad to have checked it out.

This was definitely a unique novel. This is the first time I've encountered a BBW hero, and a self-aware bitch, but she apparently wants to change that.

Layton has to be one of my most favorite heroes of all time. He's definitely my dream man, which was why I was Team Layton all the way. But that doesn't mean that I didn't feel for Charli. My heart hurt so bad for Charli whenever she would feel bad herself.

The writing was so effective that the change within Charli throughout the book was evident and I loved that. I also loved that Layton changed physically, but not mentally. He's still the same funny, kind, and forgiving Layton that we all know, but more ripped and handsome.

The dilemma Charli faced after discovering Layton's change was tough. She didn't know how to express to Layton that she liked the Layton he was before he physically changed. She had to convey that him physically changing didn't change a thing about what she felt for him. And seeing her struggle through that just tugged at my heartstrings.

One frustrating thing about the novel was Charli's mom. She just wouldn't let Garrett go. I mean if she loved Garrett that much, why doesn't she date him? I never got the logic behind forcing your child to date someone, especially if they're not willing to. It just makes me plain mad.

But aside from that, I loved the novel. Layton and Charli are such goals. I also loved the freaking ending. I couldn't have imagined an ending better than what Rachel did. This book comes highly recommended from me. :)

I adore a chance meeting story. To See You is something different from Rachel Blaufeld and beautifully unexpected. It's a refreshing romance read with two wonderfully well developed characters in both Layton and Charli, who I LOVED. Yep, I said it. Why? Because we have all met a girl like her -- we know this woman.

Sweet Layton is not your typical Alpha romance hero but one that will have you blissfully smiling. Besides being persistent, he possesses those admirable qualities readers will adore - charm and humor.

Charli and Layton both had cool jobs too - I love getting lost in a character's story when their profession is interesting. {I know I kind of nerd out for things like that.}

What Blaufeld does so well is create little moments of happiness and keeps those intimate details woven throughout the entire story. Those enduring intimate details humanize the characters making them relatable and unforgettable.

Get ready to melt into a gooey mess. One of my favorite quotes:

"And her smile... that smile could light up Manhattan. I didn't want to share it though. I wanted all of her grins, each and every one. I would stuff her giggles in my pocket for a rainy day." ~Layton Griffin.

Too See You is a heartfelt and inspiring story with complex characters. It's a must read!
