Jake:
I can’t believe my coach assigned me a tutor. I’m all that on the field and between the sheets — who cares about my stupid grades?

But Claire doesn’t treat me like I’m dumb. When we’re not busy fighting, she actually encourages me. And with those sexy curves of hers, I know just how to thank her.

Claire:
I hate football players, but I need the money. Jake is just as cocky and arrogant as the worst of them … but his touch sets me on fire.

I have to believe he’s different, that he won’t use me and break my heart. Because I can’t stop wanting him. I just hope I survive the ride.

ARC kindly offered by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I've made no mystery of my love for the ol' trope: Jock-Nerdy/Tutor girl. This book totally fit the description. It was a light read that delivered exactly what you would expect from the blurb.

Even though it doesn't compare to the Hashtag series by Hebert or After Math by Swank (absolute favs of mine), I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not re-read material, but to spend a day in the world of a mousy girl who finds her forever with the hot jock, it was rather perfect.

There were some things I didn't appreciate, like the judgmental attitude of almost every character, how he only noticed her after she did a complete make-over and Jake's waiting too long to clear things up with her (he's a good groveler, though), but overall I'd label this book one of my guilty-pleasures.

"I wish you would give me the chance to be the man you need me to be, though. I know I can. I know he’s in there. It just took him a minute to find his way out. But he’s there.”

The style was fine. Nothing too elaborated, but the banter was there as one would expect in this kind of books. They're both stubborn characters and it showed in their interactions, always bordering the fights. I liked it.

I would definitely recommend it :)

Draw Play by Tia Lewis Draw Play

Book can be read as a standalone.

description

Draw Play had A+ potential as a sweet, low-angst college sports romance where the hot jock meets the nerdy, book-geek girl and they fall in love throughout a series of tutoring sessions, buuuuttt...

"You have this way of making things sound like insults, even when you don't mean them as insults."

Even though I was smitten with the sexy scenes (Jake sure knows how to play *wink wink*), all the characters were a bit too judgemental and negative for me to enjoy the story as much as I could have—and I really think that impacted the way I perceived Jake and Claire's relationship, because while I loved Jake's change from frat-footballer-party-boy to Mr. Hot-and-Responsible, I didn't feel his and Claire's connection as much as I wanted due to all the F- stereotyping and unresolved emotions between the characters.

“You needed me to defend you and protect you. I didn’t. I failed you. I don’t blame you for pushing me away because I failed. I’m sorry for that. You don’t know how sorry I am, Claire.”

All in all, though, if I were a scout, I'd be watching Tia Lewis, because she's got potential—and I don't know what she'll throw out next, but I'm interested to see how she'll develop as an author in her following books because, well, I'll just toss you all this:

"We whispered fiercely back and forth, leaning toward each other from opposite sides of the table. Her face was flushed, her chest rising and falling. I wanted to fuck her brains out."

A good college romance,

predictable, Jock meets Geek story told in dual pov's.

I liked both characters Jake wasn't the stereotypical Jock and he just had to prove that to Claire.

I felt it ended sudden but had a good conclusion to Jake and Claire's story the rest how they go from there, if Jake makes the big league's? I suppose is down to the imagination.

An enjoyable college read, hot with no major angst or drama, well written I liked it.

Wow, this was so cheesy and unoriginal.

Let's sum up all romance clichés and see how many of those we can find in this book:
-> main heroine is a plain, ordinary, not too thin nor too pretty girl, who loves wearing baggy, unappealing clothes - CHECK ✔
-> main heroine is nerdy girl who loves to study - CHECK ✔
-> main heroine is surrounded by other nerdy people (because nerdy girl just CAN'T have different friends, right?) - CHECK ✔
-> main heroine is emotionally unstable and lacks self confidence - CHECK ✔
-> main hero is athlete - CHECK ✔
-> main hero is failing his classes, so he needs tutoring - CHECK ✔
-> main hero seems like a dumb jock, but of course, deep inside, he is totally different than other guys - CHECK ✔
-> there are bullies - CHECK ✔
-> SHE and HE fall for each other, but try to fight it - CHECK ✔
-> there is a stupid misunderstanding - CHECK ✔

The only thing this book was "missing" was love triangle. So, yeah. It wasn't really poorly written (it actually read quite nicely) or anything, it was just your basic NA romance 101. Nothing original, nothing out of the ordinary. And Claire got on my nerves BIG TIME. She was so moody, needy and I wanted to smack her head against the wall more than once. But hey, so it doesn't look like I totally hated it - I really liked Jake.

