Turning Back

Rate this book
I lived in the dark for three years. My whole world revolved around the whims and happiness of three men. It was just a trip into the forbidden. A way out of a bad situation and forward into nothingness.

Quin, with his easy smile and charming good looks. He was always there for me... Until he wasn’t.

Smith, and his dispassionate attention. He was never there for me and he never regretted it.

Bric, the one who listened, but only to himself. Self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-serving. He was never the one I wanted.

And now he might be the only one I have left.

It was good while it lasted, I guess. But it could’ve been so much more. It could’ve been so much better.

And that’s why I’m turning back.

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

Fuck. Where do I even begin?

Turning Back is book two in the Turning Series that focuses on Bric, Quin and the return of Rochelle. We learned about how the game is played in Taking Turns, we learned of Rochelle and her leaving the game suddenly, but we don’t get any answers to what provoked her to leave – until now.

I need to talk about Smith for a second because although this was not HIS story, he played such a great role in this book. I loved his humor, I loved that you could see just how carefree this man became after Chella entered his world. Every time he stepped onto the page, I got giddy.

Now let’s get to the meat of this story, the throbbing meat... Bric and Quin. For fucks sake. I thought my kindle was going to catch on fire with the amount of sizzle these two had. Toss in a very willing player, Rochelle and the chemistry was off the charts. These two men moved like a well-oiled machine. Years of playing this game, years of knowing their bodies and how the other’s moved. It was all evident as they took and took and took and took...

Rochelle’s hasty exit lead Quin to lose his trust in her. His love is still there, but fear has turned this sweet man into something that causes Rochelle to wonder if turning back was the right thing to do. As she settles back into a new game with new rules, oh yeah and with a baby to boot – Rochelle starts to form a bond with Bric that hadn’t existed in the first game they played.

For JA Huss fans, you know that you get a hot story and then you get taken on the ride of your life in the last 20% of the story. YOU know that until that moment, YOU KNOW NOTHING about what is going to happen. But that doesn’t stop your mind from spinning all types of what ifs throughout the story. I however did not SEE THAT COMING. By the time I reached the end, I think my mouth was just hanging open. I was intrigued by this character in book one and I feel like once we get more about him, everything we thought we knew is going to change. He is a game changer.

Now the sex. Fuck. The sex. This is not a book you read in public. Unless you have a fetish for masturbating in public places. #NoJudgement But I recommend only reading this after you’ve done some finger stretches, stocked up on batteries and locked the kids (or if you’re a dog mom like me, the dogs) in the closet for a few hours. Oh, and stay hydrated, you’re going to lose a lot of fluid during this read so you might want to grab a towel to sit on or say fuck it and just toss on an adult diaper – it’s going to be one fuck of a messy read.

Now we got a few group scenes in Taking Turns and we saw what magic JA is capable of when you give her two cocks to play with – but the intimacy between Quin and Bric was so hot. It reminded me a lot of the relationship that Ark and JD had in 321, but more developed and confident. These two have played this game for over a decade. They know each other inside and out, they know what turns them on and they aren’t afraid to go all in when it comes to giving and gaining pleasure. They blur the lines with every look, kiss and touch.

It’s so easy to get a lot messed up with so many people to keep track of during a group scene. I know I’ve read a few where six arms go to five to eight and you’re wondering as the reader what the fuck just happened – but there is no confusion. There is no whose arm is that – or wait... how does his hand bend that way? All of it is fluid and choreographed flawlessly –

Another five star – one handed read delivered by the queen of twisty filth!

Aaaaand then there were 3. This one was also an interesting read. If you're a fan of menage mmf then do give this one a look! It was pretty steamy but at times I found it to be a bit repetitive. Couple of eye rolls at one of the characters at being unable to let shit go. I don't expect you to move on at a speed of light man, but please do kindly keep tantrums to a minimum. :D Anywhooo, still loved it.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Type: Book 2 of Turning series
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:

After a year of vanishing without a trace, Rochelle Bastille surprised everyone when she came back not only to face the past, but also with a future that could change everything. Now, she must amend to those she hurt especially the one that she cared the most.

Quin Foster changed his lifestyle as soon as it started to feel hollow. But when she came back, he must decide what the most important thing he wanted to keep is.

I started this book with a certain expectation, but it ended up with something pretty much totally different.

