The New York Times bestselling author of One More Day returns with a heartwarming romantic comedy about two complete opposites on a quest to discover the formula for dating success.
Bennett Alexander is a scientist, an inventor and speaks four languages but the intricacies of the social contract are something he’s never mastered. His childhood friend, Olivia, is the only one who understands him but he has no idea how to go from friends to lovers. If only love could be like one of his lab experiments; start with a hypothesis, control the variables and then test until you find a solution.
Katie Mason is everything he is not. Warm, funny and beloved by his entire family, she’s also a single mother desperate for a job after a painful divorce. With her help, Bennett decides to run the most important experiment of his life. Katie will be the control and with her help, he will test how to modify his behavior. Once he finds the formula for attraction, he might have a shot at being the kind of guy a woman could fall for.
With Katie as his teacher, they embark on a series of unorthodox dating lessons. Soon she has him doing the craziest things from going on fake dinner dates to reading fantasy novels to having…fun.
From what he can tell, there’s just one thing wrong with his experiment – the fact that Katie seems to like him exactly the way he is.
What’s a brilliant scientist to do when he suspects that he’s falling in love?

She also holds a Master’s degree in Business from a prestigious college that would no doubt be scandalized at how she’s using her expensive education.
I can't remember what book I fell in love with the eldest Alexander but I did and I couldn't wait his book to come out. Now it's here, and I love Bennett Mark Alexander aka "Ben" by close family and friends and all his socially awkard ways even more! His new assistant, Katherine Anne Mason aka "Katie" recognizes that Bennett is not only a genius but is perfect the way he is. But can she convience him of that?
There are a lot of funny and serious moments in the book. My favorite moments are Bennett's aloofness, his romantic side, his banter with his cousin Grant.
I don't honestly know how long I waited for Bennett's story to come out even though it felt like a lifetime but I enjoyed the end product. This is a great story of appreciating who YOU are, accepting people for how THEY are, loving differences amongst people, and in the midst of all that finding your soul mate.
This is the story of the last of the Alexander brothers and the oldest. Bennett Mark Alexander is a genius scientist, a geek and socially awkward. Katie aka Katherine Anne Mason was a divorcee with two sons Hunter and Matthew. Hunter is seven and Matthew is five. Katie is friends with Ridley, Jackson Alexander's wife the youngest of the Alexander brothers. Ridley found out Bennett needed an assistant and suggested Katie. Katie thinks he is hiring her for his lab assistant but he actually wanted her to teach how to act in social situations. This story was different than the rest of the Alexander brothers and really funny and romantic with a little drama. This story pulled on my emotions, it made me love Bennett the oldest and sweetest son. I highly recommend this book, 📚📖, it's a good read.
Probably my favourite as Bennett is such an intriguing mix of shy nerd and brilliant minded academic. Katie is likeable and a strong character, not afraid to say her piece or make people hear her. Pity she wasn’t a bit more like this with the ignorant ex husband. Like the mixing it up with other sibling/relatives and how the family dynamics play out. I knew Olivia’s story from her own book which was written prior to this but overlaps story timeline wise. It is in a different series but I hadn’t put it together till near the end that it was the same Olivia. Read and reviewed years ago but review is missing.
I loved Bennett. I think he might be my favorite Alexander brother.
I was so glad he found Katie. One of the best things about this book was Bennett found someone HE believed could accept him completely. Another thing was Bennett was able to help Katie feel loved and appreciated for the person she was and what she brought to their relationship. To top it off, he loved her kids.
This was truly a romantic tale. It had the steadiness and the sexiness, but I think the romance won out over it all. I would definitely recommend reading this book.
I loved reading about Bennett and Katie's getting together. This was such a wonderful, and funny read I loved how Ri always interfere and bring these two together I like her it was good to see her again I read her story as well. I would absolutely recommend reading this series I don't think you will regret it Ms. Malone write such wonderful and funny characters which keep you entertained and coming back for more. Great job Ms. Malone please keep these wonderful stories coming and thank you. 👍🙏❤
Another pleasant Alexander Family read. It is always good reading about the Alexander's. Bennett and Katie's story is so sweet. I like that both of them were no nonsense. They had a little drama and their doubts. When they acknowledged their love for one another, their love was solid.
Bennett is the oldest of the Alexander siblings and the only one not in a relationship. He is thinks he is the odd one, the one lacking social skills, the one who cannot find a date. Bennett's sister in law Ridley thinks that a neighbor, Katie would be a wonderful match. Can the two work through issues from their past and toward a happily ever after?
After 6 books I finally read a book with deep substance and a story line I could imagine actually happening in real life. Bennett and Katie’s growth together as individuals as well as a couple was so lovely to read. Loved them and the uphill slog to get to them was worth it. Also, we love a neurodivergent king - loved this representation and how it was written.
I stumbled upon this author some time ago and have found her books to be well written with good story lines and characters. You don't need to read them all, each book has its own story but once you read one you'll probably want to check them all out.
I loved every minute of it, the heartfelt description of a man with the same difficulties of someone I love made it more special to me. Bennett and Marie's story was beautiful! I highly recommend the series.
Love this series!! Have read every one of the books. I love the Alexander clan and hope that the series doesn't stop here. Love this author. Excellent writing. Can't wait for the next book.
I love Bennett and all his awkwardness. I love that he’s so smart it’s so innocent. And Katie was perfect for him to finally figure out his place. This was was the sweetest story.. ugh my heart ❤️
Bennett was a brainiac but lacked the down to earth that everyday social interactions with people. Katie brought that to him. And so a love story began. I love this book from beginning to end!
Another great read I really liked how they got to know each other and how weirdly funny he can be they make a lovely couple it was nice to see them working it out.
Wow loved Bennett. He was patient and amazing. He feel in love and couldn't believe how happy he was. They were perfect for each other. Love this series
The Alexanders made a good series. There was a storyline, enough sex to keep you interested, and not enough grammatical errors to drive an English major nuts. I recommend it as a "good read".
Awesome final instalment of the Alexander family. Bennett is my kind of guy - wickedly intelligent in some areas yet blind in others. Loveable, endearing and quirky, and exactly the kind of guy Katie needs. Who said romance wasn't scientific?
PS. Need to hear more about the Alexander cousins!!! They sound so very appealing!!!
Just One Thing is by M. Malone. It is one of the Alexander series. The book is well-written and very quick to read. It is fairly realistic. I guess someone has to marry a billionaire; but I have never known an ordinary person to do so. Bennett Alexander is a genius and no one disputes that. However, he is also a recluse and his family really wants him to come out of his shell more and really get involved in the family. As the oldest son, he is looked up to by his siblings, yet, he is also is sheltered by them. He runs his family farm and is about to apply for his tenth patent. He is beginning to see that he wants what his brothers have- a family. Katie Mason is recently divorced and raising two young boys. She is trying to pay all the bills left by her husband without reliable child support. She can’t afford to take him to court to get it. She has to do something. When her friend Ridley Alexander suggests she become someone’s assistant, she thinks it over. However, at dinner, Ridley hits Bennett over the head with the idea of hiring Katie. Ridley also prides herself on her matchmaking skills. Katie’s job is harder than she expected; but she is determined to do it well and impress Bennett. Then, he reveals the true purpose of his hiring her. Can she do this?