3 not quite satisfied stars. Okay, I'm a sports lover and have an affinity to sports men. Over 75 percent of my ex-boyfriends were athletes. It's a weakness that I own up to. I went into this thinking I would really enjoy it if it was pulled off but it fell a bit flat. If there had been unexpected twists and turns and more fleshed out characters, the story would have sacked me. Having said that, this wasn't a bad read, it just didn't make me feel. It was emotional for me so it was just something pleasant to read. I'm sure people who like it all to flow easily will enjoy this. Sadly, it was just okay for me.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Jake Jennings, star college
Typical storyline: Star football player with panties thrown at him from every direction, campus man-whore living the life gets stuck with brainic honors student who despises jocks as the tutor to help him improve his grades.

I’m going to admit, I was really worried when I started this book because I didn’t like either of the characters. Jake and the talk about his conquests and how easy it was to get a girl and get laid and Claire with her judgmental attitude; ugh, how was I going to get through this book? Somehow I got through it and you know what? I really liked it! My attitude towards Jake changed but Claire, oh…I didn’t like her in the beginning and I didn’t like her by the end of the book either.

When did I first start to dislike her? When her advisor informed her of whom she would be tutoring.
“Hmm? Let’s see. Oh! He’s an English major.” I did my best to keep from rolling my eyes. Talk about taking the easy way out—just a bunch of reading and writing. And he couldn’t pass?
Yep, I was totally offended or put-off by her statement (could have a little something to do with the fact that I was and English Major); Easy my ass….screw you Claire. Then it just got worse.

All semester with a football player who had a brain the size of a mouse. Just my luck. No wonder they were willing to pay so much for me to do it…. “Which classes is he taking this semester?” She slid a paper across the desk so I could get an idea. One of them was Intro to Theatre. I could almost hear the universe laughing at me. I was impressed with the rest of the selection, though. Shakespeare, Nineteenth Century Literature, French Literature, Sociology. Not bad.

Insert eye-roll. Oh, why thank you Queen Claire for being impressed.

So these two don’t get off to the best start when they meet each other because they both have these preconceived notions about the other; but I was curious as to how things would play out so I forged ahead hoping for the best.

I started to realize, Jake wasn’t at all what I thought he was. He didn’t really fit the mold of a “typical jock” that you read about. He was actually a bit of a worry wart.

couldn’t help worrying about that, even as I waved at people. What would happen if I fucked it all up and failed, even with a tutor? What if the tutor was a piece of shit who only wanted to get credit or money, or whatever they were in it for? What then? What if I didn’t have it in me to do well? My classes were getting harder, and the pressure wouldn’t help my confidence.

Wow, didn’t see that coming. This guy was almost obsessive in his thoughts. He was constantly asking himself “what if”. At times it kind of had me thinking to myself…”who’s the man and who’s the woman?”. I know, how dare I, considering how much I dislike Claire for being judgmental, but unfortunate for you and lucky for me….we aren’t talking about me, we’re talking about Clair ☺.
But ultimate statement that sealed Claire’s fate with me was when Jake explained why he hid his love of reading.