I’m the nice guy in this group. I like to make the girls happy, and not just sexually. I like to make them happy in life.

I liked and sympathized with Quin with what happened in book one, but now I just wanted him to start with a clean slate. However I did like how he stood up for what he believed.

“I don’t want to play though. I want it to be real."

Rochelle... I have problem with her. I don't like her at all. And her actions, even though explained at the end, was justified. It was so trivial for something that affected their life so much.

I’m probably a dick at times. Smith is a dick almost all the time—except with Chella. But Bric—Bric is a dick because he doesn’t care.

While book 1 was confusing with their game structure, it was something different and intriguing. In this book, the game continued in their own way but I had enough of it. There was so much talk about it without it being significant - at least not to me because they totally lost my attention every time game talk came up.

And my biggest problem is the characterization. Smith and Bric were so different from book 1, I was wondering if I'm reading the right series. They turned complete 180, it became ridiculous. Maybe it was supposed to be amusing, but their personality changes were too much, too fast, it became a (non funny) joke. I'd say thank god for the hot sex that helped me pull though the book lol!

Turning Back is a story of second chance amidst secrets and games. It would appeal to readers looking for conventional romance in unconventional setting.

4 "there's no turning back, only moving forward" stars

damn, I need a good threesome...

lol, in books...

and I go what I've wanted, as far as the threesomes scenes are concerned.
JA Huss, writes the steamy, hawt scenes that absolutely work for me and I devour them *wink*

But I have to state that I had issues with the heroine, Rochelle Bastille, I really didn't "dig" her reasoning, not until the final resolvment at the 80% of the story, and by then, it was quite "too late" to like her :/ (she was so, I dunno, flimsy and deceitfuly pliant...bah)

anyway, the "playing game" has changed, or it seems that way, cause the main player Bric actually pulls the threads again making the rules without giving any notion of the rules (yes, he's a master manipulator and yet, he's the most fuckin interesting character in this threesome playout)

Quin - hmmm, from sulking and pouting, then resilient in punishement and fucking to the final sweet and nurishing man, who really tried to hide the inner self-depricating notion of not being good enough for her - Rochelle (the woman he loved, and was ready to give up the game for, but she took the "choice" away from him by running away)

Now, after the second chance has been fulfilling the blanks in between them, they find each other again and bond over a child, a child Rochelle hid from them both only to give both Bric and Quin a way to develop another side to them.
Addicted to the game. Addicted to the familiarity of the three of us. Addicted to the way they make me feel when we make love together

BUT one of them is bound to lose it all, cause...
The world is not made for threesomes. It's made for couples. You're playing a game. It's a very dangerous game because it was designed to end. One day it will end.

Just a note: even though the "couple" that ended up together "deserves" one another and yet they didn't bring me the satisfaction of their HEA.

Nevertheless, I have those fucking butterflues splattering inside cause of the anticipation only one man can bring:
That smile. That devious, deviant, I'm-gonna-make-you-sorry-you-ever-started-playing-this-game-with-me smile.

It's my turn

A sexy, erotic, and palpable romance that blends sophistication and seduction at it’s finest. In this second installment, Turning Back, JA Huss lures her readers down the proverbial literary rabbit hole where readers will discover the unusual yet rare and special relationship dynamic of Smith, Bric, Quin, and Rochelle.

Three men. One woman. An agreement where they would share and take turns that includes lots of kinky sex as well as companionship. But what happens when Rochelle had enough of the game after three years and leaves without a trace? Fast forward to the present, and Rochelle is back in the picture but this time with a baby in tow. Who is the father of the baby? Bric? Quin? And the most important question, why did she leave and now wants to return back to the game with Quin and Bric?

#TurningBack

Quin was the one most affected when Rochelle left. He couldn’t understand why she had to leave because a part of his being was left broken when she decided to stop playing the game without informing him. Bric, on the other hand, cares for Rochelle in his own silent way. He may not be moping around like Quin but Rochelle’s leaving the game, changed the dynamics of the group.

With Rochelle coming back, what happens when there are new rules to the game? Can Quin truly forgive Rochelle? Will Rochelle regret her decision in turning back? And what happens when Rochelle see’s a new soft and sweet side to Bric?

