The central subject matter of this book is quite harrowing to read about, it is about people smuggling, in this case of a young girl so that she could be sold on as a sex object for a rich man. The descriptions of the way the gangs work, and the trauma they put their victims through is very harrowing, very realalistic and, unfortunately, very believable.
However, this is surrounded by a superbly written action thriller where Jaxon (who is a great character, who gets better with each book!) teams up with the girl's mother to try and rescue her from the, in this case, Russian mafia. The mother (Adi) is a very dangerous person whose horrendous own back story is gradually revealed throughout the story, and so the body count soon begins to rise. Together Jaxon and Adi run a race against time to track the daughter from one location to another before she is shipped out of the country.
There are lots of twists and turns in the plot, and unexpected help, and unexpected dangers making this book a real page-turner, and guaranteed to raise your pulse rate.
I would rate this as one of the best thrillers I have read this year.
I did receive a complimentary copy of this book from the author and voluntarily wrote this review from it.