“Pretty much and I used to have to hide my reading at home when I was a kid.” That stopped me cold. “You what?” He looked flushed, his tanned skin turning a shade of red I’d never seen him wear. “Forget it. Let’s get back to work.” “It’s okay. Really. I think it’s a shame that you had to do that. I just can’t relate, so it surprised me.” My reading was all but forgotten as I turned my attention to him. I leaned my head on my hand. “What happened?” He pursed his lips like he was considering whether or not to tell me. After a deep breath, he said, “My mom thought all my time should go to football. I mean all of it. If I wasn’t practicing, I should be training. If I wasn’t training, I should be watching it. Reading wasn’t going to get me anywhere.” I did my best to suppress my look of horror. It was unimaginable. Reading wouldn’t get him anywhere? Where the hell did he grow up? A ghetto? Then I realized it was entirely possible that he had. “I’m sorry,” I said. “That’s awful.” “I had to read for school, too. You know? I didn’t want to fail. So I would read in bed, under the covers, with the flashlight.

Really Claire, a ghetto (insert picture of me with arms crossed, pissed off look on my face as I tap my foot) seriously? So what, people who grow up in ghettos don’t read? They don’t think it’s important? Uh, he said his mom didn’t encourage it. He didn’t say it wasn’t taught. Here’s a newsflash for you girly….there are kids who grow up in very affluent neighborhoods where sports is pushed more than academics. UGH, this woman!!! Even as the story progressed and she started to see Jake in a different light and wanted to defend his character to one of her friends. She still managed to appear to look down her nose at other people. This is not to say that Jake was totally blameless in his stereotypes. While Claire over thought everyone’s motives, Jake’s insecurities had him over thinking what people thought of him. So much so that he handles quite a few situations like a real jerk, but at the same time, he immediately felt bad and set out to fix things (in his own weird way). This man’s internal dialogue was a constant Ping-Pong match in his head.
And after he and Claire slept together for the first time…

I was like OMG, dude turn it off already! But he was also so adorable with his obsessiveness.

Okay, so as I mentioned I was not a fan of Claire, this woman had me putting the book down and stepping away quite a few times. What I will give Claire is that she realized pretty quickly that Jake was more than just a dumb jock looking to get an easy A. In her own crazy way she encouraged him and gave him motivation. There were times when she stood up for Jake and put people in their places but it wasn’t enough to make me like her. I disliked her so much I was ready to give the book two stars and call it a day; but then I stopped and thought for a moment. It wasn’t the book I didn’t like. It was Claire, so for a character to make me have such a visceral response to them…a response that had nothing to do with the storyline or the writing means it was a pretty darned good book, so four stars it is! There’s actually a lot more I could say about this book but I think it would be best to let you discover it on your own.

2.5/5 stars.

Funnily enough, I saw this book on Netgalley and, when I went to request, it was no longer available. Then, less than a week later, I see it on Amazon for free. So, I grabbed it, thinking I’d love it. I wanted to, but I just didn’t.

And, while I was on a sort of football-romance binge, I picked this up. It disappointed me… so much. None of the football romance books I read were stellar but this had to be the worse, unfortunately.

This review is going to be short. I love to talk but really, I don’t have much to say about this book.

The major problem with this book was the crappy attitudes of the characters. They were so judgemental, so pass-remarkable. It was so awfully annoying that I almost DNF’d the book. I NEVER DNF a romance books. Especially not a sports-romance book. I do love those. It was hard to like and sympathise with this characters when they were just so disgusting.

It was dual-POV and in one of Claire’s parts she thought: “What was he trying to do? Butter me up so I wouldn’t give his coach a negative report? I would have bet anything. Telling me his sob story about how he wasn’t allowed to read when he was a kid.”

And, Claire really thought something of herself. She had some mysterious reason as to why she did not like football players and, yeah, I sort of felt bad for her but the asshole that had hurt her just happened to be a football player. It wasn’t because he was a football player that made him decide to hurt her. She thought that all football players were assholes and they all wanted to do the exact same thing to her as the first asshole did.

Jake: “It [the cashier’s smile] matched her oversized body.”

The worst person in this book was one of Claire’s friends. He was bitter towards football players because his Dad wanted him to be one but he didn’t himself. Now, I understand that he was made an asshole for a reason. What I didn’t understand was the reason why Claire was friends with him. That didn’t make sense at all.

For example, here’s something he said to their group: “They’re only eating all that food so they’ll have the energy to rape a girl later.” Now, they did call him out on it but still, this was his usual attitude.