Though Turning Back may not be everyone’s cup of tea, Julie captivates her readers to look beyond the sexual taboo but instead see the visceral connection brewing between Bric, Quin, and Rochelle. Their menage a trois is far beyond just the kinky sex but instead lies an intimacy that was felt in a strong sensual and palpable manner. Bric and Quin are two men who demanded your attention. They deserved to have their feelings, thoughts, and sexual expression be represented. And boy oh boy, did Huss represent them. In fact, she had me rooting for Bric as he won me over with his dominance, presence, and heart. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Quin but Bric was "that" character who stole the spotlight.

Turning Back was what everything that I craved from a JA Huss book. The writing was superb as always. The story line was original. The characters were raw, sexy, and still had the vulnerable emotional aspect to tug our hearts. And as always, Julie leaves no stone unturned as she delicately teases readers with Bric’s story in His Turn. A must read for anyone looking for a fresh, original, sexy romance that packs heat, eroticism, passion, friendship, and kink.

Since Turning Back wasn't at par (to a certain extent) with the first serial, JA Huss best bring her A-game with the next book.

In spite of that,
the complexity of the characters along with the insanely scrumptious sex scenes will keep you entertained from start to finish. Bliss.

This was definitely the threesome book I needed in my life. I really enjoyed book 2 in this series. Quin I've loved since we first met him, but this book gave me another side of Bric that I wasn't expecting. He was so fucking adorable with Adley. The chemistry between Rochelle, Quin & Bric when they were intimate was off the charts and super hot. I will say the ending was kind of simple, but I really appreciated that about it. Then ofcourse we're given that epilogue and I've been dying to see how dominant & kinky Bric can get so super excited about book 3.

I was really looking forward to this book especially with the way the first one ended. But I had a bad feeling about what Bric would do with the information he received and unfortunately, I wasn't too far off base.

The two players that are left, Bric and Quin, haven't really talked to each other for a year. Quin is hurt and stubborn and Bric is just letting things slide...for the most part.

I had a hard time with accepting this as these two have been best friends for a very long time. It's painfully obvious that Quin is hurting and Bric has the power to alleviate that but doesn't. Could this be the sadist in him? Thank goodness for Chelle.

description

Then, the moment we've been waiting for...Rochelle is back and both Quin and Bric are on board with them being a threesome...or a thriple as they like to say. And while I appreciated all the POVs, I thought what Quin needed to happen was a bit much.

What I was surprised about was how into each other Bric and Quin are. I was hoping this would be explored a bit more but the drama of the book doesn't leave much time. It will be interesting to see if it comes up in Bric's book.

I really enjoyed how much Bric took to the new "development" and how much he loved it. I do hope that continues in some way because it was just sooo sweet and I really loved seeing that side of him...and Quin.

I was really happy with the way things worked out. Quin's mom was pretty amazing! I enjoyed the two epilogues and I liked how it set things up for Bric although I was really hoping for him to end up with a certain someone else!

When Rochelle left the game Quin was devastated, but now she's back and ready to play with Quin and Bric, but can this last forever or will someone be cut out of the game?

My feelings on this book were all over the place. I think I will not be on the same page as most and I'll explain why, BUT FIRST holy hotness!! JA Huss knows how to write hot sex scenes. I loved this trio together!

Now here's why I say I may not be on the same page as most (I'll try to do this with no spoilers) for me Bric stole the show. Yes, I know how Quin and Rochelle felt about each other (read book one if you haven't) but I was so much more interested in Bric, maybe it was the asshole, I don't care about anyone else, selfish attitude he had, but I was totally into him.

I thought the story line was great, and I loved the characters! I can't wait for the third book!!

I didn't do any research before I dived into this series. I only had my imagination based off of this author's previous books and I admit, it still took me by surprise. It's one of the things I like about JA Huss. I can trust her enough not to do research and I can trust her to give me something new and fresh every time.

I would say this has a darker edge to it but it's not too dark that you have to worry about abuse or mistreatment by the characters. Each character are flawed in their own unique way because that's what this author specializes in.

I really don't want to say too much about what this book/series is about because it's one of those that would spoil it and I enjoyed it more going in and not knowing myself. I will warn you that there are menage scenes but don't be fooled into thinking that this is all it is about. There is a deeper story on each character that gets unraveled by each chapter and each book.

I'm enjoying the mysteriousness, the snark and humor in this book and the overall protectiveness you get from these strong alphas. I start out not sure that I even like them and the more I read and learn, I end up loving them and get excited for the next book. ARC provided by Author.

