Disappointed
Because I liked "Carnal Deceptions" I thought I'd like this book by the same writer. However, I just didn't feel invested in Lacey. She just came off as flakey & self absorbed most of the time. Just when I thought she had matured a little, she would revert back to being just plain foolish. Who would ask to dance with someone who had already been identified as a horse thief & liar by several people including Slade, who was busting his butt trying to fix the ranch? Lacey. Who would refuse to talk honestly with Slade when he shows his feelings? Lacey. I actually was hoping some other woman would win his heart! Slade had some attractive qualities, but, I got tired of how often Slade would tolerate her b.s. Finally, I realized her physical beauty just kept him hanging on.
By the end of the book, I honestly didn't care if they were together. Another thing was the introduction of the minor characters. I had to fill in the dots as to Dora's relationship to the family. It was a chore to finish the book. Sorry.