They all really just needed to get their heads out of their asses. Sure, some of the football players were idiots but they were ignorant idiots. All of Claire’s friends were smart and pricks on purpose. (Well, not all of her friends.)

These characters were also so stereotypical. They were both so unoriginal. Claire wore baggy clothes that “didn’t accentuate any of her curve”, had brown mousy hair (I don’t even know what that means), wore glasses, studied all of the time, got straight-As, didn’t party… And Jake. He was a tall, muscular football player with a bad past and above all, he was an arrogant, self-righteous prick. I appreciate originality. Claire even had a stereotypical short best friend.

Thinking back on it now, I have no idea why I originally gave this 2.75/5. I’m a sucker for romance but even I have my limit. There have been 3 star reads so much better than this. This sucked balls. (I apologise for how explicit it seems my language has turned. Would you believe me if I said I didn’t curse?)

Even though I disliked the characters, I wanted to see where to romance was going. I shouldn’t have wasted my time. I’m glad it was free.

Tia Lewis is a new to me author and I thought this book had a lot of potential but it just didn't have that unique wow factor that I was looking for. For me, this was just another sports romance albeit one I enjoyed.

Draw Play follows football center, Jake Jennings, whose football coach has assigned him a tutor, "Plain Jane" Claire. Everyone on campus knows Jake, except for Claire. Claire absolutely detests football players ever since an incident in high school. And smart curvy girls aren't exactly Jake's type. When sparks fly, will a relationship really work between them? Do opposites really attract?

I didn't connect with the characters all that much and they weren't very developed. Claire comes across as kind of sheltered and almost juvenile which was kind of a surprise since she is in the pre law program at school and Jake wasn't much better with his whining about needing a tutor. The romance in this book started off on shaky ground. One day while they are studying in Claire's dorm room, Jake suddenly kisses Claire(who hates football players) out of the blue and then suddenly there is a random sex scene with absolutely no spark or build-up. It's like the author wanted to spice things up a little so she threw in forced a sex scene. There was absolutely no chemistry between them although the sex scenes did get better and hotter after that first ackward one. Every single character in this book was so judgmental which I hated. Claire and her friends hated football players and were always talking bad about them and Jake and his friends did the same with Claire and her friends. I don't understand how a relationship even developed between these two although the second half of the book was much better than the beginning. The last thing that really bugged me was the ending. The ending seemed really rushed and I felt like there could have been more. Although this book wasn't exactly the book for me, I wish the author well in her future writing endeavors.

Pretty much what I expected -- nothing new in your standard campus hottie football player who needs a little help keeping it up (the grade point average)! Of course, there's the smart nerdy girl, who's not his usual tall, rail thin sorority girl, who tutors him along with rocking his world and, after some angst-filled challenges, you know they'll get that happily-ever-after -- along with the "W" in the Win Column for the championship.

Characters grated on my nerves a bit with their individual whines -- but they both deserved to find some happiness so I forgave them both. This is the first book in this series and one of the other hottie players gets his story next. I'm not sure I'm ready for another game with this group.

I don't know how I feel about this book.
Jake was a whiny kid at first when the coach put him with a tutor, he didn't sound like he was in college. Jake is a jock he loves his football and doesn't mind being a dumb jock but until now everyone is pointing it out he was to be serious and show he isn't what people think. Claire is a nerdy girl and always studying, when she helps Jake learn to study and do it on his own she feels proud of him. Even if her friends think she shouldn't do this because he is a jock who always gets what he wants she still keeps working with him. Soon Jake and Claire start to see each other romantically and things go good to bad, but in the end Jake decides to fight for her.

As you know I'm not a sports fan romance! But this book was so good, I couldn't put it down

Jake is a football player and he didn't do so well on his finals, so his coach decided to get him a tutor to help with his studies and keep him accountable.
Claire was just told that her job was overbooked and they have assigned her as a tutor. And to top it all off a tutor to a football player, not her dream job at all. And with her pre-law course it's not like she had all the time in the world. But mostly she did NOT LIKE FOOTBALL PLAYERS

But when she meets Jake, he is so much more than what she expected

But Claire had a bad experience with a football player in high school, so will she be able to overcome her fears with Jake or will she ruin something great before it even started.