In this second book of the series, it starts immediately where book one’s timeline ended with the continuation of Rochelle’s disappearance from the game.
With Quin upset from her mysterious departure, Bric promises he will look for Rochelle to give Quin peace of mind. Instead, the plan changes giving Quin the second chance he was hoping to have.

“I missed everything. She took it all away from me and I don’t think I can ever forgive her for that.”

With Rochelle’s return, the dynamic changes for Quin and also Bric with the added element of Adley Bastille, Rochelle’s infant baby, since the father’s paternity is yet to be confirmed. For Quin, his feelings are resolute but he still needs to work out his anger toward Rochelle for not trusting his feelings. For Bric, he is happy to have his preferred arrangement back and seems to be all-in for this trio. However, Rochelle has a plan and she’s returned for only one man.

“She’s mine,” Quin says. “Just so you understand that. But I’m willing to share.”

As Quin is able to move past his anger toward Rochelle, they enjoy what this threesome can bring to the relationship. Thanks to their deep friendship, Quin and Bric fall into ease with Rochelle making their group encounters feel natural and hot as hell! Without any rules, Quin, Rochelle and Bric feast on each other for some seriously combustible moments.

“I watch Quin’s face as we fuck her hard. Him thrusting up from below, his balls slapping up against mine. Me pounding her from behind, my hands digging into her hips like I never want to let go.”

The sex has always been the easiest for these players, so when certain truths threaten to surface, it forces Rochelle, Quin and Bric to confront their insecurities before they can move forward. Each have deeply rooted reasons for their choices and when it’s all disclosed, there is understanding and feelings are reinforced.

“All this time I thought he was like Smith, and Bric, and … me. Wounded. Damaged. Ruined. But he’s not. He’s normal.”

As told in multiple POV, the fears, wants and motivations of these characters are revealed as the plot unfolds. I would have preferred to know more about each character’s past sooner, but it seemed to parallel the tension points of the plot line. From the first book, I didn’t want to view Quin as the softy of the group and in this book, he proved to hold his own which I liked. Bric remained to be a bit of an enigma and I am very curious to know his dark kinky side. As for Rochelle, she was the weak link for me because her reason for leaving and staying away seemed unjustified, especially given they were together for three years. There’s no doubt that JA Huss can tell the hell out of a story and I’ve been a long-time fan, but this book fell a bit short for me compared to her other books.

There were some appearances by Smith and Chella, which were amusing at times and added to the storyline but I was surprised to read about Smith’s newest pets. Oh the things men do for love! Lol!

Overall, Turning Back is a book about acceptance and moving forward, as the notion of being normal is subjective to everyone.

It's only just a game, they said—new game, new rules. We'll both father this cute little pumpkin, they said—no DNA tests will be needed. Emotions won't get tangled up and complicate things, they said—until one of them falls unexpectedly in love. We'll work perfectly well as a thriple, they said—until one of them gets hurt and left behind. Well guess what, all that was good in the beginning. And then, they all woke up from the fantasy and reality came crashing down.

As erotic, dirty and provocative as Turning Back was, I must say that it made my ovaries, my heart and all my insides explode too. I admit, it wasn't as intense as Taking Turns was—because book one involved a quad and nothing can beat the heat and sexiness of that—but it's just as sweet, twisted and impactful in all the ways J. A. Huss writes her books. It was everything I truly expected from this second book in the series and more.

I loved seeing where Smith and Chella are now in this one. That's for sure. And I was stunned speechless at certain scenes—yes Smith Baldwin, I'm looking at you. Actually no, scratch that. I'm really looking at all of these guys. Even the egocentric, manipulative Elias Bricman. I never thought some of these things would possibly happen. Man, was I so wrong. Because they all shocked me stupid.

If you read book one, you'll know how broken-hearted and hung up Quin Foster was over Rochelle, the woman the three of them played in the game with for three long years. She left abruptly and unexpectedly with no calls, no explanations. She left Quin with his love up in the air for a full year. Because Bric never loved her; he was just in it for the game. And Smith hated her and was never invested. In fact, he stopped playing with her and seeing her all together for quite a while before she left. But now she's back and with a cute little pumpkin named Adley in tow.