I loved this story, everything about Jake and Claire worked so well together. Their chemistry, their banter.

I loved both characters and couldn't stop reading from the minute I started until the book ended! And When I finished this was my feeling

Awesome debut novel Tia Lewis. And I'm waiting for the next one

Jake starts out as a real tool. He has an ego that could fill the stadium. Honestly, I didn't even want to like him. Then Claire was assigned to tutor him and he immediately became less annoying. I liked the guy in spite of myself. I loved Claire. She was awesome. She was pre-law and didn't take anything from Jake or anyone. I loved that his coach cared enough about him to reach out to Claire and arrange his tutoring. He knew the kid had more in him than he was giving. Jake knew that studying in the frat house was out of the question, so the library became their refuge. He learned how to study and really came about with his grades and the effort he put forth. He was so much more than football and a stud (thank God!). I like the changes we see in both main characters, even though they were both strong to begin with.

I enjoyed this story so much I would have liked to read a longer epilogue because I'm greedy and I didn't want to leave these characters.

Claire and Jake, our main characters, are really different from each other, a nerd girl the first and a jock the second, but sometimes looks can be deceiving and there is a lot more worth to know about a person than what you can see at the first sight.
I've really appreciated to see how their relationship developped. I loved their bantering and their sexual chemistry.

The plot was nothing new or surprising but Tia Lewis with her writing was able to catch my attention since the beginning and page after page I grew attached to these characters and their journey.

This is a debut novel by this author and I have to say it was very well written. The characters were very interesting and their chemistry was hot!!! The background of a jock falling for a nerd is common however, authir gives us new dimensions to their story. Jake is a player but still works hard and loves to study. Claire is the nerd but wants to let go and be free. She's a badass due to her past experiences as well. Its hot, steamy romance with a heart.

This is a debut by Tia written about a sexy football romance. Jake is a cocky football player who lives in a frat house. He party's hard and all he thinks about is the game and off pitch booze, and which girl he can score with. His grades are suffering and his coach appoints him a tutor as he is an English major. On the cusp of failing means he wouldn't be able to continue with his football career.

Claire is a pre-law student and an over achiever who needs to make ends meet while she's studying. When she is appointed tutor to Jake, it’s a godsend. Making enough money to get her through the semester is going to alleviate her financial situation. However, she has just one issue. She hates football players. Claire encourages Jake and doesn't treat him like he’s stupid. The two of them are polar opposites and I quite honestly wondered if the dynamics would work. Saying that, it was clear to see a hidden attraction simmering beneath the surface.

I saw the characters develop as they discover more of each other than they first thought, and an undeniable attraction flowers. They show another side to themselves which isn’t often show to their friends. Seeing them both grow closer to one another, I also learnt that they both have side issues. The author explored the hang-ups Claire has about herself being a curvaceous young lady where in a sports novel of this type, it is expected that girls are stick thin. Claire’s confidence is lacking in this area and we see her channel the advice from her friend to be proud of her curves, wear pretty clothes and show them off. Jake hides the fact that he comes from a one parent family and has grown up in poverty. It’s a softer sad side to him and I liked how it’s shown he is actually a very bright young man.

This story is passionate and full of extremely hot moments; especially one in particular. I was slightly shocked as it seemed quite out of the ordinary for Claire, but this demonstrated how Jake brought out her personality. I loved their banter. In fact, it was quite entertaining listening to them while they were studying. Don't be fooled into thinking this is all happy and hearts and flowers. Obstacles are in the way, and you’ll have to wait and see if Jake and Claire can overcome their personal problems.

"Hamlet is a great play," " I know you'll love it" "I can’t wait to talk about it with you."
"Is there anything you haven't read?" "I thought you were a pre-law student"

I must sum up by saying that at the beginning, I thought the storyline was a tad like something I had read before. Nonetheless, I pressed on and saw how a series of events unravelled and eventually became engrossed in the book. I would have liked a bit more depth and backstory to the characters, although I did feel the author did do justice in relaying to the reader what sort of people they were. For a debut, it was a very good offering and I enjoyed reading about Claire and Jake. I'm hoping the author will revisit them as I’d like to see how they progress as a couple and how their future moulds.

I love a good sport romance and when read the blurb for Lewis’s debut I was immediately intrigued . As whilst the book is a cliché in a nut shell, the way that the author painted a picture with the blurb made want to give this book a go and I wasn’t disappointed. Told in dual perspectives, we are told the story of Jake the footballer player and Claire the girl who is assigned to be his tutor who rather be studying in the library. However their paths clashed when Jake is assigned a tutor and forced to rethink his whole entire life.
As Jake is the typical arrogant footballer player, thinking that he is all that on the field and off the field. He has no trouble with the ladies and got a GPA that allows him to play football. Life should be good. Well his Coach has other ideas ad hence the story is born as, Coach think just barely maintain the grade to play isn’t good enough .
Enter Claire, a pre law student who got a massive chip on her shoulder and doesn’t make any allowances for him being a football player. She rubs him wrong way the moment that he meets her. She doesn’t make any allowances, she wants him to succeed , only if he could see past the snarkines that he brings out when they are together .
However there something deeper at play and that were the story gets interesting and doesn’t become just another jock/nerd romance. It turns in a story of discovering and more and Lewis elevates it from two people who are forced to work together into something special.
It a sweet yet sexy sport romance and quick read but jam packed considering all things. I was intrigued at the start by the end I was hooked and wondering whether there would be more stories set at this campus as there was a lot going on.
Lewis debut delivered what readers want in a sport romance. Characters that you can fall in love with endearing stories that make them stand out from the cookie cutter and I can’t wait what this author has in store for the future

I really love a good sport romance with an opposite attracts, but at first can’t stand each other. I was excited to read this book. Sometimes even though they don’t like each other in the beginning in the end, they really do have more in common than they think.
“You don’t get it do you? I’ve been beating my brains out, trying to make you see how smart and valuable you are. You’re not just another stupid jock, but that’s all you allow yourself to be. I don’t know who messed you up, but somebody did, and they did a good job.”
Jake was a football player who loved to party and neglected his studies to the point, that it was going to affect his position on the team. Claire was just going to school to become a lawyer who just the average girl, with somewhat chip on her shoulders to athletes. I loved these two together the chemistry was off the chart, when they finally decided to give in to each other. In this book you get the drama that comes along with a college, but also a very good storyline with some really good sexy scenes. I’m not going to lie, I did cry a little with Claire but then at times, I got frustrated with her. For Jake he was just trying to make it through, but at times you wanted hit him to wake him up.
“You needed me to defend you and protect you. I didn’t. I failed you. I don’t blame you for pushing me away because I failed. I’m sorry for that. You don’t know how sorry I am, Claire.”
Overall this book had everything; I was love in a book. I can say that, I will be reading this again. This author is new to me, I can say she did a really good job writing this book. Go give this book a chance and one click it right now, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

"I smiled, too. She had such a pure, simple way of enjoying what I did to her. She wasn't porn-y. She didn't try to pretend to be in the throes of passion the minute I slid into her. She went with me, letting me fk her. She just enjoyed it."

5 football stars!! Sinfully sexy!

Jake is a football player, but he's failing his classes and that a no-no in the football world. His coach assigns him a tutor. Claire can't stand football players, but she's short on cash and figures why not. And while she hates football players she treats him as an equal and refuses to let him think he's just another dumb jock. And well she can't deny the attraction she feels for him. Can she trust him with her heart??

Definitely a super cute book! I loved Jake and all his cockiness, but I loved that he also had a heart. I really fell for Claire, even though she hates football players, she never makes him look like an idiot, which I found refreshing. Overall the book was super enjoyable and well Jake, ugh, Jake... you'll understand when you start reading!