Quin Foster has always been the fun, easy going one out of the trio. He was this sweet, considerate and sensual lover who I loved everything about. I never thought he deserved to be left behind by the woman he loves, worships really, just like that. Now that she's returned, I can't help but feel ecstatic for him. No matter the damage she caused that needs to be repaired and patched up. As long as Quin gets his Rochelle back, everything is right again in the world. But it's never really that easy, now is it? You'll certainly see aside of Quin here that will make your knees wobble, your heart stutter and your insides constrict.

I was iffy about Rochelle Bastille at first. The web of lies she started to get caught up in drove me crazy. Right from the very beginning. I know she loves Quin and wants him all to herself, but there were things she did that just made me lose a little bit of my mind every time. And even after all of that, I'm still a little mad with how she broke Quin when she left him hanging clueless and helpless that year ago. Midway though, I learned to like her—especially with how much of an amazing mother she is to Adley—but I think I still love Chella more.

And Elias Bricman. God, I think I need a massive redemption story for this fella. He has certain quirks that I get. How he's hiding behind this mask, showing everyone what he wants them to see. How he always needs to be in control of everything inside and outside of the bedroom. He's a puzzle you'd get addicted to putting together. And though we get glimpses of Bric here that will melt your heart and question what you always knew about him, I'd still love to find out the reason why he became the way he is—manipulative, self-absorbed, self-centered to the highest level. Thank goodness we don't have to wait too long to get his kink story. Oh, and all the scenes with Bric and Adley together? I'm telling you, your ovaries just wouldn't stand a chance.

This is purely J. A. Huss' trademark. If you're looking for an erotic book that will leave you breathless and gasping for air, clutching the sheets while making your heart pound and at the edge of your seat with everything going on, this entire series is for you. Just make sure that when you begin, know that there will be no turning back. Now I can't wait for His Turn. Bring the heat, kinkiness and game on, Elias Bricman!

This was a highly anticipated read for me as I was intrigued to explore more about what went down with Rochelle and the guys. Why did she leave? Does Quin really love her? And then the huge significance of a baby being born – like who is the father? So yeah, just a few unanswered questions at the end of the first book!

One thing that was made very clear in the first book in this series was how devastated Quin was when Rochelle left their arrangement. He was in love with her and thought she felt the same way too To be fair, Rochelle did love Quin, she loved Bric too but in a different way. She may have been with three men but she had very individual relationships with them all.

It’s been twelve months since she has been gone and in that time Smith has moved into an exclusive relationship with Chella, Bric still gets his kicks at the club and Quin has just been existing – still mourning the loss of his relationship with Rochelle. She has disappeared into thin air and he has no idea if she is even still alive on earth. He would do anything just to know that she was okay.

Bric really misses the way things used to be with Quin and decides it’s time to do something about it when he receives information about Rochelle. He carefully plots out her return, always playing the game is our Bric, then he watches it all unfold in the way he had hoped it would.

Quin may have been a player in their games but he is not as manipulative as Bric. He is a genuinely nice guy who values trust and loyalty. Therefore, it comes as a complete shock when Rochelle returns to town, not alone though, with her beautiful baby daughter Adley with her. Talk about a mind fuck. On the one hand he is relieved that she is okay but on the other surprised to see that she has had a baby.

Rochelle had her reasons for staying away but Quin is the only real reason she returned, she is still in love with him and she hopes he feels the same way. Does he love her or love the game? Can he be with her exclusively or does he love being with her only if he can share her with Bric?

Both Bric and Quin fall in love with Adley, either of them could be her father and this beautiful girl deserves to be spoilt like a princess. I loved seeing a different side to Bric and how he softened when he was around Adley, who knew he had a heart huh? Brin, Quin and Rochelle try to navigate their way into a new future with their baby daughter but I think they all know this is temporary.

What will happen when Adley’s true biological father is revealed? What is Bric really up to? Does Quin love Rochelle enough to leave the game for good and just be with her? There are a lot of lies & secrets weaved throughout this story and when they all come out will it be too much for them to overcome this time?

I could not put this book down, I was very invested in Rochelle and Quin getting a HEA together but there was so much else going on that at times it seemed impossible. I was happy at how things worked out in the end but also heart broken at the same time. Bring on book three!

And can I just say, bigs ups to Rochelle and her nether regions, considering she was a new mum she had a lot of sexual appetite and stamina!