3 stars***

Jake

I can’t believe my coach assigned me a tutor. I dominate the field and between the sheets—who cares about grades?

But Claire doesn’t treat me like I’m stupid. When we’re not busy arguing like idiots, she actually encourages me. Something no other woman had done before. And with those sexy curves of hers, I know just how to thank her. And thank her thoroughly.

Claire
I hate football players, but I need the money. Jake is just as cocky and arrogant as the worst of them … but his touch sets me on fire.

I have to believe he’s different, that he won’t use me and break my heart. Because I can’t stop wanting him. I just hope I survive the ride.

I usually love sports romances. I like the whole falling in love on a playing field or the nerdy geek getting with the muscly hot jock. This time it was a meh moment. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it.

There were some elements that I liked. I liked the heat between Claire and Jake. The sex scenes were hot. The chemistry was there and I liked the drama.

I didn't like that it felt childish at times, yes I know they're in college but they just seemed childish in how they talked to each other. The story was a little monotonous and I would have liked to have more of the football element thrown in and the secondary characters have more of a role.

Would I recommend this book. Yes as light reading. It was a sweet book but it didn't have that oomph for me personally.

Happy Reading :-)

I was kindly gifted this book by NetGalley and the publisher in an exchange for an honest review.

I literally devoured Draw Play in a couple of hours, once I started I couldn´t put it down. This is the first book I´ve read by Tia Lewis and I am impressed. At first I thought the book was going to be the typical sports love romance: Hot athlete needs tutoring from a girl. I am not complaining since I usually love those kind of books.

In my opinion the story had the perfect length, neither too short nor too long. I had plenty of time to savor the characters and the story line but at the same time I didn’t have to stay up all night to read it which is a plus. The characters are not the stereotyped alpha guy or head- over -heels girl which was a nice change for a chance. The characters felt so real to me through every passing chapter that I didn´t want to let them go. The development of the plot was believable and powerful. The underlined message of this story is one that every woman and girl out there should listen: do not let your bad moments dictate your future, let them guide you to become a better you. Both Jake and Claire showed me that, their story inspired me to face this new semester of college with a new positive perspective.

I can say without hesitation that Tia Lewis has gained a new fan and I so can´t wait to see what she writes in the future since I am sure it will be utterly worth it.

Jake's a star football player, only caring about sex and football. Claire's A student whose work study program is critical for her survival and her scholarship. When Jake's coach sees Jake's grades plummeting he insists on a tutor... and of course it's Claire who needs a job since work study fell through. Claire hates football and football players; he doesn't think too highly of nerds either. But there's a fine line between love and hate.

I liked seeing their relationship progress and their maturity levels improve over time. Some nitzy things turned into big things for me:

-- The likelihood that a division I football player at Michigan is in a fraternity is very low.... so all the mentions of him living in a frat house were weird. In all likelihood, given that he lived with the other players, he lived in an off campus house rather than a frat house, despite the parties and despite the numerous mentions of the frat house. There was nothing about fraternities in this, only jocks.

-- The very quick wrap up in the last 2-3 chapters/epilogue. While it's great that they made up, it was the day before break. What happened? Did they part? Did they meet each other's parents?

It's great about the draft, but what about law school for her?? That annoyed me!

I received a review copy from Give me books in exchange for a honest review.
4* read.
This was a difficult book to rate for me as I loved the story but the writing for me was a bit lacking in places. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying there was anything wrong with the writing style I just feel like the more this author writes the easier it will flow but for a debut novel it is one of the highest I've rated for awhile.
I love nothing more then a college romance mixed with sports and a nerd who falls for the jock. Its one of my favourite genres to read. Jake and Claire are both characters you can instantly relate and connect with. Claire is hired to tutor Jake who needs to keep his grades high in order to still play. Problem is Claire has a bad past concerning jocks and so is instantly off with Jake. I loved their banter and chemistry and watching their relationship developing. Claire although has been through some really hard times she came across as a really strong and feisty woman and I loved how she stood up for herself.
I cant wait for more from this author and seeing how their writing style develops, great debut novel.