J.A. Huss is back with new rules, a new game, and plenty of filthy kinky sex to go around! TURNING BACK was an undeniably sexy and provocative romance that lured me in and wouldn't let go. This author turns angst into an art form, and gives her readers exactly what they crave, without them even knowing it. I LOVED every single erotic and seductive second of this!

"He's playing a game, but I'm pretty sure we're not playing the same game."

Rochelle is BACK and she has a little bundle of joy with her. Who is the father? J.A. Huss sure keeps us guessing up until the very last moment. Add that mystery to the compounding complexity of these twisty relationships and you got yourself a KICK ASS J.A. Huss romance! Rochelle leaving the way she did, changed not only the dynamic of the group, but it changed Quin and it destroyed him. Now that she is back, he is not in the mood to easily forgive and forget. He is harder. He is unforgiving. He is a man whose heart was shattered when he didn't even know it was on the line. Bric is affected by Quin's behavior and he misses so desperately what they had. With the possibility of fatherhood, we see a very different side to Bric and it's beautiful.

"...this time it will be different. I will not fail."

Rochelle, Quin, and Bric have a visceral connection that is so palpable and so passionate it becomes something more quickly. We get to witness the relationship between Quin and Bric, as well as the lines that blur during the heat of the moment. Their menage a trois is something that will demand your attention in every possible way. I couldn't get enough. My heart pounded every time these three were in a room together.

TURNING BACK was so much more than a love story. It shows off the various types of love that one could share. It's a no-holds-barred romance that will have you BEGGING for more!

Ok so this is 3-3.5 stars for me so I rounded up. I sooooo loved book 1 and Smith....oh Smith. But this one fell flat for me. I just wasn't vested in these characters...but Adley sure was cute. So while I didn't hate I also didn't love.

Seriously, JA Huss can do no wrong in my eyes and is fast becoming one of my favourite authors and an automatic one click. I can't claim to have read all of her books but those that I have read have been mind blowingly amazing... unconventional, uncomfortable at times, challenging on my thought processes but bloomin' brilliant all the same and this latest book in the "Turning" series is no exception. I'll be honest, the reason I read the first instalment in this series was because I was looking for a red hot read and this author sure knows how to deliver when it comes to nookie and kink. The reason I picked up "Turning Back" was because I had become so invested in "Turning Point" club and its members (namely Smith, Bric, Quin, Chella and of Rochelle) that there was never a single doubt in my mind that I wouldn't continue with their story. It was a given, a dead cert so to speak.
I know not one good thing will come from this decision to turn back but I can't stop it now.

Well JA Huss definitely brought her A game again with this one. She delivered a story that was phenomenal. It was engaging, it was intriguing, it was provocative and it was definitely evocative. My oh my it was a damn fine specimen of literature that was difficult to put down. I loved that it was different to "Taking turns." Don't get me wrong, it still had its fair share of the hot stuff but this was so much more emotional than the first book and the pace much slower and to be honest, that was fine considering the direction the plot was taking. Quinn, Bric and Rochelle's story wasn't one that could be rushed, there was too much involved and so much at risk at the same time. I was curious to see how the author would pen the change in dynamics when it came to the "game" but I have to give it to her because she did a sterling job, my thought processes working over time with how things may or may not work out.
I have been so lonely for so long I forgot what it feels like to have someone.
In "Taking Turns," I thought I'd managed to get a pretty good handle on who these characters were, especially the Smith, Quin and Bric. I thought I'd managed to suss them out but "Turning Back" was quite the eye opener because I discovered I didn't actually know them all that well at all. Each of the characters has a history. Each of them has their own story to tell in terms of how they ended up down their chosen path. Prepare to have the life squeezed out of your little hearts ladies because their stories are not what you think. In fact, these characters are not what you think and each book will shine a whole new light on who these men really are. We've seen Smith have his moment in book one. I'm not going to tell you who gets their moment in this book but it was definitely not expected but equally made me understand his character all that more.
I wonder how much I should tell her. If I tell her why I play the game then she'll know what a fuck up I am. She'll see through me. She'll see everything.

Well, that's all you're going to get from me when it comes to "Turning Back." I could write and write and write about this book and it's characters but I won't because i'll probably put my foot in it. But know that this was another hands down ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ from me.

I'm sitting here at a loss for what to put. I thought this was quite different to the first book until I re-read my review (similar in how gripping the story was and how hot the steamy parts were *blush*). I was invested in the story and its characters so I'm rating this at 4 stars.

Yet again JA Huss has written a compelling, thought-provoking and, well, morally grey read. A story memorable for the depth of emotion, the lies and half-truths and the battles fought for love to succeed. The characters are complex, believable and likeable, we also see a very different side to Bric in this story. We meet some new characters, one or two of whom I feel may feature in the third book, but who knows? The plot is filled with so many twists, turns and unexpected happening that it made my head spin, but the quality of the writing is such that it was easy to keep up with the story.

There were very welcome, if small, appearances of Smith and Chella in this story but overall it focuses on Quin, Bric and Rochelle and is written from their POVs. There are so many secrets that these three are hiding, both from each other and themselves. Hints, clues and little titbits of information are dropped like a breadcrumb trail throughout the book, and there are revelations right up until the very end of the book.

Given what we know from Book 1 I almost wondered how the author was going to be able to write an entire novel worth of words. . However, as the book progressed and various relationships developed, particularly with Adley, I began to guess what would happen second, third, and fourth. Will she end up with Quin, Bric, both or neither? I'll say now that I alternated between these options almost with each chapter that I read.

I didn't get as emotionally invested in this book compared to the first story - but I think that is because of all the secrets that are being kept which are only revealed at the end. There is much more angst than unrequited love, but I loved every minute of reading this book and can't wait to read 'His Turn'.

Hot!

I'm not sure what to say about this book. There is so much goin on with it and so much to know about the characters. I really enjoyed the first book. So I knew this book was goin to be good. Each of these men are totally different but worth so well together. There all totally sexy and smoking hot in bed. Are was a lot of hot moments in this book, between Bric Rochella and Quinn. Even when it was Quinn and Rochella or Bric and Rochella is was hot. But there is something about these 3 that just works. But I knew how I wanted the story to go and I was glad it worked out the way it did.

Free Image Hosting at FunkyIMG.com

Bric is a complicated guy in some ways. He likes things to go his way. Always needs the the upper hand to be in control. There is something dark about him and it just needs to be unleashed. But in this book you get to see this soft side that orient think was there. It was so cute to see it. The way he was with Adley was just adorable. Even with Rochella there were moments that he was soft and gentle. But even after I've finished this book I still don't know who Elias Bricman is.

Quinn I find is very gentle and soft. He loves very hard and falls easy. He almost wears his heart on his sleeve. In this book though you do see a side in him that can be evil and when you do wrong by him he will hold a grudge. After Rochella left life wasn't great for him. He friend think his life would even be the same. He missed her so much. Things were changing so fast and he didn't like it he want the game and play he needed it some way. So when Rochella came back he didn't know if he was happy or angry well he was angry but he was really happy.

Rochella I feel sorry for. But I feel like I doing get to know her properly till the end. Even though I felt like I knew her if that makes sense. After the Smith Bric and Quinn talking about her so much I thought I knew her. But after finding out more I didnt. Which made me feel sorry for her. She has so much to deal with. She has a great life with the lads for 3 years so leaving that behind had to be hard and I do understand why she did it. I do think it made her stronger and she didn't to be for Adleys sake.

I did enjoy this book. But I feel like there was something missing. There was plenty of hotness and gorgeous men. I just feel like I wanted more I did feel the same after the first even though I luvd that to. I just can pin point what it is. I liked the story and the characters and I was happy with how it went. Maybe I m goin a lil crazy haha. I would recommend it. Like I said I enjoyed it and it kept me interested throughout. I just wanted more I think.

3.5 "Which one of these men is the father?" Stars!

What's it about? This is the second part to the series and explores the reasons why Rochelle left the game in the first book and the consequences of her turning back .

The best bits: Okay first thing's first:
My 3.5 stars reflects a very good book.
A thoroughly enjoyable book.
A very well written book.

For some reason, some people assume that anything less than a four star is a bad bad thing. And perhaps because of this, I have in the past been tempted to fling around 4 and 5 star ratings adapting to the skewed bell curve, and even applying a 6 star rating to do justice to my absolute, gob-smacking favourites.
Well, it's time to stop the crazy, people.
3.5 stars is better than "good" in my mind.
It's very, very good , I thoroughly recommend it and believe it is bound to be a 5 for many readers!
Ok. Sorted.

Perhaps I'm a little twisted but Bric was my favourite throughout this whole story. He was by far, the most complex and the most entertaining... and certainly the most mysterious. I can't wait to start his book!!!

And while things were relatively slow and placid through most of the book, I really DID want to know who the father was, and things really ramped up and got 'un-put-down-able' in the last 20% of the book.

The worst bit: I don't like a mopey, depressed, insecure man so Quinn was just not my cup of tea. Not even in the first book. But that's just me. I know he had good reason but I only liked him when he got angry. I know: twisted!

And if Quin was annoying, Rochelle was completely, off-the charts, gunk stuck between my tooth, paper-cut on my tongue, pestering, unlikeable, irritation. Too much? I loved Chella so much in the first book but Rochelle was in need of a solid smack on the head. Sometimes she seemed like she was 24 years old but a lot of her internal musings were as if she was 16. And her "love" was about as selfless as Charlie Sheen's. And I thought she was more manipulative than Chella. Basically she was like Charlie Sheen's and Madonna's love child.

I also missed Smith's point of view.

Recommended for: Fans of J A Huss. Fans of second chance romances with a mènage twist. This is a very well written romance about finding out who you're meant to be with and making a life all of your own.
And I can't WAIT to read the next one!!!

4.5 Turning Back Stars

After book 1 I was begging for this book I needed to know. And Juss has out done herself. I loved this book.

This triangle of Quin, Bric, and Rochelle is something you need to experience. It’s not conventional and who cares right love doesn’t care if you love one person two or more.

The emotions each one feels and how they are all inter locked it’s kinda genius. I loved it, ok I think I said that already but really Bric really took the book for me. I enjoyed his banter his scenes heck everything about him. He thought he was being so sly.

Quin and I were not on the same page at the beginning and I understand why he was so angry and hurt. I did forgive him as the book goes one, I can’t be mad at him for long.

Rochelle had a lot of redeeming to do in my eyes and she really does. I love how much she loves and how much she wanted to show her forgiveness.

But I will say Adley totally steals the show! I love when babies are in books they really do steal the scenes.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

3.5*

Smith parts were the best. This book was not a favorite of mine. I did like his honesty & anger. I just didn't get sucked into this couple. But, I'm so looking forward to Bric. Hope he doesn't hold back!

SPOILER ZONE AHEAD

I love boring. Your brand of boring is exactly what I need

Okay yes I bit and finished this book. I had to because the missing piece of the puzzle that was talked about repeatedly in book 1 is finally shown in this book.

The good parts of this book is that it had more smut scenes that are likeable and we got a peek into everyone's past and present self. I understand what made them do the things they did and why does the game exist.

The not so good parts of this book is that I needed to get used to MM interactions, which came out of nowhere. No judgements but a pre-warning could have worked. Also I don't understand why Smith was being a bitch when he walked out of the game. I know he's trying to let the truth prevail but damn he needs to keep his mouth to himself. That was irritating. I am really big on people having to stay in their own lane if it doesn't concern them.

To be honest, I'm really interested Bric's story but I've been neglecting my other books so maybe after. Bric was someone I didn't expect him to be in this book, having shown an unpredictable and only sex-crazed side of him in the previous book. Of course from the covers you can see them 2 men out of 3 are out of the game so Bric is on his own now, I think.

We will find out as we peek into the forbidden.

Will Quin ever forgive Rochelle for leaving without a word. He been a mess for an entire year but he has pushed past his hurt to try and be normal. However what is normal without Rochelle? That is until Rochelle shows back up in Denver with a baby…who is the father Bric or me?

Rochelle Bastille was in a quad relationship for 3 years and decide to leave one day because the one man I’m this quad didn’t love her back and she wanted more. Quin easy smile, charming, great looks. Smith dispassionate attention & never there. Bric always listened but was self absorbed, self obsessed & self centered. But Quin wanted the game more than he wanted the idea of Rochelle. Quin friends meant more to him and he didn’t ever want a “normal relationship” he wanted what his friends and him always had, sharing women. The game and the rules were important so how could Rochelle compete so she left with no explanation. One problem, Rochelle took a part of Quin with her something he never knew she had was his love. Will Quin ever forgive Rochelle and what will he do when he finds out the same friends betrayed him just to get the game back?
